Automated fact verification plays an essential role in fostering trust in the digital space. Despite the growing interest, the verification of temporal facts has not received much attention in the community. Temporal fact verification brings new challenges where cues of the temporal information need to be extracted and temporal reasoning involving various temporal aspects of the text must be applied. In this work, we propose an end-to-end solution for temporal fact verification that considers the temporal information in claims to obtain relevant evidence sentences and harness the power of large language model for temporal reasoning. Recognizing that temporal facts often involve events, we model these events in the claim and evidence sentences. We curate two temporal fact datasets to learn time-sensitive representations that encapsulate not only the semantic relationships among the events, but also their chronological proximity. This allows us to retrieve the top-k relevant evidence sentences and provide the context for a large language model to perform temporal reasoning and outputs whether a claim is supported or refuted by the retrieved evidence sentences. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed approach significantly enhances the accuracy of temporal claim verification, thereby advancing current state-of-the-art in automated fact verification.

We present an integrated UAV-hexapod robotic system designed for GNSS-denied maritime operations, capable of autonomous deployment and retrieval of a hexapod robot via a winch mechanism installed on a UAV. This system is intended to address the challenges of localization, control, and mobility in dynamic maritime environments. Our solution leverages sensor fusion techniques, combining optical flow, LiDAR, and depth data for precise localization. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this system in real-world scenarios, validating its performance during field tests in both controlled and operational conditions in the MBZIRC 2023 Maritime Challenge.

The recently observed very high energy (VHE) photons dubbed as GRB221009A by several terrestrial observatories such as LHAASO and Carpet-2 require a physics explanation beyond the standard model. Such energetic gamma ray bursts, originating from yet unknown very distance source at redshift z = 0.1505, would be directly scattererd by extragalactic background lights (EBL) rendering its improbable detection at the earth. We show that dark photon which resides in extra dimension would be able to resolve this issue when it oscillates resonantly with the photon in similar fashion with neutrino oscillation. We demonstrate that, for dark photon mass equals to 1 eV, the probability of GRB221009A photons with energy above 0.2 TeV to reach the earth lies in the range between $10^{-6} \, \text{to} \, 95\% $ for kinetic mixing values $10^{-14} \leq \epsilon \leq 10^{-12.5}$ allowed by current constraints., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

In real-world field operations, aerial grasping systems face significant challenges in dynamic environments due to strong winds, shifting surfaces, and the need to handle heavy loads. Particularly when dealing with heavy objects, the powerful propellers of the drone can inadvertently blow the target object away as it approaches, making the task even more difficult. To address these challenges, we introduce SPIBOT, a novel drone-tethered mobile gripper system designed for robust and stable autonomous target retrieval. SPIBOT operates via a tether, much like a spider, allowing the drone to maintain a safe distance from the target. To ensure both stable mobility and secure grasping capabilities, SPIBOT is equipped with six legs and sensors to estimate the robot's and mission's states. It is designed with a reduced volume and weight compared to other hexapod robots, allowing it to be easily stowed under the drone and reeled in as needed. Designed for the 2024 MBZIRC Maritime Grand Challenge, SPIBOT is built to retrieve a 1kg target object in the highly dynamic conditions of the moving deck of a ship. This system integrates a real-time action selection algorithm that dynamically adjusts the robot's actions based on proximity to the mission goal and environmental conditions, enabling rapid and robust mission execution. Experimental results across various terrains, including a pontoon on a lake, a grass field, and rubber mats on coastal sand, demonstrate SPIBOT's ability to efficiently and reliably retrieve targets. SPIBOT swiftly converges on the target and completes its mission, even when dealing with irregular initial states and noisy information introduced by the drone.

Stunting detection is a significant issue in Indonesian healthcare, causing lower cognitive function, lower productivity, a weakened immunity, delayed neuro-development, and degenerative diseases. In regions with a high prevalence of stunting and limited welfare resources, identifying children in need of treatment is critical. The diagnostic process often raises challenges, such as the lack of experience in medical workers, incompatible anthropometric equipment, and inefficient medical bureaucracy. To counteract the issues, the use of load cell sensor and ultrasonic sensor can provide suitable anthropometric equipment and streamline the medical bureaucracy for stunting detection. This paper also employs machine learning for stunting detection based on sensor readings. The experiment results show that the sensitivity of the load cell sensor and the ultrasonic sensor is 0.9919 and 0.9986, respectively. Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, primarily affecting the lungs. Early detection is crucial for improving treatment effectiveness and reducing transmission risk. Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly through image classification of chest X-rays, can assist in TB detection. However, class imbalance in TB chest X-ray datasets presents a challenge for accurate classification. In this paper, we propose a few-shot learning (FSL) approach using the Prototypical Network algorithm to address this issue. We compare the performance of ResNet-18, ResNet-50, and VGG16 in feature extraction from the TBX11K Chest X-ray dataset. Experimental results demonstrate classification accuracies of 98.93% for ResNet-18, 98.60% for ResNet-50, and 33.33% for VGG16. Despite significant advancements in active learning and adversarial attacks, the intersection of these two fields remains underexplored, particularly in developing robust active learning frameworks against dynamic adversarial threats. The challenge of developing robust active learning frameworks under dynamic adversarial attacks is critical, as these attacks can lead to catastrophic forgetting within the active learning cycle. This paper introduces Robust Active Learning (RoAL), a novel approach designed to address this issue by integrating Elastic Weight Consolidation (EWC) into the active learning process. Our contributions are threefold: First, we propose a new dynamic adversarial attack that poses significant threats to active learning frameworks. Second, we introduce a novel method that combines EWC with active learning to mitigate catastrophic forgetting caused by dynamic adversarial attacks. Finally, we conduct extensive experimental evaluations to demonstrate the efficacy of our approach. The results show that RoAL not only effectively counters dynamic adversarial threats but also significantly reduces the impact of catastrophic forgetting, thereby enhancing the robustness and performance of active learning systems in adversarial environments.

