The aim of this paper is to report on fatal landslides resulting from two extraordinary storm events in January and February 2023, in Auckland, New Zealand, including the characteristics of the terrain, the site geology, and the storms. The January 27 Auckland Anniversary storm was from an "atmospheric river," dumping Summer's worth of rain (265 mm) in one day. This was the highest 24-h total on record, estimated a 1 in 200-year event, with a peak 2-min rainfall of 4.2 mm, coinciding with Friday's evening "rush hour." This led to widespread landsliding throughout Auckland, including a fatal landslide in Parnell, central Auckland. Notably, this occurred only meters from a similarly destructive landslide in 1997. With January 2023 Auckland's wettest January on record, and with the region still in a state of emergency, Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle crossed the region on February 13–14. This also caused widespread landsliding, including a fatal landslide at Muriwai on the west Auckland coast. Fatal landslides from the same escarpment had occurred in 1965, close to the February 13, 2023, fatal landslide. Taken together, both storm events caused > 140,000 landslides across the North Island, and flooding, making hundreds of people homeless, with damage estimates of > US$8.6 billion (3.4% of NZ's GDP). For future disaster risk reduction, attention should be paid to revising legislation and local planning, which currently allows people to legally build (and re-build) houses in landslide-prone areas of New Zealand. Behavior performed in the presence of consistent cues is a core element for successful habit development, with the repeated presence of consistent cues facilitating the activation of automatic responses in future. Yet, little is known about the effects of different cue types on habit. Using a two-wave prospective PLS-SEM model with a sample of 68 undergraduate students, we assessed the mediating effects of habit on the past-behavior-to-physical-activity relationship, and how the mediating effects of habit were moderated by the consistent presence of different forms of cues. Habit mediated the effects of past behavior on physical activity, with a significantly stronger mediating effect of habit in those reporting undertaking physical activity at the same time of day, doing the same activity, and in the same mood. Consistent place, people, and part of routine did not moderate the effects of habit. The results provide formative evidence for a key assertion of the habit theory that consistent contextual and internal cues are a cornerstone of habitual development and action, but they also indicate the importance of examining different forms of cues and their impact on the formation and enaction of habits as some cues may be more relevant than others. Adaptive workplace outcomes, such as employee work engagement, job performance, and satisfaction are positively associated with physical and psychological well-being, while maladaptive workplace outcomes, including work-related disengagement, dissatisfaction, stress, boredom, fatigue, and burnout, are negatively associated with well-being. Researchers have applied self-determination theory to identify key motivational correlates of these adaptive work-related determinants and outcomes. Research applying the theory has consistently indicated that autonomous forms of motivation and basic psychological need satisfaction are related to better employee performance, satisfaction, and engagement, while controlled forms of motivation and need frustration are associated with increased employee burnout and turnover. Forms of motivation have also been shown to mediate relations between need satisfaction and adaptive workplace outcomes. Despite support for these associations, a number of limitations in research in the field have been identified, which place limits on the inferences that can be drawn. Noted limitations encompass an over-reliance on single-occasion, correlational data; few fit-for-purpose tests of theory mechanisms; and a lack of consideration of key moderating variables. In the current conceptual review, we discuss these limitations in turn, with specific reference to examples from the extant research applying the theory in workplace contexts, and provide a series of recommendations we expect will set the agenda for future studies applying the theory in the workplace. Based on our review, we make three key recommendations: we stress the need for studies adopting experimental and longitudinal designs to permit better inferences (i.e., causal and directional), highlight the need for intervention research to explicitly test mediation effects to provide evidence for theory mechanisms, and outline some candidate moderators of theory effects, including workplace context, job type, pay structure, and causality orientations. We expect these recommendations to set an agenda for future research applying self-determination theory in workplace contexts with a view to filling the current evidence gaps and improving evidential quality. This longitudinal study applied the integrated model of self-determination theory (SDT) and the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) to explain COVID-19 preventive behaviours among parents of young children in the United States. The study adopted a two-wave longitudinal study design. Parents (N = 681) completed self-report questionnaires related to measures of SDT and the TPB constructs and behavioural adherence at baseline and after one month. We used standardised residual change scores to test the structural relationships of the integrated model. The parameter estimates of the model (CFI >.96, TLI >.86, RMSEA =.05, SRMR =.03) fit acceptably well to the data. Psychological need support was positively and significantly linked to autonomous and controlled motivation and amotivation. Autonomous motivation was positively and significantly correlated with TPB factors, and intention. Intention was a significant and positive predictor of behavioural adherence. The integrated model of SDT and the TPB appeared to be applicable to the explanation of COVID-19 prevention among the U.S. parents. Longitudinal data showed that a psychological need supportive social environment was related to favourable motivation, social cognition beliefs, intention and behavioural adherence to the preventive behaviours of parents protecting their young children from COVID-19. In nonobstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (nHCM), there are no approved medical therapies. Impaired myocardial energetics is a potential cause of symptoms and exercise limitation. Ninerafaxstat, a novel cardiac mitotrope, enhances cardiac energetics. This study sought to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ninerafaxstat in nHCM. Patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and left ventricular outflow tract gradient <30 mm Hg, ejection fraction ≥50%, and peak oxygen consumption <80% predicted were randomized to ninerafaxstat 200 mg twice daily or placebo (1:1) for 12 weeks. The primary endpoint was safety and tolerability, with efficacy outcomes also assessed as secondary endpoints. A total of 67 patients with nHCM were enrolled at 12 centers (57 ± 11.8 years of age; 55% women). Serious adverse events occurred in 11.8% (n = 4 of 34) in the ninerafaxstat group and 6.1% (n = 2 of 33) of patients in the placebo group. From baseline to 12 weeks, ninerafaxstat was associated with significantly better V E /V co 2 (ventilatory efficiency) slope compared with placebo with a least-squares (LS) mean difference between the groups of −2.1 (95% CI: −3.6 to −0.6; P = 0.006), with no significant difference in peak VO 2 (P = 0.90). The Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire Clinical Summary Score was directionally, though not significantly, improved with ninerafaxstat vs placebo (LS mean 3.2; 95% CI: −2.9 to 9.2; P = 0.30); however, it was statistically significant when analyzed post hoc in the 35 patients with baseline Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire Clinical Summary Score ≤80 (LS mean 9.4; 95% CI: 0.3-18.5; P = 0.04). In symptomatic nHCM, novel drug therapy targeting myocardial energetics was safe and well tolerated and associated with better exercise performance and health status among those most symptomatically limited. Stramenopiles form a clade of diverse eukaryotic organisms, including multicellular algae, the fish and plant pathogenic oomycetes, such as the potato blight Phytophthora, and the human intestinal protozoan Blastocystis. In most eukaryotes, glycolysis is a strictly cytosolic metabolic pathway that converts glucose to pyruvate, resulting in the production of NADH and ATP (Adenosine triphosphate). In contrast, stramenopiles have a branched glycolysis in which the enzymes