A central debate in contemporary Latin American social sciences revolves around the enduring presence of colonial patterns, practices, and forms of domination in research methodologies and the subjective framing of societal issues. However, decolonizing initiatives are emerging, concurrently, to challenge the ways coloniality has been entwined with the expansion of capital in the 21st century. This introductory article explores the key debates surrounding colonial persistence and decolonization within the social sciences. The dossier employs a methodology centered on documentary analysis and participatory social and political reflection, particularly through experimental approaches. The articles reviewed reveal that colonial persistence and decolonization are inherently dialectical, contradictory, and conflict-ridden, manifesting across diverse social, cultural, economic, and political domains. The uniqueness of this thematic issue lies in its ability to weave together a theoretical and conceptual discourse on symbolic and imaginary aspects within culture, spanning anthropological, legal, and educational dimensions. The analysis underscores that these issues are pluralistic and deeply intertwined with struggles over land and natural resources, enriching interdisciplinary understanding of the complex dialectical relationships between social, anthropological, economic, and political factors, alongside the aesthetics of cultural practices. This article analyzes the presence of the exile and memorialist issue in Maruxa Vilalta's short narrative. It focuses on three aspects of her work: the stories "Diferència" and "El meu dia foll" and the collection "El otro día, la muerte". These texts reveal different identity levels that range from post-memory to collective and multidirectional memory. The objective of the article is to highlight Vilalta's literary production in relation to her condition as an exile, an aspect that has been little studied in existing academic analyses about her. The article analyzes the work of Cristina Peri Rossi from a perspective of poetic drift, highlighting the influence of exile on her work and the presence of literary figures related to the sea and travel. The relationship between exile, nostalgia, and writing is explored, suggesting the idea that exile can be seen as a form of reconquest and the search for a new dwelling. The importance of memory in exile is mentioned, and how nostalgia transforms the time of loss into an evocative time. The article also analyzes the novel "La nave de los locos" as a metaphor for exile, and highlights the character of Equis as a representative of exiled subjectivity and identity instability. Revenge, estrangement, nihilism. These are the main feelings identified by historians to describe the political culture and anthropology of the subversive far right, from the second post-war period to the years of terrorism. Social scientists have placed at the centre of their analysis the radical right’s process of coming to terms with the grief caused by the defeat of the fascist regimes in the Second World War. The emphasis on pessimism, however, has pushed into the background the specificity of the elaboration of defeat within right-wing radicalism. The efforts of far-right intellectuals, in fact, had been aimed at overcoming ‘nostalgism’, that particular form of political melancholy, widespread in neo-fascism, which led to regret rather than overcome the fascist experience. In this perspective, the outbreak of global protest in the 1960s opened a difficult generational confrontation within the Italian far right. Neo-fascist youth movements rediscovered the myth of the ‘fascist revolution in its original form’. The division even ran through families, opposing veterans of the Italian Social Republic with extra-parliamentary militants who later entered underground terrorism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The importance of monuments goes beyond representing or commemorating some event or character. In our everyday life we come across many monuments that we sometimes overlook, it is worth asking ourselves what is the importance of these monuments and if they still remember the same as when they were built or if they have gone through processes of resignification, destruction, appropriation or, even more, if they have fallen into oblivion. This paper will attempt to address these questions by taking as a reference two monuments in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The objective of this paper is to reflect on the place of memory in social research based on a doctoral research experience based on the construction of life trajectories of reincorporated members of the farc-ep with a gender perspective. Among the main reflections, it is observed how memory and the narratives that make it up must be studied and approached not from the veracity of their data, but from the meaning, lessons and interpretations that those who produce them wish to transmit. It is also noted that, within the collective or social memory, we find memories of subgroups that make up that community. Some of these subgroups do not have a story or are marginalized from the collective or social memory, as can happen with women and the reincorporated. Life trajectories with a gender perspective allow the construction of a social memory by allowing us to recognize ourselves with the other from the common places and the differences that we have when inhabiting the same territory, which in the Colombian case has been crossed by particular dynamics, the armed conflict. The work stands out because it not only reflects on the place of memory in social research from a de-colonial and feminist perspective, but also provides an example of how it can be carried out within the framework of an investigation. The sources used focused on theoretical and methodological texts on memory and life trajectories, as well as on four life trajectories of reincorporated members of the Ffarc-ep, these trajectories were part of the doctoral research. - Abstract
This article aims to examine the role of historical memory, as well as the challenges and opportunities that arise from the intersection between memory and history in the context of Afro-descendant populations. It is based on the premise that, although there are no homogeneous and unbreakable memories, it is possible to use historical documentary sources to explore how Afrodescendants in the past constructed narratives of memory and how these practices can help to better understand the present. The first part of the article presents a review of the main debates between memory and history, addressing the tensions and convergences between these two dimensions of knowledge. Theories on historical memory and its application in recent decades in Latin America are discussed, with particular emphasis on the case of Afro-descendant communities. The second part analyzes two concrete examples of memory practices: one based on municipal documents revealing how a group of pardo militiamen used collective memory in their interactions with local authorities, and another based on a colonial periodical publication about a life story that shows, within its exceptionality, the socio-spatial mobility of the Afrodescendant population. The article concludes