Let $\textrm{Mat}_2(\mathbb{R})$ be the set of $2 \times 2$ matrices with real entries. For any $\varepsilon>0$ and any finitely--supported probability measure $\mu$ on $\textrm{Mat}_2(\mathbb{R})$, we prove that either \[ T(\mu) = \sum_{X, Y \in {\rm supp}(\mu), XY = YX} \mu(X) \mu(Y) < \varepsilon \] or there exists some finite set $S$ contained in a $2$-dimensional subspace of $\textrm{Mat}_2(\mathbb{R})$ such that $\mu(S) \gg \varepsilon^{3}$. We prove quantitatively stronger results when \[ \mu ( (a_{i,j})_{1\leq i,j \leq 2}) = \nu(a_{1,1}) \dots \nu(a_{2,2}) \ \ \text{for every} \ a_{1,1}, \dots, a_{2,2} \in \mathbb{R}, \] with $\nu$ being some finitely--supported probability measure on $\mathbb{R}$. For instance, when $A \subset \mathbb{R}$ is a proper generalised arithmetic progression of dimension $d$, and $\nu = 1_{A}/|A|$, our methods imply that $T(\mu) \ll_d |A|^{-3}$. This is optimal up to the $O_d(1)$ factor. Our proofs involve incidence geometric techniques as well as ideas surrounding the recent progress on Bourgain--Chang type sum-product estimates over $\mathbb{R}$. Braaten and Weller discovered that the star-discrepancy of Halton sequences can be strongly reduced by scrambling them. In this paper, we apply a similar approach to those subsequences of Halton sequences which can be identified to have low-discrepancy by results from p-adic discrepancy theory. For given finite $N$, it turns out that the discrepancy of these sets is surprisingly low. By that known empiric bounds for the inverse star-discrepancy can be improved.

Let $\overline X$ be a smooth rigid variety over $C=\mathbb C_p$ admitting a lift $X$ over $B_{dR}^+$. In this paper, we use the stacky language to prove a nilpotent $p$-adic Riemann-Hilbert correspondence. After introducing the moduli stack of $\mathbb B^+_{dR}$-local systems and $t$-connections, we prove that there is an equivalence of the nilpotent locus of the two stacks: $RH^0:LS^0_X \to tMIC^0_X$, where $LS^0_X$ is the stack of nilpotent $\mathbb B^+_{dR}$-local systems on $\overline X_{1,v}$ and $tMIC^0_X$ is the stack of $\mathcal{O}_X$-bundles with integrable $t$-connection on $X_{et}$., Comment: 15 pages, all comments welcome!

We studies the Newton polygon for the L-function of toric exponential sums attached to a family of two variable generalized hyperkloosterman sum,$f_{t}(x,y)=x^{n}+y+\frac{t}{xy}$ with $t$ the parameter. The explicit Newton polygon is obtained by systematically using Dwork's $\theta_{\infty}$-splitting function with an appropriate choice of basis for cohomology following the method of Adolphson and Sperber[2]. Our result provides a non-trivial explicit Newton polygon for a non-ordinary family of more than one variable with asymptotical behavior, which gives an evidence of Wan's limit conjecture[15]., Comment: Comments are welcome

Let $w$ be a finite word over the alphabet $\{0,1\}$. For any natural number $n$, let $s_w(n)$ denote the number of occurrence of $w$ in the binary expansion of $n$ as a scattered subsequence. We study the behavior of the partial sum $\sum_{n=0}^N(-1)^{s_w(n)}$ and characterize several classes of words $w$ satisfying $\sum_{n=0}^N(-1)^{s_w(n)}= O(N^{1-\epsilon})$ for some $\epsilon >0$.

