Strong soft X-ray emission called soft X-ray excess is often observed in luminous active galactic nuclei (AGN). It has been suggested that the soft X-rays are emitted from a warm ($T=10^6\sim10^7\ \rm{K}$) region that is optically thick for the Thomson scattering (warm Comptonization region). Motivated by the recent observations that soft X-ray excess appears in changing look AGN (CLAGN) during the state transition from a dim state without broad emission lines to a bright state with broad emission lines, we performed global three-dimensional radiation magnetohydrodynamic simulations assuming that the mass accretion rate increases and becomes around $10$\% of the Eddington accretion rate. The simulation successfully reproduces a warm, Thomson-thick region outside the hot radiatively inefficient accretion flow near the black hole. The warm region is formed by efficient radiative cooling due to inverse Compton scattering. The calculated luminosity $0.01L_{{\rm Edd}}-0.08L_{{\rm Edd}}$ is consistent with the luminosity of CLAGN. We also found that the warm Comptonization region is well described by the steady model of magnetized disks supported by azimuthal magnetic fields. When the anti-parallel azimuthal magnetic fields supporting the radiatively cooled region reconnect around the equatorial plane of the disk, the temperature of the region becomes higher by releasing the magnetic energy transported to the region., Comment: Published in ApJ

We investigate the origin of the soft X-ray excess component in Seyfert galaxies observed when their luminosity exceeds 0.1% of the Eddington luminosity ($L_{\mathrm{Edd}}$). The evolution of a dense blob in radiatively inefficient accretion flow (RIAF) is simulated by applying a radiation magnetohydrodynamic code, CANS+R. When the accretion rate onto a $10^7M_{\odot}$ black hole exceeds 10% of the Eddington accretion rate ($\dot M_{\rm Edd}=L_{\rm Edd}/c^2$, where $c$ is the speed of light)}, the dense blob shrinks vertically because of radiative cooling and forms a Thomson thick, relatively cool ($\sim10^{7-8}$ K) region. The cool region coexists with the optically thin, hot ($T\sim10^{11}~\mathrm{K}$) RIAF near the black hole. The cool disk is responsible for the soft X-ray emission, while hard X-rays are emitted from the hot inner accretion flow. The soft X-ray emitting region coexists with the optically thin, hot ($T \sim 10^{11}~\mathrm{K}$), radiatively inefficient accretion flow (RIAF) near the black hole. Such a hybrid structure of hot and cool accretion flows is consistent with the observations of both hard and soft X-ray emissions from `changing-look' active galactic nuclei (CLAGN). Furthermore, we find that quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) are excited in the soft X-ray emitting region. Based mainly on X-ray observations, studies are made on interactions between the intra-cluster medium (ICM) in clusters of galaxies and their member galaxies. Through (magneto)hydrodynamic and gravitational channels, the moving galaxies are expected to drag the ICM around them, and transfer to the ICM some fraction of their dynamical energies on cosmological time scales. This hypothesis is in line with several observations, including the possible cosmological infall of galaxies towards the cluster center, found over redshifts of z~1 to z~0. Further assuming that the energy lost by the galaxies is first converted into ICM turbulence and then dissipated, this picture can explain the subsonic and uniform ICM turbulence, measured with Hitomi in the core region of the Perseus cluster. The scenario may also explain several other unanswered problems regarding clusters of galaxies, including what prevents the ICM from the expected radiative cooling, how the various mass components in nearby clusters have attained different radial distributions, and how a thermal stability is realized between hot and cool ICM components that co-exist around cD galaxies. We studied roles of the magnetic field on the gas dynamics in the Galactic bulge by a three-dimensional global magnetohydrodynamical simulation data, particularly focusing on vertical flows that are ubiquitously excited by magnetic activity. In local regions where the magnetic filed is stronger, it is frequently seen that fast down-flows slide along inclined magnetic field lines that are associated with buoyantly rising magnetic loops. The vertical velocity of these down-flows reaches ~ 100 km s$^{-1}$ near the foot-point of the loops by the gravitational acceleration toward the Galactic plane. The two footpoints of rising magnetic loops are generally located at different radial locations and the field lines are deformed by the differential rotation. The angular momentum is transported along the field lines, and the radial force balance breaks down. As a result, a fast downflow is often observed only at the one footpoint located at the inner radial position. The fast downflow compresses the gas to form a dense region near the footpoint, which will be important in star formation afterward. Furthermore, the horizontal components of the velocity are also fast near the foot-point because the down-flow is accelerated along the magnetic sliding slope. A possibility of time-delayed radio brightenings of Sgr A* triggered by the pericenter passage of the G2 cloud is studied by carrying out global three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations