ABSTRACTThe first hydrogeological mapping of Ischia Island at the 1:10,000 scale is presented and discussed. The ‘Map of the geohydrologic units of Ischia Island’ and the accompanying hydrostratigraphic sequence at a basin scale are based on the most recent geological maps and data from the CAR.G Project, and on new volcanological and hydrogeological surveys and studies. Data sources include the database stored by the INGV, Sezione di Napoli, Osservatorio Vesuviano and field investigations, including a survey of the springs and thermo-mineral springs which has been neglected up to now. In total 130 volcanostratigraphic units and 18 geohydrologic units were recognized; the distribution of fumaroles sites was enhanced, and 60 springs/thermal springs were identified/rediscovered. The proposed hydrogeological map provides an overview of the volcano-tectonic evolution of Ischia Island and upgrades the hydrogeological model, becoming a catalyst for the effort to acquire better data and to manage natural both resources and risks.

3. Viability of black oat seeds in the soil as a function of burial time

This work aimed to verify if there is a temporal effect on the viability of black oat seeds under natural conditions after harvesting, under burial. The treatments were arranged in a bifactorial scheme, with five black oat genotypes and eight exhumation periods (90; 180; 270; 360; 450; 540; 630 and 720 days after burial), distributed in four repetitions of one hundred seeds buried at 10 cm deep. After each exhumation, seeds separation and count, those that did not germinate, did not rot or were predated were considered as whole seeds, which underwent a process of asepsis and disinfection to verify viability through the germination test and vigor through the tetrazolium test (live seeds). The genotypes showed a decreasing percentage of seeds over time, Agro Planalto showed the lowest percentage at 360 days after burial, Agro Esteio at 450 days, Agro Coxilha, Agro Quaraí and Agro Zebu at 540 days. The percentage of live seeds differed between the genotypes only in the third period of exhumation (270 days after burial), the lowest percentages of live seeds were identified in the genotypes Agro Esteio and Agro Planalto at 360 days after burial, in Agro Coxilha and Agro Quaraí at 450 days and Agro Zebu at 540 days. Black oat seeds remain viable in the soil for a period of 450 days after burial.

A revaluation of the relative sea-level (RSL) indicators in the Baia di Infreschi (Cilento, Southern Italy) supported by new 30 U/Th dating on speleothems indicates that the upper level of Lithophaga burrows identified by Bini et al. (2020) at ∼9 m a.s.l. and correlated to the Last Interglacial (LIG) highstand should be referred to the highstand of the MIS 9e, whereas the local RSL for the highstand of the LIG is now reassessed at 5.3 ± 0.18 m a.s.l. The upper level of the Lithophaga marker can be followed for ∼12 km along the coast, suggesting a substantial absence of important relative tectonic movements. In the Baia di Infreschi an additional marine indicator, a notch sealed by a flowstone dated ∼110 ka, indicates several phases of RSL stationing below the maximum highstand of the LIG. The presence of flowstones as low as 2 m a.s.l. dated to the MIS 7 shows that the highstand of MIS 7 was probably below the present sea level. All these evidences allow us to reassess the stratigraphy of some archaeological caves in the area, indicating that the sedimentary successions preserved there are older than what was previously believed.

Campi Flegrei caldera is an Italian high-risk volcano experiencing a progressively more intense long-term uplift, accompanied by increasing seismicity and geochemical emissions over the last two decades. Ground deformation shows an axisymmetric bell-shaped pattern, with a maximum uplift of about 120 cm, from 2005, in the caldera central area. We analyzed Sentinel-1 and COSMO-SkyMed Multi-Temporal DInSAR measurements and GNSS data to reveal and investigate a geodetic anomaly that has clearly manifested since 2021, locally deviating from the typical bell-shaped deformation pattern. This anomaly is located east of Pozzuoli town, in the Mt. Olibano–Accademia area, covers an area of about 1.3 km2 and shows, in comparison to surrounding areas, a maximum uplift deficit of about 9 cm between 2021 and 2023. To investigate the anomaly causes, we analyzed the caldera seismicity and inverted the DInSAR data to determine the primary source of the ground deformation pattern, which is consistent with a penny-shaped source located approximately 3800 m beneath the Pozzuoli town, with a radius of about 1200 m. We also found that the time evolution of the uplift deficit in the geodetic anomaly area correlates well with the earthquake occurrence, with the greater magnitude events clustering in this area. These considerations suggest the geodetic anomaly is a local response to the tensile stress regime produced by the inflating primary deformation source. This phenomenon can be influenced by the Mt. Olibano–Accademia lava domes lithological heterogeneities that may induce a localized reaction to ground deformation during the inflationary phase. Our interpretation aligns with the concentration of earthquakes and hydrothermal fluid emissions in this area, indicating the presence of faults, fractures, and fluid circulation. Accordingly, the geodetic anomaly area represents a zone of crustal weakness that requires careful monitoring and study.