of the pay-off phase are located in both the cytosol and the mitochondrial matrix. Here, we identify a mitochondrial carrier in Blastocystis that can transport glycolytic intermediates, such as dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, across the mitochondrial inner membrane, linking the cytosolic and mitochondrial branches of glycolysis. Comparative analyses with the phylogenetically related human mitochondrial oxoglutarate carrier (SLC25A11) and dicarboxylate carrier (SLC25A10) show that the glycolytic intermediate carrier has lost its ability to transport the canonical substrates malate and oxoglutarate. Blastocystis lacks several key components of oxidative phosphorylation required for the generation of mitochondrial ATP, such as complexes III and IV, ATP synthase, and ADP/ATP carriers. The presence of the glycolytic pay-off phase in the mitochondrial matrix generates ATP, which powers energy-requiring processes, such as macromolecular synthesis, as well as NADH, used by mitochondrial complex I to generate a proton motive force to drive the import of proteins and molecules. Given its unique substrate specificity and central role in carbon and energy metabolism, the carrier for glycolytic intermediates identified here represents a specific drug and pesticide target against stramenopile pathogens, which are of great economic importance. Tissue homeostasis and disease states rely on the formation of new blood vessels through angiogenic sprouting, which is tightly regulated by the properties of the surrounding extracellular matrix. While physical cues, such as matrix stiffness or degradability, have evolved as major regulators of cell function in tissue microenvironments, it remains unknown whether and how physical cues regulate endothelial cell migration during angiogenesis. To investigate this, a biomimetic model of angiogenic sprouting inside a tunable synthetic hydrogel is created. It is shown that endothelial cells sense the resistance of the surrounding matrix toward proteolytic cleavage and respond by adjusting their migration phenotype. The resistance cells encounter is impacted by the number of covalent matrix crosslinks, crosslink degradability, and the proteolytic activity of cells. When matrix resistance is high, cells switch from a collective to an actomyosin contractility‐dependent single cellular migration mode. This switch in collectivity is accompanied by a major reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton, where stress fibers are no longer visible, and F‐actin aggregates in large punctate clusters. Matrix resistance is identified as a previously unknown regulator of angiogenic sprouting and, thus, provides a mechanism by which the physical properties of the matrix impact cell migration modes through cytoskeletal remodeling. The purposes of this randomized control study were to (a) compare the effects of an on-ice versus an overground resisted sprint training intervention and a control condition and (b) identify changes in ice skating kinematics and kinetics after training intervention participation. Twenty-four youth ice hockey players were randomly allocated into 3 groups: (a) on-ice resisted sprint training (on-ice RST); (b) overground resisted sprint training (overground RST); and (c) body weight resistance training (control). During the 8-week intervention, the 2 RST groups engaged in sled towing methods, whereas the control group engaged in a body weight resistance training program twice a week. A series of individual, repeated-measures analysis of variances with post hoc pairwise comparisons were conducted for variables of interest. An interaction effect was noted for ice skating s-cornering agility drill completion time (p = 0.01; ηp² = 0.36), ice skating 30-m top speed completion time (p = 0.04; ηp² = 0.27), step length (p = 0.04; ηp² = 0.26), and knee angle at touchdown (p = 0.03; ηp² = 0.30). The on-ice RST group displayed superior improvements across ice skating tests compared with the control group. Data show that on-ice RST has the greatest transfer effect to ice skating metrics; however, improvements in certain ice skating metrics can be observed with overground training also. Background The 2022 global outbreak of Monkeypox virus (MPXV) highlighted challenges with polymerase chain reaction detection as divergent strains emerged and atypical presentations limited the applicability of swab sampling. Recommended testing in the United States requires a swab of lesions, which arise late in infection and may be unrecognized. We present MPXV detections using plasma microbial cell-free DNA (mcfDNA) sequencing. Methods Fifteen plasma samples from 12 case-patients were characterized through mcfDNA sequencing. Assay performance was confirmed through in silico inclusivity and exclusivity assessments. MPXV isolates were genotyped using mcfDNA, and phylodynamic information was imputed using publicly available sequences. Results MPXV mcfDNA was detected in 12 case-patients. Mpox was not suspected in 5, with 1 having documented resolution of mpox >6 months previously. Six had moderate to severe mpox, supported by high MPXV mcfDNA concentrations; 4 died. In 7 case-patients, mcfDNA sequencing detected coinfections. Genotyping by mcfDNA sequencing identified 22 MPXV mutations at 10 genomic loci in 9 case-patients. Consistent with variation observed in the 2022 outbreak, 21 of 22 variants were G > A/C > T. Phylogenetic analyses imputed isolates to sublineages arising at different time points and from different geographic locations. Conclusions We demonstrate the potential of plasma mcfDNA sequencing to detect, quantify, and, for acute infections with high sequencing coverage, subtype MPXV using a single noninvasive test. Sequencing plasma mcfDNA may augment existing mpox testing in vulnerable patient populations or in patients with atypical symptoms or unrecognized mpox. Background: This study examined the correlation of classroom ventilation (air exchanges per hour (ACH)) and exposure to CO2 ≥1,000 ppm with the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 over a 20-month period in a specialized school for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). These students were at a higher risk of respiratory infection from SARS-CoV-2 due to challenges in tolerating mitigation measures (e.g. masking). One in-school measure proposed to help mitigate the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection in schools is increased ventilation. Methods: We established a community-engaged research partnership between the University of Rochester and the Mary Cariola Center school for students with IDD. Ambient CO2 levels were measured in 100 school rooms, and air changes per hour (ACH) were calculated. The number of SARS-CoV-2 cases for each room was collected over 20 months. Results: 97% of rooms had an estimated ACH ≤4.0, with 7% having CO2 levels ≥2,000 ppm for up to 3 hours per school day. A statistically significant correlation was found between the time that a room had CO2 levels ≥1,000 ppm and SARS-CoV-2 PCR tests normalized to room occupancy, accounting for 43% of the variance. No statistically significant correlation was found for room ACH and per-room SARS-CoV-2 cases. Rooms with ventilation systems using MERV-13 filters had lower SARS-CoV-2-positive PCR counts. These findings led to ongoing efforts to upgrade the ventilation systems in this community-engaged research project. Conclusions: There was a statistically significant correlation between the total time of room CO2 concentrations ≥1,000 and SARS-CoV-2 cases in an IDD school. We present a Two-Higgs-Doublet Model in which the structure of the quark Yukawa matrices is governed by three spurions breaking the flavour symmetries of the quark Yukawa sector. The model naturally suppresses flavour-changing neutral current (FCNC) amplitudes in the down-type sector, but permits sizable FCNC couplings in the up sector. We calculate the branching ratio of Bs → μ+μ− to leading and next-to-leading order of QCD for the case with FCNC couplings of the heavy neutral Higgs bosons to up-type quarks and verify that all counterterms follow the pattern dictated by the spurion expansion of the Yukawa matrices. We find correlations between Bs → μ+μ−, b → sγ, and the Higgs masses. The mixing amplitude is naturally suppressed in the model but can probe a portion of the parameter space with very heavy Higgs bosons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The primary aim of this study was to assess the long-term patient reported outcomes of arthroscopic rotator cuff tear (ARCR) using a single anchor tension band (TB) technique for small and medium supraspinatus tears at minimum 5-years follow-up. