The flavour changing neutral current b → sl+l− is considered to be one of the most promising particle transitions to search for new physics at the current point of time. It cannot occur directly in the Standard Model, but only through higher order processes, and is therefore highly suppressed. This suppression of the Standard Model amplitude makes the influences on angular distribution and branching ratio predicted by various new physics models easier to measure. Previous experiments, most notably Belle I in 2016 and LHCb with its most recent update in 2020, have reported hints of lepton flavour universality violation at a level of 2.6 σ and 2.5 σ respectively for the angular observable P5′ in the decay B → K∗l+l−. The thesis at hand is part of Belle II’s undertaking of improving these results and thereby either verifying or excluding these tensions.As the full angular analysis necessary for a P5 measurement is out of scope for achieving within a single Master thesis, the present work’s aim is to lay the necessary foundation towards doing so in future projects. Since the over- arching analysis is not complete, no real data has been used in order to avoid the introduction of biases, thereby relying entirely on simulated Monte Carlo data. Nevertheless, the analysis is entirely compatible with real data as well. After the selection and reconstruction of signal candidates from raw data, an extensive analysis of higher order correlations was conducted to avoid biases in later parts of the angular analysis. Background was suppressed using gradient boosted decision trees, and the branching ratios were calculated using signal yields extracted from 1D fits on the beam constrained mass. Last but not least, the stability of the fitter against statistical fluctuations was tested using 10 000 poisson distributed toys.Unfortunately, major delays in data taking have made it very difficult to improve the precision achieved by previous experiments within the foreseeable future, with only ∼ 350fb−1 being available for now in comparison to the 711 fb−1 available to Belle I. While the predicted signal yields and purity for the B+ decays are competitive with the Belle I results, this is nowhere near the case for the B0. As a result, it seems unlikely that an improvement in P5′ precision can be achieved with the current amount of data available. An interesting option to circumvent the current statistical limits might be to use both Belle I and Belle II data sets simultaneously for a combined measurement.

Lava tubes are particularly attracting interest due to their importance as astrobiological targets on Earth and Mars. A whole collection of microbial life and biosignatures preserved in volcanic rocks can be found in lava tubes. Understanding and identifying these microorganisms and their biosignatures may help us to recognize structures that could indicate the presence of life on other planets characterized by similar volcanic features. Within the PANGAEA-X project (Planetary ANalogue Geological and Astrobiological Exercise for Astronauts) organized by the European Space Agency (ESA), we have conducted a microbiological campaign in the Corona lava tube in Lanzarote (Spain). Lanzarote represents the easternmost island of the Canary archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean. Because of the arid climate and volcanic landscape it is considered an excellent analogue of the Moon and Mars where it is possible to test new approaches to planetary science investigations, helping to understand the geological and potential microbial processes on Mars. The Corona lava tube is considered one of the biggest lava tubes by volume known on Earth, being formed during an effusive eruption of the Corona Volcano occurred 21,000±6,500 years ago. With a total length of 8 km, tube sections of over 30 meters in diameter and a series of collapses aligned along the tube development, this cave represents one of the most promising analogue to candidate lava tubes detected on Mars. The objectives of this experiment comprised: 1) Recognition of microbial colonization patterns on cave walls and sampling of microbial mats; 2) In-situ 16S rRNA gene analysis to identify microbial communities and avoid cross-contamination. For this purpose, DNA extraction, PCR amplification and full-length 16S amplicon sequencing using the miniaturised and portable thermal cycler miniPCR (Amplyus) and DNA sequencer MinION of Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) were performed in the lava tube, and 3) Geochemical and mineralogical characterization of secondary mineral deposits associated with microbial mats. The 16S Nanopore sequencing of coloured microbial mats revealed that Proteobacteria dominated in this cave ecosystem. Of note was the presence of moderate bacterial halophiles within the Gammaproteobacteria class. In-situ V-NIR spectroscopy and laboratory XRD analyses revealed the presence of abundant deposits of gypsum, halite and clay minerals associated to some specific microbial mats. Our data indicated that the Corona lava tube hosts a highly specialized subsurface biosphere dominated by microorganisms able to interact with minerals. This study showed that in-situ DNA analysis of subsurface microbial mats and secondary mineral deposits in the lava tube environment offers a challenging opportunity for geomicrobiological and astrobiological research., This study was supported by project CGL2013-41674-P and a “Juan de la Cierva – Incorporación” post-doctoral contract (ref. This document describes the final bundle of client-side components, including descriptions of their functionality, and links to their full designs and downloadable versions. This bundle aggregates only the WP2 assets. Other client-side assets not covered here will be addressed in the final WP3 deliverables. Those assets created and licenced as open software will be continuously improved and maintained by their creators until the end of the project (the task has been extended to month 48) and beyond. For a full description of the related server-side components, please refer to D2.2 - Final Bundle of Server-side Components.

This document describes the evaluation asset, which is a tool that supports the evaluation of applied games. The overall goal is to provide a modular approach to game evaluation that can easily be applied and integrated by game developers in their game projects. The idea of this asset is to utilise game-based user data and translate it into meaningful information about the quality of a game.The technical implementation of the asset consists in a client-side and a server-side component for collecting and pre-processing interaction data from games. This data is then analysed in terms of meaningful evaluation variables on which automatic reports and visualisations can be retrieved. The evaluation asset comes with configurable evaluation metrics for translating the data into meaningful information about aspects on usability and game experience.
