This study evaluated the effect of supplementing IVM media with γ‐oryzanol (ORY), a nutraceutical derived from rice bran oil, on the development of bovine oocytes and hindering the compromising effect of redox imbalance. An in vitro model of the bovine cumulus‐oocyte complex was used for the evaluation of nuclear maturation and development. Antioxidant activity was investigated by assessing the level of ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) and GSH (glutathione) in oocytes and quantitative changes in gene expression in matured oocytes and their respective cumulus cells. ORY supplementation increased the proportion of MII oocytes, cleaved embryos, and total blastocysts (p <.05) and was linked to higher and lower levels of intracellular GSH and ROS, respectively (p <.05). The treated oocytes and their respective cumulus‐granulosa cells showed a modulation in the expression of genes related to apoptosis (downregulation of BAX and CHOP) and oxidative stress (upregulation of NRF2, CAT, and SOD). Also, relative upregulation of OCT‐4 and IGF2R in treated oocytes was concomitant with higher subsequent development in terms of cleavage and total blastocyst rates (p <.05). Based on our findings, it appears that ORY supplementation can improve the nuclear maturation and development of bovine oocytes into blastocysts and augment their enzymatic and non‐enzymatic antioxidant systems, maintaining the Redox balance and high enzymatic activity against ROS generation. This study was aimed at developing a type of slow‐release progesterone micro‐particles useable in a single intramuscular injection for estrus synchronization in non‐breeding season ewes. A total of 66 ewes were randomly assigned into four groups: CIDR (n = 16): exposed to intravaginal CIDR for 12 days, and three experimental groups, i.e., T100 (n = 16), T150 (n = 17) and T200 (n = 17), receiving a single intramuscular injection of 100, 150 and 200 mg slow‐release progesterone, respectively. Blood sampling was performed on all ewes at five different times, and the ELISA method measured progesterone levels. No significant differences were observed in progesterone levels among the groups in each sampling time. More than 90% of ewes in the CIDR, T100 and T150 groups and all those in T200 showed estrus behaviour, and the rate was not significantly different between groups. The difference in the mean interval from progesterone treatment to estrus was also insignificant. The parturition rate declined by increasing the dose of injected progesterone; although it was similar in CIDR and T100 groups, it decreased significantly in T150 and T200. Since our injectable progesterone formulation was successful in the induction and synchronization of estrus in ewes out of the breeding season, it can be applied as an alternative to the conventional progesterone containing intravaginal devices. Sheep show characteristics of phenotypic diversity and adaptation to diverse climatic regions. Previous studies indicated associations between copy number variations (CNVs) and climate-driven adaptive evolution in humans and other domestic animals. Here, we constructed a genomic landscape of CNVs (n = 39,145) in 47 old autochthonous populations genotyped at a set of high-density (600 K) SNPs to detect environment-driven signatures of CNVs using a multivariate regression model. We found 136 deletions and 52 duplications that were significantly (Padj. < 0.05) associated with climatic variables. These climate-mediated selective CNVs are involved in functional candidate genes for heat stress and cold climate adaptation (e.g., B3GNTL1, UBE2L3, and TRAF2), coat and wool-related traits (e.g., TMEM9, STRA6, RASGRP2, and PLA2G3), repairing damaged DNA (e.g., HTT), GTPase activity (e.g., COPG), fast metabolism (e.g., LMF2 and LPIN3), fertility and reproduction (e.g., SLC19A1 and CCDC155), growth-related traits (e.g., ADRM1 and IGFALS), and immune response (e.g., BEGAIN and RNF121) in sheep. In particular, we identified significant (Padj. < 0.05) associations between probes in deleted/duplicated CNVs and solar radiation. Enrichment analysis of the gene sets among all the CNVs revealed significant (Padj. < 0.05) enriched gene ontology terms and pathways related to functions such as nucleotide, protein complex, and GTPase activity. Additionally, we observed overlapping between the CNVs and 140 known sheep QTLs. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of two Se sources on the early lactation of native goats, on nutrient digestibility, as well as nitrogen and energy status of Iranian native goats. Twenty-one native goats aged, approximately 41 ± 9 months and having body weights of 46 ± 8 kg were selected for the experiment. The goats were randomly divided into three groups with an equal number of goats. One group was supplemented with Selemax 2000® as the organic selenium (OS), the second group received diluted sodium selenite as the inorganic selenium, while the third group received no supplementation and served as the control group (C). The results of this research showed that the selenium supplement did not have a significant effect on nutrient digestibility (apart from crude fat) (P > .05) but, the dry matter, organic matter and crude protein intake significantly increased. However, faecal N, urinary N, total N production and energy status were affected by the treatments (P < .05). It can be concluded that OS seems to be a better choice, considering the nitrogen and energy available for metabolism and its partition between milk production and deposit/mobilization within the body. The continuous advancement in genotyping technology has not been accompanied by the application of innovative statistical methods, such as multi-marker methods (MMM), to unravel genetic associations with complex traits. Although the performance of MMM has been widely explored in a prediction context, little is known on their behavior in the quantitative trait loci (QTL) detection under complex genetic architectures. We shed light on this still open question by applying Bayes A (BA) and Bayesian LASSO (BL) to simulated and real data. Both methods were compared to the single marker regression (SMR). Simulated data were generated in the context of six scenarios differing on effect size, minor allele frequency (MAF) and linkage disequilibrium (LD) between QTLs. These were based on real SNP genotypes in chromosome 21 from the Spanish Bladder Cancer Study. We show how the genetic architecture dramatically affects the behavior of the methods in terms of power, type I error and accuracy of estimates. Markers with high MAF are easier to detect by all methods, especially if they have a large effect on the phenotypic trait. A high LD between QTLs with either large or small effects differently affects the power of the methods: it impairs QTL detection with BA, irrespectively of the effect size, although boosts that of small effects with BL and SMR. We demonstrate the convenience of applying MMM rather than SMR because of their larger power and smaller type I error.
