Maternal mortality can be reduced by strengthening the process of early detection of high-risk pregnancies. However, the lack of knowledge related to high-risk pregnancy is still an obstacle. This study aims to analyze the effect of health education on the knowledge and attitudes of cadres about early detection of high-risk pregnancy in the working area of Health Centre Mamajang Makassar City. Experimental research with a pretest protest design with a control group, involving 80 cadres spread across 20 Integrated Service Posts who were divided into four treatment groups. There was an increase in mean knowledge between the intervention group (P=0.000) and the control group (P=0.002). There was also an increase in attitude between the intervention group (P=0.000). However, there was no improvement in attitude (P=0.475) in the control group. The intervention group through combined video+booklet had the highest mean knowledge score (6.65-13.90) than the groups that received intervention through video (6.60-12.69) or booklet alone (6.75-12.07), respectively. On attitude, the highest average attitude score in the intervention group was the combined video+booklet group (22.0-35.8), video (21.22-34.65) and booklet alone (22.25-34.55). While the average score of the control group on knowledge (6.00-6.95) and attitude (22.60-23.05). The role of health education by involving a combination of both video and booklet media is appropriate as an effort to influence Integrated Service Post cadres in increasing knowledge and attitudes about the early detection of high-risk pregnancies

The prevalence of diabetic retinopathy (DR), and associated morbidity is high in the Asia-Pacific region. Emerging evidence suggests a potential role for fenofibrate in the prevention of progression of DR, especially in patients with cardiovascular risk, and pre-existing mild-to-moderate DR. Fenofibrate has also been found to reduce maculopathy, and the need for laser treatment in these patients. Considering these benefits of fenofibrate, a group of experts from the fields of endocrinology and ophthalmology convened in May 2017, to discuss on the the mechanism of action, and clinical efficacy of fenofibrate in DR. The findings from key clinical studies on fenofibrate in DR were reviewed by the experts, and consensus statements were derived to define the role of fenofibrate in the prevention and treatment of DR. The statements were rated based on the GRADE criteria. An algorithm was also developed for the screening and treatment of DR in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), and the place of fenofibrate was defined in the algorithm. The expert recommendations, and the algorithm provided in this review will serve as a guide to the clinicians to reconsider the adjunctive use of fenofibrate for preventing the progression of DR in selected T2D patients.

Introduction Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of cardio-metabolic dysfunctions characterised by increased fasting plasma glucose, waist circumference, blood pressure, triglycerides and reduction in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Meanwhile, metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is the new term for fatty liver associated with MetS. People with MetS or MAFLD have higher risks for adverse cardiovascular outcomes and mortalities. However, large-scale data on MetS and MAFLD prevalence in Malaysia is mainly unknown. This study aims to determine the prevalence of MetS and MAFLD among the general adult population in Malaysia.Methods and analysis This is a community-based nationwide cross-sectional study in Malaysia. The data collection period is from July 2023 until September 2023, with a planned sample size of 1296 participants. We use a two-stage proportionate stratified random sampling method to ensure national representativeness. The definition of MetS follows the Harmonised Joint Interim Statement in 2009. A diagnosis of MAFLD is made if a participant has fatty liver, defined as having a Fatty Liver Index ≥60 and has type 2 diabetes, a body mass index ≥23 kg/m2, or ≥2 metabolic risk abnormalities. Complex sample analysis will be conducted, and the disease prevalence will be reported with 95% CIs, unweighted counts and estimated populations.Ethics and dissemination The protocol has been approved by the Medical Research and Ethics Committee of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (NMRR ID-22–02845-GUT). The findings will be disseminated through a formal report, policy brief, scientific publications, conference presentations, social media, print media and stakeholder engagement activities.

This study explores the cultural content represented in the English Textbook used by the deaf students at disable senior high school or SMALB (Tuna Rungu). This book was published by Kemendikbud of Indonesia in 2016. This study was categorized as Descriptive qualitative research. The method used in this study is textbook content analysis. To collect the data, the writers selected the text, pictures and activities presented in each unit of the textbooks. Meanwhile, to analyze the data, the writers adapted two different frameworks. The first framework was used to explore what cultures are represented in the textbook (types of culture). The second framework was used to explore how the cultures were represented in the textbook (sense of culture). There are 157 cultural contents found in the Tunarungu Bahasa Inggris SMALB Grade XI 2016 book. By Type of Culture, the 157 cultural contents were divided into 60 Source Culture, 94 Target Culture and 3 International culture. Meanwhile, in terms of Sense of Culture, the 157 cultural contents were divided into 5 Aesthetic Senses, 3 Sociological Senses, 59 Semantic Senses and 90 Pragmatic Senses.

