Abstract Background As China's "Internet + Health" initiative advances, the digital economy significantly influences the quality of medical and health services. However, there is a research gap concerning the digital economy's specific impacts, mechanisms, and marginal effects on these services. This gap impedes a comprehensive understanding of the digital economy's potential in healthcare. Aims This study aims to clarify the digital economy's impact mechanisms on medical and health services levels, offering a scientific foundation for more targeted and effective policy formulation, thereby fostering sustainable digital development in healthcare. Methods Utilizing panel data from China's 31 provinces (2011–2020), this paper employs the Spatial Durbin Model to analyze the spatial and marginal effects of the digital economy on healthcare service levels. To ensure analysis accuracy and robustness, the study refines the spatial weight matrix and addresses model endogeneity using the Generalized Spatial Two-Stage Least Squares method. Additionally, it examines regional disparities in the digital economy's impact through SDM and explores intermediary mechanisms and threshold effects using a mediation effect model and a panel threshold model. Results Findings indicate that the digital economy positively affects medical and health services in both local and neighboring regions, with variations across areas. The eastern region particularly benefits from the digital economy's enhancement of service levels, while the central and western regions see less impact. The digital economy enhances services by improving medical resource levels and promoting their coordinated development. However, this positive effect is moderated by the digital economy's and the region's economic development levels, with more pronounced impacts in regions with higher digital and economic development. Conclusions The digital economy plays a crucial role in improving medical and health services, and its full potential is beneficial for the industry's advancement and sustainability. Nonetheless, addressing the uneven digital economy development across regions is essential to ensure equitable benefits for all areas.

Abstract Pigs play a central role in human livelihoods in China, but a lack of systematic large-scale whole-genome sequencing of Chinese domestic pigs has hindered genetic studies. Here, we present the 1000 Chinese Indigenous Pig Genomes Project sequencing dataset, comprising 1011 indigenous individuals from 50 pig populations covering approximately two-thirds of China’s administrative divisions. Based on the deep sequencing (~25.95×) of these pigs, we identify 63.62 million genomic variants, and provide a population-specific reference panel to improve the imputation performance of Chinese domestic pig populations. Using a combination of methods, we detect an ancient admixture event related to a human immigration climax in the 13th century, which may have contributed to the formation of southeast-central Chinese pig populations. Analyzing the haplotypes of the Y chromosome shows that the indigenous populations residing around the Taihu Lake Basin exhibit a unique haplotype. Furthermore, we find a 13 kb region in the THSD7A gene that may relate to high-altitude adaptation, and a 0.47 Mb region on chromosome 7 that is significantly associated with body size traits. These results highlight the value of our genomic resource in facilitating genomic architecture and complex traits studies in pigs.

Abstract Introduction With the growing prevalence of anxiety symptoms among university students, self-control is an important potential influence. This study aims to understand the network structure of self-control and anxiety, and to identify the core symptoms within this network. It will provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and intervention of anxiety symptoms in university students. Method We used network analysis to study anxiety and self-control in 3,792 university students from six schools in Heilongjiang Province, China. We checked for linear connections in the networks using a restricted cubic spline. We conducted the analyses and made graphs using R software. Results (i) The total sample network showed that higher levels of self-control in university students were associated with lower anxiety levels and were validated by the restrictive cubic spline. (ii) There was the strongest negative correlation (edge weight = -0.42) between Without thinking (SC7) and Panic (A5), and the edge weight coefficients of this self-control component and anxiety symptoms were greater than those of other self-control components. (iii) Physical exertion (A6) and Scared (A7) were identified as the core symptoms of the overall network, with expected influence of 1.08 and 1.08 (Z-score). (iv) A significant difference was observed between the anxiety positive network structure and the total sample network structure, with the strongest positive correlation between Iron self-control (SC3) and Breathing difficulty (A2) (edge weight = 0.22), with the strongest negative correlation between Certain things (SC2) and Situations (A4) (edge weight = -0.35). (v) The self-control component Iron self-control (SC3) had only one positive edge in the rural network, and only two positive edges in not one child network. Conclusion The present study offered a new perspective on the relationship between self-control and anxiety using network analysis for the first time. The control component Without thinking (SC7) was an important concept influencing the negative correlation of anxiety, and Physical exertion (A6) and Scared (A7) were core symptoms in the total network. Heterogeneity analyses showed a tendency for the more self-controlled to be more anxious in the anxiety positive sample. These results may be a potential target for preventing and intervening anxiety in university students.

