Abstract

Le precipitazioni praticamente assenti dal mese di febbraio non hanno compromesso le produzioni dell’orzo, che hanno raggiunto 7,1 t/ha al Nord, 6,8 al Centro e 6,4 t/ha al Sud e nelle Isole. La Rete delle prove ha riguardato la valutazione di 36 varietà di orzo da zootecnia in diverse località rappresentative della produzione nazionale.

Riscuotono maggiore interesse i risultati delle prove effettuate al Centro-Sud, dato che la coltivazione dell’orzo da birra si concentra lì: la media produttiva è stata di 5,7 t/ha. Al Nord le prove sono utili per un futuro sviluppo della coltura: in questo caso la produzione media è stata di 4,9 t/ha

Abstract

Il clima ha consentito una delle migliori stagioni a livello di rese compensando i prezzi bassi. Seconda stagione consecutiva positiva per gli agricoltori che hanno puntato sull’orzo. La produzione media complessiva al nord (33 varieta’ testate in 8 localita’ diverse) ha raggiunto le 7,6 t/ha; nel centro Italia, le 32 varieta’ testate nelle 6 località hanno registrato una media di 6,7 t/ha; infine, il sud ha registrato una rea media decisamente buona (5 t/ha) e superiore allo scorso anno. Inoltre, quest’anno l’andamento climatico ha reso conveniente fare orzo da birra anche al centro-nord.

Abstract

In generale, il 2015 è stato un anno decisamente diversificato per quanto riguarda le produzioni, ma certamente più favorevole per la coltura dell’orzo primaverile al Centro-Nord, che dopo due anni negativi si riallinea al 2012 con una media produttiva di 5,3 t/ha.

Abstract

La rete delle prove nazionali di orzo da zootecnia per l’annata 2014-2015 mostra risultati molto diversi a seconda della località. La media produttiva al Nord risulta di 6,5 t/ha come lo scorso anno, al Centro in deciso aumento con 6,7 t/ha, mentre al Sud la produttività evidenzia una perdita di 1 t/ha.

The main goal of this work has been to compare two techniques for establishing switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) under the Mediterranean climate: direct sowing vs transplanting. Two ecotypes have been tested at two sites of southern Europe (Apulia region, Italy): a wild ecotype (‘Upland type’) and the ‘Alamo’ cultivar (‘Lowland type’). Since soil water availability is crucial during the stages of germination and plant emergence, preliminary tests have compared four sowing times (from March to June) in order to verify if switchgrass crops could be established from seed without any irrigation supply. This hypothesis has been rejected due to low soil moisture which has not allowed a good germination. In late spring 2010, the wild ecotype has been sown and the crop establishing has occurred with supplemental irrigation. In early summer 2012, ‘Alamo’ cultivar has been transplanted by using seedlings (15-20 cm in high) obtained in seed-tray pots arranged in a floating system. Supplemental irrigations have been applied during the first growing season. The paper reports the experimental results concerning the setting up trials and the preliminary indications on the biomass that could be obtained from ‘sown’ or ‘transplanted’ switchgrass crops. Results have shown that the transplanting technique could be more suitable in the Mediterranean environment (less water supplied during the establishing phase of the crop) and that the oven dried biomass production of ‘Alamo’ can range between 3 and 7 t ha-1 in the first vegetative season., Proceedings of the 21st European Biomass Conference and Exhibition, 3-7 June 2013, Copenhagen, Denmark, pp. 334-338