Given any positive integer $r$, Nahm's problem is to determine all rational $r\times r$ positive definite matrix $A$, $r$-dimensional rational vector $B$ and rational scalar $C$ such that the rank $r$ Nahm sum associated with $(A,B,C)$ is modular. Around 2007, Zagier conjectured that if the rank $r$ Nahm sum for $(A,B,C)$ is modular, then so is the dual Nahm sum associated with $(A^{-1},A^{-1}B,B^\mathrm{T} A^{-1}B/2-{r}/{24}-C)$. We construct some explicit rank four Nahm sums wherein the original Nahm sum is modular while its dual is not modular. This provides counterexamples to Zagier's conjecture., Comment: First version

Let $k\in \mathbb Z_+$ and $(X, \mathcal B(X), \mu)$ be a probability space equipped with a family of commuting invertible measure-preserving transformations $T_1,\ldots, T_k \colon X\to X$. Let $P_1,\ldots, P_k\in\mathbb Z[\rm n]$ be polynomials with integer coefficients and distinct degrees. We establish pointwise almost everywhere convergence of the multilinear polynomial ergodic averages \[A_{N; X, T_1,\ldots, T_k}^{P_1,\ldots, P_k}(f_1,\ldots, f_k)(x) = \frac{1}{N}\sum_{n=1}^Nf_1\big(T_1^{P_1(n)}x\big)\cdots f_k\big(T_k^{P_k(n)}x\big), \qquad x\in X, \] as $N\to\infty$ for any functions $f_1, \ldots, f_k\in L^{\infty}(X)$. Besides a couple of results in the bilinear setting (when $k=2$ and then only for single transformations), this is the first pointwise result for general polynomial multilinear ergodic averages in arbitrary measure-preserving systems. This answers a question of Bergelson from 1996 in the affirmative for any polynomials with distinct degrees, and makes progress on the Furstenberg-Bergelson-Leibman conjecture. In this paper, we build a versatile multilinear circle method by developing the Ionescu-Wainger multiplier theory for the set of canonical fractions, which gives a positive answer to a question of Ionescu and Wainger from 2005. We also establish sharp multilinear $L^p$-improving bounds and an inverse theorem in higher order Fourier analysis for averages over polynomial corner configurations, which we use to establish a multilinear analogue of Weyl's inequality and its real counterpart, a Sobolev smoothing inequality., Comment: 97 pages, no figures. We classify translatively exponential and GL(2,Z) covariant valuations on lattice polygons valued at measurable real functions. A typical example of such valuations is induced by the Laplace transform, but as it turns out there are many more. The argument uses the ergodicity of the linear action of SL(2,Z) on R2, and some elementary properties of the Fibonacci numbers.

The large sieve is used to estimate the density of integral quadratic polynomials $Q$, such that there exists an odd degree integral polynomial which has resultant $\pm 1$ with $Q$. The proof uses properties of cyclotomic polynomials and the Chebotarev density theorem. Given a monic integral polynomial $R$ of odd degree, this is used to show that for almost all integral quadratic polynomials $Q$, there exists a prime $p$ such that $Q$ and $R$ share a common root in the algebraic closure of the finite field with $p$ elements. Using recent work of Landesman, an application to the average size of the $n$-torsion of the class group of quadratic number fields is also given., Comment: 20 pages

