ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization、国際民間航空機関)の下で航法の将来技術を検討するFANS(Future Air Navigation System)委員会では衛星航法の導入についてさまざまな角度から検討を進め、精密進入着陸時にGPS(Global Positioning System、全地球測位システム)を使用する航法システムの研究開発を推進している。その実用化のための主要な技術課題として、以下のものが考えられる。(1)サブメートルの測位精度の実現すること、(2)広いダイナミックレンジをもつ6自由度航法を実現すること、(3)高い利用性を連続性を保証する高信頼システムであること。米国のFAA(Federal Aviation Administration、連邦航空局)は、各研究機関と協同でシュードレンジを観測量とするDGPS(Differential GPS, ディファレンシャルGPS)航法の高精度化を進め、カテゴリーIIIまで対応可能な精密進入着陸のための航法システムを実現しようとしている。一方、搬送波位相を観測量とするDGPS航法、いわゆるキネマティックGPS航法はマルチパスに強くセンチメートルの測位精度をもつが、利用性や連続性に制限あるとして開発対象からはずされた。本報告では、FAAとは別のアプローチで、GPSの搬送波位相を観測量とする精密進入着陸のための航法システムを提案する。すなわち、すでに航空機の航法アビオニクスとして実績のあるINS(Inertial Navigation System、慣性航法システム)を用いることで広いダイナミックレンジをもつ6自由度航法を実現し、また高い利用性と連続性を確保する。測位精度の向上にはDGPSとの複合化によるINS誤差の推定・除去(DGPS/INS複合航法)を考える。DGPS/INS複合航法アルゴリズムにおいてINSのドリフト誤差を除去するには、シュードレンジではなくマルチパスに対して強固なGPSの搬送波位相を使用し、サブメートルまで測位精度を向上させる。提案する航法システムは、理論精度解析により搬送波位相アンビギュイティの可観測性と測位精度の向上を確認した後、ドルニエ機を使って飛行実証された。飛行実験結果は、測位精度とサイクルスリップに対するロバスト性の観点から評価され、それぞれ予測通りの性能が得られていることが明らかになった。, The FANS (Future Air Navigation System) committee, under the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), is studying utilization of the global navigation satellite system and advising on the development of a GPS (Global Positioning System) precision approach and landing navigation system for improving flight safety around terminal areas. The principal problems in the creation of the system are as follows: (1) achieving sub-meter level accuracy; (2) providing six-degree of freedom navigation information characterized by a wide dynamic range; and (3) creating a system with high availability and high continuity. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) of the United States, in cooperation with several universities and laboratories, is developing a DGPS (Differential GPS) navigation system for Category 3 landing, which provides high positioning accuracy using the smoothed pseudorange. Meanwhile a decision has been made to discontinue development of the kinematic GPS navigation system using the carrier phase because of problems with availability and continuity even if the system has centimeter-level positioning accuracy. A GPS navigation system using the carrier phase is proposed, based on an idea different from that of FAA's kinematic GPS navigation. The system employs the INS (Inertial Navigation System), widely recognized as a reliable form of navigation avionics, to provide six-degree of freedom navigation information, and achieve a wide dynamic range, high availability and high continuity. Navigation accuracy is improved by integrating the INS with the DGPS. For the DGPS/INS integration, the carrier phase as a measurement for filtering the INS drift error was used. The proposed system then performs sub-meter level navigation because the carrier phase is tolerant to multipath errors in comparison with the pseudorange. The proposed system was evaluated via flight experiments using the NAL Dornier 228, while error analysis ensured the observability of the carrier phase ambiguity and the improvement of positioning accuracy. Parity nonconservation (PNC) was studied in p-wave resonances in Ag by measuring the helicity dependence of the neutron total cross section. Transmission measurements on natural Ag were performed in the energy range 32 to 422 eV with the time-of-flight method at the Manuel Lujan Neutron Scattering Center at Los Alamos National Laboratory. A total of 15 p-wave neutron resonances were studied in 107Ag and nine p-wave resonances in 109Ag. Statistically significant asymmetries were observed for eight resonances in 107Ag and for four resonances in 109Ag. An analysis treating the PNC matrix elements as random variables yields a weak spreading width of Γw = (2.67+2.65-1.21) × 10-7 eV for 107Ag and Γw = (1.30+2.49-0.74) × 10-7 eV for 109Ag.

Moreover, if GPS navigation with Differential GPS (DGPS) technique performs high navigation accuracy and can be applied to the landing phase, the onboard GN & C (Guidance Navigation and Control) system of the space plane is simplified and its weight is reduced. NAL and NASDA have been studying the GPS navigation for an automatic landing. As one of the research items of the Automatic Landing Flight Experiment (ALFLEX), the pseudolite DGPS system for ALFLEX was designed and manufactured, and its function and performance were evaluated by using real flight data. A new search has been performed for parity violation in the compound nuclear states of 94Nb by measuring the helicity dependence of the neutron total cross section. Transmission measurements on a thick niobium target were performed by the time-of-flight method at the Manuel Lujan Neutron Scattering Center with a longitudinally polarized neutron beam in the energy range 32 to 1000 eV. A total of 18 p-wave resonances in 93Nb were studied with none exhibiting a statistically significant parity-violating longitudinal asymmetry. An upper limit of 1.0× 10-7 eV (95% confidence level) was obtained for the weak spreading width Γw in 93Nb.