A Robinson list protects phone subscribers against commercial spam calls. Its least basic functionality is to collect the denial of the subscribers to be contacted by market operators. Nowadays, Robinson lists run as centralised services, which implies that citizens should trust third parties for the management of their choices. In this paper, we show a design that allows us to realise a Robinson list as a decentralised service. Our work leverages the experience developed by Fondazione Ugo Bordoni as the manager of the Italian Robinson list. We present a general solution and a proof-of-concept (PoC) adopting the Algorand technology. We evaluate the performances of our PoC in terms of its scalability and of the latency perceived by the involved actors. 10. Numerical method of the exact control for the elastic string problem with moving boundary

The objective of this article is to investigate, analytically and numerically, the exact control problem associated with a mathematical model that describes the vertical vibrations of elastic strings, with moving contours. To determine the approximate numerical solution, following the description of the HUM (Hilbert Uniqueness Method), the finite element method associated with the Newmark method was used for the adjunct problem and the backward problem. To calculate the optimal control, the conjugated gradient method is used. The properties of a numerical problem must be consistent with the theoretical mathematical one. However, in order to obtain the numerical control, the grid is of fundamental importance, so we used the Bi-Grid technique. In this way, we developed an algorithm to solve this problem. Numerical simulations were performed for different initial data and moving contours, with and without the Bi-Grid algorithm and the numerical results confirmed the consistency between the theoretical and numerical results.

A multidisciplinary study, including geomorphological, stratigraphic, paleontological and archaeological methods and techniques, allowed for a detailed exploration of coastal landforms and environments in front of the ancient city of Pompeii (southern Italy). The famous site of Pompeii sits on a small volcanic hill in the alluvial-coastal plain of the Sarno River, very close to the ancient paleoshoreline. When the Roman city was buried during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE, pyroclastic fall and flow deposits covered the urban centres and ancient coastal landforms. In this study, 83 new boreholes were carried out up to a depth of 10 m. Some of them (15) were analysed for their sedimentological, stratigraphical and paleontological characterisation, in order to reconstruct the sedimentary environments in 79 CE. The data collected allow for new hypotheses to be formulated regarding the paleoshorelines, as well as the 79 CE coastal landforms and environments. In particular, litho-stratigraphic and fossil assemblages highlight the presence of shallow marine environments in a large back-ridge depression, named Masseria Curati, that is located just outside the city walls. This hypothesis opens new insights on the unknown location of the harbour of the Roman city.

