Docker is undeniably powerful and revolutionary in how containerized system development is developed today, but it is apparent that the learning curve for it should be addressed, as it typically is complex at times, especially for beginners. One of the fundamental tasks in a Docker workflow is Dockerfile configurations, which at times require ample time to study and observe for attaining the best practices, even the appropriate result. This issue undeniably affects the developer experience. Developer Experience (DX), being a derived field from User Experience (UX) that has been getting traction for the past few years concerns developers’ innate ability to perceive tasks as enjoyable, painful, or perhaps some other sets of emotions. The goal of DX is to evaluate all those factors in order to improve the software development experience, which consequently affects how the project is delivered. In resonance with that, this work aims to enhance the DX by way of proposing and incorporating supporting interaction tools, both based on CLI and GUI as the interface type, with two different permutations: CLI and GUI. The DX of both has to be evaluated by the experts, who are of experienced developers, regardless of whether they have knowledge of Docker or not. The method to test and evaluate two different solutions is conducted qualitatively, with each respondent having a different order of evaluating the two solutions. The qualitative data is thematically analyzed, resulting in GUI being the best option among the two. The contribution of this research is the design guidelines for GUI and CLI-based tools development that enhance the Developer Experience (DX) in the scaffolding of Dockerfile and docker-compose.yml for projects that use Docker.

The increasing accessibility of mobile technology makes it easier for users to use health related applications to combat health issues. In addition to this, gamification has been widely used to increase the engagement between user and application. This study provides an insight into how gamification affects user engagement when using stress management application. Two versions of stress management application were developed, one with gamification element, and the other one without. These two applications were then evaluated by 20 participants using the UES-SF questionnaire, where data on the engagement level of the participants were collected and analysed. The results showed that all participants (100%) prefer the application with gamification to help them manage their stress level better. Statistical tests done revealed that the stress management application with gamification was also found to be significantly more engaging compared to stress management application without gamification (given p ≤ .05). A Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks test indicated that gamified stress management application was rated more favourably than the non-gamified stress management application, with Z score = -3.92, and p = 0.00. The results demonstrated the significance of gamification in increasing user engagement among users when using stress management application.

Assistive technology (AT) has made many tasks possible for people with disabilities. Unfortunately, almost no technology is developed centered around the blind people of developing countries when it comes to navigating. This study explored blind people's concerns and determined the type of design and interaction of a navigation application that are more convenient and favored by blind users. Qualitative research was used to study the problems faced by blind people of developing countries while navigating. Blind people of two organizations in Bangladesh participated voluntarily in the research. The data obtained were analyzed using thematic analysis of ATLAS.ti. The data indicated that merely traveling with the white cane was not enough and there were a lot of problems faced when going from one place to another. A preference was shown for voice-assisted devices. The data were used to build two types of accessible prototypes with good UX, but different interactions, design, layout, spoken content and audio descriptions. Later, the usability testing was performed to investigate the effectiveness of the two types of prototypes from the UI/UX perspective. The results indicated that there was a greater preference for a layout with more spacing and buttons closer to the hands. Audio descriptions, spoken content and being able to navigate using the application also instills a sense of independence. The study contributes to a better knowledge of design solutions and interactions that legally blind people prefer, and to the creation of navigation tools/apps for the blind, specifically from the developing countries such as Bangladesh.

Dengue prevention is the best way to prevent dengue outbreaks, as the tagline goes, “prevention is better than cure”. But the challenges lie on sustaining the preventive activity among the community, which commonly only takes place periodically, i.e. when they are dengue outbreaks, with the presence of health officers under the Communication for Behavioral Impact (COMBI) campaign. In this study, a behaviour change model based on the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) and trigger elements derived from the Fogg Behaviour Model (FBM) is proposed to sustain a community in carrying out preventive activities to prevent dengue. Furthermore, the intervention strategy is added to connect the TTM and FBM. In addition, an interview with the community leader, from the community which used to be a hotspot for dengue, and a survey with its residents are performed to give further insights into the development of the proposed model.

Students especially at universities undergo a lot of pressure and stress, and mental health is something that must not be taken lightly, especially at the time of pandemic as we are experiencing now. The need for us to look into the mental health is constantly reminded everywhere. There are a lot of ways to reduce stress such as meditation, getting involved in sports and one of the most practiced methods is by listening to music. Music has been indeed proved to have positive effects on humans and that it aids healing process such as binaural beats and Solfeggio frequency. These frequencies of music have impact towards the brainwave. This study reports on how the design thinking process was used to better identify the most suitable means on integrating mobile Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) as an application to know the impacts of different type of frequencies of music on the human brain to reduce stress. Besides suggesting a generic guideline to develop an application for mobile BCI, this study also provides us insights into the readiness of mobile BCI as an application for common usage.

