O uso de inseticidas mais tóxicos para uma praga do que a saúde natural pode favorecer o salvamento desses organismos benéficos. Este estudo teve como objetivos fisiológicos distanciadores de inseticidas de separações científicas para Vespidae Protonectarina sylveirae (Saussure, 1854) e Brachygastra lecheguana. (Latterille, 1824) e espessura de cutícula para avaliação da tolerância entre os 2 anos estes mesmos inseticidas. Como imersas foram folhas de milho (10 x 10 cm) em solução inseticida em dose (100%), subdose (50%) e água destilada (controle) por 5 segundos. Nós podemos ler as folhas e depois embalamos em placas de Petri.Como 20 vespas, por placa, receberam 10% de mel e as placas foram fechadas com tecido de organza fino e elastificadas. Após 24 horas, avaliamos uma porcentagem de vespas mortas. O inseticida alfa-cipermetrina foi altamente tóxico para P. sylveirae e B. lecheguana em dose (100%) e subdose (50%). Os inseticidas Novaluron, chlorantraniliprole, spinosad e indoxacarb foram pouco tóxicos para P. sylveirae e B. lecheguana. dose (100%) e subdose (50%). A alta toxicidade dos inseticidas metomil + novalurom, clorantraniliprole + lambda-cialotrina e deltametrina a P. sylveirae corresponde à menor espessura da cutícula.Portanto, os inseticidas novalurom, clorantraniliprole, spinosad e indoxacarb da selectividade fisiológica para P. sylveirae e B. lecheguana .

Climate change is already affecting life on Earth and mitigation measures must be taken, which require proper identification of the regions most vulnerable to these changes. This study assesses the impact of climate change on water availability (water surplus, water deficit and precipitation minus evapotranspiration) and climate classification across the Caatinga biome, located within the Brazilian semiarid region. To obtain the water surplus and water deficit, the water balance of Thornthwaite & Matther (1955) was applied considering the current scenario (historical series from 1961 to 2015); the optimistic scenario, considering the Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) for a radiative forcing of 4.5 W.m-2 (RCP4.5), i.e., considering a temperature increase of 1.5 °C and a reduction in rainfall from 15%; and pessimistic, considering a radiative forcing of 8.5 W.m-2 (RCP8.5), i.e. taking an increase in temperature of 4.0 °C and a reduction in rainfall from 20%. The results showed that the Caatinga was strongly impacted, especially in the pessimistic scenario, with no water surplus and a negative water balance. For the optimistic scenario, only a small portion presented a water-surplus and a positive water balance. Projections also showed that a large part of the Caatinga changed from semiarid to arid climate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study aimed to investigate the physiological response to CrossFit "workouts of the day" (WODs) based on two different structures of training session: 1) the "as many repetitions as possible" (AMRAP) "Cindy" and 2) the "round for time" (RFT) "Open 18.4" session. CrossFit athletes (11 men and 12 women) were divided into two groups: 1) one performing the WOD "Cindy" (GC) and 2) one performing the WOD "Open 18.4" (GO). Before, immediately after and 30 min after WODs, blood lactate (LAC), heart rate (HR) and systolic and diastolic blood pressures (SBP and DBP) were measured. A two-way ANOVA indicated differences in physiological responses between GC and GO. Both WODs increased HR to similar levels. Only GO significantly increased SBP immediately after exercise compared to the rest period ( p < 0.01), with no difference to GC. GO presented higher levels of LAC immediately after exercise compared to GC (15.8 ± 4.9 mM [GO] vs 9.3 ± 2.3 mM [GC]; p < 0.01). LAC remained different between the groups 30 min after exercise (7.0 ± 3.9 mM [GO] vs 3.9 ± 0.9 mM [GC]; p < 0.01). The results suggest that the studied WODs do not differ in acute cardiovascular responses, but depend on different metabolic demands, with RFT structure relying more on glycolytic metabolism (indicated by greater LAC levels after exercise in GO). Efficient snail production is essential for the proper maintenance of the Schistosoma mansoni life cycle in the laboratory. In order to improve the breeding of Biomphalaria glabrata under laboratory conditions, this study aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of a handmade shellbased substrate on the physiological performance of B. glabrata. The shells used to make the substrate were cleaned, sterilized and macerated until a powder was obtained (yield of 92.3%). B. glabrata specimens were randomly assigned to three treatment groups: negative control group (NCG) exposed to a clay-only substrate; a positive control group (PCG) containing clay, oyster flour and calcium carbonate; and the test group (TG) with the shell‑based substrate and clay. B. glabrata bred in the test group showed improved growth, sexual maturity, fertility, mortality rate, and shell morphology when compared to the NCG, and similar to the PCG. Therefore, the shell-based substrate proved to be efficient and has a low cost for the breeding of B. glabrata. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