Objectives: Lack of physical activity has a critical effect on the physical and mental health of adolescents. This study examined the influence of family adversities on the longitudinal changes in physical inactivity among adolescents during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: The study used multi-wave data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, including 2590 Korean adolescents aged 12-14 years. The longitudinal trajectory of physical inactivity among adolescents and the effects of related factors were estimated using a latent growth modeling method. Results: Our results revealed a significant increase in physical inactivity among adolescents over time. At the onset of the pandemic, approximately one-seventh of Korean middle schoolers reported a lack of physical activity. However, 3 years later, during the quarantine, nearly one-fifth of these adolescents reported a significant increase in their physical inactivity. Initially, low level parental education was predictive of adolescents’ physical inactivity, but this effect diminished over time, becoming statistically insignificant by the end of the 3-year period. Moreover, the increase in physical inactivity over the 3 years was significantly influenced by parental rejection. Conclusions: These findings suggest that adolescents who experience parental rejection are more likely to report an increase in sedentary behaviors in contexts such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract Lipotoxicity is a well-established phenomenon that could exacerbate damage to islet β-cells and play a significant role in the development of type 2 diabetes, the underlying mechanisms of which, however, remain unclear. In lipotoxic conditions, secretagogin (SCGN), an EF-hand calcium-binding protein abundantly expressed in islets, is found to undergo downregulation. In light of this, we aim to explore the role of SCGN in lipotoxicity-induced β-cell injury. Our findings show that exposure to ox-LDL in vitro or long-term high-fat diets (HFD) in vivo decreases SCGN expression and induces pyroptosis in β-cells. Moreover, restoring SCGN partially reverses the pyroptotic cell death under ox-LDL or HFD treatments. We have observed that the downregulation of SCGN facilitates the translocation of ChREBP from the cytosol to the nucleus, thereby promoting TXNIP transcription. The upregulation of TXNIP activates the NLRP3/Caspase-1 pathway, leading to pyroptotic cell death. In summary, our study demonstrates that lipotoxicity leads to the downregulation of SCGN expression in islet β-cells, resulting in ChREBP accumulation in the nucleus and subsequent activation of the NLRP3/Caspase-1 pyroptotic pathway. Thus, administering SCGN could be a potential therapeutic strategy to alleviate β-cell damage induced by lipotoxicity in type 2 diabetes.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the survival outcomes of neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy (NARCT) for early breast cancer. Female patients ≤ 80 years old with unilateral T1-T4 invasive ductal breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and radiation therapy (RT) between 2006 and 2015 were enrolled from SEER database. Baseline differences in clinical and pathological characteristics were evaluated using chi-square test. The survival outcomes were estimated by Kaplan–Meier analysis and compared using Cox hazards models. The effects of baseline differences on survival outcome in patients treated with neoadjuvant radiation therapy (NART) and post-operation radiation therapy (PORT) were circumvented by propensity score matching (PSM). Altogether 14,151 patients receiving NAC and RT were enrolled, among whom 386 underwent NART. Based on a 1:4 PSM cohort, NART was an independent unfavorable prognostic factor for breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) and overall survival (OS) for the whole cohort. However, among patients receiving breast conserving surgery (BCS) (HR 1.029, P = 0.915 for BCSS; HR 1.003, P = 0.990 for OS) or implant-based immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) (HR 1.039, P = 0.921 for BCSS; HR 1.153, P = 0.697 for OS), those treated with NART had similar survival outcomes compared with patients treated with PORT. In conclusion, NARCT was a safe and feasible approach for patients undergoing BCS and IBR.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the significance of chemotherapy (CT) among metaplastic breast cancer (MpBC), and to compare the survival outcomes between triple negative MpBC (MpBC-TNBC) and triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC-TNBC). SEER database was indexed to identify female unilateral primary MpBC diagnosed from 2010 to 2017. Patients were classified into neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) with response (NAC-response), NAC-no response, adjuvant chemotherapy, and no CT. Breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) and overall survival (OS) was estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method and compared by log-rank test. Cox regression was used to evaluate the independent prognostic factors. A 1:4 propensity score matching method was adopted to balance baseline differences. Altogether 1186 MpBC patients were enrolled, among them 181 received NAC, 647 received adjuvant CT and 358 did not receive any CT. Chemotherapy was an independent favorable prognostic factor. NAC-response and adjuvant CT had a significant or an obvious trend of survival improvement compared with NAC-no response or no CT. MpBC-TNBC was an independent unfavorable prognostic factor compared with IDC-TNBC. Among them, there was significant or trend of survival improvement among all TNBCs receiving NAC or adjuvant CT compared with no CT. Chemotherapy was of important significance to MpBC prognosis and should be integrated in comprehensive treatment for MpBC.

Introduction Cardiometabolic disease (CMD) is the leading cause of mortality in China. A healthy diet plays an essential role in the occurrence and development of CMD. Although the Chinese heart-healthy diet is the first diet with cardiovascular benefits, a healthy dietary pattern that fits Chinese food culture that can effectively reduce the risk of CMD has not been found.Methods/design The study is a single-centre, open-label, randomised controlled trial aimed at evaluating the effect of the Reducing Cardiometabolic Diseases Risk (RCMDR) dietary pattern in reducing the risk of CMDs in people with dyslipidaemia and providing a reference basis for constructing a dietary pattern suitable for the prevention of CMDs in the Chinese population. Participants are men and women aged 35–45 years with dyslipidaemia in Tianjin. The target sample size is 100. After the run-in period, the participants will be randomised to the RCMDR dietary pattern intervention group or the general health education control group with a 1:1 ratio. The intervention phases will last 12 weeks, with a dietary intervention of 5 working days per week for participants in the intervention group. The primary outcome variable is the cardiometabolic risk score. The secondary outcome variables are blood lipid, blood pressure, blood glucose, body composition indices, insulin resistance and 10-year risk of cardiovascular diseases.Ethics and dissemination The study complies with the Measures for Ethical Review of Life Sciences and Medical Research Involving Human Beings and the Declaration of Helsinki. Signed informed consent will be obtained from all participants. The study has been approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University (approval number: KY2023020). The results from the study will be disseminated through publications in a peer-reviewed journal.Trial registration number Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2300072472).

