Background: Postpartum haemorrhage contributes significantly to maternal mortality and morbidity in Nigeria and globally with retained placenta being identified as the leading cause in Nigeria. Aim: This study was designed to establish the relationship between gamma-glutamyl carboxylase (GGCX) levels and bleeding tendencies among pregnant women. Methodology: The study was conducted at Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Katsina, Nigeria. A total number of 180 subjects were sampled after obtaining their informed consent. The ELIZA method was used to analyze the gamma-glutamyl carboxylase enzyme while a semi-automated coagulometer was used to analyze the prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). Results: The results obtained were analyzed using SPSS version 20. The mean ages of the participants were 27±5.13years and about nineteen (10.6%) were in the first trimester of their pregnancy, ninety-one (50.6%) in the second trimester, and seventy (38.9%) were in the third trimester. At the end of the study, it was established that, at P< 0.05 level of significance, there is a weak positive correlation and no linear relationship (r = 0.06, n = 180, P = 0.935) between gamma-glutamyl carboxylase (GGCX) and prothrombin time (PT) and a negative correlation and no linear relationship (r = −0.093, n = 180, P = 0.212) between gamma-glutamyl carboxylase (GGCX) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). About eighty-three (46.1%) of the subjects sampled showed a high risk of bleeding with a prothrombin time >15 seconds and about twenty-three (12.8%) showed a high risk of bleeding with an APTT >37 seconds and none of the subjects showed an absolute deficiency of gamma-glutamyl carboxylase enzyme. Conclusion: The assessment of gamma-glutamyl carboxylase and prothrombin time might be very useful in identifying patients at risk of postpartum bleeding and thereby reducing the incidents of maternal mortality and morbidity due to postpartum haemorrhage.

This study is to ascertain the effective management of the computerized student results processing system at Enugu state polytechnic. The study's objectives include: lessening the staff's workload; making it simpler for the safe, efficient archiving and retrieval of student academic records; and reducing the time spent processing results. This study adopts a system strategy for completing this goal to build a platform employing programming expertise and design to produce an interface that allows instructors and students to communicate with one another for effective study. PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and MYSQL are some of the programming languages that can be used for the database structure. The study shows that the system's goals and objectives were achieved at the end of development, and the issues with the previous system were reduced. It is a great and fruitful effort because of how quickly it operates, how effectively it operates, and how well it does its role in computing student results. We concluded that the system produces accurate documentation, lowers the possibility of error and miscalculation, sorts each student's record in accordance with certain criteria, and shortens the time needed for result calculation. We recommended that all higher institutions in Nigeria be encouraged to adopt an electronic processing system for computing student results to increase productivity in result processing.

This study examined the design and implementation of computerized result processing in Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo. The specific objectives are to examine the effect of manual computerized results on students’ efficiency and assess the effect of electronic computerized results on students’ efficiency in the Enugu state. The study adopts a description method, a systemic approach that required a coherent and well-running system. The bottom-Up or Top-Down approach was required to take into account all related variables of the system. The finding revealed that manual computerized result has a significant negative effect on students’ efficiency. While electronic computerized results have a significant positive effect on students’ efficiency in the Enugu state. we concluded that electronic computerized results are far better than manual computerization of student results at Enugu state polytechnic Iwollo. We recommended that management should endeavor to implement with immediate effect the use of electronic computation of student results.

Introduction: The precision in the placement of a glenoid support in reverse shoulder prosthesis is the most important factor defining the long-term evolution of the prosthesis. We put in place an automatic measure of the version and the glenoidien inclination on various incidences of a 3 dimension scannographic view. This study had as objective to evaluate the plannification realized in 34 patients in whom the protocol was applied in the CHU de Dijon.Methodology: Our study was based on 34 patients who benefitted from a reverse shoulder prosthesis indicated for shoulder arthrosis at university hospital of Dijon. We compared the orientation of the glenoid implant chosen in the course of the plannification with the aid of the software Personalfitet® with the initial position of the glenoid cavity measured on preoperative scans.Results: The average preoperative inclination angle measured on CT scan images was 6,5°, with a maximum of 27° and a minimum of 13°. The version was 11,3°, with a maximum retroversion of 31°. On the planification, the average inclination was at 8,6°, with a minimum inclination of 2° and a maximum inclination of 21,5°.Discussion: The values that we obtained from our method are similar to those described by other studies in literature.Conclusion: Thanks to preoperative plannification with the use of CT scan, the added correction to the orientation of the glenoid support can be perfectly defined.

