The article discusses the study on the histological changes in the hooves of dairy cows having signs of naturally acquired laminitis. It details how the study was conducted, which involved cull cows without clinical signs of hoof defects and with macroscopic lesions linked with laminitis. The results reportedly revealed that cull cows can have histological injuries with inflammation of the dermo-epidermal junction even if they have no macroscopic hoof signs.

The article discusses a study which shows that hydrocortisone decreases apoptosis in the jejunum of horses that had been subjected to experimental ischemia and reperfusion (I/R). The experiment was conducted on ten horses, 5 of which were treated with glucocorticoids (GC) while 5 remained untreated. Segments of the horses' jejunum which were used as controls or as venous ischemia (VIsc) were subjected to 2 hours of ischemia followed by 2 or 12 hours of reperfusion. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling, or TUNEL staining, showed that the number of apoptotic cells in the treated group were significantly lower than in the untreated animals.
