Abstract

This study examines the Lyapunov stability under coordinate $q$-contraction and $q$-dilatation in three dynamical systems: the discrete-time dissipative H\'enon map, and the conservative, non-integrable, continuous-time H\'enon-Heiles and diamagnetic Kepler problems. The stability analysis uses the $q$-deformed Jacobian and $q$-derivative, with trajectory stability assessed for $q > 1$ (dilatation) and $q < 1$ (contraction). Analytical curves in the parameter space mark boundaries of distinct low-periodic motions in the H\'enon map. Numerical simulations compute the maximal Lyapunov exponent across the parameter space, in Poincar\'e surfaces of section, and as a function of total energy in the conservative systems. Simulations show that $q$-contraction ($q$-dilatation) generally decreases (increases) positive Lyapunov exponents relative to the $q = 1$ case, while both transformations tend to increase Lyapunov exponents for regular orbits. Some exceptions to this trend remain unexplained regarding Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser (KAM) tori stability., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures

Abstract

In this paper, we construct the associated vertex operator algebras for all $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal field theories of rank one. We give a uniform presentation through free-field realizations, which turns out to be a particularly suitable framework for this task. The elementary building blocks of the construction are dictated by the low energy degrees of freedom on the Higgs branch, which are well understood for rank-one theories. We further analyze the interplay between Higgs and Coulomb data on the moduli space of vacua, which tightly constrain the overall structure of the free field realizations. Our results suggest a plausible bottom-up classification scheme for low-rank SCFTs incorporating vertex algebra techniques., Comment: 45 pages, 2 figures, 11 tables

Abstract

NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has identified over 7,000 candidate exoplanets via the transit method, with gas giants among the most readily detected due to their large radii. Even so, long intervals between TESS observations for much of the sky lead to candidates for which only a single transit is detected in one TESS sector, leaving those candidate exoplanets with unconstrained orbital periods. Here, we confirm the planetary nature of TIC 393818343 b, originally identified via a single TESS transit, using radial velocity data and ground-based photometric observations from citizen scientists with the Unistellar Network and Exoplanet Watch. We determine a period of $P$ = 16.24921 $\substack{+0.00010 \\ -0.00011}$ days, a mass $M_{P}$ = 4.34 $\pm$ 0.15 $M_{J}$, and semi-major axis $a$ = 0.1291 $\substack{+0.0021 \\ -0.0022}$ au, placing TIC 393818343 b in the "warm Jupiter" population of exoplanets. With an eccentricity $e$ = 0.6058 $\pm$ 0.0023, TIC 393818343 b is the most eccentric warm Jupiter to be discovered by TESS orbiting less than 0.15 au from its host star and therefore an excellent candidate for follow-up, as it may inform our future understanding of how hot and warm Jupiter populations are linked., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables. 4. Unmixing the Wilson line defect CFT. Part II: analytic bootstrap

Abstract

In this second installment of a series of two papers on the $\tfrac{1}{2}$-BPS Wilson line defect CFT in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills, we focus on dynamical aspects of the theory, in particular studying four-point functions with analytic bootstrap methods. Relying on the results of a companion paper for the kinematics and strong coupling spectrum, we consider various four-point functions in the planar limit, in an expansion for large 't Hooft coupling. Our ultimate goal is to provide a detailed derivation of the four-point function of the displacement supermultiplet at three loops, first presented in 2103.10440. Along the way, we present a large amount of new results including four-point functions with zero, one or two long external supermultiplets. The last two represent a novelty in the analytic bootstrap literature and are instrumental in addressing the problem of operators degeneracy. Such phenomenon leads to the necessity of resolving a mixing problem that is more complicated than those usually encountered in the study of holographic correlators, thus leading us to the development of a new approach that we believe will have a wider range of applicability. Related to this issue, we analyze in some detail the structure of the dilatation operator in this model. Some of the ingredients that we use apply more generally to holographic theories, although a thorough investigation of these aspects is missing, to the best of our knowledge, in most interesting cases., Comment: 114 pages, 14 figures