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of consecutive ARCRs of small and medium supraspinatus tears using a knotless single anchor TB technique with minimum 5-year follow-up was carried out. Outcomes of interest included: range of motion (ROM) on examination under anaesthesia (EUA), visual analogue scale (VAS), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) scores, Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS) and Short-Form (SF-12). Results: From 243 consecutive ARCR procedures, 82 patients with a mean age of 55 ± 9.5 years met the inclusion criteria at 6.7 ± 1.5 years follow-up. There were significant improvements in VAS (5.5 ± 2.2 vs. 0.7 ± 1.5), ASES (47.6 ± 16.8 vs. 92.8 ± 13.0), OSS (31.3 ± 7.2 vs. 45.3 ± 3.5) and SF-12 (37.6 ± 7.6 vs. 50.3 ± 7.7) post-operatively (all p < 0.001). Conclusions: The single anchor TB ARCR technique has excellent patient reported outcomes at a minimum of 5 years and is suitable for supraspinatus tears smaller than 20 mm in the sagittal plane. Phytophthora pseudosyringae is a self‐fertile pathogen of woody plants, particularly associated with tree species from the genera Fagus, Notholithocarpus, Nothofagus and Quercus, which is found across Europe and in parts of North America and Chile. It can behave as a soil pathogen infecting roots and the stem collar region, as well as an aerial pathogen infecting leaves, twigs and stem barks, causing particular damage in the United Kingdom and western North America. The population structure, migration and potential outcrossing of a worldwide collection of isolates were investigated using genotyping‐by‐sequencing. Coalescent‐based migration analysis revealed that the North American population originated from Europe. Historical gene flow has occurred between the continents in both directions to some extent, yet contemporary migration is overwhelmingly from Europe to North America. Two broad population clusters dominate the global population of the pathogen, with a subgroup derived from one of the main clusters found only in western North America. Index of association and network analyses indicate an influential level of outcrossing has occurred in this preferentially inbreeding, homothallic oomycete. Outcrossing between the two main population clusters has created distinct subgroups of admixed individuals that are, however, less common than the main population clusters. Differences in life history traits between the two main population clusters should be further investigated together with virulence and host range tests to evaluate the risk each population poses to natural environments worldwide. A comprehensive study on the synthesis and characterization of NHC-ligated nickel(II) cyanoborates (CBs) is presented (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene). Nickel(II) cyanoborates Ni[BH2(CN)2]2·H2O (Ib·H2O), Ni[BH(CN)3]2·0.5H2O (Ic·0.5H2O), Ni[B(CN)4]2·H2O (Id·H2O) were reacted with selected NHCs of different steric size. The reaction of the nickel cyanoborates with small to medium-sized NHCs Me2ImMe and iPr2Im (R2Im = 1,3-di-organyl-imidazolin-2-ylidene; R2ImMe = 1,3-di-organyl-4,5-dimethyl-imidazolin-2-ylidene) afforded cyanoborate salts containing the rare homoleptic fourfold NHC-ligated nickel(II) cations [Ni(NHC)4]2+ (NHC = Me2ImMe (1c–d), iPr2Im (2c–d)) and cyanoborate counter-anions. Bulkier NHCs such as Mes2Im and Dipp2Im afforded complexes trans-[Ni(NHC)2(CB)2] (trans-4b, trans-5c). For the combination of the cyanoborate anion [BH2(CN)2]− and iPr2ImMe the salt of the tris-NHC complex [Ni(iPr2ImMe)3(NC-BH2CN)][BH2(CN)2] (3b) was isolated. Salt metathesis of NHC-ligated nickel(II) halides (Ni(NHC)2X2) (X = Cl, Br) with silver(I) and alkali metal cyanoborates were used to synthesize mono- and disubstituted coordination compounds of the type cis- or trans-[Ni(NHC)2(CB)X] (cis-10c, cis-11c, trans-12b) and cis- or trans-[Ni(NHC)2(CB)2] (cis-13b, cis-14a–c, trans-14a–b, trans-15b, trans-5b). Further investigations reveal that NHC-ligated cyanoborate complexes can act as building blocks for coordination polymers, as observed for structurally characterized 1∞ {trans-[Ni(Mes2Im)2(μ2-[NC–BH2–CN])2]·2Ag(μ2-[BH2(CN)2])} (trans-5b·Ag). This study demonstrates the diverse character of cyanoborates in coordination chemistry as both, non-coordinating counter-anions, and weakly to medium coordinating anions forming novel transition metal complexes and salts. It provides evidence that a proper choice of cyanoborate and a proper choice of co-ligand can lead to a rich coordination chemistry of cyanoborate anions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: To systematically review the literature to evaluate the outcomes following an open Latarjet (OL) procedure at a minimum 15-year follow-up. Methods: Two independent reviewers performed a literature search using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines using 3 databases. Only studies reporting outcomes of OL procedure with a minimum of 15 years of follow-up were included. Results: Nine studies composed of 326 shoulders (78.2% males) in 313 patients were included (average age 26.9 ± 3.2 years (15–58)), with a mean follow-up of 271.9 ± 69.2 months (180–420) At a minimum 15-year follow-up, 93.5% (286 of 306) patients reported being satisfied with their OL procedure, whilst 86.8% (177 of 204) reported good/excellent outcomes at final follow-up. All nine of the included studies reported an overall rate of recurrent instability was 7.7%, with re-dislocations and subluxation at 3.4% and 5.8%, respectively. The rate of surgical revision was 5.15%; 3.5% of cases were revised for recurrent instability. Instability arthropathy was reported across all included studies as 41.0%. Conclusion: The OL procedure results in satisfactory clinical outcomes, low rates of recurrent instability and surgical revision at a minimum 15-year follow-up. Although high levels of radiological instability arthropathy and residual pain are found over the same period, these appear stable from a minimum of 10-year follow-up data. We report an investigation of the effect of a low Am impurity content on bulk and point defect properties of mixed actinide oxide (U,Pu)O 2. Using the generalized gradient approximation, (GGA + U) we study U 0.75 − z P u 0.25 A mz O 2 with z = 3 and 6%. Several of its bulk properties have never been reported in the literature or are poorly known. The Hubbard term U is used to take into account the strong correlation effects related to the actinide 5f electrons. We find an electronic charge transfer between uranium and americium cations in the bulk crystal. Am(+IV) cations tend to easily reduce to Am(+III), and this reduction of Am(+IV) is compensated by the oxidation of U(+IV) to U(+V) in stoichiometric compounds. In turn, oxygen hypostoichiometry is accommodated by the reduction of U(+V) cations [which result from the presence of Am (+III) cations] before any reduction of the Pu cations. Furthermore, we show that Am induces a significant increase in the mixing enthalpy as well as a decrease in the lattice parameter of the (U,Pu)O 2 solid solution, which is in agreement with early experimental studies. Finally, we show that americium facilitates the formation of oxygen vacancies in (U,Am)O 2 compared to UO 2 , whereas it induces an increase in the formation energy of oxygen vacancies in (U,Pu,Am)O 2 compared to (U,Pu)O 2. The Radiative‐Convective Equilibrium Model Intercomparison Project (RCEMIP) exhibits a large spread in the simulated climate across models, including in profiles of buoyancy and relative humidity. Here we use simple theory to understand the control of stability, relative humidity, and their responses to warming. Across the RCEMIP ensemble, temperature profiles are systematically cooler than a moist adiabat, and convective available potential energy (CAPE) increases with warming at a rate greater than that expected from the Clausius‐Clapeyron relation. There is higher CAPE (greater instability) in models that are on average moister in the lower‐troposphere. To more explicitly evaluate the drivers of the intermodel spread, we use simple theory to estimate values of entrainment and precipitation efficiency (PE) given the simulated values of CAPE and lower‐tropospheric relative humidity. We then decompose the intermodel spread in CAPE and relative humidity (and their responses to warming) into contributions from variability in entrainment, PE, the temperature of the convecting top, and the inverse water vapor scale height. Model‐to‐model variation in entrainment is a dominant source of intermodel spread in CAPE and its changes with warming, while variation in PE is the dominant source of intermodel spread in relative humidity. We also decompose the magnitude of the CAPE increase with warming and find that atmospheric warming itself contributes most strongly to the CAPE increase, but the indirect effect of increases in the water vapor scale