The intrinsic magnetic order, large topological-magnetic gap and rich topological phases make MnBi2Te4 a wonderful platform to study exotic topological quantum states such as axion insulator and Chern insulator. To realize and manipulate these topological phases in a MnBi2Te4 thin film, precise manipulation of the electric field across the film is essential, which requires a dual-gate structure. In this work, we achieve dual-gate tuning of MnBi2Te4 thin films grown with molecular beam epitaxy on SrTiO3(111) substrates by applying the substrate and an AlOx layer as the gate dielectrics of bottom and top gates, respectively. Under magnetic field of 9T and temperature of 20 mK, the Hall and longitudinal resistivities of the films show inversed gate-voltage dependence, for both top- and bottom-gates, signifying the existence of the dissipationless edge state contributed by Chern insulator phase in the ferromagnetic configuration. The maximum of the Hall resistivity only reaches 0.8 h/e2, even with dual-gate tuning, probably due to the high density of bulk carriers introduced by secondary phases. In the antiferromagnetic state under zero magnetic field, the films show normal insulator behavior. The synthesis of solar methanol through direct CO2 hydrogenation using solar energy is of great importance in advancing a sustainable energy economy. In this study, non-precious NiZn intermetallic/ZnO catalyst is reported to catalyze the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol using sunlight irradiation (1sun). The NiZn-ZnO interface is identified as the active site to stabilize the key intermediates of HxCO*. At ambient pressure, the NiZn-ZnO catalyst demonstrates a methanol production rate of 127.5 umol g-1h-1 from solar driven CO2 hydrogenation, with a remarkable 100% selectivity towards methanol in the total organic products. Notably, this production rate stands as the highest record for photothermic CO2 hydrogenation to methanol in continuous-flow reactors with sunlight as the only requisite energy input. This discovery not only paves the way for the development of novel catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol but also marks a significant stride towards a full solar-driven chemical energy storage.

Resonant tunneling diode (RTD) oscillators possess the highest oscillation frequency among all electronic THz emitters. However, the emitted power from RTDs remains limited. Here, we propose linear RTD-oscillator arrays capable of supporting coherent emission from both odd and even coupled modes. Both modes exhibit constructive interference in the far field, enabling high power emission. Experimental demonstrations of coherent emission from 11-RTD-oscillator linear arrays are presented. The odd mode oscillates at approximately 450 GHz, emitting about 0.5 mW, while the even mode oscillates at around 750 GHz, emitting about 1 mW. Moreover, certain RTD-oscillator arrays demonstrate dual-band oscillation under different biases, allowing for controllable switching between two coupled modes. In addition, during bias sweeping in both directions, a notable hysteresis feature is observed in the switching bias for the odd and even modes. Atomic disorder, a widespread problem in compound crystalline materials, is a imperative affecting the performance of multi-chalcogenide Cu2ZnSn(S, Se)4 (CZTSSe) photovoltaic device known for its low cost and environmental friendliness. Cu-Zn disorder is particularly abundantly present in CZTSSe due to its extraordinarily low formation energy, having induced high-concentration deep defects and severe charge loss, while its regulation remains challenging due to the contradiction between disorder-order phase transition thermodynamics and atom-interchange kinetics. Herein, through introducing more vacancies in the CZTSSe surface, we explored a vacancy-assisted strategy to reduce the atom-interchange barrier limit to facilitate the Cu-Zn ordering kinetic process. The improvement in the Cu-Zn order degree has significantly reduced the charge loss in the device and helped us realize 15.4% (certified at 14.9%) and 13.5% efficiency (certified at 13.3%) in 0.27 cm2 and 1.1 cm2-area CZTSSe solar cells, respectively, thus bringing substantial advancement for emerging inorganic thin-film photovoltaics.