Kelurahan Labuhbaru Barat merupakan salah satu kelurahan yang ada di Kota Pekanbaru. Kelurahan ini menjadi salah satu tempat pelaksanaan Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN). Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) merupakan salah satu mata kuliah yang ada di perguruan tinggi. KKN menjadi wujud nyata yang harus dilaksanakan oleh mahasiswa dalam bentuk pengabdian yang harus dilakukan oleh mahasiswa. Tujuan pelaksanaan KKN adalah untuk membantu kehidupan masyarakat dari segala aspek, termasuk dalam bidang pendidikan. Pendidikan adalah hal terpenting dalam kehidupan setiap manusia. Setiap manusia harus memiliki pendidikan guna mencapai tujuan dari pembukaan UUD 1945 alinea keempat yakni mencerdaskan kehidupan anak bangsa. Berdasarkan tujuan itu, mahasiswa dapat mengambil langkah untuk membantu pendidikan dengan cara berperan dalam proses pembelajaran di dua sekolah yang ada di Kelurahan Labuhbaru Barat yakni TK Darul Hikmah dan MDA Muhammadiyah. Metode yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa saat menjalankan pengabdian di TK Darul Hikmah dilakukan dengan metode pembelajaran yang menyengkan seperti belajar sambil bermain, belajar melalui lagu, pembelajaran dari buku cerita anak islami, buku bahan ajar literasi dan numerasi. Metode yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa saat menjalankan pengabdian di MDA Muhammadiyah dilakukan dengan metode pembelajaran menyimak bacaan ngaji siswa, pembelajaran sambil bernyanyi, dan hafalan surah pendek. Hasil pengabdian dapat memberikan manfaat dalam peran pembelajaran di TK Darul Hikmah dan MDA Muhammadiyah berupa membantu pengajaran pada dua sekolah.

Acute suppurative thyroiditis is a rare and potentially fatal condition. We present a case of an 18-year-old Malay female who presented with one-week history of painful right sided neck swelling, fever and odynophagia. Neck CT confirms ruptured multiloculated abscess with posterosuperior extension into prevertebral space. Pus and tissue cultured Streptococcus anginosus and Eikenella corrodens with positive TB PCR. She responded well to ampicillin/ sulbactam and anti-tuberculosis treatment with no evidence of residual collection from ultrasound.

This study evaluated the effects of palm shortenings (PS) with varying melting ranges (MR) on the physicochemical, emulsion stability, rheological, thermal, textural, and microtextural properties of chicken meat emulsions. Six emulsions were developed: control (chicken skin), sample A (PS at MR of 33–36 °C), sample B (PS at MR of 38–42 °C), sample C (PS at MR of 44–46 °C), sample D (PS at MR of 45–49 °C), and sample E (PS at MR of 55–60 °C). There were no significant differences in cooking loss, pH, and water-holding capacity between the meat emulsions, with sample E providing a more stable emulsion with the lowest fat content and highest moisture content. The colour profiles and protein thermal stabilities of the fat-replaced meat emulsions were not significantly different from the control. The hardness, shear force, storage, and loss moduli increased when palm shortenings with higher melting range were used, with sample E having the highest values. Sample E also exhibited a smaller pore size and more compact structure, and thus was well-emulsified compared to the other samples. Overall, palm shortenings–particularly those with a melting range of 55–60 °C–have the potential to replace chicken skin in meat emulsions.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to reveal the effect of providing education by video and modification of iron tablet packaging on young women's behaviour in the iron supplementation intake in SMPN 2 and SMPN 1 – Parigi. Methods: This research was a quasi-experimental design with pretest–posttest control group design along with stratified random sampling, which was SMPN 2 Parigi as an Intervention group and SMPN 1 Parigi as a control group. The total sample of 62 respondents in each group. Result: In the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test analysis, the Intervention group (video + modification of iron tablet packaging) valued p = 0.001

Objective: There is a declining trend in the use of modern contraception in the community. The stagnation of family planning services is due to the lack of optimal family planning counseling. Family Planning Balanced Counseling Strategy (FP-BCS) is a family planning counseling that is practical, interactive, and encourages client participation. This study aimed to analyze the influence of the FP–BCS on attitudes, subjective norms, and intentions on modern contraception in the working area of Singgani Health Center, Palu, Indonesia. Method: This research was a quasi-experimental with non-randomized pretest-posttest along to control group design. The sample of the study was third-trimester pregnant women who did antenatal care in the working area of the Singgani Community Health Center. The total sample was 17 respondents for each group; intervention group (treated by Maternal and Child Health (MCH) book and FP-BCS) and control group (treated by MCH Book without FP-BCS). The influence of FP-BCS toward attitudes, subjective norms, and intentions on modern contraception was statistically analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, McNemar, Mann–Whitney, and Chi-Square. Result: The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and McNemar analysis on the intervention group showed an increase in attitude (p = 0.000), subjective norms (p = 0.000), and intention (p = 0.000). The control group showed an increase in intention (0.031), subjective norms (p = 0.005), but there was no increase in attitude (p = 0.081). The Mann-Whitney and Chi-Square analysis showed differences in attitudes (p = 0.000), subjective norms (p = 0.021), and intentions (p = 0.010) between groups, which were given an FP-BSC and those not given an FP-BCS. Conclusion: All in all, it is expected that Family Planning-Balanced Counseling Strategy will be an option in providing family planning counseling.