height with warming also contribute to increasing CAPE beyond that expected from Clausius‐Clapeyron. Plain Language Summary: Idealized model simulations of the tropical atmosphere disagree on profiles of temperature and humidity. Here we use simple theory to understand the intermodel spread in humidity and in a measure of instability to convection (small‐scale rising motion). There is greater instability in models that are on average moister. We find that model‐to‐model variations in small‐scale turbulent mixing between cloudy and clear air cause the intermodel spread in instability. Model‐to‐model variations in the fraction of cloud water that reaches the surface as rainfall cause the intermodel spread in humidity. The instability increases substantially with warming, which is driven by a warmer and moister lower atmosphere. Context: The COVID-19 pandemic has had catastrophic impact on a global scale, affecting people from all walks of life including elite athletes. Objectives: The puipose of this study was to evaluate the reported rates of return to play (RTP) in conjunction with the expert-derived guidelines previously recommended to enable safe RTP post COVID-19 infection. Evidence Acquisition: Two independent reviewers searched the literature based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, utilizing the MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus databases. Only studies that reported rates of RTP and/or recommended guidelines for safe RTP were included. Evidence Synthesis: Overall, 17 studies (3 level III and 14 level V) were included. A total of 3 studies reported rates of RTP in a total of 1255 athletes and 623 officials; 72 (30 symptomatic) were infected with COVID-19, 100% of whom were able to RTP post COVID-19 infection. Of the 14 studies recommending guidelines for safe RTP, 3 and 9 studies recommended 7 and 14 days of rest in isolation respectively for asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 infection, prior to safe RTP. In contrast, 7 studies recommended 3 to 6 months of rest (following 14 d isolation) in cases of COVID-19-induced myocarditis as a safe timeframe for safe RTP. Of the 11 studies reporting on whether blanket testing prior to RTP was recommended, only 7 studies recommended a negative test result as mandatory prior to RTP for athletes previously infected with COVID-19. Conclusions: Although excellent rates of RTP have been reported for elite athletes post COVID-19 infection, discrepancies in recommended rest periods, requirement for mandatory negative test results, and the magnitude of screening investigations required continue to exist in the literature, with a need for further standardized international guidelines required in future. It became clear in the 1980s from studies of individual antiretrovirals (ARVs) that single-drug therapies with nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors provided only temporary benefits to persons with HIV, so we turned our attention to studying ARV combinations, initially in vitro and then in the clinic. When it became clear a few years later that the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) caused AIDS, we redirected our efforts towards understanding the pathogenesis and possible treatment of HIV infections. ACTG 175 convincingly showed that (1) antiretroviral therapy not only inhibited HIV replication but also saved lives, (2) 2 ARVs (zidovudine and didanosine) were better than 1 (zidovudine alone), and (3) measuring HIV ribonucleic acid (RNA) in blood was a valuable surrogate marker for clinical endpoints [[22]]. The synthesis and characterization of a series of Cr(II) N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) complexes of the type [{Cr(NHC)Cl(μ-Cl)}2] and [(Cyp)Cr(NHC)X] (Cyp = η5-C5H5, cyclopentadienyl; η5-C5Me5, pentamethylcyclopentadienyl; X = Cl, η3-C3H5; NHC = IMeMe, IiPrMe, IMes, IDipp) as well as the cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene cAACMe ligated complexes [(η5-C5H5)Cr(cAACMe)X] (X = Cl, NPh2), [(η5-C9H7)Cr(cAACMe)Cl] (C9H7 = Ind, indenyl) and [(η5-C13H9)Cr(cAACMe)Cl] (C13H9 = Fl, fluorenyl) are reported. The reduction of [(η5-C5Me5)Cr(IMeMe)Cl] with KC8 in the presence of CO afforded the NHC ligated Cr(I) metallo-radical [(η5-C5Me5)Cr(IMeMe)(CO)2]. Background: Granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine secreted by various immune cells. Several studies have demonstrated an expansion of GM-CSF producing T cells in the blood or CSF of people with MS (pwMS). However, whether this equates to greater concentrations of circulating cytokine remains unknown as quantification is difficult with traditional assays. Objective: To determine whether GM-CSF can be quantified and whether GM-CSF levels are elevated in pwMS. Methods: We employed Single Molecule Array (Simoa) to measure GM-CSF in both CSF and blood. We then investigated relationships between GM-CSF levels and measures of blood–CSF-barrier integrity. Results: GM-CSF was quantifiable in all samples and was significantly higher in the CSF of pwMS compared with controls. No association was found between CSF GM-CSF levels and Q-Albumin – a measure of blood–CSF-barrier integrity. CSF GM-CSF correlated with measures of intrathecal inflammation, and these relationships were greater in primary progressive MS compared with relapsing-remitting MS. Conclusion: GM-CSF levels are elevated specifically in the CSF of pwMS. Our results suggest that elevated cytokine levels may reflect (at least partial) intrathecal production, as opposed to simple diffusion across a dysfunctional blood–CSF-barrier. Introduction: High levels of sugar intake are associated with multiple maladaptive health outcomes in adult and younger populations. Identifying the psychological determinants of sugar intake in adolescents, and the processes involved, may help identify potentially modifiable targets and inform intervention development. We tested the predictions of an extended theoretical model based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB), which specified social cognition constructs, habit, and self‐control as correlates of sugar intake in an adolescent sample. Methods: Adolescents aged 12 to 14 years (N = 88) recruited via a survey panel company and consenting to participate in the study completed online self‐report measures of constructs from the TPB alongside measures of habit and self‐control. One month later, participants completed a follow‐up measure of free‐sugar intake. Hypothesized effects of our proposed extended model were tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling. Results: We found statistically significant effects of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control on sugar intake intentions. We also found significant effects of habit and self‐control on sugar intake measured at follow‐up, but no effect for intention. Perceived behavioral control moderated the intention–behavior relationship such that intention effects on behavior were larger when perceived behavioral control was high. However, self‐control did not moderate the intention–behavior relationship. Conclusion: Results indicate that sugar intake in this sample was a function of habits and self‐control, and the effect of sugar intake intentions was conditional on perceived behavioral control. Results contribute to an evidence base of determinants and associated processes that relate to sugar intake in adolescents and may signal potentially modifiable targets for intervention. The aim of this work has been to assess the Hilhorst model, used for estimating in‐soil pore water conductivity, against soil properties of percolation threshold and soil particle conductivity. The Hilhorst model has the benefit of requiring a single soil‐specific parameter which makes this model easy to apply from soil permittivity and bulk conductivity measurements. However, the Hilhorst model requires that the bulk conductivity measurement is dominated by pore water conductivity, which is not always the case in many "real‐world" settings. This work examines a mathematical framework derived from combining the Hilhorst and Ewing and Hunt models which allows the Hilhorst soil parameter to be derived for a range of soil particle conductivities (0 to 10 mS m−1) and percolation thresholds (0 to 0.1 m3 m−3). The analysis in this work indicates that the Hilhorst parameter is highly sensitive to both soil properties with respect to the default value of 4.1 that is often employed. This assessment indicates that: (i) soil particle conductivity can result in the Hilhorst model overestimating pore water conductivity, which becomes more significant for lower bulk conductivities, and, (ii) percolation threshold can result in the Hilhorst model underestimating pore water conductivity, which becomes more significant for lower soil