Designing terahertz sensors with high sensitivity to detect nanoscale thin films and single biomolecule presents a significant challenge, and addressing these obstacles is crucial for unlocking their full potential in scientific research and advanced applications. This work presents a strategy for the design optimization of metamaterial sensors employed in the detection of small amounts of dielectric materials. The sensors usually utilize the shift of the resonance frequency as an indicator of the presence of the analyte. The amount of shifting depends on intrinsic properties (electric field distribution, quality factor, and mode volume) of the bare cavity, as well as the overlap volume of its high-electric-field zone(s) and the analyte. Guided by the simplified dielectric perturbation theory, interdigitated electric split-ring resonators (ID-eSRR) are devised to significantly enhance the detection sensitivity for thin-film analytes compared to eSRRs without interdigitated fingers in the SRR gap region. The fingers of the ID-eSRR metamaterial sensor redistribute the electric field, creating strongly localized field enhancements that substantially boost the interaction with the analyte. Additionally, the periodic change of the orientation of the inherent anti-phase electric field in the interdigitated structure reduces radiation loss, leading to a higher Q-factor. Experiments with e-beam-fabricated ID-eSRR sensors operating at around 300 GHz demonstrate a remarkable frequency shift of 33.5 GHz upon deposition of a SiO2 layer with a thickness of 150 nm as an analyte simulant. The figure of merit (FOM) improves by over 50 times compared to structures without interdigitated fingers. Kesterite Cu2ZnSn(S, Se)4 (CZTSSe) solar cell has emerged as one of the most promising candidates for thin-film photovoltaics. However, severe charge losses occurring at the grain boundaries (GBs) of Kesterite polycrystalline absorbers has hindered the improvement of cell performance. Herein, we report a redox reaction strategy involving palladium (Pd) to eliminate atomic vacancy defects such as VSn and VSe in GBs of the Kesterite absorbers. We demonstrate that PdSex compounds could form during the selenization process and distribute at the GBs and the absorber surfaces; thereby aid in the suppression of Sn and Se volatilization loss and inhibiting the formation of VSn and VSe defects. Furthermore, Pd(II)/Pd(IV) serves as a redox shuttle, i.e., on one hand, Pd(II) captures Se vapor from the reaction environment to produce PdSe2, on the other hand, PdSe2 provides Se atoms to the Kesterite absorber by being reduced to PdSe, thus contributing to the elimination of pre-existing VSe defects within GBs. These effects collectively reduce defects and enhance the p-type characteristics of the Kesterite absorber, leading to a significant reduction in charge recombination loss within the cell. As a result, high-performance Kesterite solar cells with a total-area efficiency of 14.5% have been achieved. This remarkable efficiency increase benefited from the redox reaction strategy offers a promising avenue for the precise regulation of defects in Kesterite solar cells and holds generally significant implications for the exploration of various other photovoltaic devices.

Herein, NiO nanosheets supported with Ag single atoms are synthesized for photothermal CO2 hydrogenation to achieve 1065 mmol g$^{-1}$ h$^{-1}$ of CO production rate under 1 sun irradiation, revealing the unparalleled weak sunlight driven reverse water-gas shift reaction (RWGS) activity. This performance is attributed to the coupling effect of Ag-O-Ni sites to enhance the hydrogenation of CO$_2$ and weaken the CO adsorption, resulting in 1434 mmol g$^{-1}$ h$^{-1}$ of CO yield at 300$^\circ$ C, surpassing any low-temperature RWGS performances ever reported. Building on this, we integrated the 2D Ni$_1$Ag$_{0.02}$O$_1$ supported photothermal RWGS with commercial photovoltaic electrolytic water splitting, leading to the realization of 103 m$^2$ scale artificial photosynthesis system (CO$_2$+H$_2$$\to$CO+H$_2$O) with a daily CO yield of 18.70 m$^3$, a photochemical energy conversion efficiency of >16%, over 90% H$_2$ ultilization efficiency, outperforming other types of artificial photosynthesis. The results of this research chart a promising course for designing practical, natural sunlight-driven artificial photosynthesis systems and highly efficient platinum-free CO$_2$ hydrogenation catalysts. This work is a significant step towards harnessing solar energy more efficiently and sustainably, opening exciting possibilities for future research and development in this area.

The Cu2ZnSn(S, Se)4 (CZTSSe) emerging inorganic solar cell is highly promising for accelerating the large-scale and low-cost applications of thin-film photovoltaics. It possesses distinct advantages such as abundant and non-toxic constituent elements, high material stability, and excellent compatibility with industrial processes. However, CZTSSe solar cells still face challenges related to complex defects and charge losses. To overcome these limitations and improve the efficiency of CZTSSe solar cells, it is crucial to experimentally identify and mitigate deep defects. In this study, we reveal that the dominant deep defect in CZTSSe materials exhibits donor characteristics. We propose that incomplete cation exchange during the multi-step crystallization reactions of CZTSSe is the kinetics mechanism responsible for the defect formation. To address this issue, we introduce an elemental synergistic alloying approach aimed at weakening the metal-chalcogen bond strength and the stability of intermediate phases. This alloying strategy has facilitated the kinetics of cation exchange, leading to a significant reduction in charge losses within the CZTSSe absorber. As a result, we have achieved a cell efficiency of over 14.5%. These results represent a significant advancement for emerging inorganic solar cells and additionally bring more opportunities for the precise identification and regulation of defects in a wider range of multinary inorganic compounds.