5. Unmixing the Wilson line defect CFT. Part I: spectrum and kinematics

Abstract

This is the first of a series of two papers in which we study the one-dimensional defect CFT defined by insertions of local operators along a $\tfrac{1}{2}$-BPS Wilson line in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills. In this first paper we focus on the kinematical implications of invariance under the $\mathfrak{osp}(4^*|4)$ superconformal algebra preserved by the line. We study correlation functions involving both protected and unprotected supermultiplets and derive the associated superconformal blocks, using two types of superspace for short and long representations. We also discuss the spectrum of defect theories defined by the Wilson line, focusing in particular on fundamental lines in the planar limit: in this case we provide a detailed analysis of the type and number of states both at weak 't Hooft coupling, via the free gauge theory description of the defect CFT, and at strong coupling, where there is a dual description via AdS/CFT. Focusing on the strongly-coupled regime, which will be subject to a detailed analysis using analytic bootstrap techniques in a companion paper, we also develop a strategy that allows to explicitly build superconformal primary operators and their superconformal descendants in terms of the elementary fields in the AdS Lagrangian description. The explicit results will be used in a companion paper to address the problem of operators mixing at strong coupling. Abstract

We continue to explore the bootstrap approach to five-point correlation functions for IIB supergravity on $AdS_5\times S^5$. Building on the result of [1], we develop an improved algorithm that allows us to more efficiently compute correlators of higher Kaluza-Klein modes. The new method uses only factorization and a superconformal twist, and is entirely within Mellin space where the analytic structure of holographic correlators is simpler. Using this method, we obtain in a closed form all five-point functions of the form $\langle pp222\rangle$, extending the earlier result for $p=2$. As a byproduct of our analysis, we also obtain explicit results for spinning four-point functions of higher Kaluza-Klein modes., Comment: 43 pages, 2 figures

9. Bootstrapping string dynamics in the 6d $\mathcal{N} = (2, 0)$ theories

Abstract

We present two complementary approaches to calculating the 2-point function of stress tensors in the presence of a 1/2 BPS surface defect of the 6d $\mathcal{N} = (2,0)$ theories. First, we use analytical bootstrap techniques at large $N$ to obtain the first nontrivial correction to this correlator, from which we extract the defect CFT (dCFT) data characterising the 2d dCFT of the 1/2 BPS plane. Along the way we derive a supersymmetric inversion formula, obtain the relevant superconformal blocks and check that crossing symmetry is satisfied. Notably our result features a holomorphic function whose appearance is related to the chiral algebra construction of Beem, Rastelli and van Rees. Second, we use that chiral algebra description to obtain exact results for the BPS sector of the dCFT, valid at any $N$ and for any choice of surface operator. Abstract

This essay deals with both the crisis of Comparative Literature and the aspects that should be considered in a renewed version of the discipline. In recent years, Comparative Literature has been struggling with newer disciplines, like Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Postcolonial Studies, World Literature, each of them with their new research interests and methodologies. But Comparative Literature has also been quite successful in the integration of these new topics, questions and insights, even if it sometimes did so by abandoning elements that should remain at the core of its business, like multilingualism, a strong historical perspective, and a persistent focus on textual objects and close reading. This article addresses the importance of these three elements, illustrating them with, first, a literary example (Eric Vuillard’s novel 14 juillet) and, second, a literary-historical example that might serve as a possible model of what Comparative Literature may stand for in the coming years (Nicholas Dames, The Chapter).