This paper explores linear waves’ instability in nonuniform complex plasmas with dust size distribution and non-adiabatic dust charge fluctuation. For this purpose, the dispersion relation is obtained with the aid of linearizing the hydrodynamic equations governing the properties of linear waves. The contribution of physical parameters such as inhomogeneity, nonadiabatic dust charge fluctuation, and dust size distribution to the features of dust acoustic waves is examined at great length. The numerical results show that the present research results are very important in the phenomenon of space astrophysical and experimental plasmas.

The analysis of critical states during fracture of wood materials is crucial for wood building safety monitoring, wood processing, etc. In this paper, beech and camphor pine are selected as the research objects, and the acoustic emission signals during the fracture process of the specimens are analyzed by three-point bending load experiments. On the one hand, the critical state interval of a complex acoustic emission signal system is determined by selecting characteristic parameters in the natural time domain. On the other hand, an improved method of b_value analysis in the natural time domain is proposed based on the characteristics of the acoustic emission signal. The K-value, which represents the beginning of the critical state of a complex acoustic emission signal system, is further defined by the improved method of b_value in the natural time domain. For beech, the analysis of critical state time based on characteristic parameters can predict the "collapse" time 8.01 s in advance, while for camphor pines, 3.74 s in advance. K-value can be analyzed at least 3 s in advance of the system "crash" time for beech and 4 s in advance of the system "crash" time for camphor pine. The results show that compared with traditional time-domain acoustic emission signal analysis, natural time-domain acoustic emission signal analysis can discover more available feature information to characterize the state of the signal. Both the characteristic parameters and Natural_Time_b_value analysis in the natural time domain can effectively characterize the time when the complex acoustic emission signal system enters the critical state. Critical state analysis can provide new ideas for wood health monitoring and complex signal processing, etc.

Despite the unprecedented success of super-resolution (SR) development for natural images, achieving hyperspectral image (HSI) SR with rich spectral characteristics remains a challenging task. Typically, HSI SR is accomplished by fusing low-resolution HSI (LR HSI) with the corresponding high-resolution multispectral image (HR MSI). However, due to the significant spectral difference between MSI and HSI, it is difficult to retain the spatial characteristics of MSI during image fusion. In addition, the spectral response function (SRF) used for simulating MSI is often unknown or unavailable in hyperspectral remote sensing images, further complicating the problem. To address the above issues, a local-aware coupled network (LCNet) is proposed in this paper. In LCNet, the SRF and point spread function (PSF) are adaptively learned in the primary stage of the network to address the issue of unknown prior information. By coupling two reconstruction networks, LCNet effectively preserves both the texture details of MSI and the spectral characteristics of HSI. Furthermore, the spatial local-aware block selectively emphasizes the texture features of MSI. Experimental results on three publicly available HSIs demonstrate whether the proposed LCNet is superior to the state-of-the-art methods with respect to both stability and quality.

Al–Cu–Mg–Fe–Ni alloys are widely used in high temperature structural materials such as automobile engine cylinders and pistons, owning to their good high temperature mechanical properties. In this work, the effect of Fe and Ni content, solution treated, and aged process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al–Cu–Mg–Fe–Ni alloys were investigated by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), hardness and tensile tests. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and high–resolution TEM were used to determine the existence of S phase and Al9FeNi precipitates. The solution treatment followed by aged process is found to be of significant benefit in improving the tensile properties both at room– and elevated temperature.

Abstract Background Diet and chronic inflammation might play a major role in the pathogenesis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). In addition, peripheral blood leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn) might mediate the relationship between inflammation and MCI risk. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate whether inflammatory potential of diet assessed by dietary inflammatory index (DII), chronic inflammation, peripheral blood LTL, and mtDNAcn were associated with the risk of MCI. Results A population-based cohort study was conducted with a total of 2944 participants. During a median follow-up of 2 years, 438 (14.90%) individuals were new-onset MCI. After adjustment, a higher score of DII (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.056, 95% CI: 1.005, 1.109), a higher log systemic immune inflammation index (SII) (HR: 1.333, 95% CI: 1.089, 1.633) and log system inflammation response index (SIRI) (HR: 1.487, 95% CI: 1.024, 2.161) predicted elevated risk of MCI. An increased mtDNAcn (HR: 0.843, 95% CI: 0.712, 0.997), but not LTL, predicted a decreased risk of MCI. Negative associations of log SII with LTL (β:-0.359, 95% CI: -0.445, -0.273) and mtDNAcn (β:-0.048, 95% CI: -0.090, -0.006) were found. Additionally, negative associations of log SIRI with LTL (β: -0.035, 95% CI: -0.052, -0.017) and mtDNAcn (β:-0.136, 95% CI: -0.216, -0.056) were also found. Path analysis suggested that SIRI, LTL, and mtDNAcn, in series, have mediation roles in the association between DII score and MCI risk. Conclusions Higher DII, SII, and SIRI might predict a greater risk of MCI, while a longer LTL and an increased mtDNAcn were linked to a reduced risk of MCI among the older population. LTL and mtDNAcn could play mediation roles in the association between DII and MCI risk.

IntroductionStrawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) holds a preeminent position among small fruits globally due to its delectable fruits and significant economic value. However, strawberry cultivation is hampered by various plant diseases, hindering the sustainable development of the strawberry industry. The occurrence of plant diseases is closely linked to imbalance in rhizosphere microbial community structure.MethodsIn the present study, a systematic analysis of the differences and correlations among non-culturable microorganisms, cultivable microbial communities, and soil nutrients in rhizosphere soil, root surface soil, and non-rhizosphere soil of healthy and diseased strawberry plants affected by root rot was conducted. The goal was to explore the relationship between strawberry root rot occurrence and rhizosphere microbial community structure.ResultsAccording to the results, strawberry root rot altered microbial community diversity, influenced fungal community composition in strawberry roots, reduced microbial interaction network stability, and enriched more endophytic-phytopathogenic bacteria and saprophytic bacteria. In addition, the number of bacteria isolated from the root surface soil of diseased plants was significantly higher than that of healthy plants.DiscussionIn summary, the diseased strawberry plants changed microbial community diversity, fungal species composition, and enriched functional microorganisms significantly, in addition to reshaping the microbial co-occurrence network. The results provide a theoretical basis for revealing the microecological mechanism of strawberry root rot and the ecological prevention and control of strawberry root rot from a microbial ecology perspective.

Performing joint genomic predictions for multiple breeds (MBGP) to expand the reference size is a promising strategy for improving the prediction for limited population sizes or phenotypic records for a single breed. This study proposes an MBGP model—mbBayesAB, which treats the same traits of different breeds as potentially genetically related but different, and divides chromosomes into independent blocks to fit heterogeneous genetic (co)variances. Best practices of random effect (co)variance matrix priors in mbBayesAB were analyzed, and the prediction accuracies of mbBayesAB were compared with within-breed (WBGP) and other commonly used MBGP models. The results showed that assigning an inverse Wishart prior to the random effect and obtaining information on the scale of the inverse Wishart prior from the phenotype enabled mbBayesAB to achieve the highest accuracy. When combining two cattle breeds (Limousin and Angus) in reference, mbBayesAB achieved higher accuracy than the WBGP model for two weight traits. For the marbling score trait in pigs, MBGP of the Yorkshire and Landrace breeds led to a 6.27% increase in accuracy for Yorkshire validation using mbBayesAB compared to that using the WBGP model. Therefore, considering heterogeneous genetic (co)variance in MBGP is advantageous. However, determining appropriate priors for (co)variance and hyperparameters is crucial for MBGP.

The double-hole rice vacuum seed meter is critical equipment for the planting precision of rice direct seeding. The effects of shaped holes and seed disturbance on the precision of rice bunch planting were investigated to improve the precision of bunch planting with the double-hole rice vacuum seed meter. A test bench with the rice vacuum seed meter was set up to analyze the trends in the quality of feed index, miss index, and multiple index of seed meters with different shaped holes at different speeds and vacuum pressures. Based on the optimal hole structure, different seed disturbance structures were designed to investigate the influence of the seed disturbance structure on the precision of bunch planting. A multiple linear regression model was established for the relationship between the disturbance structure, vacuum pressure, rotational speed, and the precision of bunch planting. Discrete element numerical simulation experiments were carried out to analyze the effect of disturbance structures on seeds. The planting precision of the seed meter with the shaped hole was significantly higher than that of the seed meter without the shaped hole while the shaped hole B was the optimum structure. Disturbance structure affects the quality of feed index, multiple index rate, and miss index. The planting precision of the seed disturbance structure II was better than the other structures. At a speed of 60 rpm and vacuum pressures of 2.0 kPa, 2.4 kPa, and 2.8 kPa, the qualities of feed index of seed disturbance structure II were 90%, 91.11%, and 89.17%, respectively, and the miss indexes were 2.96%, 1.94%, and 1.57%, respectively. At high rotational speeds, the precision of rice bunch planting with the seed disturbance structure is better than that without the seed disturbance structure. In the simulation test, the seed velocity and total force magnitude of the meter without disturbance structures were less than those with the disturbed structure. Simulation experiments showed that the seed disturbance structure breaks up the stacked state of seeds. Research has shown that the shaped hole holds the seed in a stable suction posture, which helps to increase the seed-filling rate. Seed disturbance improves seed mobility, thereby enhancing the precision of bunch planting.

Background: Montelukast (MTK), a potent antagonist of cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1, has shown therapeutic promise for the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. Delirium, a common complication in critically ill patients, lacks effective treatment. This study aims to explore the impact of pre-intensive care unit (ICU) MTK use on in-hospital delirium incidence and, subsequent, prognosis in critically ill patients. Methods: A retrospective cohort study (n = 6344) was conducted using the MIMIC-IV database. After propensity score matching, logistic/Cox regression, E-value sensitivity analysis, and causal mediation analysis were performed to assess associations between pre-ICU MTK exposure and delirium and prognosis in critically ill patients. Results: Pre-ICU MTK use was significantly associated with reduced in-hospital delirium (OR: 0.705; 95% CI 0.497–0.999; p = 0.049) and 90-day mortality (OR: 0.554; 95% CI 0.366–0.840; p = 0.005). The association was more significant in patients without myocardial infarction (OR: 0.856; 95% CI 0.383–0.896; p = 0.014) and could be increased by extending the duration of use. Causal mediation analysis showed that the reduction in delirium partially mediated the association between MTK and 90-day mortality (ACME: −0.053; 95% CI −0.0142 to 0.0002; p = 0.020). Conclusions: In critically ill patients, MTK has shown promising therapeutic benefits by reducing the incidence of delirium and 90-day mortality. This study highlights the potential of MTK, beyond its traditional use in respiratory disease, and may contribute to the development of novel therapeutic strategies for delirium.

