This article introduces a conceptual model aimed at nurturing the creative economy within waterfront cities, spotlighting Palembang and Surabaya in Indonesia as case studies. The model seeks to uncover underlying trends that fortify creative economic endeavors in these localities, presenting them within a conceptual framework diagram. The research underscores the significance of establishing a conceptual model for optimal practices in creative economy development, specifically tailored to fortify the waterfront areas of Palembang and Surabaya. This study utilized qualitative methods in a sequential approach to assess current field conditions, develop a conceptual model, and integrate diverse data sources, including literature, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews. The article explores the crucial contributions of various stakeholders – academia, businesses, communities, government, and media – in driving the growth of the creative economy within waterfront cities. It also emphasizes essential dimensions such as human resources, technology, geography, policy, and sustainability as pivotal factors in strengthening programs that foster the creative economy in waterfront city areas in Indonesia.

Unemployment is a significant issue in many countries, including Indonesia. This study aims to assess the impact of independent variables on the dependent variable. The dependent variable is the unemployment rate in vocational higher education (Y), and the independent variables are the employment opportunities in vocational higher education (X1), government policy in the establishment of the Directorate General of Vocational Education (X2), and area differences between Java and outside Java (X3). Multiple linear regression with the Ordinary Least Squares method is used in the analysis. The findings indicate that the three independent variables have a statistically significant effect on the dependent variable. Variable X1 significantly affects the unemployment rate in vocational higher education in Indonesia, while variables X2 and X3 have a significant adverse effect. According to the findings of this study, there needs to be more labor in vocational higher education in Indonesia. The novelty of this research is to demonstrate the effect of establishing the Directorate General of Vocational Education in 2020, which is then updated based on the work procedure organization in 2021 to reduce the unemployment rate in Indonesian vocational higher education. Indonesia boasts the second-longest coastline in the world, with almost half of its cities surrounded by bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, and seas. The waterfront areas of these cities are vital and could be developed as a brand for each city. Two examples of such cities are Makassar and Surabaya, which have been developing waterfront city projects to increase tourism and improve city infrastructure. However, in practice, strengthening the branding of waterfront cities still faces various challenges. This research analyzes the barriers to strengthening city branding, specifically for waterfront cities in Makassar and Surabaya, using a case study method with a comparative descriptive design. The Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) approach was used to systematically analyze the barriers to branding waterfront cities and determine the best strategies for strengthening their branding. The identification of barriers revealed 15 barriers, which were summarized into five categories and structured into seven levels. Barriers with the highest value of driver power should be prioritized in problem-solving. Finally, this paper discusses strategies for strengthening waterfront city branding in Indonesia and presents the research findings, including recommendations for policy makers, urban planners, and stakeholders to collaboratively enhance the branding efforts and overcome the identified challenges. This study aimed to identify the effect of mechanical milling on the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of mangosteen pericarp. Mangosteen pericarp was milled under different milling times (30, 90, 150, and 210 min). The particle morphology before and after milling was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the average particle size was obtained from SEM images and analyzed statistically. The antioxidant activity was measured through the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl method. The total phenolic content for the non-milling sample was 14.52 × 104 µg GAE/g sample, and the highest total phenol content was 17.44 × 104 µg GAE/g sample for the sample milled for 210 min. The IC50 value decreased for samples with milling 150 and 210 min, which showed strong antioxidant activity, whereas the value of gallic acid equivalent increased. SEM observations showed the presence of agglomeration in the morphology of mangosteen pericarp samples. The average particle size of the mangosteen pericarp decreased as the milling time increased (up to 4499 nm for samples milled for 210 min). Therefore, mechanical milling had a significant effect on the phenolic content and antioxidant activity, which indicated an increase in the bioavailability of mangosteen pericarp.