Abstract

The transiting planet HD80606b undergoes a 1000-fold increase in insolation during its 111-day orbit due to it being highly eccentric (e=0.93). The planet's effective temperature increases from 400K to over 1400K in a few hours as it makes a rapid passage to within 0.03AU of its host star during periapsis. Spectroscopic observations during the eclipse (which is conveniently oriented a few hours before periapsis) of HD80606b with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) are poised to exploit this highly variable environment to study a wide variety of atmospheric properties, including composition, chemical and dynamical timescales, and large scale atmospheric motions. Critical to planning and interpreting these observations is an accurate knowledge of the planet's orbit. We report on observations of two full-transit events: 7 February 2020 as observed by the TESS spacecraft and 7--8 December 2021 as observed with a worldwide network of small telescopes. We also report new radial velocity observations which when analyzed with a coupled model to the transits greatly improve the planet's orbital ephemeris. Our new orbit solution reduces the uncertainty in the transit and eclipse timing of the JWST era from tens of minutes to a few minutes. A pandemia do COVID-19 promoveu novas formas de pensar o papel da Psicologia e de sua práxis, afetando o campo de atuação. Objetivou-se caracterizar e compreender o perfil dos profissionais de Psicologia atuantes na pandemia em plataforma de atendimento on-line. Participaram 20 profissionais, sendo 17 mulheres e 3 homens, com idade média de 32 anos, graduados em Psicologia, desses 5 eram recém-formados, ao qual foram aplicados questionário sociodemográfico e entrevista semiestruturada. Todos buscaram trabalho institucionalizado em ambiente home office. Nenhum profissional havia formação específica para modalidade de atendimento psicológico on-line e/ou em contextos de crise; eles enfrentaram alta demanda de pacientes graves, metas de número de atendimentos diário, com duração de tempo reduzido. A terceirização do vínculo terapêutico, adveio da busca por estabilidade financeira, evitar o contágio da doença e do desemprego. No entanto, a urgência e o desejo de ingressar no mercado de trabalho, mesmo sem formação específica, é intensificado nos recém-formados, o que os expõe a atender às demandas do mercado, que perversamente reconhecem a vulnerabilidade da profissão e naturaliza relações de trabalho precárias. A capacidade de escolha da área de interesse e competência profissional, pode ser limitada no início da carreira, principalmente em contexto de crise. A compreensão do campo de atuação, dificuldades e dinâmica do mercado de trabalho e o reconhecimento dos limites profissionais e pessoais, possibilita a construção de uma identidade e uma postura ética, como um fator protetivo acerca da práxis, o que fortalece a categoria para transformações mais dialéticas.

We present a free field realisation for the vertex operator algebra associated to the genus-two, class $\mathcal{S}$ superconformal field theory of type $\mathfrak{a}_1$. The free field realisation is in the style of recent work by the authors, and is formulated in terms of a one-dimensional isotropic lattice vertex algebra along with two pairs of symplectic fermions. Our realisation makes manifest an enhanced ${\rm USp}(4)$ outer automorphism group of the VOA that is inherited from the symplectic fermion system. This extends an ${\rm SU(2)}$ outer automorphism that has been observed in recent work of Kiyoshige and Nishinaka and significantly simplifies the structure of the algebra. Along the way, we also produce a realisation of the generic subregular Drinfel'd-Sokolov $\mathcal{W}$ algebra of type $\mathcal{c}_2$ in terms of the generic principle $\mathcal{W}$ algebra of type $\mathfrak{c}_2$ and a one-dimensional isotropic lattice vertex algebra., Comment: 11 pages; small edits for clarity in v2; to appear in Physical Review D

We consider the 1d CFT defined by the half-BPS Wilson line in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills. Using analytic bootstrap methods we derive the four-point function of the super-displacement operator at fourth order in a strong coupling expansion. Abstract

In this study, we analyze the effectiveness of measures aimed at finding and isolating infected individuals to contain epidemics like COVID-19, as the suppression induced over the effective reproduction number. We develop a mathematical model to compute the relative suppression of the effective reproduction number of an epidemic that such measures produce. This outcome is expressed as a function of a small set of parameters that describe the main features of the epidemic and summarize the effectiveness of the isolation measures. In particular, we focus on the impact when a fraction of the population uses a mobile application for epidemic control. Finally, we apply the model to COVID-19, providing several computations as examples, and a link to a public repository to run custom calculations. These computations display in a quantitative manner the importance of recognizing infected individuals from symptoms and contact-tracing information, and isolating them as early as possible. We study the four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theories that describe D3-branes probing the recently constructed N=2 S-folds in F-theory. We introduce a novel, infinite class of superconformal field theories related to S-fold theories via partial Higgsing. Abstract We continue to explore the bootstrap approach to five-point correlation functions for IIB supergravity on AdS 5 × S 5. Building on the result of [1], we develop an improved algorithm that allows us to more efficiently compute correlators of higher Kaluza-Klein modes. The new method uses only factorization and a superconformal twist, and is entirely within Mellin space where the analytic structure of holographic correlators is simpler. Using this method, we obtain in a closed form all five-point functions of the form 〈pp222〉, extending the earlier result for p = 2. As a byproduct of our analysis, we also obtain explicit results for spinning four-point functions of higher Kaluza-Klein modes.