moisture contents. The results from this analysis suggest that the application of the Hilhorst model should be considered against the context of soil particle conductivity and percolation threshold for a given soil under test. Numerous studies suggest that 40Ar/39Ar K-feldspar analyses record continuous thermal histories from ∼300 °C to 150 °C due to the presence of multiple diffusion domains (MDDs). Such continuous thermal histories can provide significant advantages over thermochronometers that only record cooling through a single closure temperature. However, some studies have questioned the reliability of 40Ar/39Ar K-feldspar MDD models. This study tested whether MDD modeling produces accurate thermal histories that are calibrated to other thermochronometers. MDD models of samples from the Grayback fault block, Arizona, USA, which has a well-known thermal history and structure, and has accurately reproduced the expected thermal evolution, including the inception, rate, and magnitude of rapid cooling produced by tectonic exhumation. Absolute temperatures of the models also matched well with the known pre-extensional thermal structure of the block. These new data provide strong confirmation that MDD K-feldspar models can provide geologically meaningful and accurate continuous thermal histories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: More insight into the biological diversity of colorectal cancer (CRC) is needed to improve therapeutic outcomes. We aimed at establishing a combined 2D/3D, in vitro/in vivo model system representing the heterogeneity of CRC with regards to the molecular subtypes, allowing bioluminescence imaging-assisted analyses. Comparative characterization of stable luciferase expressing derivatives of well-established CRC cell lines, derived spheroids and subcutaneous xenograft tumors showed that regarding primary tumor characteristics, the 3D-spheroid cultures resembled xenografts more closely than 2D-cultured cells do. Xenograft tumor growth resulted in metastatic spread to the lungs. Furthermore, a bioluminescence-based spheroid cytotoxicity assay was set up in order to be able to perform dose–response relationship studies in analogy to typical monolayer assays. Thus, the model systems can be used in preclinical research applications to study new therapy approaches and represents the biological heterogeneity of CRC. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a heterogeneous disease. More insight into the biological diversity of CRC is needed to improve therapeutic outcomes. Established CRC cell lines are frequently used and were shown to be representative models of the main subtypes of CRC at the genomic and transcriptomic level. In the present work, we established stable, luciferase expressing derivatives from 10 well-established CRC cell lines, generated spheroids and subcutaneous xenograft tumors in nude mice, and performed comparative characterization of these model systems. Transcriptomic analyses revealed the close relation of cell lines with their derived spheroids and xenograft tumors. The preclinical model systems clustered with patient tumor samples when compared to normal tissue thereby confirming that cell-line-based tumor models retain specific characteristics of primary tumors. Xenografts showed different differentiation patterns and bioluminescence imaging revealed metastatic spread to the lungs. In addition, the models were classified according to the CMS classification system, with further sub-classification according to the recently identified two intrinsic epithelial tumor cell states of CRC, iCMS2 and iCMS3. The combined data showed that regarding primary tumor characteristics, 3D-spheroid cultures resemble xenografts more closely than 2D-cultured cells do. Furthermore, we set up a bioluminescence-based spheroid cytotoxicity assay in order to be able to perform dose–response relationship studies in analogy to typical monolayer assays. Applying the established assay, we studied the efficacy of oxaliplatin. Seven of the ten used cell lines showed a significant reduction in the response to oxaliplatin in the 3D-spheroid model compared to the 2D-monolayer model. Therapy studies in selected xenograft models confirmed the response or lack of response to oxaliplatin treatment. Analyses of differentially expressed genes in these models identified CAV1 as a possible marker of oxaliplatin resistance. The introduction of direct‐acting antiviral (DAA) treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected patients has greatly increased treatment success rates. However, viral response kinetics to DAA treatment may depend on pre‐existing resistance‐associated substitutions (RASs) in HCV. The aim of this study was to describe how pre‐existing RASs affect DAA treatment‐induced reduction in HCV RNA titers in HCV genotypes 1‐ and 3‐infected individuals. Patients with HCV genotype 1 infection (N = 31) treated with either sofosbuvir/ledipasvir/ribavirin or paritaprevir/ombitasvir/ritonavir/dasabuvir/ribavirin and HCV genotype 3‐infected patients (N = 16) treated with either sofosbuvir/daclatasvir/ribavirin or sofosbuvir/ribavirin were analyzed. HCV RNA levels were determined at baseline and frequently during treatment, and RAS profiles were obtained by deep sequencing at baseline. In total, 33/47 (70.2%) of the patients had baseline RASs. However, treatment‐specific RASs were detected at baseline only in 12.9% and 18.8% of HCV genotypes 1‐ and 3‐infected patients, respectively. In genotype 1‐infected individuals, reduction in HCV RNA titer during the first week of treatment was not affected by evidence of either treatment‐specific RASs or cirrhosis or treatment regimen. In genotype 3‐infected individuals receiving sofosbuvir/daclatasvir/ribavirin, the presence of daclatasvir‐specific NS5A RASs at baseline correlated with a reduced decline of HCV RNA in the first treatment week. For both genotypes 1‐ and 3‐infected individuals, cirrhosis but not treatment‐specific RAS were associated with the time of clearance of HCV RNA. Background: Debate centering on the management of anterior shoulder instability (ASI) in recent years has led to many randomized controlled trials (RCTs) being published on the topic. The fragility index (FI) has subsequently emerged as a novel method of assessing significant findings reported in RCTs, particularly those with small sample sizes. Purpose: To evaluate the FI of statistically significant findings in RCTs that reported the outcomes of management strategies of patients with ASI. Study Design: Systematic review; Level of evidence, 1. Methods: Using PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, 2 independent reviewers performed a systematic review of RCTs focusing on the outcomes of management strategies of patients with ASI. There were 3 main categories of RCTs included: (1) nonoperative management in internal rotation (IR) versus external rotation (ER), (2) nonoperative management versus a surgical intervention, and (3) surgical management with arthroscopic Bankart repair versus open Bankart repair. The Fisher exact test was utilized to calculate the FI for the reversal of statistical significance in all statistically significant dichotomous outcomes. Results: A total of 21 RCTs were included, including 1589 shoulders (mean age, 29.4 years) with a mean follow–up of 26.8 months. There were 10 RCTs (831 shoulders) that reported outcomes after the nonoperative management of ASI in IR versus ER, with a mean FI of 6.8. There were 5 RCTs (324 shoulders) that reported outcomes comparing the nonoperative and operative management of ASI, with a mean FI of 3.5. There were 6 RCTs (434 shoulders) that reported outcomes after the operative management of ASI with either arthroscopic Bankart repair or open Bankart repair, with a mean FI of 9.6. Conclusion: The overall FI of RCTs reporting the outcomes of management strategies for patients with ASI was high, suggesting a moderate fragility of statistically significant outcomes including recurrence, revision stabilization, and return to play. About one million tons of CO2 have been injected into the Farnsworth unit to date. The target reservoir for CO2 injection is the Morrow B Sandstone, which is primarily made of quartz with lesser amounts of albite, calcite, chlorite, and clay minerals. The impact of CO2 injection on the mineralogy, porosity, and pore water composition of the Morrow B Sandstone is a major concern. Although numerical modeling studies suggest that porosity changes will be minimal, significant alterations to mineralogy and pore water composition are expected. Given the implications for CO2 storage effectiveness and risk assessment, it is crucial to verify the accuracy of theoretical model predictions through laboratory experiments. To this end, batch reaction experiments