Abstract Background Primary adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of breast is rarely seen clinically. It is a special subtype of triple-negative breast cancer characterized by low expression of Ki-67, low malignant potential, slow progression and favorable prognosis. To date, treatment for this disease is controversial and no consensus is reached. We analyzed clinical manifestations and pathological characteristics of seven primary breast ACC cases and reported in combination with literature review to promote understanding, diagnosis and treatment of this disease. Case presentation We collected seven breast ACC cases pathologically diagnosed and treated in Department of breast surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University from January 2015 to December 2018. We organized and summarized the clinical, imaging, pathological and prognostic information and performed statistical analysis. The median age was 60 years (ranging from 54 to 64 years). Tumors of all patients were detected by immunohistochemistry. Molecular types were mostly triple negative (4/7), and Ki-67 expression was low (5/7). Lymph node metastases were absent in all patients received axillary lymph node surgery. Median follow-up time was 39 months (ranging from 25 to 68 months). There was no occurrence of relapse, distant metastasis or death. Conclusion Breast ACC is accompanied with favorable diagnosis, which is different from typical triple-negative breast cancer. Accurate diagnosis of ACC is particularly important.

To reduce the hazard of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) to the water ecology, the removal mechanism of SMX in wastewater was revealed. This study evaluated the PVDF/DA modified membrane in the membrane bioreactor (MBR) toward the removal and degradation of SMX as a recalcitrant micropollutant. A strategy of dopamine for surface modification of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane was proposed, and PVDF/DA membrane was prepared. Subsequently, PVDF/DA was run in the MBR for 60 days, and the reactor could produce good removal ability for SMX after certain acclimation. When the SMX concentration increased from 0.5 to 2 mg/L, liquid chromatography was used for analysis, and the results showed that the average removal rate was above 85%. The removal effect of COD and NH4+-N and the degree of membrane fouling were also evaluated. By measuring the extracellular polymer (EPS) content, the results showed that after 30 days of operation, the protein and polysaccharide contents in the cake layer on the surface of the PVDF membrane were 1.35 times and 1.49 times that of PVDF/DA membrane, respectively, and the PVDF/DA membrane could alleviate membrane fouling, thereby improving the service life of the membrane and reducing its operating cost. Finally, degradation by-products are evaluated to achieve deeper insight into the degradation mechanisms in the MBR process.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes are favored for their excellent properties. However, the inherent strong hydrophobicity of PVDF membranes limits their development in the field of water treatment. The objective of this study was to improve the performance of PVDF membranes using the self-polymerization, strong adhesion properties, and biocompatible effects of dopamine (DA). The PVDF/DA membrane modification conditions were simulated and optimized using response surface methodology (RSM), and the experimental design was used to investigate three main parameters. The results showed that the DA solution concentration of 1.65 g/L, the coating time of 4.5 h, the post-treatment temperature of 25°C, the contact angle decreased from 69° to 33.9°, and the pure water flux on the PVDF/DA membrane was higher than that on the original membrane. The absolute value of the relative error between the actual and predicted values is only 3.36 %. In the MBR parallel comparison test, compared with the PVDF/DA membrane, the total amount of extracellular polymers (EPS) of the PVDF membrane increased by 1.46 times and the polysaccharide increased by 1.56 times, which further showed that the PVDF/DA modified membrane had the excellent anti-pollution ability. Through Alpha diversity analysis, the biodiversity detected on PVDF/DA membranes was higher than that of PVDF membranes, which further proved its good bio-adhesion ability. These findings could offer a reference for the hydrophilicity, antifouling, and stability of PVDF/DA membranes, which would establish the foundation for the comprehensive applications in MBR.

Objective To study the level of occult hepatitis B virus methylation and replication related genes, and to explore the effect of the former on the latter. Methods The cases in control group (healthy control, n=3), occult hepatitis B group (occult HBV group, n=3) and hepatitis B group (HBV group, n=3) were detected by Illumina methylation 850k chip. The difference analysis, GO analysis and KEGG analysis were carried out. The methylation and virus replication related genes DNMT1, DNMT2, Dnmt3a and ZHX2 were screened for RT-PCR. Results The methylation level of occult HBV group and HBV group was significantly higher than that of the control group. Difference analysis showed that there were 1 050 differential methylation sites in occult HBV group with the methylation level greater than non-methylation level, and 1 340 differential methylation sites as the opposite compared with the control group. In HBV group, there were 1 008 differential methylation sites with methylation level greater than non-methylation level, and 1 242 differential methylation sites as the opposite. Go analysis showed that compared with the control group, the differential gene expression in occult HBV group and HBV group was significantly related to many anabolic processes in biological process (BP), cell composition (CC) and molecular function (MF). The enrichment analysis of KEGG pathway between the control group and the occult HBV group showed that the differential genes were mainly involved in adhesion junction, basal cell carcinoma, endometrial carcinoma, EB virus infection, hepatocellular carcinoma and other signal pathways. The enrichment analysis of KEGG pathway in occult HBV group and HBV group showed that the differential genes were mainly involved in AMPK signal pathway, cell cycle, endometrial cancer, hepatitis C, hepatocellular carcinoma and other signal pathways. DNMT1 and DNMT3a in occult HBV group and HBV group were significantly higher while ZHX2 was significantly lower than those in control group. Conclusion The methylation level of occult HBV group and HBV group increased significantly while ZHX2 decreased significantly. Hypermethylation inhibited the expression of ZHX2 and changed the replication of hepatitis B virus. Hepatitis B virus DNA methylation provides a theoretical basis for the replication mechanism of hepatitis B virus and a new method for the treatment of hepatitis B virus.