with some hypotheses about the process of constructing historical oblivion for this sector of the population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The remaining Araucaria Forest in the Southern Region of Brazil represents an important natural bank of medicinal plants, but with little report on the Ethnomedicine practiced in the area. Much of the ancestral knowledge of the medicinal plants in the region is attributed to the "tropeirismo" movement, which drove Brazil during the main economic cycles of the Imperial times. In this context, the aim is to investigate and document the popular rural knowledge on the nomination and use of medicinal plants in the treatment of diseases in domestic animals. For this purpose, we visited the family agriculture communities of eight municipalities in the Microregion of Capanema, Southeast of the State of Paraná. The selection of informers by snowball sampling, where a researching individual appoints another one with knowledge about medicinal plants, resulted in 165 opened and structured interviews for the rescue of popular beliefs. The main result of this study was the elaboration of an inventory of native or introduced medicinal plants which are used regionally for the treatment of diseases that affect animals, with the evaluation of their therapeutic potential. To the same extent, as the forest has been devastated by monocultures, popular knowledge and its cultural singularities about medicinal plants are being lost. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The purpose of this article is to elucidate the transition from grassroots movements advocating for memory preservation to the acknowledgment of memory as a state policy. It perceives the State not as a static entity but as a dynamic arena of power struggles between dominant and subordinate groups, whose transformations lead to reconfigurations. The analysis focuses on the social and political dynamics between Law 975 of 2005 (the Justice and Peace Law) and the Victims Law (Law 1448 of 2011), delineating a highly contentious process that culminated in the institutionalization of public memory policy in Colombia. This transition emphasizes the State's obligation to democratize memory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It has been twenty years since the physical death of Jacques Derrida. Yet his legacy seems to be extraordinary alive and rich in a work which is profusely studied, which gives what to think in the sense about how it is possible to use his theoretical analyses to "think" in another way the world's problems both in the philosophical, political and sociocultural fields. Derrida's thought represents --perhaps more than ever-- an enigmatic challenge for the 21st century scholar. This paper aims a call to what could be "his name" in a "tribute" based on what Derrida called himself a "work of mourning" from the memory of the absent. He questions "what's left?", "is there any kind of surplus (of life, of meaning) which remains?". I seek therefore not exactly a homage to Derrida's death but rather to take some terms closely related themselves in Derrida's thought, in a way alike to what himself sought through concepts like différance, deconstruction, double session, spectrum, among others. Introduction. The study of ocular movements in patients with Alzheimer disease is a useful tool to evaluate recognition memory. Methods. Assessment of this specific type of explicit memory in 15 individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer disease and 15 controls. The parameters of ocular fixation were examined using the Eye-Tracking Tobii Tx300 through Pair-wised ranking with the paradigm novel object recognition. Discussion. The analysis of oculomotorius behavior can simplify the evaluation of recognition memory without appealing to verbal report and the visual paired comparison task. This contributes to the comprehension of the relationship among spatial attention, working memory, and episodic memory. Results: People with Alzheimer disease present difficulties in the recognition of previously presented stimulus when the latency of presentation of the familiarization and the test period is longer than two minutes. This article analyzes the technology of memory as truth, based on the work carried out by the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence, and Non-Repetition, created in Colombia within the framework of the Peace Agreements signed by the government and the FARC-EP guerrillas in 2016, utilizing the confessional dispositif proposed by Michel Foucault in the 1970s and 1980s. The study of confession and testimony is developed in three stages: 1. The mechanism for collecting testimonies in the volume Cuando los pájaros no cantaban will be analyzed. 2. The studies on confession and truth in Foucault's analyses will be revisited. 3. An articulation between memory and history based on testimonies is proposed. The article concludes with references to historical memory from the proposal of a testimonial technology, proposed from the confessional dispositif. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective/Context: In the field of Holocaust studies, the Latin American experience has occupied a liminal space. Even when the global character assumed by its forms of remembrance is widely accepted, little attention has been paid to the national cases of this region. This paper deals with a specific national case through the construction record of the National Monument to the Victims of the Jewish Holocaust, located in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The present research reveals the legal and administrative process that accompanied its gestation, the recognition of the actors that intervened throughout the period, and, finally, the character and debates that the architecture of the pantheon provoked. This cycle, which lasted a little more than two decades, allows us to qualify the meaning of the global character of Holocaust memory by considering how this experience was redefined in a national context. Methodology: For this research, qualitative techniques are used in the analysis of the legislative and patrimonial records, journalistic sources, interviews with involved actors, and a documentary film called "Monument," which aims to give an account of the history of its construction and the representational matrix of that memorial. Originality: Although there have been, in recent years, some works that addressed the memory of the Holocaust in Argentina, they focused on various cultural media: literature, film, and testimonial narratives. This paper addresses an object whose materiality is different--monumental--and which was conceived as a public policy of commemorative character. The analysis of the construction of this memorial pantheon allows recognition of how the transnational dimensions of Holocaust remembrance intersected with aspects of the Argentine political process of the last twenty years. Conclusions: The analysis of the construction process and the materiality assumed by its architecture demonstrate, first, how the global dimensions of Holocaust remembrance interact with local contexts and, second, the tensions raised between the actors and organizations that promote its memory and the victims of Nazi persecution in Argentina.