The aim of this work is to develop a prototype of integrated detector system to monitor environmental hazard: appearance of flames, smoke, sparks or dangerous gases (flammable, toxic, radioactive). We built and successfully tested prototypes of all components of the system. Our sensors are based on established CERN technologies and have superior characteristics, featuring between 10 to 1000 times higher sensitivity than the best commercial sensors. Introducción: A la fecha no existe consenso sobre la dosis óptima de verde de indocianina a administrar que permita el mayor realce de la vía biliar extrahepática con menor realce del parénquima hepático. El objetivo principal de este proyecto es analizar las diferencias entre una dosis de verde indocianina ajustada al peso de 0.0119mg/kg y una dosis de 2.5mg, una hora antes de la cirugía en pacientes operados de colecistectomía laparoscópica en el CMDLT en el tiempo comprendido entre abril – noviembre 2023. Métodos: ensayo clínico aleatorizado. Se evaluaron 30 pacientes y se dividieron en dos grupos según dosis administrada. Se obtuvieron datos generales y demográficos; del procedimiento quirúrgico se evaluó la intensidad de fluorescencia de la vía biliar. Luego de la cirugía se llenó la instrumento de recolección de datos, y se copiaron en una base de datos para ser analizado a posteriori. Resultados: No hubo reacciones adversas a la administración del fármaco, ni complicaciones trans o postoperatorias. Con la micro dosis el conducto cístico fue identificado en 42% y 82% antes y después de la disección del triángulo de Calot, mientras que con la dosis estándar un 30% y 93%, estas diferencias no fueron significativas, sin embargo, se aprecia una tendencia general de superioridad de la micro dosis. Abstract This study aimed to verify the effects of congested fixture and matches’ participation on internal and external workload indexes in professional Brazilian soccer players. Rate of perceived exertion-based training load (sRPE), distance- and accelerometry-based measures were daily monitored over 119 training sessions and 33 matches performed by 29 male outfield players. En este trabajo se realiza una interpretación holística de la gestión de diferentes actores sobre dos casos de estudios, las áreas naturales transfronterizas de la triple frontera entre Croacia, Hungría y Serbia y las áreas naturales protegidas ubicadas en el embalse de Yacyretá en la frontera de Argentina y Paraguay; dada su aptitud para fomentar una mayor coordinación y cooperación entre ellos, a favor de la naturaleza y sobreseyendo las barreras que generan límites jurisdiccionales. Para ello, ha sido aplicado un método empírico analítico ad hoc, basado en la observación, que permite profundizar la interpretación y la descripción de las características generales reconocidas en las áreas de interés y la importancia de entablar conexiones entre las áreas naturales protegidas y con sus territorios vecinos, a fin de evitar el aislamiento, la degradación o pérdida de los servicios ecosistémicos y del patrimonio natural y cultural. Los estudios de casos analizados entre las áreas protegidas de Argentina y Paraguay, a lo largo del río Paraná; y entre Croacia, Hungría y Serbia sobre el río Danubio, han permitido reconocer que la cooperación transfronteriza se convierte en una herramienta para afrontar problemas ambientales y diferencias de gestión. Además de permitir identificar los obstáculos y la cooperación -formal e informal- entre las partes ha dado paso a nuevas propuestas e iniciativas, logrando reconocer el potencial de declaración de un área protegida transfronteriza para Yacyretá.

Abstract Background Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) continues to be a condition that carries high rates of morbidity, mortality, and disability around the world. One of its complications is neurogenic pulmonary edema (NPE), which is mainly caused by sympathetic hyperactivity. Due to the complexity of the pathophysiological process and the unspecificity of the clinical presentation, it is little known by general practitioners, medical students and other health care workers not directly related to the neurological part, making the management of this chaotic condition difficult. This review aims to present recent evidence on clinical concepts relevant to the identification and management of NPE secondary to SAH. Main body of the abstract NPE is defined as a syndrome of acute onset following significant central nervous system (CNS) injury. Its etiology has been proposed to stem from the release of catecholamines that produce cardiopulmonary dysfunction, with this syndrome being associated with spinal cord injury, cerebrovascular disorders, traumatic brain injury, status epilepticus, and meningitis. NPE has long been considered a rare event; but it may occur more frequently, mainly in patients with SAH. There are two clinical presentations of NPE: the early form develops in the first hours/minutes after injury, while the late form presents 12–24 h after neurological injury. Clinical manifestations consist of non-specific signs of respiratory distress: dyspnea, tachypnea, hypoxia, pink expectoration, crackles on auscultation, which usually resolve within 24–48 h in 50% of patients. Unfortunately, there are no tools to make the specific diagnosis, so the diagnosis is by exclusion. The therapeutic approach consists of two interventions: treatment of the underlying neurological injury to reduce intracranial pressure and control sympathetic hyperactivity related to the lung injury, and supportive treatment for pulmonary edema. Short conclusion SAH is a severe condition that represents a risk to the life of the affected patient due to the possible complications that may develop. NPE is one of these complications, which due to the common manifestation of a respiratory syndrome, does not allow early and accurate diagnosis, being a diagnosis of exclusion. Therefore, in any case of CNS lesion with pulmonary involvement, NPE should be suspected immediately.