Acetaminophen is an extensively used analgesic and antipyretic drug which is often times used without prescription and, over dose of which can cause liver damage. This study therefore, investigated the hepatotoxicity of acetaminophen and the protective effects of virgin coconut oil through histological and biochemical procedures using adult wistar rats. The rats of both sexes (N=20) with an average weight of 200g were randomly assigned into control group (n1=5) and tested groups (n2=5, n3=5, n4=5). The rats in tested group 1 received 650mg/kg body weight of acetaminophen daily, rats in tested group 2 received 650mg/kg body weight of acetaminophen daily and 5ml/kg body weight of virgin coconut oil daily, rats in tested group 3 received 650mg/kg body weight of acetaminophen daily and 10ml/kg body weight of virgin coconut oil daily and given for fifteen days through orogastriccanula administration while the control rats received sterile water through the same route for the same period. The rats were fed with vital finisher mash obtained from a dealer at High level market, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria and given water ad libitum. The rats were sacrificed by local anaesthesia (Chloroform) method on the sixteenth day of the experiment. Blood was collected for biochemical enzyme analysis and livers ere excised for histological tissue processing and examination. The values obtained from the test were recorded and compared statistically using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Mean differences between the groups were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and comparison between the mean by Dunnett post hoc test. The enzyme level of Aspartate Aminotransferase(AST), Alkaline Aminotransferase (ALT) and Alanine Phosphatase (ALP) in the test group 1 increased and was statistically significant (p0.05) when compared to test group 1, the enzyme level of AST, ALT, ALP in test group 3 decreased and was statistically insignificant (P>0.05) when compared to test group 1. The histological results showed moderate damage of liver cells in test group 1, mild damage of liver cells in test group 2 and no damage of liver cells in test group 3. Therefore virgin coconut oil has protective effect against hepatic injury induced by acetaminophen. It is recommended that further studies aimed at corroborating these observations be carried out. &nbsp