Abstract The nondestructive testing technology of generated acoustic emission (AE) signals for wood is of great significance for the evaluation of internal damages of wood. To achieve more accurate and adaptive evaluation, an AE signals classification method combining the empirical mode decomposition (EMD), discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) classifier is proposed. Five features (entropy, crest factor, pulse factor, margin factor, waveform factor) are selected for classification because they are more sensitive to the uncertainty, complexity, and non-linearity of AE signals generated during wood fracture. The three-point bending load damage experiment was implemented on sample wood of beech and Pinus sylvestris to generate original AE signals. Evaluation indexes (precision, accuracy, recall, F1-score) were adopted to assess the classification model. The results show that the ensemble classification accuracies of two tree species reach 94.58% and 90.58%, respectively. Moreover, compared with the results of the original AE signal, the accuracy of the AE signal processed by the methods proposed is increased by 27.68%. It indicates that the EMD and DWT signal processing methods and selected features improve the classification accuracy, and this automatic classification model has good AE signal recognition performance.

Abstract The application of cells as carriers to encapsulate chemotherapy drugs is of great significance in antitumor therapy. The advantages of reducing systemic toxicity, enhancing targeting and enhancing the penetrability of drugs to tumor cells make it have great potential for clinical application in the future. Many studies and advances have been made in the encapsulation of drugs by using erythrocytes, white blood cells, platelets, immune cells and even tumor cells. The results showed that the antitumor effect of cell encapsulation chemotherapy drugs was better than that of single chemotherapy drugs. In recent years, the application of cell-based vectors in cancer has become diversified. Both chemotherapeutic drugs and photosensitizers can be encapsulated, so as to achieve multiple antitumor effects of chemotherapy, photothermal therapy and photodynamic therapy. A variety of ways of coordinated treatment can produce ideal results even in the face of multidrug-resistant and metastatic tumors. However, it is regrettable that this technology is only used in vitro for the time being. Standard answers have not yet been obtained for the preservation of drug-loaded cells and the safe way of infusion into human body. Therefore, the successful application of drug delivery technology in clinical still faces many challenges in the future. In this paper, we discuss the latest development of different cell-derived drug delivery systems and the challenges it will face in the future.

Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) is a lethal complication of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with rapid deterioration and poor prognosis. It has no standard treatment for epidermal growth factor receptor mutation (EGFRm) NSCLC, and improving the clinical outcomes for patients with LM has become an urgent problem in clinical treatment. Both almonertinib and bevacizumab are capable of crossing the blood–brain barrier with comparable central nervous system effectiveness. To date, the almonertinib treatment in combination with bevacizumab in EGFRm NSCLC with LM has not been studied. We herein present five cases to further evaluate the effectiveness and tolerability of almonertinib in combination with bevacizumab for patients with EGFRm NSCLC and LM. For the first time, we report that almonertinib plus bevacizumab can not only effectively improve the neurological symptoms caused by LM but also prolong the survival time of patients with limited and controllable side effects, which provided a novel therapeutic approach for LM from EGFRm NSCLC.

BackgroundBreast cancer is the most common malignant tumor among women worldwide, and breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs) are believed to be the source of tumorigenesis. New findings suggest that small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) play a significant role in tumor development.MethodsThe Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Kaplan–Meier survival analysis were used to demonstrate expression and survival of SNORA38 signature. In situ hybridization (ISH) and immunohistochemical (IHC) were conducted to analyze the correlation between SNORA38 and stemness biomarker in 77 BC samples. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) was performed to investigate the mechanisms related to SNORA38 expression in BC. Real-time qPCR was employed to evaluate the expression of SNORA38 in breast cancer cell lines.ResultsIn the public database and patients’ biopsies, SNORA38 was significantly up-regulated in breast cancer. Furthermore, the expression of SNORA38 was significantly correlated with tumor size, lymph node metastasis, and TNM stage, among which tumor size was an independent factor for SNORA38 expression. Higher SNORA38 expression was associated with shorter overall survival (OS). Meanwhile, SNORA38 was positively associated with the stem cell marker OCT-4, which suggested that SNORA38 might be related to breast cancer stemness.ConclusionsSNORA38 is an important carcinogenic snoRNA in breast cancer and might be a prognostic biomarker for breast cancer.

Increasing evidence indicated that probiotics can be effective in improving behaviors similar to depression and anxiety disorders. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear, as is the effects of single vs. combined probiotics on depression and anxiety. This study aimed to determine whether combined probiotics could attenuate depressive-like and anxiety-like behavior induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) and its potential mechanisms. Rats underwent CUMS treatment and then administered Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 (HN001) or Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis HN019 (HN019), alone or in combination. Levels of neurotransmitters, inflammatory factors, and the gut microbiota were measured. HN001 and (or) HN019 treatment improved depressive-like and anxiety-like behavior in rats, including increased moving distance and exploratory behavior (p < 0.05). In addition, altered gut microbiota structure induced by CUMS was amended by HN001 and/or HN019 (p < 0.05). HN001 and/or HN019 intervention also remarkably normalized levels of 5-HT, DA, NE, HVA, DOPAC, HIAA, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-18 and IL-1β in CUMS rats (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the effects of combined probiotics on decreasing inflammation and improved gut microbiota (Chao1 index and ACE index, p < 0.05) were superior to the single probiotics. Moreover, spearman analysis showed a certain correlation between the different microbiota, such as Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Verrucomicrobias, Proteobacterias and Actinobacterias, and inflammation and neurotransmitters. These findings suggested that CUMS induced depressive and anxiety-like behaviors can be alleviated by the combination of probiotics, which was possibly associated with the alterations in the gut microbiota composition and increased neurotransmitters and decreased inflammatory factors.