In Italy, Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) have been inserted in cultural plans of several farms in the last years. More than 7000 hectares of Short Rotation Forestry (SRF)/(SRC) have been planted, mainly in Northern Italy where biomass thermoelectric power plants have been installed. Mainly, the species cultivated in experimental trials and commercial stand are: poplar, willow, black locust and eucalyptus. In order to extend SRC species in Southern Italy and to verify the production of the fast growing in this environment, the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies of Italy funded a specifically research program (FAESI). This work reports preliminary results on growth dynamics and biomass production of three short rotation coppices with poplar, black locust and eucalyptus. The experiment took place in a typical area of Apulia region which could be used for energy crops. Unrooted cuttings of poplar clones and seedlings one year old of the other species were planted in 2010 spring comparing two densities: 1667 and 6667 trees per hectare. Data collection concerned: direct observation and dendrometric recording during the growing season, biomass production and calorific value at the end of the first two-year rotation. Among the species, Eucalyptus had the highest mean yields, reaching 12 Oven dry tons per hectare (Odt ha-1). The results of a study on Brassica carinata A. Braun, genotypes CT 204, in semi-marginal areas of southern Italy are shown in this paper. The research was carried out in three sites of Apulia region, Alberobello -Murgia of Bari (S1), Troia - Sub Apennine Dauno, Foggia (S2), Monteroni - Area of Salento, Lecce (S3) and one site of Basilicata region, Matera - Hill Materana (S4). The B. carinata in all trial areas was submitted to different doses of nitrogen fertilization, no nitrogen supply, low doses of 50 and 60 kg N ha-1 and high doses of 100 and 120 kg N ha-1. The S2 and S4 sites were subjected to minimum and conventional tillage and in the S3 site, two sowing densities of 50 and 100 plant m2 were used. The site with the highest seed yield was S4 site (3.2 t ha-1) under conventional tillage in interaction with organic fertilizer and with or without mineral nitrogen addition. In the S1 site with the application of 100 kg N ha-1, although the marginality of the site due to shallow soil layer, seed yield was 1.8 t ha-1 and there was the highest percentage of oil content (41%). In the S1 site, the effects of nitrogen fertilization were more noticeable which determined increases in seed yield and oil content proportional to the increases in N doses. (eds.); A new saline stress index was developed for CERES-Maize, a computer model of maize growth and development, in order to simulate crop response to irrigation with saline water in Mediterranean conditions. Changes from the original model consisted in modifying the estimation of the stress coefficient, which was defined as a function of predawn leaf water potential. The study was carried out at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari using a set-up of 30 drainage lysimeters. Linear regression between mean simulated and measured data showed that the model performed well for final grain yield though it tended to underestimate (∼ 8%) above-ground biomass and maximum LAI. The largest evapotranspiration over-estimations were found early in the growing season immediately after each irrigation event. However, the prediction of seasonal evapotranspiration was generally reasonably good.

(eds.); Mathematical models prove to be an useful tool to define the best water management in saline conditions. A review of the most known existing models is given in the paper. They can be divided into two main groups: seasonal models, based on an equation that relates yield to the amount of applied irrigation water of a given salinity; transient models, following a mechanistic approach, but generally simplistic in crop dynamics. A new crop-based model for water salinity management is proposed to rectify deficiencies in existing models with respect to crop response to salinity. The CERES-Maize model was modified in the original water uptake term for assessing salinity effects on crop. Reasonable agreementwas found between model predictions and experimentally measured data for crop evapotranspiration, biomass, LAI and grain yield. The model may represent a valid tool for salinity risk evaluation

Citato su WebOfKnowledge ----- Between January 1974 and December 1997, 77 patients with pancreatic head carcinoma underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy. The overall post-operative mortality rate was 5.2% and morbidity was 23.4%. Median survival following resection was 17 months and the estimated 5-year survival was 18.2 % (14 patients). Of the 77 patients, 25 (32.5%) had negative lymph nodes. The median and 5-year survival in these node-negative patients were 33 months and 40%, respectively. Whereas the median survival and 5-year survival in 52 patients with lymph nodes metastases were 14 months and 7.7%, respectively (P < 0.0001). There were 4 five-year survivors in the group of patients with lymph node metastases: in 2 patients was performed extensive lymph node dissection (R2) and in other 2 patients R1 procedure. In the patients with lymph node metastases undergoing R1 resection (n=39), the 5-year survival rate was 5.1%. Whereas in the patients with positive lymph nodes undergoing R2 resection (n=14), the 5-year survival rate was 14.3% (P < 0.02).

