Cereal based drinks e.g. soy drinks, rice drinks, almond drinks are getting more and more popular. Nowadays the variety of these drinks is enormous. The reasons for choosing these products vary. Some consumers are choosing them because of health reasons, others because of ethical reasons and some because of the taste. The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety analysed 60 cereal-based drinks in the year 2017. The samples of this report are a combination of food control samples (A-915-17 GMO – rice and rice products) and study samples. The aim of this report was to collect more data on these drinks. Especially concerning their contamination and their nutritional profile. The contaminants arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury, perchlorate, chlorate, mycotoxins, and the herbicide glyphosate were analysed in the AGES laboratories. Furthermore, nutrients and the products with fortified calcium and cyanocobalamin were analysed. Twenty-three rice drinks were tested, if they are genetically modified (A-915-17). Arsenic was not quantifiable in 31 out of 60 samples. The arsenic concentration of 3.75 μg/kg was the lowest concentration measured in a spelt drink whereas the concentration of 59.80 μg/kg detected in a wholegrain rice drink was the highest arsenic amount. Lead was in 6 out of 60 samples above the limit of quantification (LOQ). The measurements are in the range of 3.05 μg/kg (soy drink – vanilla) until 8.70 μg/kg (soy drink). Cadmium was determined in 44 samples out of 60. The results are in the range of 0.95 μg/kg (almond drink) – 12.90 μg/kg (soy drink). Mercury was not detected in quantifiable amounts in all 60 cereal based drinks. Perchlorate and Glyphosate were not measurable in these samples as well. Chlorate was in 28 out of 60 samples measurable. The analytical results are in the range of 12 μg/kg (soy drink) – 541 μg/kg (rice-almond drink). AGES performed in total 169 Mycotoxin analyses and none of them showed concentrations in determinable concentrations. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Im Jahr 2017 untersuchte die Agentur für Gesundheit und Ernährungssicherheit im Rahmen von Studienproben und der Schwerpunktaktion A-915-17 insgesamt 60 pflanzliche Milch-Alternativen (Soja-, Reis-, Hafer-, Mandeldrink …) auf verschiedene Parameter. Es wurden die Kontaminanten Arsen, Cadmium, Blei, Quecksilber, Perchlorat, Chlorat, die Mykotoxine (Schimmelpilzgifte) Ochratoxin, Aflatoxin, Deoxynivalenol, Fumonisin und Trichothecen sowie das Herbizid Glyphosat untersucht. Weiters wurden die Nährwerte und die Anreicherung von Calcium und Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) überprüft. Im Rahmen der Schwerpunktaktion wurden Reisgetränke auf genetisch veränderte Organismen getestet. Ziel dieser Untersuchungen war die Datensammlung und ein Mehrwertgewinn an Information dieser Lebensmittel, welche von bestimmten Zielgruppen konsumiert werden. Der Arsengehalt war in 31 von 60 Proben nicht bestimmbar. Der niedrigste Arsengehalt von 3,75 μg/kg wurde in einem Dinkeldrink gemessen und der Arsen-Maximalwert von 59,80 μg/kg wurde in einem Vollkornreisgetränk detektiert. Blei war in 6 von 60 Proben bestimmbar und die Messwerte liegen im Bereich von 3,05 μg/kg (Sojadrink Vanille) – 8,70 μg/kg (Sojadrink). Cadmium wurde in 44 von 60 Proben in bestimmbaren Mengen gemessen und die Messwerte liegen im Bereich von 0,95 μg/kg (Mandeldrink) – 12,90 μg/kg (Sojadrink). Quecksilber war in keiner der 60 pflanzlichen Milch-Alternativen bestimmbar. In allen 60 Proben waren Perchlorat und Glyphosat nicht bestimmbar. Chlorat war in 28 von 60 Proben bestimmbar. Die Messwerte liegen im Bereich von 12 μg/kg (Sojadrink) – 541 μg/kg (Reis-Mandeldrink). Es wurden insgesamt 169 Mykotoxin-Untersuchungen durchgeführt. Es konnten keine Mykotoxine in bestimmbaren Konzentrationen gemessen werden. Im Rahmen einer AGES Schwerpunktaktion wurden 23 Reisgetränke auf gentechnische Veränderungen überprüft. Es gab bei keiner Probe einen Hinweis auf gentechnische Veränderung. Die Nährstoffzusammensetzung von pflanzlichen Milch-Alternativen variiert je nach Rezeptur und ist unter anderem von der Art der verwendeten Rohstoffe (Hafer, Mandeln, Reis, Soja etc.), dem Zusatz von Zucker bzw. anderen süßenden Zutaten und der Anreicherung mit Vitaminen und Mineralstoffen abhängig.