taking into account the radiative cooling of the tidal debris of the G2 cloud. Magnetic fields in the accretion flow are strongly perturbed and re-organized after the passage of G2. We have found that the magnetic energy in the accretion flow increases by a factor 3-4 in 5-10 years after the pericenter passage of G2 by a dynamo mechanism driven by the magneto-rotational instability. Since this B-field amplification enhances the synchrotron emission from the disk and the outflow, the radio and the infrared luminosity of Sgr A* is expected to increase around A.D. 2020. The formation mechanism of CO clouds observed with NANTEN2 and Mopra telescope toward the stellar cluster Westerlund 2 is studied by three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations taking into account the interstellar cooling. These molecular clouds show a peculiar shape composing of an arc-shaped cloud in one side of a TeV-ray source HESS J1023-575 and a linear distribution of clouds (jet clouds) in another side. We propose that these clouds are formed by the interaction of a jet with interstellar neutral hydrogen (HI) clumps. By studying the dependence of the shape of dense cold clouds formed by shock compression and cooling on the filling factor of HI clumps, we found that the density distribution of HI clumps determines the shape of molecular clouds formed by the jet-cloud interaction; arc-clouds are formed when the filling factor is large. On the other hand, when the filling factor is small, molecular clouds align with the jet. We carried out 2.5-dimensional resistive MHD simulations to study the formation mechanism of molecular loops observed by Fukui et al. (2006) at Galactic central region. Since it is hard to form molecular loops by uplifting dense molecular gas, we study the formation mechanism of molecular gas in rising magnetic arcades. This model is based on the in-situ formation model of solar prominences, in which prominences are formed by cooling instability in helical magnetic flux ropes formed by imposing converging and shearing motion at footpoints of the magnetic arch anchored to the solar surface. We extended this model to Galactic center scale (a few hundreds pc). Numerical results indicate that magnetic reconnection taking place in the current sheet formed inside the rising magnetic arcade creates dense blobs confined by the rising helical magnetic flux ropes. Thermal instability taking place in the flux ropes forms dense molecular filaments floating at high Galactic latitude. The mass of the filament increases with time, and can exceed 10^5 solar mass.

We present a new magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulation code with the aim of providing accurate numerical solutions to astrophysical phenomena where discontinuities, shock waves, and turbulence are inherently important. The code implements the HLLD approximate Riemann solver, the fifth-order-monotonicity-preserving interpolation (MP5) scheme, and the hyperbolic divergence cleaning method for a magnetic field. This choice of schemes significantly improved numerical accuracy and stability, and saved computational costs in multidimensional problems. Numerical tests of one- and two-dimensional problems showed the advantages of using the high-order scheme by comparing with results from a standard second-order TVD MUSCL scheme. The present code enabled us to explore long-term evolution of a three-dimensional accretion disk around a black hole, in which compressible MHD turbulence caused continuous mass accretion via nonlinear growth of the magneto-rotational instability (MRI). Numerical tests with various computational cell sizes exhibited a convergent picture of the early nonlinear growth of the MRI in a global model, and indicated that the MP5 scheme has more than twice the resolution of the MUSCL scheme in practical applications., Comment: 45 pages, 18 figures, published in Publ. The vertical flow structure in the galactic center region remains poorly understood. We analyzed the MHD simulation data by Suzuki et al. (2015) for better understanding. As a result, we found the fast downflows with a speed of ~100 km/s near the foot-points of magnetic loops. These downflows are flowing along a magnetic field line and accelerated by the gravity. The direction of the fast flows is changed by the magnetic loop geometry, as it moves. As a result, not only vertical motions but also azimuthal and radial motions are excited. By performing a global magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulation for the Milky Way with an axisymmetric gravitational potential, we propose that spatially dependent amplification of magnetic fields possibly explains the observed noncircular motion of the gas in the Galactic centre (GC) region. The radial distribution of the rotation frequency in the bulge region is not monotonic in general. The amplification of the magnetic field is enhanced in regions with stronger differential rotation, because magnetorotational instability and field-line stretching are more effective. The strength of the amplified magnetic field reaches >~ 0.5 mG, and radial flows of the gas are excited by the inhomogeneous transport of angular momentum through turbulent magnetic field that is amplified in a spatially dependent manner. As a result, the simulated position-velocity diagram exhibits a time-dependent asymmetric parallelogram-shape owing to the