BackgroundAnthracyclines play an important role in the treatment of breast cancer (BC) and other malignant tumors. However, accompanied side-effects are non-ignorable. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to determine the risk factors for anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity (ACT), so as to identify high-risk patients.MethodsThe search for literature was conducted in PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Embase and Web of science. Records were selected with inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. The newcastle-ottawa scale (NOS) was used to assess the quality of literature, and Review Manager 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis.ResultsThirteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Meta-analysis indicated that risk factors for ACT were use of trastuzumab (odds ratio [OR]: 2.84, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.49-3.22, p < 0.00001), cumulative dose of anthracyclines (OR: 1.45, 95%CI: 1.28-1.65, p < 0.00001), hypertension (OR: 2.95, 95%CI: 1.75-4.97, p < 0.0001), diabetes mellitus (DM) (OR: 1.39, 95%CI: 1.20-1.61, p < 0.0001), tumor metastasis (OR: 1.91, 95%CI: 1.17-3.11, p = 0.009) and coronary heart disease (CAD) (OR: 2.17, 95%CI: 1.50-3.15, p < 0.0001). In addition, our analysis revealed that body mass index (BMI) had no effect on ACT (OR: 1.18, 95%CI: 0.98-1.43, p = 0.08).ConclusionsPatients with high risk for ACT can be identified by these factors. ABSTRACT Bacillus amyloliquefaciens Ba13 is a plant beneficial bacterium isolated from loessial soil with notable biological activity. This study clarified potential mechanisms underlying the plant growth-promoting and antipathogenic effects of strain Ba13. A pot experiment was used to verify the plant growth-promoting effects of strain Ba13 on tomato, and the antipathogenic activity was tested in petri dishes. The underlying mechanisms were explored based on whole-genome sequencing of strain Ba13 and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) detection of plant hormones and biosynthetic intermediates. The results showed that exposure to strain Ba13 promoted tomato plant growth significantly. Compared with control treatment, bacterial treatment increased plant height and fresh weight by 10.98% and 20.15%, respectively, at 28 days after inoculation. Strain Ba13 exhibited antagonistic activity against all eight plant pathogens tested. The 3,861,210-bp genome of strain Ba13 was predicted to encode antibiotics (e.g., surfactin, bacillaene, bacillomycin D, bacilysin, and bacillibactin) and volatile gaseous compounds (e.g., 2,3-butanediol and acetoin). Genes were also predicted to encode extracellular phytase and β-glucanase that are secreted through the secretory (Sec) system. Strain Ba13 could synthesize indole-3-acetic acid through the indole-3-pyruvic acid pathway. The results of this study indicate that B. amyloliquefaciens Ba13 has multiple effects on tomato plants and associated microorganisms, directly or indirectly promoting plant growth and controlling plant diseases. IMPORTANCE Microbial agents are considered the optimal alternative for chemical agents. Exploring the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of microbial agents is essential for rational applications in the field. In this study, we report a functional bacterial strain, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens Ba13, which exhibited plant growth-promoting and antipathogenic effects. The whole genome of strain Ba13 was sequenced, and functional genes of interest were predicted. Strain Ba13 could synthesize indole-3-acetic acid through the indole-3-pyruvic acid pathway.

Nanostructuring of metals is nowadays considered as a promising strategy towards the development of materials with enhanced electrochemical performance. Porous and fully dense CuNi films were electrodeposited on a Cu plate by electrodeposition in view of their application as electrocatalytic materials for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Porous CuNi film were synthesized using the hydrogen bubble template electrodeposition method in an acidic electrolyte, while fully dense CuNi were electrodeposited from a citrate-sulphate bath with the addition of saccharine as a grain refiner. The prepared films were characterized chemically and morphologically by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Rietveld analysis of the XRD data illustrates that both CuNi films have a nanosized crystallite size. Contact angle measurements reveal that the porous CuNi film exhibits remarkable superhydrophobic behavior, and fully dense CuNi film shows hydrophilicity. This is predominately ascribed to the surface roughness of the two films. The HER activity of the two prepared CuNi films were investigated in 1 M KOH solution at room temperature by polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique. Porous CuNi exhibits an enhanced catalysis for HER with respect to fully dense CuNi. The HER kinetics for porous film is processed by the Volmer–Heyrovsky reaction, whereas the fully dense counterpart is Volmer-limited. This study presents a clear comparison of HER behavior between porous and fully dense CuNi films.

