Background: Prenatal and postnatal depression (PND) is associated with adverse outcomes for mother, fetus, andchild. The aim of study was to examine the prevalence and risk factors of prenatal and postnatal depressive symptoms.Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional and hospital-based survey of 2305 pregnant women and post-partumwomen (18-48 years) that was registered in the Babol Pregnancy Mental Health Registry (BPMHR) database from June2020 to March 2021. Two questionnaires, including demographics and depression, were analyzed in this study. Also, theEdinburg Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to assess the depressive symptoms. Independent t test and theanalysis of variance were used to compare the means. Multiple logistic regressions were used to determine risk factors fordepressive symptoms.Results: According to the EPDS scale, the prevalence of depressive symptoms was 19.8% in the pregnant womangroup in comparison with the postpartum period (11.6%). Risk factors for antenatal depressive symptoms were parity(women with parity ≥ 4 vs. 1 parity, ß=1.808, P=0.020), two groups of gestational age (gestational age ≤12 weeks vs.28 weeks, ß=1.562 P=0.030) as well as (gestational age 21-27 weeks vs. 28 weeks (ß=1.586, P=0.033), and high-riskpregnancy (high-risk vs. low-risk pregnancy, ß=1.457, P=0.003). For postnatal depressive symptoms, none of the factorswere a significant risk.Conclusion: Prenatal and postnatal depressive symptoms should be screened, particularly for women in the first andsecond trimesters, with high parity, and those with a high-risk pregnancy, as recommended by the present study.

Abstract Background Psychological distress (PD) is a significant issue during pregnancy and postpartum, adversely affecting both children and mothers. This study aims to determine PD's prevalence and risk factors in a large Iranian population sample during pregnancy and postpartum. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the Babol Pregnancy Mental Health Registry (located in the north of Iran) between June 2020 and March 2021. A total of 2305 women were included, with 1639 during pregnancy and 666 during postpartum. Psychological distress was assessed using the Brief Symptoms Inventory (BSI-18), and data were analyzed using independent t-tests and multiple logistic regressions. Results The prevalence of psychological distress, defined by a cut-off score of BSI ≥ 13, was 19% during pregnancy and 15% during postpartum. Abstract A novel metal-doped Zn/Cl carbon quantum dots (Zn/Cl-CQDs) was developed successfully as ratiometric fluorescent probes for the sequential on-off-on detection of riboflavin, Cu2+ ion and thiamine. The excellent catalytic performance of the Zn/Cl-CQDs nanozyme serves as an ideal platform for sensitive detection of thiamine. Due to the addition of riboflavin to the Zn/Cl-CQDs, the blue emission peak of Zn/Cl-CQDs at 440 nm remains unaffected and used as an internal reference approach, while the green emission peak of riboflavin at 520 nm appeared and increased remarkably. Following the presence of Cu2+, a quenching blue fluorescence signal of Zn/Cl-CQDs was observed which resulted in consequent fluorescent ‘turn-off’ response toward Cu2+ ion. Finally, upon the addition of thiamine to the above solution under alkaline condition, the blue emission of Zn/Cl-CQDs was gradually recovered. The prepared Zn/Cl-CQDs could act as a nanozyme catalyst for directly catalyzing the oxidation of non-fluorescent substrate of thiamine to produce highly fluorescent substrate of thiochrome. As a result, the blue fluorescence emission peak at 440 nm was recovered. Eventually, the sequential detection properties of ratiometric probes for riboflavin, Cu2+ ion and thiamine were successfully applied in VB2 tablets, drinking water and VB1 tablet with good recoveries of 96.21%, 98.25% and 98.44%, respectively.

There is an increasing concern over environmental pollution because, over the course of the recent decades. Among the heavy metals lead, chrome and arsenic are more toxic to humans. Because of heavy metals’ toxicity to the environment and humans, they are considered important environmental pollutants. These pollutants due to their non-biodegradable, high toxicity are regarded as custodians of the health of the society. Heavy metals are systemic poisons and by a specific effect on the nerves, carcinogenesis can cause death. These poison by disrupting in the nervous system and interfere with neurotransmitters; the immune system can cause horrible effects on human health. The aim of this study was to determine the health and environmental effects of heavy metals with an emphasis on cadmium, lead, and arsenic. To do this review study, previous research conducted by the authors and a review of texts from other authoritative scientific sources have been used. Due to the destructive and harmful effects of toxic elements of heavy metals on humans and other living organisms, their removal from wastewater is inevitable. For this reason, in order to implement the regulations, it is necessary that before discharging sewage into the environment, their heavy metals treated to the standard limit.

Background: Leachate contains toxic and non-biodegradable substances that are not easily treated by conventional treatment methods. This study investigated the effect of pH, current density, and reaction time parameters on the removal of cyanide (CN-), nitrate (NO3-), turbidity, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) from leachate by electrocoagulation process. Methods: This study was an experimental one with direct current using four parallel bipolar aluminum electrodes with 90% purity. The length, width, and thickness of the electrodes were 5 cm, 10 cm, and 2 mm, respectively. There were 6 holes with a diameter of 0.7 cm on each of the electrodes. The samples were prepared from the old leachate of solid waste landfill in Ghaemshahr, Iran. Results: In this study, at a current density of 33 mA/cm2 and a time of 60 minutes, the optimum removal efficiency of cyanide (100 %) was obtained at pH 5.5 and pH 10. Moreover, the maximum removal of nitrate (99.65 %) and turbidity (86.41 %) were at pH 5.5 and pH 8.3, respectively and the highest removal efficiency of COD (83.14 %) was obtained at pH 10. Conclusion: The results showed that the removal of cyanide, nitrate, turbidity, and COD increases with increasing current density and reaction time. Due to the proper removal of nitrate and cyanide from leachate by electrocoagulation, nitrate and cyanide amounts were less than the allowable contamination level. Based on the results, electrocoagulation is considered an efficient and effective method for removing nitrate and cyanide from old leachate of municipal solid wastes.