were conducted to model conditions near an injection well in the Morrow B Sandstone and at locations further away, where the CO2 has been diluted by formation water. The laboratory experiments involved submerging thin sections of both coarse- and fine-grained facies of the Morrow B Sandstone in formation water samples with varying levels of CO2. The experiments were conducted at the reservoir temperature of 75 °C. Two experimental runs were conducted, one lasting for 61 days and the other for 72 days. The initial fluid composition used in the second run was the same as in the first. The mineralogy changes in the thin sections were analyzed using SEM and the Tescan Integrated Mineral Analyzer (TIMA), while changes in the composition of the formation water were determined using ICP-AES. During each experiment, a thin layer of white fine-grained particles consisting mainly of dolomite and silica formed on the surface of the thin sections, leading to significant reductions in Ca, Mg, and Sr in the formation water. This outcome is consistent with numerical model predictions that dolomite would be the primary mineral that would react with injected CO2 and that silica would be oversaturated in the formation water. Changes in mineral abundance in the thin sections themselves were much less systematic than in the theoretical modeling experiments, perhaps reflecting heterogeneities in the mineral grain size surface area to volume ratios and mineral distributions in the thin sections not considered in the numerical models. The first regioselective syntheses of 1,2-thiaselenane-4-amine (TSA4) and 1,2-thiaselenane-5-amine (TSA5) are developed. Both are redox motifs with high value in chemical biology that until now were hindered by tedious synthesis. An aziridine intermediate and a kinetically controlled S-acylation were leveraged for regioselective chalcogen installations. Short, fast sequences were optimised with just one or two chromatographic steps that cheaply deliver these motifs on scale for high throughput inhibitor screening, and thus provide a robust methodology for assembling other selenenyl sulfides. Background and purpose: Dislocated and unstable hip joints which do not stabilize in an orthosis in the neonatal period require operative intervention to achieve a stable concentric joint. The aim of this study is to assess the requirement for further operative intervention in patients who have undergone successful closed reduction to treat developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Methods: We identified all patients who had undergone closed reduction of an unstable hip joint at our institution within 10 years, with further identification of patients who underwent a second procedure. We used logistic regression to evaluate correlation between age at closed reduction and the probability of secondary procedures. Results: A total of 694 patients (84.5% females) who underwent a closed reduction in the study period were identified. 235 were excluded (patients with underlying genetic conditions, neuromuscular disorders, syndromic disorders). 250 patients had closed reductions only. 209 patients (45.5%) had at least 1 secondary procedure after their initial closed reduction. In multivariable analysis, female gender (OR 0.310; 95% CI, 0.108–0.885; p = 0.029) and patients aged ⩽12 months at the time of first surgery (OR 0.055; 95% CI, 0.007–0.423; p = 0.005) independently predicted being less likely to require a second surgery for their DDH. Discussion: In conclusion, we found that a significant proportion of children (45.5%) who underwent closed reduction of a dislocated hip required additional surgical intervention in early childhood. Our data show that those children who undergo later closed reduction of a dislocated hip in DDH after 12 months of age, and male infants, have a significantly higher incidence of additional surgical intervention. Introduction: Hairdressers are exposed to wet work and manifold allergens at work, rendering exposure complex and the aetiology of occupational hand eczema (OHE) often multifactorial in this occupational group. Objectives: To identify exposure patterns associated with increased risk of hand eczema in hairdressers. Methods: All hairdressers graduating from 2004 to 2007 and 2015 to 2018 received a questionnaire in 2009 and 2020, respectively. Current exposures (with or without regular glove use) and OHE were self‐reported, and their association examined. Patterns of exposure were identified by latent class analysis (LCA). Results: A total response of 39.9% (668/1675) was obtained. Six exposure profiles (#1–6) were identified by LCA across 11 tasks performed with or without gloves as well as deep conditioning, that is, 23 task items. Compared to profile #1 with the lowest OHE risk (reference) an increased risk of current OHE were seen in profile #4 [adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 6.5, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.5–44.8 and #6 (aOR 39.4, 95%CI 6.1–362.8)] in logistic regression analysis. Profile #1 and #6 had performed the same tasks, but in profile #6 regular glove use was performed in 9.1% (1/ 11) of tasks compared to 72.7% (8/11) of tasks in profile #1 (p = 0.002). Conclusion: Although occupational exposures in hairdressing are complex, meaningful patterns associated with a wide range of OHE risk can be identified by LCA. The increase of OHE risk seems predominantly to be due to poor compliance with protective gloves. LCA could be applied to further fields of complex (skin) exposures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This research study explored the lived experience of the elderly with coronary artery disease (CAD) relevant to the effects of climate change as a basis for enhanced and strengthened community-based self-care measures. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological design was employed in the study. Consented face-to-face interview sessions with audio recordings were conducted to gather rich information. The data collected from 28 participants were analyzed using the modified Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen method. Results: Three themes emerged upon a thorough analysis of the results: (1) elucidating the elderly's perception of climate change; (2) unveiling the effects of climate change on CAD; and (3) managing health-related behaviors in a changing environment. Evidence has revealed that climate change causes and aggravates this disease. CAD manifestations worsen when an elderly person is exposed to sudden changes in weather conditions, where various signs and symptoms are evident. Conclusion: In conclusion, elderly clients have an awareness of the concept of climate change and its physiologic effects on CAD; hence, employment of practical self-care measures and practices in managing manifestations, significantly helps them adapt and cope with the adverse effects climate change brings. Performing reproducible vessel source level (SL) measurements is complicated by seabed reflections in shallow water. In deep water, with a hydrophone far from the seabed, it is straightforward to estimate propagation loss (PL) and convert sound pressure level (SPL) into SL using the method codified in the international standard ISO 17208-2 [International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Geneva, Switzerland (2019)]. Estimating PL is more difficult in shallow water because of the way that sound reflects from the seabed such that multiple propagation paths contribute to SPL. Obtaining reproducible SL measurements in shallow water requires straightforward and robust methods to estimate PL. From May to July 2021, a field experiment evaluated different methods of measuring vessel SL in shallow water. The same vessels were measured many times in water depths of 30, 70, and 180 m. In total, 12 079 SL measurements were obtained from 1880 vessel transits and 16 hydrophones, distributed across 3 moored vertical line arrays and 2 moored horizontal line arrays. The experiment confirmed that it is possible to obtain reproducible vessel SL estimates in shallow water comparable to within ±2.5 dB of ISO-compliant measurements in deep water and repeatable to within ±1.5 dB. Introduction: While emergency department (ED) crowding has deleterious effects on patient care outcomes and operational efficiency, impacts on the experience for patients discharged from the ED are unknown. We aimed to study how patient-reported experience is affected by ED crowding to characterize which factors most impact discharged patient experience. Methods: This institutional review board-exempt, retrospective, cohort study included all discharged adult ED patients July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021 with at least some response data to the the National Research Corporation