Abstract

Caracterizar a demanda de atendimento psicológico e compreender a experiência dos profissionais que atuaram na pandemia do COVID-19, em uma plataforma de atendimento psicológico on-line. Realizou-se uma análise documental e entrevista semiestruturada com 20 psicólogos que atuaram no mínimo 6 meses na plataforma entre mar/2020 à dez/2022, em que foram atendidos um total 15.963 pacientes. Dentre as demandas, prevaleceram ideação suicida com planejamento, ansiedade e depressão. O perfil prevalente dos pacientes atendidos na pandemia corresponde à literatura, em períodos não pandêmicos, bem como a prevalência de sintomas ansiosos e depressivos. Porém, destacou o surgimento do alto número de pacientes com ideação suicida, o que sugere um agravamento dos transtornos mentais, despertado pela pandemia, além de uma dificuldade comum aos entrevistados, relacionada a clareza dos critérios clínicos utilizados para determinação da gravidade dos casos. Os psicólogos apontaram dificuldades no manejo destes casos graves, intensificados pelo impacto emocional pandêmico também sentido por eles, junto ao despreparo para sua atuação online, as percebendo como limitações. Apesar do despreparo, a alta demanda incitou os profissionais aderirem as especificidades da modalidade. Estes relataram ter buscado aporte teórico e apoio emocional para manterem os recursos internos, cognitivos e emocionais, necessários ao setting terapêutico. Pode-se concluir que os resultados evidenciaram a importância de se refletir sobre os critérios de avaliação clínica utilizados para compreensão da severidade dos casos, sem deixar de considerar os recursos internos dos pacientes relativos à sua capacidade de sofrer, os quais podem ser identificados quando mantida a capacidade de rêverie do profissional.

Abstract

We analyze the N=2 superconformal field theories that arise when a pair of D3-branes probe an F-theory singularity from the perspective of the associated vertex operator algebra. We identify these vertex operator algebras for all cases; we find that they have a completely uniform description, parameterized by the dual Coxeter number of the corresponding global symmetry group. We further present free field realizations for these algebras in the style of recent work by three of the authors. These realizations transparently reflect the algebraic structure of the Higgs branches of these theories. We find fourth-order linear modular differential equations for the vacuum characters/Schur indices of these theories, which are again uniform across the full family of theories and parameterized by the dual Coxeter number. RESUMO Objetivo Investigar a queixa de dificuldade de inteligibilidade na presença de ruído, em sujeitos sem perda auditiva e compará-la com o desempenho em um teste de fala no ruído. Método A casuística foi constituída por 39 sujeitos de 18 a 59 anos e 11 meses foram divididos em quatro grupos em função da década de vida. Estes foram submetidos à audiometria, timpanometria, testes de processamento auditivo, mini exame do estado mental, autorrelato da percepção auditiva com o Pt-AIADH e a um teste de sentenças no silêncio e no ruído. Resultados Todos os grupos pontuaram para os domínios do Pt-AIADH, com maior pontuação média para o domínio de inteligibilidade no ruído. Houve diferenças entre o G18 vs G40, G18 vs G50, e G30 vs G50 para a autopercepção auditiva na inteligibilidade no ruído; e diferenças entre o G18 e os demais grupos no teste de fala com ruído, com menor relação sinal-ruído para os adultos mais velhos. Houve correlação moderada e significativa para a inteligibilidade no ruído e o teste de fala no ruído. Conclusão Normo-ouvintes de todas as faixas etárias estudadas apresentaram queixa de inteligibilidade no ruído. Quanto maior a dificuldade auditiva neste domínio pior o desempenho no teste de fala com ruído, sendo mais significativo em adultos de meia idade.

