Oak decline has been observed periodically in the different parts of the world. We conducted this study to evaluate the project control in this phenomenon. In this paper, the project control methods have proposed to be useful tools to deal with oak decline. The aim of the study is twofold: (i) define and schedule a set of activities and determine times for those activities in the Control of Forest Decline Project (CFDP) using the Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) method; (ii) apply the Critical Path Method (CPM) within the context on how to reduce the project time by increasing operating costs and crashing the activities. In crisis management, "golden time" is defined for doing activities and controlling the crisis, which has a greater role than other times. The analysis confirmed that the problem of forest decline is an ecological problem and its root lies in participatory management with the local community. We also found that the time crashing is not economically efficient to the CFDP except for two activities: public information and stakeholder analysis.

In an era of unprecedented industrialization and urbanization, sustainable forest management (including management and conservation measures) are particularly essential. In this context, the criteria and indicators are considered as means for defining, monitoring and assessment of forest sustainability. However, the existing database of research on such criteria and indicators in Iran is still limited. Hence, this study aims at defining a set of criteria and indicators in an example of Kalgachi local system, Chaharmahal-va-Bakhtiari province. This research was performed in several stages using different methods. In the first stage, socio-economic indicators of the Near East Process were prioritized by questionnaires to adapt the regional conditions. The indicators were further compared pair wise using further questioners. In the last step, a set of expert interviews, field studies, local community survey and document reviews in related organizations within the study area were conducted to determine the criteria and indicators. Based on the results, the finally-selected socio-economic indicators based on expert’s opinions and forest-dependent communities included the reduction in the number of interferences to forest areas, improvement of livelihood of forest-dependent communities, cooperation of local communities with equal rights (e.g. in number of groups and man/women share) and cooperation on agricultural development and conditions.

Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) means management of forest resources that consideration the needs of the current generation without risking ability of future generations to attain their needs. Evaluation of SFM needs to design a feedback information system to monitoring of forest resources. In this research, sustainability indicators based on the SMART&D framework were prepared in Tange-Solak local area in Zagros forest, Iran. Based on this, 7 indicators of ecosystem features were provided for evaluation of SFM. Here, Sustainability Index (SI) was used in evaluating SFM via fuzzy membership function. The results reveal that, Forest SI was eventually obtained as 0.15. This number (0.15) was obtained from the Fuzzy approach used in this study for an SI value far lower for forest sustainability compared to the number 1 (maximum value). The aim of this study was to determine the most impotent Criteria and Indicators (C&I) in Tange Solak watershed of Kohgiloye va Boyerahmad province, for sustainable forest management. Determining the most important C&I, simplifies the forest control process. For this purpose, using the judgmental sampling method and questioner based on Likert scale, at first step the most important criteria and at second step the preference of key indicators were determined. At third step, using the Pressure-State-Response (PSR) framework, led to determine the most important responses for sustainable management indicators. The results showed that the extent of forest resources, law-organization framework and role of conservation are the most impotent criteria for sustainable management at the studied site. Total forest area, the area under conservation management, eroded area and national forest policy are the key indicators for sustainable management in the proposed site. The results of PSR analysis shows that developing national forest policy, applying integrated management and reinvestment are the most important responses for key indicators.