intermittency of the magnetic turbulence; the present model provides a viable alternative to the bar-potential-driven model for the parallelogram shape of the central molecular zone. In addition, Parker instability (magnetic buoyancy) creates vertical magnetic structure, which would correspond to observed molecular loops, and frequently excited vertical flows. The tidal disruption event by a supermassive black hole in Swift J1644+57 can trigger limit-cycle oscillations between a supercritically accreting X-ray bright state and a subcritically accreting X-ray dim state. Time evolution of the debris gas around a black hole with mass $M=10^{6} {\MO}$ is studied by performing axisymmetric, two-dimensional radiation hydrodynamic simulations. We assumed the $\alpha$-prescription of viscosity, in which the viscous stress is proportional to the total pressure. The mass supply rate from the outer boundary is assumed to be ${\dot M}_{\rm supply}=100L_{\rm Edd}/c^2$, where $L_{\rm Edd}$ is the Eddington luminosity, and $c$ is the light speed. Since the mass accretion rate decreases inward by outflows driven by radiation pressure, the state transition from a supercritically accreting slim disk state to a subcritically accreting Shakura-Sunyaev disk starts from the inner disk and propagates outward in a timescale of a day. The sudden drop of the X-ray flux observed in Swift J1644+57 in August 2012 can be explained by this transition. As long as ${\dot M}_{\rm supply}$ exceeds the threshold for the existence of a radiation pressure dominant disk, accumulation of the accreting gas in the subcritically accreting region triggers the transition from a gas pressure dominant Shakura-Sunyaev disk to a slim disk. This transition takes place at $t {\sim}~50/({\alpha}/0.1)$ days after the X-ray darkening. We carried out global three-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic simulations of dynamo activities in galactic gaseous disks without assuming equatorial symmetry. Numerical results indicate the growth of azimuthal magnetic fields non-symmetric to the equatorial plane. As magneto-rotational instability (MRI) grows, the mean strength of magnetic fields is amplified until the magnetic pressure becomes as large as 10% of the gas pressure. When the local plasma $\beta$ ($ = p_{\rm gas}/p_{\rm mag}$) becomes less than 5 near the disk surface, magnetic flux escapes from the disk by Parker instability within one rotation period of the disk. The buoyant escape of coherent magnetic fields drives dynamo activities by generating disk magnetic fields with opposite polarity to satisfy the magnetic flux conservation. The flotation of the azimuthal magnetic flux from the disk and the subsequent amplification of disk magnetic field by MRI drive quasi-periodic reversal of azimuthal magnetic fields in timescale of 10 rotation period. Since the rotation speed decreases with radius, the interval between the reversal of azimuthal magnetic fields increases with radius. We present global solutions of optically thin, two-temperature black hole accretion disks incorporating magnetic fields. We assume that the {\pi}{\phi}-component of the Maxwell stress is proportional to the total pressure, and prescribe the radial dependence of the magnetic flux advection rate in order to complete the set of basic equations. We obtained magnetically supported (low-{\beta}) disk solutions, whose luminosity exceeds the maximum luminosity for an advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF), L > 0.4 {\alpha}^2 L_Edd, where L_Edd is the Eddington luminosity. The accretion flow is composed of the outer ADAF, a luminous hot accretion flow (LHAF) inside the transition layer from the outer ADAF to the low-{\beta} disk, the low-{\beta} disk, and the inner ADAF. The low-{\beta} disk region becomes wider as the mass-accretion rate increases further. In the low-{\beta} disk, the magnetic heating balances the radiative cooling, and the electron temperature decreases from ~ 10^9.5 K to ~ 10^8 K as the luminosity increases. These results are consistent with the anti-correlation between the energy cutoff in X-ray spectra (hence the electron temperature) and the luminosity when L > 0.1 L_Edd, observed in the bright/hard state during the bright hard-to-soft transitions of transient outbursts in galactic black hole candidates., Comment: 27 pages, 15 figures, accepted for Publications of Astronomical Society of Japan

We obtained self-similar solutions of relativistically expanding magnetic loops by assuming axisymmetry and a purely radial flow. The stellar rotation and the magnetic fields in the ambient plasma are neglected. We include the Newtonian gravity of the central star. These solutions are extended from those in our previous work (Takahashi, Asano, & Matsumoto 2009) by taking into account discontinuities such as the contact discontinuity and the shock. The global plasma flow consists of three regions, the outflowing region, the post shocked region, and the ambient plasma. They are divided by two discontinuities. The solutions are characterized by the radial velocity, which plays a role of the self-similar parameter in our solutions. The shock Lorentz factor gradually increases with radius. It can be approximately represented by the power of radius with the power law index of 0.25. We also carried out magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the evolution of magnetic