ObjectiveThe first-line treatment for Cushing’s disease is transsphenoidal surgery, after which the rates of remission are 60 to 80%, with long-term recurrence of 20 to 30%, even in those with real initial remission. Drug therapies are indicated for patients without initial remission or with surgical contraindications or recurrence, and ketoconazole is one of the main available therapies. The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety profile of and the treatment response to ketoconazole in Cushing’s disease patients followed up at the endocrinology outpatient clinic of a Brazilian university hospital.Patients and methodsThis was a retrospective cohort of Cushing’s disease patients with active hypercortisolism who used ketoconazole at any stage of follow-up. Patients who were followed up for less than 7 days, who did not adhere to treatment, or who were lost to follow-up were excluded.ResultsOf the 172 Cushing’s disease patients who were followed up between 2004 and 2020, 38 received ketoconazole. However, complete data was only available for 33 of these patients. Of these, 26 (78%) underwent transsphenoidal surgery prior to using ketoconazole, five of whom (15%) had also undergone radiotherapy; seven used ketoconazole as a primary treatment. Ketoconazole use ranged from 14 days to 14.5 years. A total of 22 patients had a complete response (66%), three patients had a partial response (9%), and eight patients had no response to treatment (24%), including those who underwent radiotherapy while using ketoconazole. Patients whose hypercortisolism was controlled or partially controlled with ketoconazole had lower baseline 24-h urinary free cortisol levels than the uncontrolled group [times above the upper limit of normal: 0.62 (SD, 0.41) vs. 5.3 (SD, 8.21); p < 0.005, respectively] in addition to more frequent previous transsphenoidal surgery (p < 0.04). The prevalence of uncontrolled patients remained stable over time (approximately 30%) despite ketoconazole dose adjustments or association with other drugs, which had no significant effect. One patient received adjuvant cabergoline from the beginning of the follow-up, and it was prescribed to nine others due to clinical non-response to ketoconazole alone. Ten patients (30%) reported mild adverse effects, such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and loss of appetite. Only four patients had serious adverse effects that warranted discontinuation. There were 20 confirmed episodes of hypokalemia among 10/33 patients (30%).ConclusionKetoconazole effectively controlled hypercortisolism in 66% of Cushing’s disease patients, being a relatively safe drug for those without remission after transsphenoidal surgery or whose symptoms must be controlled until a new definitive therapy is carried out. Hypokalemia is a frequent metabolic effect not yet described in other series, which should be monitored during treatment.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To review the current literature regarding variant (non-clear) histology of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and the clinical management of these renal tumors. Material and Methods: A PubMed database search was performed in May 2020 focusing on variant RCC, its diagnosis and associated syndromes, tumor characteristics, and options for management. Results: A broad range of pathological, clinical and diagnostic characteristics amongst non-ccRCC variants were found to have an impact on the overall management of these tumors. The imaging modalities, frequency of surveillance, and timing for intervention were found to be dependent on the type of genetic alterations, type of histology, and tumor growth rates. The timing and type of surgery as well as the systemic therapy are tailored to the specific tumor type and patient. Conclusion: The findings of this review suggest that clinical management should be considered and adjusted for patients with non-ccRCC histological variants based on tumor subtype and genetic alterations.