Portable brain-computer interfaces (BCI) headsets that available today in the market provides users with unique ability and experience to interact with their mobile phones and tablets. Researchers try to use BCI outside the labs by implementing and developing applications for BCI mostly on Android platform, which are of different types and purposes, such as communication purposes, controlling external devices and for entertainment such as games. But typically, those BCI related applications are somewhat limited in terms of their scope of control, i.e. the users can only interact with one application at a time and cannot switch to other application without touching the device screen. This paper addresses the development of a MotionMouse, a prototype that provides users with an alternative to fully interact and control an Android tablet by controlling not just one, but many different application types. The evaluation of the prototype was based on ISO 9241-11:2018 standards with a result that demonstrate the ability of controlling and generating touch events on the device using Emotiv EPOC+ with effectiveness of 63.82% (accuracy of the correct target) and efficiency of 3.22 clicks per minute. In addition, the participants also found that it was easy to perform the tasks with few showed excitements during the experiment.

We present findings from a three country study exploring the intersection between female intimate health and religious beliefs. Through a qualitative study with Muslim female populations in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Malaysia, three different Muslim majority contexts, we examine the deep impact Islamic beliefs have on female intimate health and well-being. Our study investigates the perceptions, attitudes and behaviours of Muslim women to their own intimate and sexual bodies through their experiences of menarche, marriage and reproduction and menopause. The intersection of religion and female sexual bodies and health is a neglected area within HCI and we highlight how inextricably specific Islamic values are linked with women’s reproductive health in Muslim communities. We further discuss the opportunities and challenges of designing technologies for religious, non-secular beliefs and values with the aim to improve intimate health practices amongst Muslim women and to broaden the scope of health design within HCI.

The Asian CHI symposium 2021 is the joint event organized by the researchers and practitioners in Asia. The symposium aims to bring together young and senior researchers from the academics and industries in one forum to exchange ideas and foster social network in the field of HCI. The symposium showcases the latest HCI work from Asia and those focusing on incorporating Asian sociocultural factors in their design and implementation. In addition to circulating ideas and envisioning future research in human-computer interaction, this symposium aims to foster social networks among academics (researchers and students) and practitioners and grow a research community from Asia.

The issues of localization, globalization of websites, and effects of cultural diversity in design of the user-interfaces have been around for a while, where most of the studies focused on Western, American, Southeast Asian which are commonly portrayed from their perspectives and cultures. Therefore, this research aims to define the design elements of user interfaces which are affected by the cultural diversity through a pilot study on Arabic and Western government websites. This study intends to identify the differences between the government websites of each of (UK, French, Iraq, UAE) in terms of the design features, as well as examine to what extent these features are affected by cultural diversity of nations. The outcomes of this study contribute as guidelines within a content framework that takes into consideration the process of Arabic website development, especially towards improving the e-government websites design.

Interacting with mobiles and portable devices using brain waves has become a reality with the recent advances in the brain-computer interfaces (BCI) development. Today’s BCI technology that provides portable headsets with wireless connectivity and supports multiple platforms, has paved path to many researches developing applications using those headsets on Android platforms. The common scenario however, although those BCI applications are installed on Android devices, the users can only interact with those dedicated BCI applications, but no other. In this study, a conceptual applications model has been proposed, as an alternative, for mobile interaction using BCI to allow a user to interact with operating system rather than interacting with only one dedicated application.

The advent of technology today allows us to stay connected with family and friends, especially through social media applications, where communication can take place easily and in a timely manner. Most of the time we use the applications to share important information and urgent messages or news with our dearest ones because we care. But time and time again, we see headlines highlighting the misuse of these applications to spread false rumors and its damaging impacts. From the point of view of technology, there is almost no help at all in verifying the genuineness of a message shared. Users have to go great lengths to verify the news, but responsible users are not common these days. Furthermore the urgency of these messages sometimes calls to our natural instinct to protect our loved ones. Motivated by this challenge, we propose a mobile application; MyVeri5, to facilitate in checking the genuine status of messages. Through MyVeri5, users who want to verify a message can request to do so by forwarding said messages to the system’s server. The system’s server will forward the message to appointed authorized verifiers from appropriate domains for verification. The verified status of the message will be returned to the requesting user, along with his immediate friends list. MyVeri5 has the potential to minimize the impact of fake messages socially and economically, while still servicing the need for urgency to inform the loved ones. It also supports and upholds the concept of tabayyun, which advocates investigation of news before action and dissemination.

In this paper, we highlighted the importance of User Experience (UX) sketching as one of the skillsets required for UX researchers in project development especially in low participatory design awareness countries like Malaysia. This is due to the results from UX research activities that are not perceived to be impactful by developers, designers and other stakeholders in digital transformation projects especially by the government that has been suffering from vendor-centric Request for Proposal (RFP) tender for the past 60 years. In consequences, time taken by developers to code from requirements captured by business analysts is longer than visual representation produced by UX or UI designers, which shortens the requirement gathering process. In conclusion, we found that UX sketching that produces visual representation of user needs to be effective especially in participatory design approach and to reduce user frustrations.