Enteroviruses (EVs) are the most common causes of viral myocarditis in neonates. Neonatal enterovirus myocarditis manifestations range from nonspecific febrile illness to congestive heart failure and cardiogenic shock with high risk of in-hospital mortality and long-term cardiac sequelae. Early recognition is essential to undertake appropriate therapy and predict outcomes. Echocardiography and echo-derived left ventricular strain measures seem promising for these purposes. We herein report two cases of neonatal enterovirus-associated myocarditis in dichorionic diamniotic twins, with different presentation, clinical course, and intensity of treatments.

Abstract

We present free field realizations for the associated vertex operator algebras of a number of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal field theories. Our constructions utilize an exceptionally small set of chiral bosons whose number matches the complex dimensionality of the Higgs branch of the superconformal field theory. In the case of theories whose Higgs branches support additional degrees of freedom (free vector multiplets or decoupled interacting SCFTs), the corresponding "free field realizations" include additional ingredients: symplectic fermions in the case of vector multiplets and a $C_2$ co-finite VOA in the case of a residual interacting SCFT. The resulting picture is that the associated VOA can be constructed from the Higgs branch effective theory via free field realization. Abstract

We define and study a class of $\mathcal{N}=2$ vertex operator algebras $\mathcal{W}_{\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}}$ labelled by complex reflection groups. They are extensions of the $\mathcal{N}=2$ super Virasoro algebra obtained by introducing additional generators, in correspondence with the invariants of the complex reflection group $\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}$. If $\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}$ is a Coxeter group, the $\mathcal{N}=2$ super Virasoro algebra enhances to the (small) $\mathcal{N}=4$ superconformal algebra. With the exception of $\mathcal{\mathsf{G}} = \mathbb{Z}_2$, which corresponds to just the $\mathcal{N}=4$ algebra, these are non-deformable VOAs that exist only for a specific negative value of the central charge. We describe a free-field realization of $\mathcal{W}_{\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}}$ in terms of rank$(\mathcal{\mathsf{G}})$ $\beta \gamma bc$ ghost systems, generalizing a construction of Adamovic for the $\mathcal{N}=4$ algebra at $c = -9$. If $\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}$ is a Weyl group, $\mathcal{W}_{\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}}$ is believed to coincide with the $\mathcal{N}=4$ VOA that arises from the four-dimensional super Yang-Mills theory whose gauge algebra has Weyl group $\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}$. More generally, if $\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}$ is a crystallographic complex reflection group, $\mathcal{W}_{\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}}$ is conjecturally associated to an $\mathcal{N}=3$ $4d$ superconformal field theory. The free-field realization allows to determine the elusive `$R$-filtration' of $\mathcal{W}_{\mathcal{\mathsf{G}}}$, and thus to recover the full Macdonald index of the parent $4d$ theory, Comment: 70 pages

31. Bootstrapping the half-BPS line defect

Abstract

We use modern bootstrap techniques to study half-BPS line defects in 4d N=4 superconformal theories. Specifically, we consider the 1d CFT with OSP(4*|4) superconformal symmetry living on such a defect. Our analysis is general and based only on symmetries, it includes however important examples like Wilson and 't Hooft lines in N=4 super Yang-Mills. We present several numerical bounds on OPE coefficients and conformal dimensions. Of particular interest is a numerical island obtained from a mixed correlator bootstrap that seems to imply a unique solution to crossing. The island is obtained if some assumptions about the spectrum are made, and is consistent with Wilson lines in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills at strong coupling. We further analyze the vicinity of the strong-coupling point by calculating perturbative corrections using analytic methods. 34. Early Optimal Parenteral Nutrition During NICU Stay and Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in Very Preterm Infants: State of the Art.

