A inquietação que nos move nesta Dissertação é problematizar como a morte e as práticas funerárias se apresentam como um veículo político para os grupos da aristocracia à época do Principado de Augusto. Utilizamos como fonte principal a Consolatória a Lívia, documento que nos chega com autoria anônima, destinada à Lívia Drusila, esposa de Augusto, para reconfortá-la pela morte de seu filho Nero Cláudio Druso, ocorrida em 9 a.C. Nosso estudo procurou analisar como a finitude humana, fator biológico, ao atingir a casa imperial, aciona práticas sociais, religiosas, ritualísticas, simbólicas e intencionais que são executadas pelos vivos. A narrativa manifesta os conflitos, as indisposições e as disputas nos espaços de poder entre as gentes Iulia e Claudia em torno da sucessão imperial. Propomos compreender as práticas funerárias representadas na narrativa poética da Consolatória a Lívia como um discurso que nos diz respeito às práticas políticas na Antiguidade; discutir como o contexto social da morte no ambiente imperial direciona à produção de símbolos de poder e à promoção social da memória familiar; apresentar a relação entre a morte e a sacralização dos espaços fúnebres a partir da execução dos rituais coletivos que legitimavam as famílias aristocráticas e sua posição frente à comunidade cívica; e refletir quais são as funções sociais e políticas da consolatória, uma vez que seu conteúdo legitima e justifica a perpetuação das gentes Iulia e Claudia nos espaços de poder, bem como nos apresenta os conflitos públicos que envolvem a casa imperial. The concern that moves us in this dissertation is to discuss how death and funerary practices are presented as a political vehicle for aristocratic groups at the time of the Principality of Augustus. We use the Consolatory to Livia (Consolatio ad Liuiam), a document that comes to us with anonymous authorship, intended for Livia Drusila, wife of Augustus, to comfort her for the death of her son Nero Claudio Druso, which occurred in 9 BC. Our study sought to analyze how human finitude, a biological factor, when reaching the imperial house, provides social, religious, ritualistic, symbolic and intentional practices that are performed by the living. The narrative manifests the conflicts, indispositions and disputes in the spaces of power between the Iulia and Claudia gentes around the imperial succession. We propose to understand the funerary practices represented in the poetic discourse of Consolatory to Livia (Consolatio ad Liuiam), as a discourse that concerns us with political practices in Antiquity; discuss how the social context of death in the imperial environment leads to the production of symbols of power and the social promotion of family memory; to present the relationship between death and the sacralization of funeral spaces based on the execution of collective rituals that legitimized aristocratic families and their position in the civic community; and to reflect on the social and political functions of the consolatory, since the poetic discourse legitimizes and justifies the perpetuation of the Iulia and Claudia gentes in the spaces of power, as well as presents us with the public conflicts that involve the imperial house.