Health survey, sent to most patients discharged from our large, academic medical center ED. Our query yielded 9,401 unique encounters for 9,221 patients. Based on responses to the summary question of whether the patient was likely to recommend our ED, patients were categorized as "detractors" (scores 0-6) or "non-detractors" (scores 7-10). We assessed the relationship between census and patient experience by 1) computing percentage of detractors within each care area and assessing for differences in census and boarder burden between detractors and non-detractors, and 2) multivariable logistic regression assessing the relationship between likelihood of being a detractor in terms of the ED census and the patient's last ED care area. A second logistic regression controlled for additional patient- and encounter-specific covariates. Results: Survey response rate was 24.8%. Overall, 13.9% of responders were detractors. There was a significant difference in the average overall ED census for detractors (average 3.70 more patients physically present at the time of arrival, 95% CI 2.33-5.07). In unadjusted multivariable analyses, three lower acuity ED care areas showed statistically significant differences of detractor likelihood with changes in patient census. The overall area under the curve (AUC) for the unadjusted model was 0.594 (CI 0.577-0.610). The adjusted model had higher AUC (0.673, CI 0.657-0.690]; P<0.001), with the same three care areas having significant differences in detractor likelihood based on patient census changes. Length of stay (OR 1.71, CI 1.50-1.95), leaving against medical advice/without being seen (OR 5.15, CI 3.84-6.89), and the number of ED care areas a patient visited (OR 1.16, CI 1.01-1.33) was associated with an increase in detractor likelihood. Conclusion: Patients arriving to a crowded ED and ultimately discharged are more likely to have negative patient experience. Invasive, exotic plant pathogens pose a major threat to native and agricultural ecosystems. Phytophthora × cambivora is an invasive, destructive pathogen of forest and fruit trees causing severe damage worldwide to chestnuts (Castanea), apricots, peaches, plums, almonds and cherries (Prunus), apples (Malus), oaks (Quercus), and beech (Fagus). It was one of the first damaging invasive Phytophthora species to be introduced to Europe and North America, although its origin is unknown. We determined its population genetic history in Europe, North and South America, Australia and East Asia (mainly Japan) using genotyping-by-sequencing. Populations in Europe and Australia appear clonal, those in North America are highly clonal yet show some degree of sexual reproduction, and those in East Asia are partially sexual. Two clonal lineages, each of opposite mating type, and a hybrid lineage derived from these two lineages, dominated the populations in Europe and were predominantly found on fagaceous forest hosts (Castanea, Quercus, Fagus). Isolates from fruit trees (Prunus and Malus) belonged to a separate lineage found in Australia, North America, Europe and East Asia, indicating the disease on fruit trees could be caused by a distinct lineage of P. × cambivora, which may potentially be a separate sister species and has likely been moved with live plants. The highest genetic diversity was found in Japan, suggesting that East Asia is the centre of origin of the pathogen. Landslides are widespread geomorphological features on the North Island of New Zealand, where they represent one of the primary landscape-forming processes. This study focuses on the steepland terrain surrounding Gisborne, a city located on the east coast of the North Island, at the Hikurangi subduction margin. This terrain consists of young, weak, sedimentary rocks and soils; the most common modes of slope failures are soil creep, slides and flows in shallow, clay-rich soil and regolith, triggered by heavy rainfall. Based on observational data from Sentinel-1 imagery, this study leverages results from interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) processing to reveal the distribution of deformation across Gisborne's steepland periphery from January 2016 to December 2021. Velocities in the line of sight were obtained from the stack of interferograms and projected along the direction of maximum slope, to extract the true displacement on the slopes. The ascending and descending data sets were combined to reveal the vertical and horizontal components of the deformation. The results were combined with a regional LiDAR data set, aerial imagery and field observations to delineate areas of slope deformation. Finally, slope deformation time series data was compared with rainfall records to identify seasonal changes, due to shrinking and swelling of expansive soils. Although the InSAR displacement data contains some noise, results could be used to identify 132 unstable slopes within the study area, caused by soil creep and earthflows. Also, the shrink-swell of expansive soils causes a seasonal pattern of displacements, which varied by 10–20 mm/year between Austral winter and summer, strongly correlated to rainfall. Left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction is a major determinant of heart failure symptoms in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM). Aficamten, a next-in-class cardiac myosin inhibitor, may lower gradients and improve symptoms in these patients. This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of aficamten in patients with oHCM. Patients with oHCM and LVOT gradients ≥30 mm Hg at rest or ≥50 mm Hg with Valsalva were randomized 2:1 to receive aficamten (n = 28) or placebo (n = 13) in 2 dose-finding cohorts. Doses were titrated based on gradients and ejection fraction (EF). Safety and changes in gradient, EF, New York Heart Association functional class, and cardiac biomarkers were assessed over a 10-week treatment period and after a 2-week washout. From baseline to 10 weeks, aficamten reduced gradients at rest (mean difference: −40 ± 27 mm Hg, and −43 ± 37 mm Hg in Cohorts 1 and 2, P = 0.0003 and P = 0.0004 vs placebo, respectively) and with Valsalva (−36 ± 27 mm Hg and −53 ± 44 mm Hg, P = 0.001 and <0.0001 vs placebo, respectively). There were modest reductions in EF (−6% ± 7.5% and −12% ± 5.9%, P = 0.007 and P < 0.0001 vs placebo, respectively). Symptomatic improvement in ≥1 New York Heart Association functional class was observed in 31% on placebo, and 43% and 64% on aficamten in Cohorts 1 and 2, respectively (nonsignificant). With aficamten, N-terminal pro–B-type natriuretic peptide was reduced (62% relative to placebo, P = 0.0002). There were no treatment interruptions and adverse events were similar between treatment arms. Aficamten resulted in substantial reductions in LVOT gradients with most patients experiencing improvement in biomarkers and symptoms. We contend that individual-level ("i-frame") intervention strategies can be appropriately integrated with system-level ("s-frame") strategies to optimize population-level behavior change. We outline instances of effective "i-frame" interventions, and how coordinated, integrated, well-resourced interventions that encompass components at both levels, and has organizational and user-group support, may optimize sustained behavior change intervention efforts, and allay practices that undermine "s-frame" components. Speech delivery pedagogy has both changed dramatically over the last several centuries and remained remarkably fixed over the last 100 years. In the early 1900s, this pedagogy underwent a dramatic shift from an "elocutionist approach" to a "natural approach" to speech delivery. Since that time, speech delivery pedagogy has remained in an essentially petrified state while our understanding of nonverbal behaviors – the very behaviors at the heart of speech delivery – has grown exponentially. In this essay, we draw upon the expansive nonverbal communication literature to argue for a new approach to teaching speech delivery – an approach we refer to as the interconnected approach. This interconnected approach re-emphasizes the importance of speech delivery, structures the topic of speech delivery around coherent nonverbal clusters, and acknowledges the unnatural pathway to developing a natural speech delivery. Background & Aims: In ACLF patients, an adequate risk stratification is essential, especially for liver transplant allocation, since ACLF is associated with high short‐term mortality. The CLIF‐C ACLF score is the best prognostic model to predict outcome in ACLF patients. While lung failure is generally regarded as signum malum in ICU care, this study aims to evaluate and quantify the role of pulmonary impairment on outcome in ACLF patients. Methods: In this retrospective study, 498 patients with liver cirrhosis and admission to IMC/ICU were