44. Structural Composite Material with Novel Cellulose Fibre Reinforcement

- Abstract
In recent decades, the necessity to find a completely environmentally friendly substitute for synthetic fibres in composite applications has intensified, driven by the objective of reducing emissions in both the production and disposal of composite components. Natural fibres present a potential solution, yet they have some issues such as the inhomogeneous quality of their cross-section and mechanical properties, depending on different aspects, for example, growing conditions and the amount of intake water. Another potential solution is organic man-made fibres, such as fibre made from Cellulose NanoFibrils, which do not present the previously cited drawbacks.This thesis investigates and compares the potentials of organic fibres, either man-made or natural, in composite reinforcement applications. To accomplish this, organic fibres are integrated into composite plates using two distinct thermoset matrices, epoxy and vinyl ester, respectively via methods of hot pressing and vacuum infusion. Subsequently, the produced composite plates undergo tensile testing, with the results being compared with the theoretical values. Furthermore, microscopy is employed to examine the adhesion at the interface between reinforcement and matrix.The findings indicate that man-made fibres from Cellulose NanoFibrils bind more efficiently with thermoset matrices compared to flax fibres, making them more adept as reinforcement materials for thermoset composites., Under de senaste decennierna har behovet av att hitta en helt miljövänlig ersättning för syntetiska fibrer i kompositapplikationer intensifierats, drivet av målet att minska utsläppen både vid produktion och avfallshantering av kompositkomponenter. Naturliga fibrer presenterar en potentiell lösning, men de har vissa problem som den ojämna kvaliteten på deras tvärsnitt och mekaniska egenskaper, beroende på olika aspekter, till exempel växtförhållanden och mängden intaget vatten. En annan potentiell lösning är organiska konstgjorda fibrer, som fibrer tillverkade av cellulosa nanofibriller, som inte har de tidigare nämnda nackdelarna.Denna avhandling undersöker och jämför potentialen hos organiska fibrer, antingen konstgjorda eller naturliga, i kompositförstärkningsapplikationer. För att uppnå detta integreras organiska fibrer i kompositplattor med hjälp av två olika termohärdande matriser, epoxi och vinyl-ester, via metoder för varmpressning och vakuuminfusion. Därefter genomgår de producerade kompositplattorna dragprovning, med resultaten jämförda med de teoretiska värdena. Dessutom används mikroskopi för att undersöka vidhäftningen vid gränssnittet mellan förstärkning och matris.Resultaten indikerar att konstgjorda fibrer från cellulosa nanofibriller binder effektivare med termohärdande matriser jämfört med linfibrer, vilket gör dem mer lämpliga som förstärkningsmaterial för termohärdande kompositer.

- Abstract
The ALICE Collaboration reports a differential measurement of inclusive jet suppression using pp and Pb−Pb collision data at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon collision sNN−−−√=5.02 TeV. Charged-particle jets are reconstructed using the anti-kT algorithm with resolution parameters R= 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6 in pp collisions and R= 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 in central (0−10%), semi-central (30−50%), and peripheral (60−80%) Pb−Pb collisions. A novel approach based on machine learning is employed to mitigate the influence of jet background. This enables measurements of inclusive jet suppression in new regions of phase space, including down to the lowest jet pT≥40 GeV/c at R=0.6 in central Pb−Pb collisions. This is an important step for discriminating different models of jet quenching in the quark-gluon plasma. The transverse momentum spectra, nuclear modification factors, derived cross section, and nuclear modification factor ratios for different jet resolution parameters of charged-particle jets are presented and compared to model predictions. A mild dependence of the nuclear modification factor ratios on collision centrality and resolution parameter is observed. The results are compared to a variety of jet-quenching models with varying levels of agreement.

- Abstract
The Chiral Magnetic Wave (CMW) phenomenon is essential to provide insights into the strong interaction in QCD, the properties of the quark-gluon plasma, and the topological characteristics of the early universe, offering a deeper understanding of fundamental physics in high-energy collisions. Measurements of the charge-dependent anisotropic flow coefficients are studied in Pb-Pb collisions at center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon collision sNN−−−√= 5.02 TeV to probe the CMW. In particular, the slope of the normalized difference in elliptic (v2) and triangular (v3) flow coefficients of positively and negatively charged particles as a function of their event-wise normalized number difference, is reported for inclusive and identified particles. The slope rNorm3 is found to be larger than zero and to have a magnitude similar to rNorm2, thus pointing to a large background contribution for these measurements. Furthermore, rNorm2 can be described by a blast wave model calculation that incorporates local charge conservation. In addition, using the event shape engineering technique yields a fraction of CMW (fCMW) contribution to this measurement which is compatible with zero. This measurement provides the very first upper limit for fCMW, and in the 10-60% centrality interval it is found to be 26% (38%) at 95% (99.7%) confidence level.

