34. Effects of flange lubrication and blank geometry on square-shell deep drawability of hard pure aluminium sheets

Abstract

Byline: Yasuo Marumo, Hiroyuki Saiki The effects of lubrication, blank geometry and tool geometry on the deformation and fracture mechanisms of hard pure aluminium sheets in square-shell deep drawing were investigated. When hard aluminium square blanks were drawn using tools with a large corner radius, the reduction in friction in the corner flanges prevented localised fracture due to slip bands unique to hard aluminium sheets, and improved deep drawability. The use of blanks with an optimum geometry relieved severe deformation in the punch corners, thereby preventing localised fracture and improving deep drawability considerably. Several lines characterising the deep drawing of square shells were presented in the figures that show the relationships between corner-cut amount, drawing force and fracture force. In addition, a graphical method that uses the features of these lines for evaluating the limiting drawing ratio of optimum blanks was proposed.

Abstract

This paper describes slide-bending formation of thin metal sheet by using an industrial robot. The formation of parts made of very thin sheets has become increasingly important following the miniaturization of industrial products. The thinning of sheet thickness causes several problems on the formability and accuracy of the products. In order to solve such problems in bending, one of the authors proposed a new method called a slide bending formation. However, in order to form more precise products, it is necessary to construct a system which can be controlled more precisely. The authors have made an automatic slide-bending formation system which consists of a force sensor, a CCD camera and an industrial robot. The slide-bending forming tool was mounted on the top of the robot. The reactive forces in the normal and the horizontal direction were measured by the force sensor attached on the wrist. The trajectory of the robot was controlled so that the reactive force was kept constant. The bending angle of the sheet was measured by the CCD camera. From the results of the experiment, it is shown that the larger the reactive force, the larger the bending angle of the thin metal sheet.

Abstract

This research mainly discussed the processing temperature and the processing velocity influence on the deformation resistance and ductility of Mg_Zn_2Y_2, a kind of high-strength magnesium alloys. Therefore, compression deformation experiments of column were performed. We also examined the variation of deformation resistance and ductility of this kind of magnesium alloy. Moreover, the dependence on deformation temperature and deformation speed of this magnesium alloy was evaluated as well.