Abstract

Background: Preterm infants (PIs) are more susceptible to neurodevelopmental impairment compared with term newborns. Adequate postnatal growth has been associated with improved neurocognitive outcomes; therefore, optimization of nutrition may positively impact the neurodevelopment of PIs. Objective: This study focused on macronutrient parenteral nutrition (PN) intake during the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit stay and their associations with neurodevelopmental outcomes in PIs in the first two years of life. Methods: The Embase, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library databases were searched using the following subject headings and terms (MeSH): "premature infants", "parenteral nutrition", "growth", "brain", "neurodevelopment", and "central nervous system diseases". All relevant papers' reference lists were manually searched. PN and neurodevelopment studies concerning the first two years of life were collected and analyzed. Results: 275 potential studies were retrieved, 64 were selected for full-text reading, and 22 were included (12 randomized controlled trials). While glucose intakes should be immediately provided and strictly monitored avoiding hyperglycemia, the long-term outcomes of aggressive PN caloric intakes are uncertain. Early amino acid (AA) supplementation is mandatory and improves short-term growth, though it is questionable whether increased AA and better neurodevelopment are directly related. Lipid infusion should be initiated right after birth, and further investigation will enable us to ascertain the potential impacts of lipid emulsions, particularly fish oil, on PI neurodevelopment. Conclusions: An aggressive PN and its possible metabolic complication could not favor neurodevelopment; the way forward could be a customized approach, depending on the patient's clinical state and tolerance. Abstract

We report the discovery and confirmation of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) single-transit, warm and dense sub-Saturn, TIC 139270665 b. This planet is unusually dense for its size: with a bulk density of 2.13 g cm ^−3 (0.645 R _J , 0.463 M _J ), it is the densest warm sub-Saturn of the TESS family. It orbits a metal-rich G2 star. We also found evidence of a second planet, TIC 139270665 c, with a longer period of ${1010}_{-220}^{+780}$ days and minimum mass ${M}_{P}\sin i$ of ${4.89}_{-0.37}^{+0.66}$ M _J . First clues of TIC 139270665 b’s existence were found by citizen scientists inspecting TESS photometric data from sector 47 in 2022 January. Radial velocity measurements from the Automated Planet Finder combined with TESS photometry and spectral energy distributions via EXOFASTv2 system modeling suggested a ${23.624}_{-0.031}^{+0.030}$ day orbital period for TIC 139270665 b and also showed evidence for the second planet. Based on this estimated period, we mobilized the Unistellar citizen science network for photometric follow-up, capitalizing on their global distribution to capture a second transit of TIC 139270665 b. This citizen science effort also served as a test bed for an education initiative that integrates young students into modern astrophysics data collection. The Unistellar photometry did not definitively detect a second transit, but did enable us to further constrain the planet’s period. As a transiting, warm, and dense sub-Saturn, TIC 139270665 b represents an interesting laboratory for further study to enhance our models of planetary formation and evolution.

Abstract

NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has identified over 7000 candidate exoplanets via the transit method, with gas giants among the most readily detected due to their large radii. Even so, long intervals between TESS observations for much of the sky lead to candidates for which only a single transit is detected in one TESS sector, leaving those candidate exoplanets with unconstrained orbital periods. Here, we confirm the planetary nature of TIC 393818343 b, originally identified via a single TESS transit, using radial velocity data and ground-based photometric observations from citizen scientists with the Unistellar Network and Exoplanet Watch. We determine a period of P = 16.24921 ${}_{-0.00011}^{+0.00010}$ days, a mass M _P = 4.34 ± 0.15 M _J , and semimajor axis a = 0.1291 ${}_{-0.0022}^{+0.0021}$ au, placing TIC 393818343 b in the “warm Jupiter” population of exoplanets. With an eccentricity e = 0.6058 ± 0.0023, TIC 393818343 b is the most eccentric warm Jupiter to be discovered by TESS orbiting less than 0.15 au from its host star and therefore an excellent candidate for follow-up, as it may inform our future understanding of how hot and warm Jupiter populations are linked.