We give a new proof of the existence of Whittaker functionals for principal series representation of $\text{GL}(n,\mathbb{R})$, utilizing the analytic theory of distributions. We realize Whittaker functionals as equivariant distributions on $\text{GL}(n,\mathbb{R})$, whose restriction to the open Schubert cell is unique up to a constant. Using a birational map on the Schubert cells, we show that the unique distribution on the open Schubert cell extends to a distribution on the entire space $\text{GL}(n,\mathbb{R})$. For a natural number n, let M(n) denote the maximum exponent of any prime power dividing n, and let m(n) denote the minimum exponent of any prime power dividing n. We study the second moments of these arithmetic functions and establish their limiting distributions. In this paper, we establish the existence of positive density collection of $d\in\mathbb{N}$ such that class numbers of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d}), \ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d+1})\dots\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d+n})$ are not divisible by $3^k$ for $n=3^{k+1}-5$ for any $k\in\mathbb{N}$. This result constitutes the indivisibility counterpart of Iizuka's conjecture. For the same choice of $n$, we prove the existence of positive density collection of $d$, in the set of negative integers, such that the class numbers of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d}), \ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d+1}),\dots,\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d+n})$ are not divisible by $3^{k+1}$. Further, we write the set of all square-free natural numbers as an increasing sequence $(d_n)$ and prove the existence of positive density collection of $i$ in the set of natural numbers such that the class numbers of the number fields $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d_i}), \ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d_{i+1}}),\ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d_{i+2}}),$ $ \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d_{i+3}}),\dots, \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{d_{i+n}})$ are not divisible by $3^k$ for $n=3^{k+1}-5$. For higher degree, we show that certain limit of the collection of imaginary bi-quadratic fields whose class number is not divisible by $3$ over all the imaginary biquadratic fields is positive.

There are three kinds of multiple polylogarithms; complex, finite and symmetric. The dualities for the complex and finite cases are known. In this paper, we present proofs of them via iterated integrals and its symmetric counterpart by a similar method.

We define a theta lift between the homology in degree $N-1$ of a locally symmetric space associated to $\mathrm{SL}_N(\mathbb{R})$ and the space of modular forms of weight $N$. We show that the Fourier coefficients of this lift are Poincar\'e duals to modular symbols associated to maximal parabolic subgroups. The constant term is a canonical cohomology classes obtained by transgressing the Euler class of a torus bundle. This Eisenstein lift realizes a geometric theta correspondence for the pair $\mathrm{SL}_N \times \mathrm{SL}_2$, in the spirit of Kudla-Millson. When $N=2$, we show that the lift surjects on the space of weight $2$ modular forms spanned by an Eisenstein series and the eigenforms with non-vanishing $L$-function.

We arrange the orders in an algebraic number field in a tree. This tree can be used to enumerate all orders of bounded index in the maximal order as well as the orders over some given order.

The shuffle product on positive integer points, which corresponds to the shuffle algebra for multiple zeta values, is extended uniquely to all integer points, by making the linear operator which decreases the first entry by one a differential operator. We then show that all convergent integer points form a subalgebra under this extended shuffle product. By lifting the extended shuffle product to the locality algebra of Chen symbols, we prove that the multiple zeta series defines an algebra homomorphism from the subalgebra of convergent points to real numbers, which shows that the extended shuffle product is a structure for convergent integer points.

We introduce and study arithmetic polygons. We show that these arithmetic polygons are connected to triples of square pyramidal numbers. For every odd $N\geq3$, we prove that there is at least one arithmetic polygon with $N$ sides. Motivated by the approximate functional equation, consider the approximation $\zeta_N(s) = \sum_{n=1}^N n^{-s} + \chi(s) \sum_{n=1}^N n^{1-s}$ of the Riemann zeta function. It has been previously shown that $\zeta_N(s)$ has 100\% of its zeros lie on the critical line, and that $a$-values of $\zeta_N(s)$ cluster arbitrarily close to the critical line. In this paper, we show that, despite the above, 0\% of a-values actually lie on the critical line itself. We also extend our results to a wider class of $L$-functions.

In this paper, we study the sum of the divisor function over sets with digit restrictions. As a corollary, we prove a non-trivial bound for the version over short intervals of length $X^{3/4+\varepsilon}.$, Comment: 7 pages