loops to study the stability and the generality of our analytical solutions. We used the analytical solutions as the initial condition and the inner boundary conditions. We confirmed that our solutions are stable over the simulation time and that numerical results nicely recover the analytical solutions. We then carried out numerical simulations to study the generality of our solutions by changing the power law index \delta of the ambient plasma density \rho_0 \propto r^{-\delta}. We alter the power law index \delta from 3.5 in the analytical solutions. The analytical solutions are used as the initial conditions inside the shock in all simulations. We observed that the shock Lorentz factor increases with time when \delta is larger than 3, while it decreases with time when \delta is smaller than 3. The shock Lorentz factor is proportional to t^{(\delta-3)/2}. We have carried out 12CO(J =2-1) and 12CO(J =3-2) observations at spatial resolutions of 1.0-3.8 pc toward the entirety of loops 1 and 2 and part of loop 3 in the Galactic center with NANTEN2 and ASTE. These new results revealed detailed distributions of the molecular gas and the line intensity ratio of the two transitions, R3-2/2-1. In the three loops, R3-2/2-1 is in a range from 0.1 to 2.5 with a peak at ~ 0.7 while that in the disk molecular gas is in a range from 0.1 to 1.2 with a peak at 0.4. This supports that the loops are more highly excited than the disk molecular gas. An LVG analysis of three transitions, 12CO J =3-2 and 2-1 and 13CO J =2-1, toward six positions in loops 1 and 2 shows density and temperature are in a range 102.2 - 104.7 cm-3 and 15-100 K or higher, respectively. Three regions extended by 50-100 pc in the loops tend to have higher excitation conditions as characterized by R3-2/2-1 greater than 1.2. The highest ratio of 2.5 is found in the most developed foot points between loops 1 and 2. This is interpreted that the foot points indicate strongly shocked conditions as inferred from their large linewidths of 50-100 km s-1, confirming the suggestion by Torii et al. (2010b). The other two regions outside the foot points suggest that the molecular gas is heated up by some additional heating mechanisms possibly including magnetic reconnection. A detailed analysis of four foot points have shown a U shape, an L shape or a mirrored-L shape in the b-v distribution. We obtained thermal equilibrium solutions for optically thin, two-temperature black hole accretion disks incorporating magnetic fields. The main objective of this study is to explain the bright/hard state observed during the bright/slow transition of galactic black hole candidates. We assume that the energy transfer from ions to electrons occurs via Coulomb collisions. Bremsstrahlung, synchrotron, and inverse Compton scattering are considered as the radiative cooling processes. In order to complete the set of basic equations, we specify the magnetic flux advection rate. We find magnetically supported (low-beta), thermally stable solutions. In these solutions, the total amount of the heating via the dissipation of turbulent magnetic fields goes into electrons and balances the radiative cooling. The low-$\beta$ solutions extend to high mass accretion rates and the electron temperature is moderately cool. High luminosities and moderately high energy cutoffs in the X-ray spectrum observed in the bright/hard state can be explained by the low-beta solutions., Comment: 24 pages, 10 figures,accepted for publication in Astrophysical Journal

Fukui et al. (2006) discovered two molecular loops in the Galactic center and argued that the foot points of the molecular loops, two bright spots at both loops ends, represent the gas accumulated by the falling motion along the loops, subsequent to magnetic flotation by the Parker instability. We have carried out sensitive CO observations of the foot points toward l=356 deg at a few pc resolution in the six rotational transitions of CO; 12CO(J=1-0, 3-2, 4-3, 7-6), 13CO(J=1-0) and C18O(J=1-0). The high resolution image of 12CO (J=3-2) has revealed the detailed distribution of the high excitation gas including U shapes, the outer boundary of which shows sharp intensity jumps accompanying strong velocity gradients. An analysis of the multi-J CO transitions shows that the temperature is in a range from 30-100 K and density is around 10^3-10^4 cm^-3, confirming that the foot points have high temperature and density although there is no prominent radiative heating source such as high mass stars in or around the loops. We argue that the high temperature is likely due to the shock heating under C-shock condition caused by the magnetic flotation. We made a comparison of the gas distribution with theoretical numerical simulations and note that the U shape is consistent with numerical simulations. We also find that the region of highest temperature of ~100 K or higher inside the U shape corresponds to the spur having an upward flow, additionally heated up either by magnetic reconnection or bouncing in the interaction with the narrow neck at the bottom of the U shape. Fukui et al. (2006) discovered two huge molecular loops in the Galactic center located in (l, b) ~ (355 deg-359 deg, 0 deg-2 deg) in a large velocity range of -180-40 km s^-1. Following the discovery, we present detailed observational properties of the two loops based on NANTEN 12CO(J=1-0) and 13CO(J=1-0) datasets at 10 pc