All the rats were exposed to 650mg/kg body weight of acetaminophen daily, in addition rats in group 2 received 5ml/kg body weight of virgin coconut oil (VCO) daily, rats in group 3 received 10ml/kg body weight of VCO and group 4 received 15ml/kg of VCO for fifteen days through orogastric canula administration. While the control rats received distilled water. The rats were fed with Vital® finisher mash, and given water ad libitum. The rats were sacrificed by local anesthesia (chloroform) method on the sixteenth day of the experiment. Blood was collected through cardiac puncture for biochemical analysis of liver enzymes, and livers were excised for histological tissue processing and examination. The values obtained from the test were subjected to analysis of Variance, and mean comparison by Dunnett post hoc test using statistical package for social sciences. The levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline amino transferase (ALT) and alanine phosphatase (ALP) in the test group 1 increased and was statistically significant (p0.05) when compared to test group 1, the enzyme level of AST, ALT, ALP in test group 3 decreased and was statistically insignificant (P>0.05) when compared to test group 1. Organic waste when used as soil amendment improves the fertility status of soil and crop yield, but unrestricted application on soil could lead to accumulation of heavy metals to a level, toxic to plants themselves and the animals that consumes them. Thus a field experiment was conducted in three (3) different planting seasons using three tillage methods (mound, ridge, flat) and four different rates (0t/ha, 2t/ha, 4t/ha, 6t/ha) of wood ash to evaluate the effect of tillage and wood ash on heavy metal; copper (Cu), boron (B) and lead (Pb) content of soil and uptake by castor shoot and seed. Data generated from the study was analyzed using crop start version 7.2 and mean separation was done using least significant difference (LSD0.05). Studies on the root nematodes of Musa spp. in Nsukka Agro-ecological zone of Enugu state, Nigeria, was carried out in sixteen towns located in this zone. The study involved collecting data on the distribution, incidence and abundance of nematode parasites on Musa spp., generating information on geo-physical, agricultural and historical data in the study area, examining nematode egg mass burden in Musa spp. roots and determining the physico-chemical properties of the soil as well as evaluating thier relationships with nematode density. This was obtained through questionnaire admistration to the farmers and root sample collection from sixteen towns in the study area. The collection of the root samples were done from tree villages in each town, three sites in each village and three sampling units in each site giving rise to 144 units each for Musa spp. (Banana and plantain). Both cluster and statified random sampling methods were used to collect root samples. The soil samples were used for physico-chemical analyses and nematode extraction. The Baerman’s funnel method was used to estimate the nematode population in the root and soil samples. Data generated were subjected to descriptive statistics involving two way analysis of variance, calculation of means and standard deviation, the least significant differences at 5% probability level. Regression analysis was performed with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Results of field survey showed that on the average, 67.51% of Musa spp. were grown in homestead while 24.65% were grown in farmlands, with 7.87% grown in the wild. Nematode parasites were evenly distributed with Meloidogyne spp and Radopholus similis as the most dominant and diverse species. Integrated management concept among other recommendations were proffered to reduce or probabily eliminate the spread of nematode parasite and inproved yield of the Musa spp. plant. Poster [PC-231] Introducción: Cinco inhibidores de tirosina cinasa (ITKs) están disponibles para el tratamiento de pacientes con leucemia mieloide crónica en fase crónica (LMC-FC). Analizamos las diferentes secuencias de ITKs utilizadas como terapia para la LMC-FC en un análisis a largo plazo en vida real. Métodos: En un análisis retrospectivo de cohortes, se incluyeron pacientes con LMC-FC tratados en la práctica clínica con diferentes ITKs en el Registro Español de LMC (RELMC) (17 hospitales de todo el país) entre 2000 y 2014. El objetivo principal del estudio fue describir la secuencia del tratamiento con ITKs en la práctica de la vida real y la última respuesta molecular profunda (DMR) (MR4, MR4.5 o transcrito indetectable) para cada esquema. Resultados: Nuestro análisis incluyó 862 pacientes con LMC en 1º FC tratados con ITKs en 1ª línea o después de interferón alfa. Datos demográficos demográficos: 517 H, 345 M, mediana de edad: 52 años (14-94a). Distribución del Índice Sokal (bajo 49% Inter 38% Alto 13%), Índice EURO (bajo 50% Inter 45% Alto 5%), Índice EUTOS (bajo 93% Alto 7%), Índice LT-EUTOS (bajo 68 % Inter 25% Alto 7%). Esquemas de tratamiento: la Tabla 1 resume todos los esquemas utilizados y la última respuesta molecular. Los pacientes se dividieron en 4 grupos según el tratamiento con ITKs. Grupo 1: solo tratados con Imatinib 394 p (45, 7%) Grupo 2: Imatinib y luego 2ºGITKs debido a intolerancia o fallo 170 p (19, 7%) (12 esquemas de tratamiento secuenciales diferentes con ITKs) Grupo 3: 2ºGITKs en 1ª línea 91 p (13 esquemas secuenciales) (10, 5%) Grupo 4: Interferón alfa y luego ITKs 207 p (24%) (9 esquemas secuenciales). La Figura 1 resume la evolución de diferentes tratamientos alrededor de los 14 años. Última respuesta molecular profunda: con una mediana de seguimiento de 82 meses (1-351 m) desde el diagnóstico, 77 m (1-311 m) desde el primer tratamiento y 70 m (1-191 m) desde el primer tratamiento con ITK. Las tasas de respuesta molecular profunda para cada grupo fueron (G1: DMR 65% MMR 13% No MMR 15%, G2: DMR 46% MMR 24% No MMR 17%, G3: DMR 62% MMR 13% No MMR 12%, G4: DMR 53% MMR 17% No MMR 18%). Supervivencia a largo plazo (SLP o SG): no se encontraron diferencias estadísticas entre los grupos de tratamiento, ya sea desde el diagnóstico, el primer tratamiento o el primer ITK. Alcanzar una respuesta profunda garantiza mejores resultados. Variables predictivas de respuesta: los índices SOKAL, EUTOS, EURO y LT-EUTOS continúan siendo útiles para predecir el resultado a largo plazo. Conclusiones: En el contexto de un registro multicéntrico basado en hospitales, el tratamiento con ITKs es muy variable, con un gran número de secuencias diferentes de ITKs. Con una mediana de seguimiento de 7 años la tasa de respuesta molecular profunda es aproximadamente del 60% en pacientes tratados con imatinib y que no necesitan cambio de ITKs, y en aquellos tratados en 1º línea con 2ºGITKs(a pesar de su corto seguimiento), pero parece menor en pacientes tratados con imatinib que necesitan cambiar a 2ºGITKs. Los resultados de supervivencia fueron similares para todos los grupos.
