Purpose: We aim to locate degrowth approaches within decolonial social science education and to establish relationships between economic beliefs in the social representations of future teachers and their educational projections. Design/methodology/approach: Theoretical approaches are developed to pinpoint the topic and focus on teachers' imaginaries concerning economic notions such as growth and degrowth. The social representations of teachers in training are analysed to explore their epistemological, formal, and decision-making implications. Findings: Critical views on growth and capitalism are related to acknowledging alternative economic paradigms and to a more critical, complex, action-oriented and justice-oriented projection of educational PBL. Supporters of degrowth are closer to decolonial perspectives in education. Practical implications: We should revise teacher training programmes to better train future teachers in decolonial perspectives. More emphasis on colonial and structural cause-effect complex dynamics of capitalism in socioenvironmental problems is required. The hegemony of neoliberal collective imaginaries should be questioned through social, historical and economic narratives.

In a historical moment, where the future is considered a threat, it seems highly relevant to teach the ability to imagine desirable futures. Education for the Future (EF), from the Anglo-Saxon tradition, represents a reference to give a response to negative images about the idea of the future. The competences for democratic culture defined by the Council of Europe provide the basis for the elaboration of a theoretical framework that includes the imagination of democratic and sustainable futures as one of its main conceptual axes. This study analyses official documents of public policies carried out in the Iberian context, to examine the treatment of the idea of future in education systems. Three levels of policies have been studied: state educational laws, primary education curricula and institutional teacher training policies. The public policies have been analysed using the normative method of content analysis, with a syntactic sampling strategy, calculating the absolute and relative frequency of the units of analysis. Results show that there are few references to the construction of the concept of the future in public policies and suggest that the opportunity to educate others on the imagination of desirable futures may be being wasted.

Background Sports practice, particularly eccentric exercises, induces significant muscular changes, including muscle fiber injuries, strength loss, pain, and increased permeability of the muscle membrane. The duration of muscle recovery depends on factors such as exercise intensity and the specific muscle groups engaged. The inflammatory response plays a crucial role in muscle regeneration, involving various cell types. Curcumin, especially when its stability is enhanced through encapsulation, exhibits potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Supplementing with curcumin can reduce muscle damage and inflammation caused by eccentric exercise, making it a potential remedy for athletes.Objective The objective of this systematic review is to assess the scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of curcumin in reducing muscle damage caused by sports.Methods A structured search in SCOPUS, Medline, and Web of Science databases was conducted in March 2023, including all available articles. The strategy involved selecting English articles without time constraints, using the search terms “curcumin” AND “Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage” (ALL(curcumin AND “Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage”)). Titles and abstracts were screened to assess eligibility. Studies were chosen based on PICOS criteria, and quality was evaluated using the reliable PEDro scale. The eligibility criteria included adults without any diagnosed diseases who regularly exercise (at least three times per week) and follow a consistent pattern of curcumin intake before, during, or after exercise.Results The comprehensive search identified 11 relevant studies investigating the effects of curcumin supplementation in sport-simulated interventions. These studies suggest that curcumin intake may help reduce muscle symptoms associated with eccentric exercises, thereby improving pain perception. Effective use of curcumin depends on factors such as dosage, bioavailability, and timing, with post-exercise ingestion appearing to be more beneficial.Conclusions Curcumin demonstrates a significant potential to relieve muscle-related symptoms, especially delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) that arises from eccentric exercises, thus potentially improving the well-being of those who are trained. It also appears to have the capability to lower biomarkers associated with inflammation and boost antioxidant levels. Nevertheless, for future studies, the bioavailability of curcumin must be considered, as it is a key factor in its efficacy.

Non-hegemonic perspectives on sustainability are grounded in environmental sustainability based on justice. We argue about the potential of co-operatives for learning framed through degrowth epistemological visions promoting pedagogical changes in Higher Education. The context is a public university in Catalonia (Spain) implementing an innovative teaching methodology merging service learning and co-operatives for learning in an Environmental Sciences degree. The research question was: What are the experiences of undergraduate students participating in co-operatives for learning about environmental education? Data collection used focus group interviews and individual reflective narratives. Based on the construct of dialectical tensions, we identify three breaking points for the transition to teaching justice-based environmental sustainability using co-operatives for learning: (1) decommodification of work (tradition/innovation; theory/practice); (2) reconstruction of relationships with 'the other' (individual/collective); and (3) with nature (capitalism/degrowth). We conclude that students' environmental praxis is promoted when addressing new perspectives of development and sustainability in university teaching.