Abstract Background Several studies have indicated that inflammatory markers were associated with the risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Serum folate was related to MCI as well as inflammation. However, no studies have investigated the association between inflammatory markers and MCI taking account of serum folate level in T2D patients. This study aimed to conduct a case-control study to evaluate the association between inflammatory markers and MCI taking account of serum folate level in Chinese patients with T2D. Methods This study consisted of 126 T2D patients (63 cases with MCI and 63 controls without MCI). Clinical parameters, serum folate, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were measured. Spearman correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the association between the inflammatory markers and the risk of MCI in T2D patients. Magnetic chitosan hydrogel has aroused immense attention in recent years due to their biomedical significance and magnetic responsiveness. Here, A new electrodeposition method is reported for the fabrication of a novel CuNi-based magnetic chitosan freestanding film (MCFF) in an acidic chitosan plating bath containing SDS-modified CuNi NPs. Contrary to chitosan’s anodic and cathodic deposition, which typically involves electrochemical oxidation, the synthetic process is triggered by coordination of chitosan with Cu and Ni ions in situ generated by the controlled surface dissolution of the suspended NPs with the acidic plating bath. The NPs provide not only the ions required for chitosan growth but also become entrapped during electrodeposition, thereby endowing the composite with magnetic properties. The obtained MCFF offers a wide range of features, including good mechanical strength, magnetic properties, homogeneity, and morphological transparency. Besides the fundamental interest of the synthesis itself, sufficient mechanical strength ensures that the hydrogel can be used by either peeling it off of the electrode or by directly building a complex hydrogel electrode. Its fast and easy magnetic steering, separation and recovery, large surface area, lack of secondary pollution, and strong chelating capability could lead to it finding applications as an electrochemical detector or adsorbent.

In this study, PZT (piezoelectric) actuators and PD control (PDs’ command line tool) method is selected to control the vibration of the flexible manipulator. The dynamic equations of the flexible manipulator system are established based on Lagrange principle. The control strategy of PZT actuators and joint control torque are designed. It is investigated by a Lyapunov approach that a combined scheme of PD feedback and command voltages applies to segmented PZT actuators. By comparison, only PD feedback control is also considered to control the flexible manipulator. The numerical simulations prove that the method of the designed PZT actuators’ control strategy and PD control is effective to compress the vibration of the flexible manipulator.

Abstract It is not known how total homocysteine (tHcy) levels change during the transition from acute stroke to post-stroke convalescence or whether tHcy changes occurring after the acute period are associated with recurrence of cerebro-cardiovascular events. Levels of tHcy were measured during acute ischemia and again after three months. Patients were followed for a median of 18 (range: 12–36) months. A total of 2800 patients who had at least two tHcy measurements were enrolled between February 2012 and June 2014; 2587 patients presented with ischemic stroke and 213 presented with cerebral hemorrhage. During the follow-up period, 220 (7.9%) patients experienced another ischemic event. After adjusting for additional cardiovascular risk factors, patients with the highest levels of tHcy (fourth quartile; >15.5 μmol/L) had a 1.76-fold increased risk of a recurrence (adjusted HR: 1.76, 95%CI: 1.11–3.08) as compared to patients with the lowest levels of tHcy (lowest quartile; ≤9.65 μmol/L). Additional analysis by subgroup indicated that this correlation was only significant for patients with large-artery atherosclerosis ischemia (adjusted HR: 2.00, 95%CI: 1.13–3.55). Elevated tHcy during the convalescent phase of acute stroke was independently associated with an increased risk of recurrent ischemic stroke, especially in those patients with large-vessel atherosclerosis ischemia.

Ni-based bimetallic films with 20 at.% and 45 at.% Cu and mesostructured surfaces were prepared by electrodeposition from an aqueous solution containing micelles of P123 triblock copolymer serving as a structure-directing agent. The pH value of the electrolytic solution had a key effect on both the resulting Cu/Ni ratio and the surface topology. The catalytic activity of the CuNi films toward hydrogen evolution reaction was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 1 M KOH electrolyte at room temperature. The Cu45Ni55 film showed the highest activity (even higher than that of a non-mesostructured pure Ni film), which was attributed to the Ni content at the utmost surface, as demonstrated by CV studies, as well as the presence of a highly corrugated surface.

We propose a novel two-layer error control code, combining error detection capability of rectangular codes and error correction capability of Hamming product codes in an efficient way, in order to increase cache error resilience for many core systems, while maintaining low power, area and latency overhead. Based on the fact of low latency and overhead of rectangular codes and high error control capability of Hamming product codes, two-layer error control codes employ simple rectangular codes for each cache line to detect cache errors, while loading the extra Hamming product code checks bits in the case of error detection; thus enabling reliable large-scale cache operations. Analysis and experiments are conducted to evaluate the cache fault-tolerant capability of various existing solutions and the proposed approach. The results show that the proposed approach can significantly increase Mean-Error-To-Failure (METF) and Mean-Time-To-failure (MTTF) up to 2.8×, reduce storage overhead by over 57%, and increase instruction per-cycle (IPC) up to 7%, compared to complex four-way 4EC5ED; and it increases METF and MTTF up to 133×, reduces storage overhead by over 11%, and achieves a similar IPC compared to simple eight-way single-error correcting double-error detecting (SECDED). The cost of the proposed approach is no more than 4% external memory access overhead.

Background/Aims. Low serum folate levels can alter inflammatory reactions. Both phenomena have been linked to Alzheimer’s disease (AD), but the effect of folic acid on AD itself is unclear. We quantified folate supplementation’s effect on inflammation and cognitive function in patients with AD over the course of 6 months. Methods. Patients newly diagnosed with AD (age > 60 years; n=121; mild to severe; international criteria) and being treated with donepezil were randomly assigned into two groups with (intervention group) or without (control group) supplemental treatment with folic acid (1.25 mg/d) for 6 months. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) was administered to all patients at baseline and follow-up, and blood samples were taken before and after treatment. We quantified serum folate, amyloid beta (Aβ), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), plasma homocysteine (Hcy), S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH), and the mRNA levels of presenilin (PS), IL-6, and TNFα in leukocytes.
