This article attempts to analyze the essence of the meaning of human life, its fundamental bases and reasons for its great importance, especially in the post-secular era.

The main achievements and development trends of the past 10–15 years related to the catalytic cyclopropanation of unsaturated compounds with diazomethane are integrated and analyzed. The attention is focused on the most efficient catalysts based on palladium compounds. Data on the effects of substrate structure and nature of catalyst components on the regio- and stereoselectivity of these reactions are systematized. Characteristic features of safe methods for diazomethane generation are considered, including the use of membrane technologies and continuous-flow and in situ preparation methods, which have prospects for industrial application. The bibliography includes 281 references.

Novel spiroandrostene-17,6'-[1,3,4]thiadiazines obtained by synthesis from 16βββ,17βββ-epoxy-17-isopregn-5-en-3βββ-ol-20-one and N-aryl-2-hydrazino-2-thioxoacetamide efficiently inhibited the release of Epstein–Barr virus from cells carrying the virus in culture. Other studied steroids, such as Spirolactone, Digitonin, Diosgenin, and Hecogenin were inactive. DMSO alone was found to inhibit the virus release, as well, likely, because of changing properties of the cell membranes. The novel steroids, Spironolactone and most analogues display no or low cell toxicity while Digitonin produced a significant toxic effect.

This is the second book in the Donor-Acceptor Cyclopropanes series. It summarizes and analyzes for the first time the main intermediates formed from D-A cyclopropanes, and also systematizes the main ways of their further transformations. Co – Cu nanoparticles were obtained by pulsed laser ablation in a liquid medium in a constant magnetic field. The organic solvent, hexane, served as a liquid medium. The influence of the magnetic field on the formation of nanoparticles was studied. It is shown that the magnetic field leads to a decrease in the size distribution width of the resulting nanoparticles.

Parasitic diseases are a serious problem for medicine and the agro-industrial complex. The most effective antiparasitic compounds are avermectins, for the discovery of which Satoshi Omura and William Campbell were awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. For the first time, the monograph summarizes and analyzes the achievements in the chemistry of avermectins and milbemycins, as well as analyzes the possible directions and patterns of chemical modification of these compounds. In addition, the analysis of data on the relationship «structure-property» allows a more conscious approach to the modification of these compounds in order to increase their biological activity, stability, etc. The monograph is intended for wide range of specialists in the field of chemistry of natural compounds and biologically active substances.

The Pd-catalyzed cyclopropanation of 3a,4,7,7a-tetrahydro-1H-indene with diazomethane unexpectedly affords monoand dicyclopropanation products in good yields, the cyclopentene double bond being approximately three times more reactive than the cyclohexene one. In contrast, similar independent competitive cyclopropanation of a cyclopentene–cyclohexene mixture has shown that cyclohexene exhibits an abnormally low reactivity differing by about two orders of magnitude.

The possibilities of laser-induced liquid phase chemical deposition (LCLD) of metal for continuous generation of nickel nanoparticles, the sizes of which allow their use as a catalyst for organic reactions are considered. The conditions for obtaining Ni nanoparticles by this method were optimized.