Dark modes represent a class of forbidden transitions or transitions with weak dipole moments between energy states. Due to their low transition probability, it is difficult to realize their interaction with light, let alone achieve the strong interaction of the modes with the photons in a cavity. However, by mutual coupling with a bright mode, the strong interaction of dark modes with photons is possible. This type of mediated interaction is widely investigated in the metamaterials community and is known under the term electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). Here, we report strong coupling between a plasmonic dark mode of an EIT-like metamaterial with the photons of a 1D photonic crystal cavity in the terahertz frequency range. The coupling between the dark mode and the cavity photons is mediated by a plasmonic bright mode, which is proven by the observation of a frequency splitting which depends on the strength of the inductive interaction between the plasmon bright and dark modes of the EIT-like metamaterial. In addition, since the plasmonic dark mode strongly couples with the cavity dark mode, we observes four polariton modes. The frequency splitting by interaction of the four modes (plasmonic bright and dark mode and the two eigenmodes of the photonic cavity) can be reproduced in the framework of a model of four coupled harmonic oscillators.

We investigate ultrafast harmonic generation (HG) in Si:B, driven by intense pump pulses with fields reaching ~100 kV/cm and a carrier frequency of 300 GHz, at 4 K and 300 K, both experimentally and theoretically. We report several novel findings concerning the nonlinear charge carrier dynamics in intense sub-THz fields. (i) Harmonics of order up to n=9 are observed at room temperature, while at low temperature we can resolve harmonics reaching even n=13. The susceptibility per charge carrier at moderate field strength is as high as for charge carriers in graphene, considered to be one of the materials with the strongest sub-THz nonlinear response. (ii) For T=300 K, where the charge carriers bound to acceptors are fully thermally ionized into the valence subbands, the susceptibility values decrease with increasing field strength. Simulations incorporating multi-valence-band Monte-Carlo and finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) propagation show that here, the HG process becomes increasingly dominated by energy-dependent scattering rates over the contribution from band non-parabolicity, due to the onset of optical-phonon emission, which ultimately leads to the saturation at high fields. (iii) At T=4 K, where the majority of charges are bound to acceptors, we observe a drastic rise of the HG yields for internal pump fields of 30 kV/cm, as one reaches the threshold for tunnel ionization. We disentangle the HG contributions in this case into contributions from the initial 'generational'- and subsequent band-nonlinearities, and show that scattering seriously degrades any coherent recollision during the subsequent oscillation of the holes.

The origin of insulating ferromagnetism in epitaxial LaCoO3 films under tensile strain remains elusive despite extensive research efforts have been devoted. Surprisingly, the spin state of its Co ions, the main parameter of its ferromagnetism, is still to be determined. Here, we have systematically investigated the spin state in epitaxial LaCoO3 thin films to clarify the mechanism of strain induced ferromagnetism using element-specific x-ray absorption spectroscopy and dichroism. Combining with the configuration interaction cluster calculations, we unambiguously demonstrate that Co3+ in LaCoO3 films under compressive strain (on LaAlO3 substrate) are practically a low spin state, whereas Co3+ in LaCoO3 films under tensile strain (on SrTiO3 substrate) have mixed high spin and low spin states with a ratio close to 1:3. From the identification of this spin state ratio, we infer that the dark strips observed by high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy indicate the position of Co3+ high spin state, i.e., an observation of a spin state disproportionation in tensile-strained LaCoO3 films. This consequently explains the nature of ferromagnetism in LaCoO3 films.

Semiconductor-superconductor hybrid nanowires are a leading material platform for the realization of Majorana zero modes. The semiconductors in previous studies are dominantly InAs or InSb. In this work, we show the induced superconductivity in a PbTe nanowire epitaxially coupled to a superconductor Pb. The Josephson junction device based on this hybrid reveals a gate-tunable supercurrent in the open regime and a hard superconducting gap in the tunneling regime. Controlling the interplay between localized spins and itinerant electrons at the oxide interfaces can lead to exotic magnetic states. Here we devise SrTiO3/LaTiO3/SrTiO3 heterostructures with varied thickness of the LaTiO3 layer (n monolayers) to investigate the magnetic interactions in the two-dimensional electron gas system. The heterostructures exhibit significant Kondo effect when the LaTiO3 layer is rather thin (n = 2, 10), manifesting the strong interaction between the itinerant electrons and the localized magnetic moments at the interfaces, while the Kondo effect is greatly inhibited when n = 20. Notably, distinct Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations are observed and a nonzero Berry phase of {\pi} is extracted when the LaTiO3 layer is rather thin (n = 2, 10), which is absent in the heterostructure with thicker LaTiO3 layer (n = 20). The observed phenomena are consistently interpreted as a result of sub-band splitting and symmetry breaking due to the interplay between the interfacial Rashba spin-orbit coupling and the magnetic orderings in the heterostructures. Our findings provide a route for exploring and manipulating nontrivial electronic band structures at complex oxide interfaces.