Abstract

Chapter 2; Soybean was grown in a lysimeters filled with loam and clay soils and was irrigated with water having three different levels of salinity (fresh water, and saline waters with 15 and 30meq Cl/l). During the soybean crop cycle, soil salinity was determined from the salt balance. Leaf-water potential, stomatal conductance and actual evapotranspiration were used as the water-stress indicators. Growth was measured through leaf area and dry matter and, finally, the yield and its components were determined. The water use efficiency was also calculated. Without salt stress (treatments irrigated with fresh water), the effect of soil texture on the water relationship, productivity and water use efficiency of the soybean was not demonstrated. With salt stress, all the parameters, in both types of soil, were coherent, indicating systematic differences between the saline treatments and the control treatments (treatments irrigated with fresh water). Soil texture affects the soybean response to soil salinity. The saline treatments in the loam soil caused the values of the water stress indicators, of growth, of yield and of water use efficiency to be higher than the highest values observed for the same treatments on the clay soil. The analysis of the relationship between relative yield and soil salinity indicates clearly that soybean shows a higher salt tolerance if it is cultivated in loam soil.

Potato, maize, sunflower, sugar beet, soy-bean, and tomato were cultivated in a lysimeter set-up on two soil types, loam and clay, simultaneously during the same season Crops were grown under the same conditions of climate, mineral nutrition and plant density and were well-watered during the whole crop cycle.As for potato, sunflower and sugar beet, stomatal conductance, evapotranspiration, leaf area, yield, and radiation use efficiency (RUE) were systematically lower on clay than on loam. The other three species were not sensitive to soil texture, excepted for the yield of maize.The results cast doubt on RUE's values being independent from soil texture, as is commonly hypothesized by models simulating the productivity under well-watered conditions.

Citato 2 volte in letteratura internazionale (Fonte: Scopus.com) Background/Aims: During the past decade, the development of mini-invasive surgery has determined a resurgence in popularity of the antireflux surgery. The purpose of this study is to examine indications, preoperative evaluation, surgical techniques, and outcomes after mini-invasive surgery. Methodology: From 1996 to 2000, 25 patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease associated to hiatal hernia underwent laparoscopic surgery. The indication for surgery was failure of long-term medical therapy. All patients had severe acid reflux on 24h-pH monitoring, endoscopic evidence of esophagitis, and defective lower esophageal sphincter. Nissen fundoplication was performed in 16 patients with normal esophageal body motility, and 270 degrees posterior fundoplication in 9 patients with low esophageal motility. Results: Mortality and conversion rate were 0. Mean operative time was 130 minutes and mean postoperative hospital stay 5 days. Twenty-four (96%) patients were completely cured of reflux symptoms off all medications. Transient, mild postoperative dysphagia occurred in 3 patients (12%). There was a significant improvement of the results in postoperative esophageal manometry and 24h-pH monitoring. Conclusions: Despite the fact that few patients were treated by using laparoscopic approach, results are encouraging with less morbidity and great advantages for patients. Precise selection of patients and surgical techniques are essential.

Seven varieties of durum wheat (Triticum turgidum), provided by ICARDA, were tested in a greenhouse experiment for their salt tolerance. Afterwards two varieties, differing in salt tolerance, were irrigated with waters of three different salinity levels in a lysimeter experiment to analyse their salt tolerance. The characteristics of the salt tolerant variety compared to the salt sensitive variety are: - a shorter growing season and earlier senescence; - a higher pre-dawn leaf water potential; - a stronger osmotic adjustment; - a better maintenance of the number of productive stems per plant. Salt tolerance of durum wheat corresponds with drought tolerance because the tolerance is caused by earlier senescence and stronger osmotic adjustment, both reducing the transpiration of the plant