resolution including a complete set of velocity channel distributions and comparisons with HI and dust emissions as well as with the other broad molecular features. We find new features on smaller scales in the loops including helical distributions in the loop tops and vertical spurs. The loops have counterparts of the HI gas indicating that the loops include atomic gas. The IRAS far infrared emission is also associated with the loops and was used to derive an X-factor of 0.7(+/-0.1){\times}10^20 cm^-2 (K km s^-1)^-1 to convert the 12CO intensity into the total molecular hydrogen column density. From the 12CO, 13CO, H I and dust datasets we estimated the total mass of loops 1 and 2 to be ~1.4 {\times} 106 Msun and ~1.9 {\times} 10^6 Msun, respectively, where the H I mass corresponds to ~10-20% of the total mass and the total kinetic energy of the two loops to be ~10^52 ergs. An analysis of the kinematics of the loops yields that the loops are rotating at ~47 km s-1 and expanding at ~141 km s^-1 at a radius of 670 pc from the center. Fukui et al. (2006) presented a model that the loops are created by the magnetic flotation due to the Parker instability with an estimated magnetic field strength of ~150 {\mu}G. We present comparisons with the recent numerical simulations of the magnetized nuclear disk by Machida et al. (2009) and Takahashi et al. (2009) and show that the theoretical results are in good agreements with the observations. We have discovered a molecular dome-like feature towards $355^{\circ} \leq l \leq 359^{\circ}$ and $0^{\circ} \leq b \leq 2^{\circ}$. The large velocity dispersions of 50--100 km s$^{-1}$ of this feature are much larger than those in the Galactic disk and indicate that the feature is located in the Galactic center, probably within $\sim1$ kpc of Sgr A$^{*}$. The distribution has a projected length of $\sim600$ pc and height of $\sim300$ pc from the Galactic disk and shows a large-scale monotonic velocity gradient of $\sim130$ km s $^{-1}$ per $\sim600$ pc. The feature is also associated with HI gas having a more continuous spatial and velocity distribution than that of $^{12}$CO. We interpret the feature as a magnetically floated loop similar to loops 1 and 2 and name it "loop 3". Loop 3 is similar to loops 1 and 2 in its height and length but is different from loops 1 and 2 in that the inner part of loop 3 is filled with molecular emission. We have identified two foot points at the both ends of loop 3. HI, $^{12}$CO and $^{13}$CO datasets were used to estimate the total mass and kinetic energy of loop 3 to be $\sim3.0 \times 10^{6} \Mo$ and $\sim1.7 \times 10^{52}$ ergs. The huge size, velocity dispersions and energy are consistent with the magnetic origin the Parker instability as in case of loops 1 and 2 but is difficult to be explained by multiple stellar explosions. We argue that loop 3 is in an earlier evolutionary phase than loops 1 and 2 based on the inner-filled morphology and the relative weakness of the foot points. This discovery indicates that the western part of the nuclear gas disk of $\sim1$ kpc radius is dominated by the three well-developed magnetically floated loops and suggests that the dynamics of the nuclear gas disk is strongly affected by the magnetic instabilities., Comment: 30 pages, 10 figures. We carried out two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the Galactic gas disk to show that the dense loop-like structures discovered by the Galactic center molecular cloud survey by NANTEN 4 m telescope can be formed by the buoyant rise of magnetic loops due to the Parker instability. At the initial state, we assumed a gravitationally stratified disk consisting of the cool layer ($T \sim 10^3$ K), warm layer ($T \sim 10^4$ K), and hot layer ($T \sim 10^5$ K). Simulation box is a local part of the disk containing the equatorial plane. The gravitational field is approximated by that of a point mass at the galactic center. The self-gravity, and the effects of the galactic rotation are ignored. Numerical results indicate that the length of the magnetic loops emerging from the disk is determined by the scale height of the hot layer ($\sim$ 100 pc at 1 kpc from the Galactic center). The loop length, velocity gradient along the loops and large velocity dispersions at their foot points are consistent with the NANTEN observations. We also show that the loops become top-heavy when the curvature of the loop is sufficiently small, so that the rising loop accumulates the overlying gas faster than sliding it down along the loop. This mechanism is similar to that of the formation of solar chromospheric arch filaments. The molecular loops emerge from the low temperature layer just like the dark filaments observed in the H$\alpha$ image of the emerging flux region of the sun., Comment: 23 pages, 13 figures. Supercritical accretion flows inevitably produce radiation-pressure driven outflows, which will Compton up-scatter soft photons from the underlying accretion flow, thereby making hard emission. We perform two dimensional radiation hydrodynamic simulations of supercritical accretion flows and outflows, incorporating such Compton scattering effects, and demonstrate that there appears a new hard spectral state at higher photon luminosities than that of the slim-disk state. In this state, as the photon luminosity increases, the photon index decreases and the fraction of the hard emission increases. The Compton $y$-parameter is of the order of unity (and thus the photon index will be $\sim 2$) when the apparent photon luminosity is ${\sim}30L_{\rm E}$ (with $L_{\rm E}$ being the Eddington luminosity) for nearly face-on sources. This explains the observed spectral hardening of the ULX NGC1313 X-2 in its brightening phase and thus supports the model of supercritical accretion onto stellar mass black holes in this ULX., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ

A survey for the molecular clouds in the Galaxy with NANTEN mm telescope has discovered molecular loops in the Galactic center region. The loops show monotonic gradients of the line of sight velocity along the loops and the large velocity dispersions towards their foot points. It is suggested that these loops are explained in terms of the buoyant rise of magnetic loops due to the Parker instability. We have carried out global three-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic simulations of the gas disk in the Galactic center. The gravitational potential is approximated by the axisymmetric potential proposed by Miyamoto & Nagai (1975). At the initial state, we assume a warm (~ 10^4 K) gas torus threaded by azimuthal magnetic fields. Self-gravity and radiative cooling of the gas are ignored. We found that buoyantly rising magnetic loops are formed above the differentially rotating, magnetically turbulent disk. By analyzing the results of global MHD simulations, we have identified individual loops, about 180 in the upper half of the disk, and studied their statistical properties such as their length, width, height, and velocity distributions along the loops. Typical length and height of a loop are 1kpc and 200pc, respectively. The line of sight velocity changes linearly along a loop and shows large dispersions around the foot-points. Numerical results indicate that loops emerge preferentially from the region where magnetic pressure is large. We obtained self-similar solutions of relativistically expanding magnetic loops taking into account the azimuthal magnetic fields. We neglect stellar rotation and assume axisymmetry and a purely radial flow. As the magnetic loops expand, the initial dipole magnetic field is stretched into the radial direction. When the expansion speed approaches the light speed, the displacement current reduces the toroidal current and modifies the distribution of the plasma lifted up from the central star. Since these self-similar solutions describe the free expansion of the magnetic loops, i.e., $Dv/Dt=0$, the equations of motion are similar to those of the static relativistic magnetohydrodynamics. This allows us to estimate the total energy stored in the magnetic loops by applying the virial theorem. We present the results of global three dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic simulations of black hole accretion flows. We focus on the dependence of numerical results on the gas temperature Tout supplied from the outer region. General relativistic effects are taken into account using the pseudo-Newtonian potential. We ignore the radiative cooling of the accreting gas. The initial state is a torus whose density maximum is at 35rs or 50rs from the gravitating center, where rs is the Schwarzschild radius. The torus is initially threaded by a weak azimuthal magnetic field. We found that mass accretion rate and the mass outflow rate strongly depend on the temperature of the initial torus. The ratio of the average Maxwell stress generated by the magneto-rotational instability (MRI) to gas pressure is alpha ~0.05 in the hot torus and alpha ~ 0.01 in the cool torus. In the cool model, a constant angular momentum inner torus is formed around 4-8rs. This inner torus deforms itself from a circle to a crescent quasi-periodically. During this deformation, the mass accretion rate, the magnetic energy and the Maxwell stress increase. As the magnetic energy is released, the inner torus returns to a circular shape and starts the next cycle. Power spectral density (PSD) of the time variation of the mass accretion rate in the cool model has a low frequency peak around 10Hz when we assumed a 10 solar mass black hole. The PSD of the hot model is flat in 1-30Hz. The slope of the PSD in the cool model is steeper than that in the hot model in 30-100Hz. The mass outflow rate in the low temperature model also shows quasi-periodic oscillation. Intermittent outflows are created in both models. Steep gradients of temperature and density, called cold fronts, are observed by Chandra in a leading edge of subclusters moving through the intracluster medium (ICM). The presence of cold fronts indicates that thermal conduction across the front is suppressed by magnetic fields. We carried out three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations including anisotropic thermal conduction of a subcluster moving through a magnetically turbulent ICM. We found that turbulent magnetic fields are stretched and amplified by shear flows along the interface between the subcluster and the ambient ICM. Since magnetic fields reduce the efficiency of thermal conduction across the front, the cold front survives at least 1 Gyr. We also found that a moving subcluster works as an amplifier of magnetic fields. Numerical results indicate that stretched turbulent magnetic fields accumulate behind the subcluster and are further amplified by vortex motions. We carried