Southeast Asia (SEA) is a region rich in linguistic diversity and cultural variety, with over 1,300 indigenous languages and a population of 671 million people. However, prevailing AI models suffer from a significant lack of representation of texts, images, and audio datasets from SEA, compromising the quality of AI models for SEA languages. Evaluating models for SEA languages is challenging due to the scarcity of high-quality datasets, compounded by the dominance of English training data, raising concerns about potential cultural misrepresentation. To address these challenges, we introduce SEACrowd, a collaborative initiative that consolidates a comprehensive resource hub that fills the resource gap by providing standardized corpora in nearly 1,000 SEA languages across three modalities. Through our SEACrowd benchmarks, we assess the quality of AI models on 36 indigenous languages across 13 tasks, offering valuable insights into the current AI landscape in SEA. We discuss a collider probe of a dark sector model in which the dark matter is charged under a new, hidden $U(1)$ gauge group. In particular, we look for the so-called Darkstrahlung process, in which the final states dark matter radiates a new $Z'$ gauge boson and it manifests as dilepton resonances. This work emphasizes the potential of dilepton final states with missing transverse energy in probing the darkstrahlung process. We recast the ATLAS Run 2 search for dilepton resonances in association with missing energy in addition to the ATLAS and CMS searches for sleptons. We find that the recasted searches put strong constraints on the coupling between the dark matter and the $Z'$. Moreover, we evaluate refined search strategies for $Z'$ production and propose an analysis employing constraints on the lepton invariant mass and higher missing energy cut related to the darkstrahlung process. Simulation outcomes indicate substantial enhancements, particularly by a factor of 6 in regions featuring lower $Z'$ masses. Large language models (LLMs) show remarkable human-like capability in various domains and languages. However, a notable quality gap arises in low-resource languages, e.g., Indonesian indigenous languages, rendering them ineffective and inefficient in such linguistic contexts. To bridge this quality gap, we introduce Cendol, a collection of Indonesian LLMs encompassing both decoder-only and encoder-decoder architectures across a range of model sizes. We highlight Cendol's effectiveness across a diverse array of tasks, attaining 20% improvement, and demonstrate its capability to generalize to unseen tasks and indigenous languages of Indonesia. Furthermore, Cendol models showcase improved human favorability despite their limitations in capturing indigenous knowledge and cultural values in Indonesia. In addition, we discuss the shortcomings of parameter-efficient tunings, such as LoRA, for language adaptation. Alternatively, we propose the usage of vocabulary adaptation to enhance efficiency. Autonomous ships are essentially designed and equipped to perceive their internal and external environment and subsequently perform appropriate actions depending on the predetermined objective(s) without human intervention. Consequently, trajectory planning algorithms for autonomous berthing must consider factors such as system dynamics, ship actuators, environmental disturbances, and the safety of the ship, other ships, and port structures, among others. In this study, basing the ship dynamics on the low-speed MMG model, trajectory planning for an autonomous ship is modeled as an optimal control problem (OCP) that is transcribed into a nonlinear programming problem (NLP) using the direct multiple shooting technique. To enhance berthing safety, besides considering wind disturbances, speed control, actuators' limitations, and collision avoidance features are incorporated as constraints in the NLP, which is then solved using the Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) algorithm in MATLAB. Finally, the performance of the proposed planner is evaluated through (i) comparison with solutions obtained using CMA-ES for two different model ships, (ii) trajectory planning for different harbor entry and berth approach scenarios, and (iii) feasibility study using stochastically generated initial conditions and positions within the port boundaries. Simulation results indicate enhanced berthing safety as well as practical and computational feasibility making the planner suitable for real-time applications.

In active learning for graph-structured data, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have shown effectiveness. However, a common challenge in these applications is the underutilization of crucial structural information. To address this problem, we propose the Structural-Clustering PageRank method for improved Active learning (SPA) specifically designed for graph-structured data. SPA integrates community detection using the SCAN algorithm with the PageRank scoring method for efficient and informative sample selection. SPA prioritizes nodes that are not only informative but also central in structure. Through extensive experiments, SPA demonstrates higher accuracy and macro-F1 score over existing methods across different annotation budgets and achieves significant reductions in query time. In addition, the proposed method only adds two hyperparameters, $\epsilon$ and $\mu$ in the algorithm to finely tune the balance between structural learning and node selection. This simplicity is a key advantage in active learning scenarios, where extensive hyperparameter tuning is often impractical.

Democratizing access to natural language processing (NLP) technology is crucial, especially for underrepresented and extremely low-resource languages. Previous research has focused on developing labeled and unlabeled corpora for these languages through online scraping and document translation. While these methods have proven effective and cost-efficient, we have identified limitations in the resulting corpora, including a lack of lexical diversity and cultural relevance to local communities. To address this gap, we conduct a case study on Indonesian local languages. We compare the effectiveness of online scraping, human translation, and paragraph writing by native speakers in constructing datasets. Our findings demonstrate that datasets generated through paragraph writing by native speakers exhibit superior quality in terms of lexical diversity and cultural content. In addition, we present the \datasetname{} benchmark, encompassing 12 underrepresented and extremely low-resource languages spoken by millions of individuals in Indonesia. Our empirical experiment results using existing multilingual large language models conclude the need to extend these models to more underrepresented languages.