Abstract

The essay offers a new reading of the photographic frontispieces produced by Alvin Langdon Coburn for the New York Editon of Henry James’s novels and tales published between 1907 and 1909. This reading is grounded in three main moves. First, taking as a starting point the overall project of the New York Edition and the multiple textual layers with which the images interact in the material support (not only the literary texts, but also the prefaces that James specifically wrote for the edition, and even the captions that accompany each of the images). Second, considering the frontispieces as a series of images related to one another and to several texts at the same time, in an intersectional pattern that goes beyond the mere one-to-one association. Third, situating the frontispieces in the context of James’s spatial imagination, the uses of photography in late nineteenth-century visual culture, and literary tourism. Thanks to these critical moves, it is possible to reflect upon the images’ force and the multifaceted intermedial relations they trigger, within what one may call a performative framework.

Abstract

We initiate the bootstrap program for $\mathcal{N}=3$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs) in four dimensions. The problem is considered from two fronts: the protected subsector described by a $2d$ chiral algebra, and crossing symmetry for half-BPS operators whose superconformal primaries parametrize the Coulomb branch of $\mathcal{N}=3$ theories. With the goal of describing a protected subsector of a family of $\mathcal{N}=3$ SCFTs, we propose a new $2d$ chiral algebra with super Virasoro symmetry that depends on an arbitrary parameter, identified with the central charge of the theory. Turning to the crossing equations, we work out the superconformal block expansion and apply standard numerical bootstrap techniques in order to constrain the CFT data. We obtain bounds valid for any theory but also, thanks to input from the chiral algebra results, we are able to exclude solutions with $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetry, allowing us to zoom in on a specific $\mathcal{N}=3$ SCFT., Comment: 54 pages (43 plus five appendices), 7 figures; v2: improvements for clarity

Abstract

This paper focuses on the analysis of $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ superconformal theories in the presence of a defect from the point of view of the conformal bootstrap. We will concentrate first on the case of codimension one, where the defect is a boundary that preserves half of the supersymmetry. After studying the constraints imposed by supersymmetry, we will obtain the Ward identities associated to two-point functions of $\tfrac{1}{2}$-BPS operators and write their solution as a superconformal block expansion. Due to a surprising connection between spacetime and R-symmetry conformal blocks, our results not only apply to $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ superconformal theories with a boundary, but also to three more systems that have the same symmetry algebra: $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ superconformal theories with a line defect, $3d$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ superconformal theories with no defect, and $OSP(4^*|4)$ superconformal quantum mechanics. The superconformal algebra implies that all these systems possess a closed subsector of operators in which the bootstrap equations become polynomial constraints on the CFT data. Este artigo analisa a forma urbana do bairro da Enseada do Suá, situado na cidade de Vitória (ES). O objetivo da pesquisa é compreender o processo de produção do território para identificar os fatores que estão na gênese da estrutura da sua forma urbana. Como objetivo específico, almeja identificar o legado e as rupturas desse processo. Diversas intervenções urbanas a partir da década de 1970 consolidam o bairro Enseada do Suá, inserido na região do novo centro da cidade de Vitória. O método utilizado para desenvolvimento da pesquisa baseia-se na apreciação crítica fundamentada sobre morfologia e forma urbana, bem como no entendimento da conformação da forma urbana do bairro da Enseada do Suá. Os dados coletados na pesquisa de campo embasam a análise crítica dessas transformações. Os resultados evidenciam que o processo de evolução do bairro da Enseada do Suá sofre fortes influências do mercado imobiliário, o que leva a alterações substanciais no bairro.

Abstract

We introduce a novel harmonic superspace for $3d$ $\mathcal{N}=6$ superconformal field theories that is tailor made for the study of correlation functions of BPS operators. We calculate a host of two- and three-point functions in full generality and put strong constraints on the form of four-point functions of some selected BPS multiplets. For the four-point function of $\frac{1}{2}$-BPS operators we obtain the associated Ward identities by imposing the absence of harmonic singularities. The latter imply the existence of a solvable subsector in which the correlator becomes topological. Our goal is to develop a more general scheme for constructing integrable lattice regularisations of integrable quantum field theories. Considering the affine Toda theories as examples, we show how to construct such lattice regularisations using the representation theory of quantum affine algebras. This requires us to clarify in particular the relations between the light-cone approach to integrable lattice models and the representation theory of quantum affine algebras. Both are found to be related in a very natural way, suggesting a general scheme for the construction of generalised Baxter Q-operators. One of the main difficulties we need to deal with is coming from the infinite-dimensionality of the relevant families of representations. It is handled by means of suitable renormalisation prescriptions defining what may be called the modular double of quantum affine algebras. Abstract