For an atomic domain $D$, the $elasticity$ $\rho(D)$ of $D$ is defined as $\sup\{r/s: \pi_1\cdots \pi_r = \rho_1 \cdots \rho_s,~ \text{where each $\pi_i, \rho_j$ is irreducible}\}$; the elasticity provides a concrete measure of the failure of unique factorization in $D$. Fix a quadratic number field $K$ with discriminant $\Delta_K$, and for each positive integer $f$, let $\mathcal{O}_f = \mathbb{Z} + f\mathcal{O}_K$ denote the order of conductor $f$ in $K$. Results of Halter-Koch imply that $\mathcal{O}_f$ has finite elasticity precisely when $f$ is $\textit{split-free}$, meaning not divisible by any rational prime $p$ with $(\Delta_K/p)=1$. When $K$ is imaginary, we show that for almost all split-free $f$, \[ \rho(\mathcal{O}_f) = f/(\log{f})^{\frac{1}{2}\log\log\log{f} + \frac{1}{2}C_K+o(1)}, \] for a constant $C_K$ depending on $K$. When $K$ is real, we prove under the assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis that \[ \rho(\mathcal{O}_f)= (\log{f})^{\frac12 +o(1)} \] for almost all split-free $f$. Underlying these estimates are new statistical theorems about class groups of orders in quadratic fields, whose proofs borrow ideas from investigations of Erd\H{o}s, Hooley, Li, Pomerance, Schmutz, and others into the multiplicative groups $(\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z})^\times$. We show that if $n\ge n_0$, $b\ge 2$ are integers, $p\ge 7$ is prime and $n!-(b^p-1)/(b-1)\ge 0$, then $n!-(b^p-1)/(b-1) \ge 0.5\log\log n/\log\log\log n$. Further results are obtained, in particular for the case $n!-(b^p-1)/(b-1) < 0$.

We give a probabilistic interpretation of the Dedekind zeta functions of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-1})$ and $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-2})$ using zeta integrals and use this to show that the first two Li coefficients of these zeta functions are positive. This extends a result of Biane, Pitman, and Yor (2001) which considered the case of the Riemann zeta function., Comment: 9 pages

Let $F$ be any field containing the finite field of order $q$. A $q$-polynomial $L$ over $F$ is an element of the polynomial ring $F[x]$ with the property that all powers of $x$ that appear in $L$ with nonzero coefficient have exponent a power of $q$. It is well known that given any ordinary polynomial $f$ in $F[x]$, there exists a $q$-polynomial that is divisible by $f$. We study the smallest degree of such a $q$-polynomial. This is equivalent to studying the $\mathbb{F}_q$-span of the roots of $f$ in a splitting field. We relate this quantity to the representation theory of the Galois group of $f$. As an application we give a simultaneous construction of the binary Golay code of length 24, and the Steiner system on 24 points.

Let $s(n)$ denote the number of ones in the binary expansion of the nonnegative integer $n$. How does $s$ behave under addition of a constant $t$? In order to study the differences \[s(n+t)-s(n),\] for all $n\ge0$, we consider the associated characteristic function $\gamma_t$. Our main theorem is a structural result on the decomposition of $\gamma_t$ into a sum of \emph{components}. We also study in detail the case that $t$ contains at most two blocks of consecutive $1$s. The results in this paper are motivated by \emph{Cusick's conjecture} on the sum-of-digits function. This conjecture is concerned with the \emph{central tendency} of the corresponding probability distributions, and is still unsolved., Comment: 31 pages

We prove that no eigenvalue of the clamped disk has multiplicity greater than four. This improves upon a previous bound. Exploiting a linear recursion formula of order two for cross-product Bessel functions in which the coefficients are non-rational functions satisfying a non-linear algebraic recursion, we show that higher multiplicity eigenvalues must be algebraic, in contradiction with the Siegel-Shidlovskii theory., Comment: 7 pages

Let $\mathsf{E}/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve. By the modularity theorem, it admits a surjection from a modular curve $X_0(N) \to \mathsf{E}$, and the minimal degree among such maps is called the modular degree of $\mathsf{E}$. By the Mordell--Weil Theorem, $\mathsf{E}(\mathbb{Q})\simeq \mathbb{Z}^r \oplus T$ for some nonnegative integer $r$ and some finite group $T$. Watkins's Conjecture predicts that $2^r$ divides the modular degree, thus suggesting an intriguing link between these geometrically- and algebraically-defined invariants. We offer some new cases of Watkins's Conjecture, specifically for elliptic curves with additive reduction at $2$, good reduction outside of at most two odd primes, and a rational point of order two., Comment: comments welcome