included. ACLF was defined according to EASL‐CLIF criteria. Pulmonary impairment was classified into three groups: unimpaired ventilation, need for mechanical ventilation and defined pulmonary failure. These factors were analysed in different cohorts, including a propensity score‐matched ACLF cohort. Results: Mechanical ventilation and pulmonary failure were identified as independent risk factors for increased short‐term mortality. In matched ACLF patients, the presence of pulmonary failure showed the highest 28‐day mortality (83.7%), whereas mortality rates in ACLF with mechanical ventilation (67.3%) and ACLF without pulmonary impairment (38.8%) were considerably lower (p <.001). Especially in patients with pulmonary impairment, the CLIF‐C ACLF score showed poor predictive accuracy. Adjusting the CLIF‐C ACLF score for the grade of pulmonary impairment improved the prediction significantly. Conclusions: This study highlights that not only pulmonary failure but also mechanical ventilation is associated with worse prognosis in ACLF patients. The grade of pulmonary impairment should be considered in the risk assessment in ACLF patients. The new score may be useful in the selection of patients for liver transplantation. Objective: We applied an integrated social cognition model to predict physical distancing behavior, a key COVID-19 preventive behavior, over a four-month period. Design: A three-wave longitudinal survey design. Methods: Australian and US residents (N = 601) completed self-report measures of social cognition constructs (attitude, subjective norm, moral norm, perceived behavioral control [PBC]), intention, habit, and physical distancing behavior on an initial occasion (T1) and on two further occasions one week (T2) and four months (T3) later. Results: A structural equation model revealed that subjective norm, moral norm, and PBC, were consistent predictors of physical distancing intention on all three occasions. Intention and habit at T1 and T2 predicted physical distancing behavior at T2 and T3, respectively. Intention at T2 mediated effects of subjective norm, moral norm, and PBC at T2 on physical distancing behavior at T3, and habit at T1 and T2 mediated effects of behavior at T1 and T2 on follow-up behavior at T2 and T3, respectively. Conclusion: Normative (subjective and moral norms) and capacity (PBC) constructs were consistent predictors of physical distancing intention, and intention and habit were consistent predictors of physical distancing behavior. Interventions promoting physical distancing should target change in normative and personal capacity beliefs, and habit. The complexes 1+–5+ were fully characterized including X‐ray structure analysis. The complex cations reveal linear geometries in the solid state and NMR spectra with extremely broad, paramagnetically shifted resonances. DFT calculations predicted an orbitally degenerate ground state leading to large magnetic anisotropy, which was verified by EPR measurements in solution and on solid samples. The magnetic anisotropy of the complexes is highly dependent from the steric protection of the metal atom, which results in a noticeable decrease of the g‐tensor anisotropy for the N‐Mes substituted complexes 1+ and 2+ in solution due to the formation of T‐shaped THF adducts. The use of multispecies swards on livestock farms is growing due to the wide range of benefits they bring, such as improved biomass yield and animal performance. Preferential uptake of micronutrients by some plant species means the inclusion of legumes and forbs in grass-dominated pasture swards could improve micronutrient provision to livestock via careful species selection. However, although soil properties affect plant micronutrient concentrations, it is unknown whether choosing 'best-performing' species, in terms of their micronutrient content, needs to be soil-specific or whether the recommendations can be more generic. To address this question, we carried out an experiment with 15 common grass, forb and legume species grown on four soils for five weeks in a controlled environment. The soils were chosen to have contrasting properties such as texture, organic matter content and micronutrient concentrations. The effect of soil pH was tested on two soils (pH 5.4 and 7.4) chosen to minimise other confounding variables. Yield was significantly affected by soil properties and there was a significant interaction with botanical group but not species within a botanical group (grass, forb or legume). There were differences between botanical groups and between species in both their micronutrient concentrations and total uptake. Micronutrient herbage concentrations often, but not always, reflected soil micronutrient concentrations. There were soil-botanical group interactions for micronutrient concentration and uptake by plants, but the interaction between plant species (within a botanical group) and soil was significant only for forbs, and predominantly occurred when considering micronutrient uptake rather than concentration. Generally, plants had higher yields and micronutrient contents at pH 5.4 than 7.4. Forbs tended to have higher concentrations of micronutrients than other botanical groups and the effect of soil on micronutrient uptake was only significant for forbs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Promoting the adoption of personal hygiene behaviors known to reduce the transmission of COVID-19, such as avoiding touching one's face with unwashed hands, is important for limiting the spread of infections.Purpose: We aimed to test the efficacy of a theory-based intervention to promote the avoidance of touching one's face with unwashed hands to reduce the spread of COVID-19.Methods: We tested effects of an intervention employing imagery, persuasive communication, and planning techniques in two pre-registered studies adopting randomized controlled designs in samples of Australian (N = 254; Study 1) and US (N = 245; Study 2) residents. Participants were randomly assigned to theory-based intervention or education-only conditions (Study 1), or to theory-based intervention, education-only, and no-intervention control conditions (Study 2). The intervention was delivered online and participants completed measures of behavior and theory-based social cognition constructs pre-intervention and one-week postintervention.Results: Mixed-model ANOVAs revealed a significant increase in avoidance of touching the face with unwashed hands from pre-intervention to follow-up irrespective of intervention condition in both studies, but no significant condition effects. Exploratory analyses revealed significant effects of the theory-based intervention on behavior at follow-up in individuals with low pre-intervention risk perceptions in Study 2.Conclusions: Results indicate high adoption of avoiding touching one's face with unwashed hands, with behavior increasing over time independent of the intervention. Background: Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a common pathology in athletes that often requires operative management in the form of hip arthroscopy. Purpose: To systematically review the rates and level of return to play (RTP) and the criteria used for RTP after hip arthroscopy for FAI in athletes. Study Design: Systematic review; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A systematic review of the literature, based on the PRISMA guidelines, was performed using PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases. Studies reporting outcomes after the use of hip arthroscopy for FAI were included. Outcomes analyzed were RTP rate, RTP level, and criteria used for RTP. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results: Our review found 130 studies, which included 14,069 patients (14,517 hips) and had a mean methodological quality of evidence (MQOE) of 40.4 (range, 5-67). The majority of patients were female (53.7%), the mean patient age was 30.4 years (range, 15-47 years), and the mean follow-up was 29.7 months (range, 6-75 months). A total of 81 studies reported RTP rates, with an overall RTP rate of 85.4% over a mean period of 6.6 months. Additionally, 49 studies reported the rate of RTP at preinjury level as 72.6%. Specific RTP criteria were reported in 97 studies (77.2%), with time being the most commonly reported item, which was reported in 80 studies (69.2%). A total of 45 studies (57.9%) advised RTP at 3 to 6 months after hip arthroscopy. Conclusion: The overall rate of reported RTP was high after hip arthroscopy for FAI. However, more than one-fourth of athletes who returned to sports did not return at their preinjury level. Development of validated rehabilitation criteria for safe return to sports after hip arthroscopy for FAI could potentially improve clinical outcomes while also increasing rates of RTP at preinjury levels.