Introducción: El detrimento del dominio femenino en el Complejo religioso Osha-Ifá tiene diferencias que requieren ser examinadas. Este estudio consiste en argumentar las contradicciones de la exclusión femenina en el Complejo religioso Osha-Ifá. Métodos: Se emplearon los métodos siguientes: análisis bibliográfico, análisis conversacional, observación no participante incluida encubierta, observación no participante incluida abierta, análisis de contenido, historia de vida y entrevista semiestructurada a una muestra intencional de 239 sujetos. Resultados: Las contradicciones se argumentan mediante fundamentos históricos del origen y el desarrollo de esta religión, las condicionantes sociales y culturales y a partir de la disociación de la tríada mito-simbólico-ritual en la división sexual del trabajo, la corporalidad, la participación y la autonomía femeninas religiosas en el Complejo religioso Osha-Ifá. Conclusiones: Estas contradicciones se fundamentan en un sistema-campo patriarcal que niega, devalúa u olvida el origen, la supervivencia y la preeminencia del Complejo religioso Osha-Ifá asociados al liderazgo y al empoderamiento femeninos religiosos.

Foundation: basal cell carcinoma is a very common malignant tumor in humans. It is considered locally invasive, also aggressive and destructive. Objective: to show the behavior of patients with basal cell carcinoma diagnosed by dermoscopy in dermatology clinic of the Miguel Enríquez University Hospital, between June 2020 and May 2021. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out to show the behavior of patients with basal cell carcinoma who attended the dermatology consultation at the Miguel Enríquez University Hospital from June 2020 to May 2021. The universe of study was made up of patients older than 18 years who presented one or more presumptive lesions of basal cell carcinoma less than 3 cm in diameter. The variables used were: age, sex, skin phototype, clinical forms, dermoscopic patterns, topography of the lesion, occupation related or not to sun exposure. We worked with absolute frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation, maximum and minimum values, the ratio, chi-square and student's t tests, with significance p≤0.05. Results: it prevailed in the elderly (66.4±14.9 years), in men (54.1 %), with phototype 2 (57.8 %), and in the nose 33.9 %. The nodular form was more frequent (41.3 %), occupation exposed to the sun (66.9 %), average size of the lesion 1.4 cm. Dermoscopy showed a predominance of arborizing vessels (73.4 %). By histology, 90.8 % of the cases were confirmed. Conclusions: the elderly prevailed among the patients, with phototype 2. The nodular form was more frequent, the average size of the lesion was 1.4 cm. Dermoscopy showed a predominance of arborizing vessels. Dermoscopy turned out to be a necessary tool for systematic use in dermatology.

Jesús Moncada (Mequinensa 1941-Barcelone 2005), né dans la “Franja de Ponent” et figure majeure des Lettres Catalanes, a placé sa ville natale au cœur de sa production littéraire. En retour, sa ville natale a placé Moncada et son œuvre au cœur de son patrimoine culturel. Le sens et la portée de sa production littéraire – avec l’écriture, la langue, l’univers et les espaces qu’elle véhicule – ainsi que les enjeux de sa patrimonialisation ne peuvent pas être saisis sans tenir compte de l’origine et de l’appartenance géographique et linguistique de l’auteur, ni sans étudier la place privilégiée qu’il accorde dans ses récits à Mequinensa et à la question de la mémoire.

Cet article amorce quelques pistes de réflexion sur le fait humoristique dans Penja els guants, Butxana (1985) de Ferran Torrent : le dispositif communicationnel et énonciatif dans lequel il apparaît, la thématique sur laquelle il porte, les procédés langagiers (linguistiques et discursifs) qui le mettent en œuvre.

Abstract Hate speech has become a social problem that needs to be addressed urgently. In many cases, these discourses and ideologies arrive through the media and the internet, and they are transferred to educational contexts. Debates of this type should be addressed at school and should be channelled into a democratic debate, and into the definition of shared objectives through the development of counterspeeches and alternative narratives based on Human Rights. In this research, we investigate the capacity of future teachers (n = 114) to identify online hate speech and how they develop counterspeeches. The results show that the majority are able to identify hate speech. However, future teachers present more difficulties developing counterspeeches or complex alternative narratives, which can be transferred to educational practices. We conclude that teacher training needs to be redesigned if we want them to be able to face these problems in their future educational practice.