The main question of this paper is the following: how much cancellation can the partial sums restricted to the $k$-free integers up to $x$ of a $\pm 1$ multiplicative function $f$ be in terms of $x$? Building upon the recent paper by Q. Liu, Acta Math. Sin. (Engl. Ser.) 39 (2023), no. 12, 2316-2328, we prove that under the Riemann Hypothesis for quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions, we can get $x^{1/(k+1)}$ cancellation when $f$ is a modified quadratic Dirichlet character, i.e., $f$ is completely multiplicative and for some quadratic Dirichlet character $\chi$, $f(p)=\chi(p)$ for all but a finite subset of prime numbers. This improves the conditional results by Aymone, Medeiros and the author cf. Ramanujan J. 59 (2022), no. 3, 713-728.

The modularity of an elliptic curve $E/\mathbb Q$ can be expressed either as an analytic statement that the $L$-function is the Mellin transform of a modular form, or as a geometric statement that $E$ is a quotient of a modular curve $X_0(N)$. For elliptic curves over number fields these notions diverge; a conjecture of Hamahata asserts that for every elliptic curve $E$ over a totally real number field there is a correspondence between a Hilbert modular variety and the product of the conjugates of $E$. In this paper we prove the conjecture by explicit computation for many cases where $E$ is defined over a real quadratic field and the geometric genus of the Hilbert modular variety is $1$., Comment: 37 pages

Let $X$ be a connected normal scheme of finite type over $\mathbf{Z}$, let $G$ be a connected reductive group over $\mathbf{Q}$, and let $\{\rho_\ell\colon\pi_1(X[1/\ell])\to G(\mathbf{Q}_\ell)\}_\ell$ be a Frobenius-compatible collection of continuous homomorphisms indexed by the primes. Assume $\mathrm{Img}(\rho_\ell)$ is Zariski-dense in $G_{\mathbf{Q}_\ell}$ for all $\ell$ in a nonempty finite set $\mathcal{R}$. We prove that, under certain hypotheses on $\mathcal{R}$ (depending only on $G$), $\mathrm{Img}(\rho_\ell)$ is Zariski-dense in $G_{\mathbf{Q}_\ell}$ for all $\ell$ in a set of Dirichlet density $1$. As an application, we combine this result with a version of Hilbert's irreducibility theorem and recent work of Klevdal--Patrikis to obtain new information about the "canonical" local systems attached to Shimura varieties not of Abelian type., Comment: 18 pages. comments welcome!

We prove the equidistribution of some cycles of S-arithmetic nature that are related to RM points and Stark-Heegner points. We also prove the equidistribution of Picard orbits of ATR cycles as defined by Darmon, Rotger and Zhao.

Let $SPP(n)$ be the set $\{\big(|A+A|,|A\cdot A|\big) : A\subseteq {\mathbb N}, |A|=n \}$, where $A+A$ is the sumset $\{a+b : a,b\in A\}$ and $AA$ is the product set $\{ab : a,b\in A\}$. We prove the value of $SPP(n)$ exactly for $n\le 6$, and compute a large subset of $SPP(n)$ for $n\le 32$. This is a dataset of 1,158,717 sets of positive integers that are addtiively and multiplicatively diverse. We do {\bf not} see evidence in favor of Erd\H{o}s's Sum-Product Conjecture in our dataset. In a recent preprint, we constructed a sesquiharmonic Maass form $\mathcal{G}$ of weight $\frac{1}{2}$ and level $4N$ with $N$ odd and squarefree. Extending seminal work by Duke, Imamo\={g}lu, and T\'{o}th, $\mathcal{G}$ maps to Zagier's non-holomorphic Eisenstein series and a linear combination of Pei and Wang's generalized Cohen--Eisenstein series under the Bruinier--Funke operator $\xi_{\frac{1}{2}}$. In this paper, we realize $\mathcal{G}$ as the output of a regularized Siegel theta lift of $1$ whenever $N=p$ is an odd prime building on more general work by Bruinier, Funke and Imamo\={g}lu. In addition, we supply the computation of the square-indexed Fourier coefficients of $\mathcal{G}$. This yields explicit identities between the Fourier coefficients of $\mathcal{G}$ and all quadratic traces of $1$. The Khintchine-Groshev theorem in Diophantine approximation theory says that there is a dichotomy of the Lebesgue measure of sets of $\psi$-approximable numbers, given a monotonic function $\psi$. Allen and Ram\'irez removed the monotonicity condition from the inhomogeneous Khintchine-Groshev theorem for cases with $nm\geq3$ and conjectured that it also holds for $nm=2$. In this paper, we prove this conjecture in the case of $(n,m)=(2,1)$. We also prove it for the case of $(n,m)=(1,2)$ with a rational inhomogeneous parameter., Comment: 16 pages