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Mechanically connected joints used in cryogenic fluid lines as part of space flight elements need to survive launch vibrations and remain leak-free to minimize the loss of on-board commodity and hazardous gas accumulation. In 2020, a cryogenic test apparatus was developed which can evaluate the leak performance of pressurized threaded fluid fittings. The fittings were mounted in the TVAC and cooled to cryogenic test temperature and pressurized with helium while the leak rate was measured using a calibrated GHe leak detector. The test articles for the initial proof of concept testing were ¼ and 1 inch Swagelok VCR fittings with three different types of seal rings copper, nickel, and Ni. Each fitting configuration (size/seal material) was subjected to two consecutive cryogenic thermal cycles, followed by exposure to a launch vibration profile at ambient temperature, after which two additional TVAC cycle tests were performed. The testing reported here is a continuation of the 2020 tests with a statistically significant large number of samples and test runs. Three Swagelok VCR fitting sizes were tested ¼, ½ and 1 inch, and five (5) samples of each fitting size, each sample was tested with SST and Ni seal rings (Total of 30 unique test articles). Each test article was subjected to four (4) thermal cycles. Half of these cycles were performed before vibration testing and half were performed after vibration testing. The vibration testing was performed to evaluate the ability of the fittings to survive launch-type vibration profiles and remain leak-free. Leak checking of each fitting was completed at temperatures between 20K – 30K. The test procedure in Section 8.0 was designed to facilitate a qualification test program by allowing a higher test throughput rate coupled with repeatable test profiles. Results were very positive and show that out of the 30 samples they all passed with leak rates a factor of 2-3 lower than the established 10-6sccs GHe leak threshold. The result showed the Ni seals had lower leak rate, but the SST was more rugged. There were two deviations where damage to the Ni seal ring during assembly resulted in a leaky fitting, this is discussed in Section 10.7 Test Deviations. These fittings show great promise for space flight use and further testing is recommended to fully qualify the fittings per the ASTM F1387-19 and/or other relevant NASA specifications. The test equipment hardware and software capability developed for this testing is generic and not restricted to VCR fittings. It can be employed to evaluate/qualify the leak performance of other types of fittings and a wide range of other cryogenic fluid components such as valves, gages, connectors, etc.

Abstract

Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is the most devastating gastrointestinal (GI) emergency in preterm neonates. Untargeted metabolomics may allow the identification of biomarkers involved in NEC pathophysiology. Methods: We conducted a prospective study including preterm infants born at < 34 gestational weeks (GWs) whose urine was longitudinally collected at birth (< 48 h, T0) and at 14 (T1) and 28 days (T2). Neonates were followed for their development of NEC, spontaneous intestinal perforation (SIP), or other GI conditions and compared to those of matched healthy controls. Urine samples were investigated by untargeted metabolomic analysis based on mass-spectrometry. Results: Thirty-five patients with NEC, 5 patients with SIP, 14 patients with other GI diseases and 113 controls were enrolled and selected for metabolomic analysis on the basis of their clinical characteristics and available samples. Considering urine samples at T0, the one-class classification approach was able to correctly classify 16/20 subjects (80%) who developed NEC, 3/3 (100%) who developed SIP and 5/7 subjects (71.4%) with other GI pathologies as not belonging to the control group. Neonates with surgical NEC had higher N-acetylaspartic acid, butyrylcarnitine and propionylcarnitine levels than did those with medical NEC. Considering the time evolution of the urinary metabolome, the NEC and control groups showed differences independently of the time point. Conclusions: The urinary metabolome is closely associated with the underlying GI disease from birth. Urinary metabolic features characterize NEC patients from healthy controls until 28 days of life. The early urinary metabolome has the potential to predict surgical NEC. Future studies are needed to validate our results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