out global three-dimensional resistive magnetohydrodynamic simulations of galactic gaseous disks to investigate how the galactic magnetic fields are amplified and maintained. We adopt a steady axisymmetric gravitational potential given by \cite*{Miy80}. As the initial condition, we assume a warm ($T\sim10^{5} \mathrm{K}$) rotating gas torus centered at $\varpi=10 \mathrm{kpc}$ threaded by weak azimuthal magnetic fields. Numerical results indicate that in differentially rotating galactic gaseous disks, magnetic fields are amplified due to magneto-rotational instability and magnetic turbulence develops. After the amplification of magnetic energy saturates, the disk stays in a quasi-steady state. The mean azimuthal magnetic field increases with time and shows reversals with period of 1Gyr (2Gyr for a full cycle). The amplitude of $B_{\phi}$ near the equatorial plane is $B_{\phi}\sim1.5\mu \mathrm{G}$ at $\varpi=5 \mathrm{kpc}$. The magnetic fields show large fluctuations whose standard deviation is comparable to the mean field. The mean azimuthal magnetic field in the disk corona has direction opposite to the mean magnetic field inside the disk. The mass accretion rate driven by the Maxwell stress is $\sim10^{-3}M_{\odot}/ \mathrm{yr}$ at $\varpi=2.5 \mathrm{kpc}$ when the mass of the initial torus is $\sim5\times10^{8}M_{\odot}$., Comment: Accepted for ApJ, 43 pages, 22 figures. We carried out three-dimensional global resistive magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of the cooling instability in optically thin hot black hole accretion flows by assuming bremsstrahlung cooling. General relativistic effects are simulated by using the pseudo-Newtonian potential. Cooling instability grows when the density of the accretion disk becomes sufficiently large. We found that as the instability grows the accretion flow changes from an optically thin, hot, gas pressure-supported state (low/hard state) to a cooler, magnetically supported, quasi-steady state. During this transition, magnetic pressure exceeds the gas pressure because the disk shrinks in the vertical direction almost conserving the toroidal magnetic flux. Since further vertical contraction of the disk is suppressed by magnetic pressure, the cool disk stays in an optically thin, spectrally hard state. In the magnetically supported disk, the heating rate balances with the radiative cooling rate. The magnetically supported disk exists for time scale much longer than the thermal time scale and comparable to the accretion time scale. We examined the stability of the magnetically supported disk analytically, assuming that the toroidal magnetic flux is conserved, and found it thermally and secularly stable. Recent high resolution observations by the {\it Chandra} X-ray satellite revealed various substructures in hot X-ray emitting plasmas in cluster of galaxies. For example, {\it Chandra} revealed the existence of sharp discontinuities in the surface brightness at the leading edge of subclusters in merging clusters (e.g., Abell 3667), where the temperature drops sharply across the fronts. These sharp edges are called cold fronts. We present results of three-dimensional (3D) magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the interaction between a dense subcluster plasma and ambient magnetized intracluster medium. Anisotropic heat conduction along magnetic field lines is included. At the initial state, magnetic fields are assumed to be uniform and transverse to the motion of the dense subcluster. Since magnetic fields ahead of the subcluster slip toward the third direction in the 3D case, the strength of magnetic fields in this region can be reduced compared to that in the 2D case. Nevertheless, a cold front can be maintained because the magnetic field lines wrapping around the forehead of the subcluster suppress the heat conduction across them. We study the magnetic interaction between a neutron star and its disk by solving the time-dependent relativistic force-free equations. At the initial state, we assume that the dipole magnetic field of the neutron star connects the neutron star and its equatorial disk, which deeply enters into the magnetosphere of the neutron star. Magnetic fields are assumed to be frozen to the star and the disk. The rotation of the neutron star and the disk is imposed as boundary conditions. We apply Harten-Lax-van Leer (HLL) method to simulate the evolution of the star-disk system. We carry out simulations for (1) a disk inside the corotation radius, in which the disk rotates faster than the star, and (2) a disk outside the corotation radius, in which the neutron star rotates faster than the disk. Numerical results indicate that for both models, the magnetic field lines connecting the disk and the star inflate as they are twisted by the differential rotation between the disk and the star. When the twist angle exceeds pi radian, the magnetic field lines expand with speed close to the light speed. High resolution observations of cluster of galaxies by Chandra have revealed the existence of an X-ray emitting comet-like galaxy C153 in the core of cluster of galaxies A2125. The galaxy C153 moving fast in the cluster core has a distinct X-ray tail on one side, obviously due to ram pressure stripping, since the galaxy C153 crossed the central region of A2125. The X-ray emitting plasma in the tail is substantially cooler than the ambient plasma. We