47. A GIS-Based Hydrogeological Approach to the Assessment of the Groundwater Circulation in the Ischia Volcanic Island (Italy)

Assessing the variations in space and time of groundwater circulation in volcanic islands is of paramount importance to the description of the hydro-geo-thermal system and implementation of hydrogeological, geochemical, and volcanic monitoring systems. In fact, the reliable reconstruction of the groundwater potentiometric surface in such composite volcanic aquifer systems can enable the identification of the most advantageous strategies for both the sustainable use of groundwater resources and the management of volcanic risk. Geographical Information System (GIS) platforms can support the integration and analysis of many spatial and temporal variables derived from monitoring of active volcanoes and the elaboration of spatially continuous data. However, open issues still affect the reliability and general applicability of common spatial interpolation methods in the case of groundwater potentiometric surfaces. This is related to the assessment of the main stratigraphic and volcano-tectonic features affecting the hydraulic head changes. With regard to the dynamically very active Ischia Island (Italy), this study illustrates a GIS-based hydrogeological approach to identify the most accurate interpolation method for mapping the potentiometric surface in complex hydrogeological terrains. The proposed approach has been applied to the existing dataset (1977–2003) stored by Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia. Based on a careful geological and hydrogeological survey, a total of 267 wells, from 5 to 250 m in depth, were processed. The data pre-processing involved four meteorological time-series data (1922–1997) and six long records of piezometric water levels (1930–1994). As a result, knowledge of the delineation of rather homogeneous stratigraphic and volcano-tectonic structures at the basin-scale has improved. Thus, new, more reliable potentiometric surfaces of the four main geothermal areas closest to the coast were produced during both dry and wet seasons. The reliability of the processed potentiometric surface was then validated by comparing the spatially continuous data with complementary field data. These findings point toward an optimal interpolation approach for representing the seasonal and areal distribution of main hydrogeological parameters in complex aquifer systems. Finally, insights into variations of hydrological behavior at an active volcanic area will foster an understanding of possible involvement of fresh and thermal waters in triggering phreatic explosions.

Embasado em ampla revisão e na experiência dos autores, sugere-se um fluxograma de diagnóstico e manejo dos IA, na expectativa de qualificar a abordagem desta alteração em nosso meio, evitando tanto investigações dispendiosas quanto tratamentos cirúrgicos desnecessários ou até mesmo catastróficos.

50. New approach for obtaining the C-factor of RUSLE considering the seasonal effect of rainfalls on vegetation cover

We present a new approach for calculating the C-factor of RUSLE considering the effect of low-reflectance vegetation cover areas on the reduction of the effects on erosion caused by rainfall seasonality. For this, we propose the coefficients Cr2 (rescaled 2) and C-PC (Precipitation Correction), which represent the C-factor, and an adaptation in NDVI calculation, according to the seasonality of precipitation (NDVI-PC). The Cr2 factor is used when there is no seasonal effect of rainfall on vegetation, while the C-PC factor is calculated for localities under the influence of seasonality, from NDVI-PC. The proposed approaches were tested using different satellites images in the Palmares-Ribeirão do Saco watershed, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The values of Cr2 and C-PC factors were compared to the Cr factor (rescaled) and to mean values from the literature for different land covers. Our results indicated that the Cr2 factor represents an improvement in accuracy in relation to Cr by considering specific values of the studied area to normalize the data without generalizations. Furthermore, the C-PC factor is able to simulate the effect of seasonality, providing more realistics values of soil loss by the RUSLE as a function of the proportion of area affected by the rainfall seasonality obtained from NDVI-PC. We conclude that both Cr2 and C-PC factors generate values similar of the C-factor observed in the literature, and therefore are able to provide better soil loss estimation than that using the Cr factor.