Objective: One of the indicators in measuring the nutritional status of a particular community is the nutritional status of pregnant women. A nutritional deficiency occurs if nutritional input for pregnant women from food is not balanced with their body's needs. Several determinants are related to nutritional status. This study aimed to determine the relationship between socioeconomic and nutritional status of pregnant women in temporary shelter, Talise, Palu. Methods: This research was a quantitative observational study with a cross-sectional study approach. Sampling was done by random sampling technique, which obtained 85 pregnant women. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. Objective: This study aims to determine the risk factors of asphyxia neonatorum in two PONED Public Health Centers of Nosarara and Pantoloan, in Palu City, Central Sulawesi. Methods: This study used a case-control study design. Sampling was conducted by a simple random sampling technique. The sample size in this study was 60 samples. The data collected was secondary data from medical records at Nosarara and Patoloan Public Health Centers, Palu City. Multivariate analysis used to determine the main risk of the incidence of neonatal asphyxia. Results: The results showed the Prolong Parturition OR = 5.714 (95% CI 1.724–18.944); Prematurity OR = 4.333 (95% CI 1.203–15.605); LBW OR = 7.000 (95% CI 1.381–35.487). Conclusion: risk factors for neonatal asphyxia were prolonged labour, prematurity, and LBW. The main factors causing neonatal asphyxia were LBW.

Objective: This study aimed to map pregnant women with high-risk pregnancies based on age, parity, pregnancy history, childbirth history, illness history, and CED status history as well as the relationship between the six factors. Method: This study utilized a survey method with descriptive data without the intervention of variables but observed phenomena or sought the relationship between phenomena and other variables. The survey was conducted with an approach using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). There were 243 respondents obtained using the Lemeshow formula, while the data were analyzed using spatial techniques and Chi-Square test with p > 0.05. Results: The results of spatial analysis using a 1: 50,000 scale map showed that; (1) high-risk and very high-risk pregnancies dominated Talise, (2) based on age, parity, pregnancy history, childbirth history, illness history, and CED status, cases of high-risk pregnancies were all detected in Talise, (3) age (p = 0.000). Furthermore, pregnancy history (p = 0.004) correlated with a high-risk pregnancy. Besides, parity, childbirth history, illness history, and CED status did not correlate with high-risk pregnancy since the p-value > 0.05; (4) age and pregnancy history influenced the high-risk pregnancy.

Objective: To find out if the breastfeeding father education model can increase exclusive breastfeeding in mothers to prevent the occurrence of postpartum blues. Methods: This study uses literature review design, articles collected using search engines such as PubMed, Elsevier, Scinapse, Plos One, and Google Scholar. We identified journals based on the PRISMA 2015 Guidelines with a total of n = 5690 and obtained the number of journals reviewed n = 33. Results: The father's support is believed to have influenced the mother's decision to start and maintain breastfeeding. Father education is proven to increase breastfeeding with a value of p (0.001)

Eight cases of parathyroid carcinoma were identified (8 females; median age 45 years, range 28-72). Half of whom were diagnosed preoperatively. Hypercalcemic symptoms were seen in 87.5% of the patients and the main complication was nephrolithiasis. At presentation, the median calcium was 3.675 mmol/L, median phosphate of 0.68 mmol/L, median intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) was 211 pmol/L. Five patients had regional nodes metastasis and 1 had distant metastasis to the lungs. Parathyroid gland invasion to adjacent structures was seen in 62.5% of cases while another 62.5% showed capsular or vascular infiltration on histology with median tumour size of 3.2 cm. Recurrent hypercalcemia occurred in 50% of the patients with median time of recurrence of 21 months. In this case series, we found that patients with severe hypercalcemia and high iPTH also exhibited a high index suspicion of PC.

Shortening derived from palm oil is widely used in baking applications. However, palm oil and the related products are reported to contain high levels of monochloropropandiol (MCPD) ester and glycidyl ester (GE). MCPD and glycidol are known as process contaminants, which are carcinogenic and genotoxic compounds, respectively. The objective was to evaluate the effects of antioxidant addition in palm olein and stearin to the content of MCPD esters and GE in baked cake. Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), rosemary extract and tocopherol were used to fortify the samples at 200 mg/kg and in combinations (400, 600 and 800 mg/kg rosemary or tocopherol combined with 200 mg/kg BHA). The MCPD esters and GE content, radical formation and the quality of the fats portion were analyzed. The results showed that palm olein fortified with rosemary extract yielded less 2-MCPD ester. The GE content was lower when soft stearin was fortified with rosemary. ESR spectrometry measurements showed that the antioxidants were effective to reduce radical formation. The synergistic effects of combining antioxidants controlled the contaminants formation. In conclusion, oxidation stability was comparable either in the single or combined antioxidants. Tocopherol in combination with BHA was more effective in controlling the MCPD esters and GE formation.

In 2004, the Malaysian Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of Obesity was published to assist health practitioners in the management of the obese population. This guidelines, based on gathered evidence published up to 2004, defined weight classifications according to BMI suited to the Malaysian population. The guideline also discussed methods of assessing obesity in adults. Recommendations with respect to treatment approach, encompassing lifestyle, dietary, pharmacological and surgical management of obesity in adults, and management approach in children and adolescent were also discussed in detail in the guidelines. The following article summarizes the recommendations that were made in the 2004 guidelines.