Intermittent fasting (IF) has proven to be a feasible dietary intervention for the wider population. The recent increase in IF clinical trials highlights its potential effects on health, including changes in body composition, cardiometabolic status, and aging. Although IF may have clinical applications in different populations, studies suggest there may be sex-specific responses in parameters such as body composition or glucose and lipid metabolism. Here, the existing literature on IF clinical trials is summarized, the application of IF in both disease prevention and management is discussed, and potential disparities in response to this type of diet between men and women are assessed. Moreover, the potential mechanisms that may be contributing to the sexually dimorphic response, such as age, body composition, tissue distribution, or sex hormones are investigated. This review underscores the need to further study these sex-specific responses to IF to define the most effective time frames and length of fasting periods for men and women. Tailoring IF to specific populations with a personalized approach may help achieve its full potential as a lifestyle intervention with clinical benefits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Con la Revolución Cubana las mujeres rurales cubanas se dignifican en los espacios público y privado mediante políticas, programas y estrategias sociales y económicas; sin embargo, se denotan insatisfacciones y contradicciones hacia el empoderamiento femenino en las redes de innovación agropecuaria local en el municipio de Camajuaní en Villa Clara. Ante esta situación, se pretende valorar las redes de innovación agropecuaria local en Villa Clara desde un enfoque feminista. Las valoraciones develan masculinización de las redes de innovación agropecuaria, cultura agraria patriarcal y antifeminista marcada por un discurso complaciente dirigido a la falta de innovaciones con enfoque de equidad de género para incluir a más mujeres en la agricultura.

Abstract The aim of the present work is to describe the differences in rs-fMRI measures (Amplitude of low frequency fluctuations [ALFF], Regional Homogeneity [ReHo] and Functional Connectivity [FC]) between patients exposed to Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and a control group. Forty-nine ADT patients and fifteen PC-non-ADT patients (Controls) were included in the study. A neuropsychological evaluation and a resting-state fMRI was performed to evaluate differences in ALFF and ReHo. Region of interest (ROI) analysis was also performed. ROIs were selected among those whose androgen receptor expression (at RNA-level) was the highest. FC analysis was performed using the same ROIs. Higher ALFF in frontal regions and temporal regions was identified in Controls than in ADT patients. In the ROI analysis, higher activity for Controls than ADT patients was shown in the left inferior frontal gyrus and in the left precentral gyrus. Lower ALFF in the right hippocampus and the lateral geniculate nucleus of the right thalamus was identified for Controls than ADT patients. Higher ReHo was observed in Controls in the left parietal-occipital area. Finally, ADT patients presented an increase of FC in more regions than Controls. These differences may reflect an impairment in brain functioning in ADT users.

Se analiza el contexto político y la documentación urbana de la Representació de l’Assumpció de Madona Sancta Maria, primera pieza escénica íntegra que nos ha pervivido en lengua catalana y una de las primeras de Europa de argumento asuncionista. El espectáculo se hizo en septiembre de 1388 en la Plaza del Corral de Tarragona, tras la autorización del rey, y al parecer organizado por una cofradía vinculada a los franciscanos, en presencia del fraile más célebre de la orden: Francesc Eiximenis. El texto de 675 versos se conserva en el manuscrito 60 del Archivo Histórico Archidiocesano de Tarragona, y su interpretación mayormente cantada se anota al son de himnos litúrgicos y canciones profanas.

Some autosomal genes are expressed in a random monoallelic manner, but its extent and mechanisms have remained unclear. Here the authors show robust monoallelic expression in cell lines and mice, where the silent allele can be reexpressed using epidrugs. Further, they find these genes display various modalities of allelic expression with different degrees of allelic imbalance.

Questioning gender – by understanding that questions about gender are political - is one of the core implications of feminist epistemologies. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to how a gender perspective can question some dominant framings on citizenship education, and to discuss different ways in which feminist theory can help us to democratise political education practice. We begin by conceptualising politics as a relational practice, a place “in-between”, in which power is understood as concrete embodied actions, and the personal is recognized as political. We then examine three key notions associated with political education: citizenship, participation, and rights through the lens of feminist-relational theory, we question their possible shortcomings and identify political education paradigms that enable not only critical understanding, but also transgression. We conclude suggesting ways in which feminist-relational theory can help us to reconsider political education, further democratising who we care for, what we care for and how we care.