This study introduces the development of a novel bio-nano composite via the dispersion of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) in epoxy. The surface of cellulose nanofibers was functionalized using a two-step chemical treatment to enhance dispersion. The interfacial characteristics of CNF were improved using alcohol/acetone treatments. The modified CNF (M-CNF) demonstrated enhanced compatibility and improved dispersion in the epoxy matrix as evidenced by scanning electron microscopy. Based on the analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns, M-CNF did not disturb the crystalline phases at the interface. The results of mechanical testing showed that M-CNF worked as a reinforcing agent in the bio-nano composite. The flexural modulus increased from 1.4 to 3.7 GPa when M-CNF was introduced. A similar trend was observed for tensile strength and impact resistance. The optimum performance characteristics were observed at M-CNF of 0.6%. At higher dosages, some agglomeration was observed, which weakened the interfacial properties. This study promotes sustainability and resource conservation while offering CNF as a sustainable reinforcing agent to develop bio-nano composites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a widely utilized method for treating the infertile couples. The aim of the present study was to determine the pregnancy and abortion rates after IUI and to examine the relationship of sperm parameters with these rates. Methods: This retrospective study was performed on 911 infertile couples undergoing IUI treatment in Shahid Akbarabadi IVF Centre from May 2017 to May 2019. To evaluate the correlation of sperm parameters with the clinical pregnancy and abortion rates, odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) was calculated. Results: In this study, the pregnancy rate following IUI was 15.7% (143/911), and among women who achieved pregnancy, the abortion rate was 42.0% (60/143). According to the multiple logistic regression analysis, none of the sperm parameters was associated with the pregnancy rate. Couples with either male or female factor infertility etiologies were more likely to get pregnant than those with unexplained infertility. Regarding the abortion rate, multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that normal sperm count was related to a lower abortion rate (adjusted OR=0.25, 95% CI=0.07–0.91). Conclusion: The present study did not reveal a significant relationship between none of the sperm parameters and pregnancy rate after IUI treatment. However, among women who got pregnant, continuation of the pregnancy was associated with the normal sperm count. Furthermore, analysis of all semen parameters together in comparison to one parameter alone might be more accurate to predict pregnancy or abortion. Further prospective cohort studies with a large number of couples are required.

Background: Poor medication adherence may cause unfortunate consequences such as disease progression and even death, particularly in older adults. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of pillbox use on medication adherence among older adults with cardiovascular diseases. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted as a two-group randomized controlled trial in a clinic in Kerman, Iran in 2017. Participants included seventy patients who were randomly allocated to either a control or an intervention group. The patients in the intervention group were verbally educated to manage their medications using a pillbox for four consecutive weeks while their counterparts received their medications without the use of any drug reminders. Results: The mean score of all participants’ medication adherence was 4.02±2.19 at the beginning of the study. Medication adherence significantly improved in the intervention group during the study (P0.99). Finally, medication adherence was significantly better in the intervention group compared to the control group at the end of the study (P=0.001). Conclusion: In general, pillbox use can promote medication adherence in older adults with cardiovascular diseases thus it is recommended for improving medication adherence and minimizing the consequences of non-adherence.

Abstract The core shell nanostructure of magnetic polystyrene (PS@Fe3O4) was prepared and its physic-chemical properties were studied FT-IR, SEM, TEM, VSM and BET + BJH. The new adsorbent was applied in the dispersive solid phase extraction technique for measuring copper ions in water, Soil and Oyster samples. Analysis is carried out using a flame atomic absorption spectrometry system. Effective parameters on extraction efficiency, such as pH of extraction solution, sorbent dosage, contact time, concentration and volume of desorption eluent and desorption time were optimized using one at a time method. N2 adsorption-desorption experiment resulted in high BET surface area (32.002 m2 g−1) and large pore volume (0.1794 cm3 g−1) for PS@ Fe3O4 nanocomposite. Under the optimum conditions, a calibration curve within the range of 5–40 ng mL−1 with an appropriate coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.9946 was obtained. Preconcentration factor (PF) and limit of detection (LOD) were found to be 55 and 1.6 ng mL−1, respectively. The repeatability and reproducibility for three replicate measurements at the concentration of 25 ng mL−1 were 2.5%–1.4%, respectively. The Freundlich adsorption isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic model were consistent to experimental data in adsorption mechanism study. The maximum adsorption capacity was 19.56 mg g−1 for Cu (II). Finally, the efficiency of the method was investigated for analysis of the copper in environmental samples and good relative recoveries (RR%) were obtained within the range of 99.2% to 101.2%.

Objectives: Many epidemiologic studies have drawn considerations to the adverse effects of air pollutants like particulate matter 2.5 ((PM2.5) on human health. This study aimed to analyze the association between the air concentration of PM2.5 and the prevalence of diabetes in Mashhad. Materials and Methods: This ecological study assessed the relationship between PM2.5 level and diagnosed diabetes prevalence in the Mashhad metropolis by spatiotemporal analysis at the block level by data obtained from the Environmental Pollutants Monitoring Center and SINA electronic health records. The subgroup analysis was performed pursuant to age and gender. In addition, the kernel density estimation analysis and Pearson correlation were used to guesstimate the association between PM2.5 and diabetes mellitus. Results: A significant positive association was observed between PM2.5 concentrations and the prevalence of diabetes. The results of the kernel density estimation indicated that the R and S zones with the highest prevalence rates of diabetes are among the zones with the highest PM2.5 concentrations. Conclusions: In general, the results showed that long-time exposure to PM2.5 increases the prevalence of diabetes in Mashhad.