Let $X$ be a variety over a finite field. Given an order $R$ in a semi-simple algebra over the rationals and a constructible \'etale sheaf $F$ of $R$-modules over $X$, one can consider a natural non-commutative $L$-function associated with $F$. We prove a special value formula at negative integers for this $L$-function, expressed in terms of Weil-\'etale cohomology; this is a geometric analogue of, and implies, the equivariant Tamagawa number conjecture for an Artin motive and its negative twists over a global function field. It also generalizes the results of Lichtenbaum and Geisser on special values at negative integers for zeta functions of varieties, and the work of Burns--Kakde in the case of non-commutative L-functions coming from a Galois cover of varieties., Comment: 36 pages, comments welcome !

Let $p$ be a prime and let $\mathbb{Q}_p$ be the field of $p$-adic numbers. It is known that the finite extensions of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ of a given degree are finite up to isomorphism. Given a cubic field extension $L$ of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ generated by the root of an irreducible polynomial $h$, we present a practical (closed-form) method to determine the isomorphism class in which $L$ lives, based on the coefficients of $h$. We discuss the subtleties of the wildly ramified case, when the degree of the extension coincides with $p$, the characteristic of the residue field. We prove that the transitive permutation group 17T7, isomorphic to a split extension of $C_2$ by $\mathrm{PSL}_2(\mathbb{F}_{16})$, is a Galois group over the rationals. The group arises from the field of definition of the 2-torsion on an abelian fourfold with real multiplication defined over a real quadratic field. We find such fourfolds using Hilbert modular forms. Finally, building upon work of Demb\'el\'e, we show how to conjecturally reconstruct a period matrix for an abelian variety attached to a Hilbert modular form; we then use this to exhibit an explicit degree 17 polynomial with Galois group 17T7., Comment: 23 pages, comments welcome

In this paper we create a definition for prime gaps in the Gaussian integers using a boxcar metric. From this we used numerical methods to derive an asymptotic upper bound for the gaps in this scenario, namely O(log^2|p_{n}|).

We give a new interpretation of Stark units associated to real quadratic fields as real multiplication values of a modular cocycle. The cocycle of interest is a meromorphic factor describing the modular transformations of the $q$-Pochhammer symbol and is related to the Shintani--Barnes double sine function and the Faddeev quantum dilogarithm. In this paper, we introduce a new technique to study the distribution in residue classes of sets of integers with digit and sum-of-digits restrictions. From our main theorem, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for integers with missing digits to be uniformly distributed in arithmetic progressions, extending previous results going back to work of Erd\H{o}s, Mauduit and S\'ark\"ozy. Our approach utilizes Markov chains and does not rely on Fourier analysis as many results of this nature do. Our results apply more generally to the class of multiplicatively invariant sets of integers. This class, defined by Glasscock, Moreira and Richter using symbolic dynamics, is an integer analogue to fractal sets and includes all missing digits sets.