Introduction Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene (Riordan et al. 1989). CFTR is an ATP-gated chloride [...], Cystic fibrosis (CF) is caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene. It has been postulated that reduced HC[O.sub.3.sup.-] transport through CFTR may lead to a decreased airway surface liquid pH. In contrast, others have reported no changes in the extracellular pH (pHe). We have recently reported that in carcinoma Caco-2/pRS26 cells (transfected with short hairpin RNA for CFTR) or CF lung epithelial IB3-1 cells, the mutation in CFTR decreased mitochondrial complex I activity and increased lactic acid production, owing to an autocrine IL-1[beta] loop. The secreted lactate accounted for the reduced pHe, because oxamate fully restored the pHe. These effects were attributed to the IL-1[beta] autocrine loop and the downstream signaling kinases c-Src and JNK. Here we show that the pHe of IB3-1 cells can be restored to normal values (~7.4) by incubation with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR, HER1, ErbBl) inhibitors AG1478 and PD168393. PD168393 fully restored the pHe values of IB3-1 cells, suggesting that the reduced pHe is mainly due to increased EGFR activity and lactate. Also, in IB3-1 cells, lactate dehydrogenase A mRNA, protein expression, and activity are downregulated when EGFR is inhibited. Thus, a constitutive EGFR activation seems to be responsible for the reduced pHe in IB3-1 cells. Key words: CFTR, cystic fibrosis, EGFR, extracellular pH, IB3-1 cells, lactate, LDH. Il a ete postule qu'un transport reduit du HC[O.sub.3.sup.-] a travers le CFTR dans la FK pourrait entrainer une diminution du pH du liquide a la surface des voies respiratoires. En revanche, d'autres chercheurs n'ont signale aucune modification du pH extracellulaire (pHe). Les auteurs ont recemment signale que dans les cellules de carcinome Caco-2/pRS26 (shARN pour le CFTR) ou les cellules d'epithelium pulmonaire de FK IB3-1, la defaillance du CFTR diminuait l'activite du complexe I mitochondrial en raison d'une boucle autocrine impliquant l'IL-1[beta] et d'une augmentation de la production d'acide lactique. Le lactate secrete expliquait la reduction du pHe, puisque l'oxamate reta-blissait completement le pHe. Ces effets ont ete attribues a la boucle autocrine de l'IL-1[beta] et aux kinases de signalisation c-Src et JNK agissant en aval. Ils montrent ici que le pHe des cellules IB3-1 peut etre ramene a des valeurs normales (~7,4) par une incubation avec les inhibiteurs AG1478 ou PD168393 du recepteur du facteur de croissance epidermique (EGFR, HER1, ErbBl). L'inhibi-teur PD168393 retablissait entierement les valeurs du pHe des cellules IB3-1, ce qui suggere que la reduction du pHe est principalement due a l'augmentation de l'activite de l'EGFR et au lactate. De plus, dans les cellules de FK IB3-1, l'ARNm de la LDHA, l'expression et l'activite de la proteine sont regulees a la baisse par l'inhibition de l'EGFR. Ainsi, une activation constitutive de l'EGFR semble etre responsable de la reduction du pHe dans les cellules de FK IB3-1. Objectives Performance evaluation of routine laboratory methods to determine the susceptibility of Enterobacterales urinary isolates to fosfomycin (oral administration) and mecillinam. Methods We collected 347 Enterobacterales isolates from monomicrobial midstream urine samples from women with significant bacteriuria and leukocyturia. Mostly non- Escherichia coli isolates (i.e. Klebsiella spp. Citrobacter koseri , Enterobacter cloacae complex and Proteus mirabilis) were included (n  = 298). Performance of VITEK®2, ETEST®, and disc diffusion to determine fosfomycin and mecillinam susceptibility was evaluated following International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 20776-2:2021 (or 20776-2:2007 for disc diffusion) in comparison with the agar dilution reference method. Results For fosfomycin testing, VITEK®2 and ETEST® were close to reaching ISO requirements (essential agreement  ≥ 90%; bias  ±30%) for C. koseri , E. coli and P. mirabilis. Categorical agreement (CA) and major error rates were acceptable for disc diffusion. Fosfomycin displayed lower activity against E. cloacae complex and Klebsiella spp. with MIC50 (minimum inhibitory concentration required to inhibit the growth of 50% of tested isolates) equal to the E. coli EUCAST breakpoint (8 mg/L). For these species, the three alternative techniques overestimated MICs and resistance, and did not meet performance criteria. For mecillinam testing of Enterobacterales isolates, apart from P. mirabilis , ETEST® nearly fulfilled ISO requirements, and CA rates were acceptable for disc diffusion. ISO criteria were reached for C. koseri and E. coli testing with VITEK®2, apart from too high rates of very major errors. For P. mirabilis, performances were unacceptable, whatever the routine method used. Conclusions Commercially available tests may serve as alternatives to agar dilution to assess fosfomycin (oral) and mecillinam susceptibility of Enterobacterales urinary isolates, with important interspecies variabilities. Additional studies comprising more fosfomycin- and mecillinam-resistant isolates are needed to strengthen our conclusions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