present results of two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the time evolution of a subclump like C153 moving in magnetized intergalactic matter. Anisotropic heat conduction is included. We found that the magnetic fields are essential for the existence of the cool X-ray tail, because in non-magnetized plasma the cooler subclump tail is heated up by isotropic heat conduction from the hot ambient plasma and does not form such a comet-like tail., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. Recent Chandra observations of clusters of galaxies revealed the existence of a sharp ridge in the X-ray surface brightness where the temperature drops across the front. This front is called the cold front. We present the results of two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the time evolution of a dense subcluster plasma moving in a cluster of galaxies. Anisotropic heat conduction along the magnetic field lines is included. In the models without magnetic fields, the numerical results indicate that the heat conduction from the hot ambient plasma heats the cold dense plasma of the subcluster and diffuses out the cold front. When magnetic fields exist in a cluster of galaxies, however, cold fronts can be maintained because the heat conduction across the magnetic field lines is suppressed. We found that, even when the magnetic fields in a cluster of galaxies are disordered, heat conduction across the front is restricted because the magnetic field lines are stretched along the front. We present the results of 2.5-dimensional resistive magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of the magnetic interaction between a weakly magnetized neutron star and its accretion disk. General relativistic effects are simulated by using the pseudo-Newtonian potential. We find that well-collimated jets traveling along the rotation axis of the disk are formed by the following mechanism: (1) The magnetic loops connecting the neutron star and the disk are twisted due to the differential rotation between the neutron star and the disk. (2) Twist injection from the disk initiates expansion of the loop. (3) The expanding magnetic loops create a magnetic tower in which accelerated disk material travel as collimated bipolar jets. The propagation speed of the working surface of the jet is the order of 10% of the speed of light ($\sim 0.1c$). (4) Magnetic reconnection taking place inside the expanding magnetic loops injects hot bubbles intermittently into the magnetic tower. The ejection speed of the bubble is the order of the local Alfv\'{e}n speed of the launching point and $\sim 0.2c$ in our simulations. (5) The hot bubbles moving inside the tower catch up with the working surface of the jet. High energy electrons created by the magnetic reconnection are a plausible source of radio emission. Our model can explain the formation process of a narrow jet from a weakly magnetized ($|{\boldmath$B_{*}$}|\le 10^{9}$ gauss) neutron star and the correlation between radio flares of the core and of the lobe observed in Sco X-1., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, to appear in ApJ, uses emulateapj.cls and apjfonts.sty. We present the results of three-dimensional global resistive magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of black hole accretion flows. General relativistic effects are simulated by using the pseudo-Newtonian potential. Initial state is an equilibrium model of a torus threaded by weak toroidal magnetic fields. As the magnetorotational instability (MRI) grows in the torus, mass accretes to the black hole by losing the angular momentum. We found that in the innermost plunging region, non-axisymmetric accretion flow creates bisymmetric spiral magnetic fields and current sheets. Mass accretion along the spiral channel creates one armed spiral density distribution. Since the accreting matter carries in magnetic fields which subsequently are stretched and amplified due to differential rotation, current density increases inside the channel. Magnetic reconnection taking place in the current sheet produces slow mode shock waves which propagate away from the reconnection site. Magnetic energy release in the innermost plunging region can be the origin of X-ray shots observed in black hole candidates. Outflows and convective motions in accretion flows have been intensively discussed recently in the context of advection-dominated accretion flow (ADAF) based on two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) hydrodynamical simulations. We, however, point that without proper treatments of the disk magnetic fields, a major source of viscosity, one can never derive general, firm conclusions concerning the occurrence of outflows and convection. We analyzed the 3D MHD numerical simulation data of magnetized accretion flows initially threaded by weak toroidal magnetic fields, finding large-scale convective motions dominating near the black hole. In contrast, outflows occur only temporarily and are not very significant in our simulations. If there grow strong vertical fields somehow, however, formation of bi-polar jets is inevitable. It is claimed that radiation could be dominant at the outermost zones of the convective disks because of outward energy flow by convection, however, this is no longer the case in convective MHD flows, since accretion energy can be released via magnetic reconnection in the inner parts.