The interplay between topology and interaction always plays an important role in condensed matter physics and induces many exotic quantum phases, while rare transition metal layered material (TMLM) has been proved to possess both. Here we report a TMLM Ta$_2$Pd$_3$Te$_5$ has the two-dimensional second-order topology (also a quadrupole topological insulator) with correlated edge states - Luttinger liquid. It is ascribed to the unconventional nature of the mismatch between charge- and atomic- centers induced by a remarkable double-band inversion. This one-dimensional protected edge state preserves the Luttinger liquid behavior with robustness and universality in scale from micro- to macro- size, leading to a significant anisotropic electrical transport through two-dimensional sides of bulk materials. Moreover, the bulk gap can be modulated by the thickness, resulting in an extensive-range phase diagram for Luttinger liquid. Here, we have grown single crystals of LaTe2-xSbx (x=0 and 0.4) with continuously adjustable CDW. High-pressure x-ray diffraction show LaTe2 does not undergo phase transition and keep robust below 40 GPa. In-situ high-pressure electrical measurements show LaTe2-xSbx undergo semiconductor-metal-superconductivity transition at 4.6 and 2.5 GPa, respectively. With the doping of Sb, the highest Tc increases from 4.6 to 6.5 K. Theoretical calculations reveal that the CDW has been completely suppressed and the calculated Tc is about 2.97 K at 4.5 GPa, consistent with the measured value. With the rapid growth of software scale and complexity, a large number of bug reports are submitted to the bug tracking system. In order to speed up defect repair, these reports need to be accurately classified so that they can be sent to the appropriate developers. However, the existing classification methods only use the text information of the bug report, which leads to their low performance. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a new automatic classification method for bug reports. The innovation is that when categorizing bug reports, in addition to using the text information of the report, the intention of the report (i.e. suggestion or explanation) is also considered, thereby improving the performance of the classification. First, we collect bug reports from four ecosystems (Apache, Eclipse, Gentoo, Mozilla) and manually annotate them to construct an experimental data set. Then, we use Natural Language Processing technology to preprocess the data. On this basis, BERT and TF-IDF are used to extract the features of the intention and the multiple text information. Finally, the features are used to train the classifiers. The experimental result on five classifiers (including K-Nearest Neighbor, Naive Bayes, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest) show that our proposed method achieves better performance and its F-Measure achieves from 87.3% to 95.5%.

Online public opinion usually spreads rapidly and widely, thus a small incident probably evolves into a large social crisis in a very short time, and results in a heavy loss in credit or economic aspects. We propose a method to rate the crisis of online public opinion based on a multi-level index system to evaluate the impact of events objectively. Firstly, the dissemination mechanism of online public opinion is explained from the perspective of information ecology. According to the mechanism, some evaluation indexes are selected through correlation analysis and principal component analysis. Then, a classification model of text emotion is created via the training by deep learning to achieve the accurate quantification of the emotional indexes in the index system. Finally, based on the multi-level evaluation index system and grey correlation analysis, we propose a method to rate the crisis of online public opinion. The experiment with the real-time incident show that this method can objectively evaluate the emotional tendency of Internet users and rate the crisis in different dissemination stages of online public opinion. It is helpful to realizing the crisis warning of online public opinion and timely blocking the further spread of the crisis.

The intrinsic magnetic topological insulator MnBi2Te4 provides a feasible pathway to high temperature quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect as well as various novel topological quantum phases. Although quantized transport properties have been observed in exfoliated MnBi2Te4 thin flakes, it remains a big challenge to achieve molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)-grown MnBi2Te4 thin films even close to the quantized regime. In this work, we report the realization of quantized anomalous Hall resistivity in MBE-grown MnBi2Te4 thin films with the chemical potential tuned by both controlled in-situ oxygen exposure and top gating. We find that elongated post-annealing obviously elevates the temperature to achieve quantization of the Hall resistivity, but also increases the residual longitudinal resistivity, indicating a picture of high-quality QAH puddles weakly coupled by tunnel barriers. These results help to clarify the puzzles in previous experimental studies on MnBi2Te4 and to find a way out of the big difficulty in obtaining MnBi2Te4 samples showing quantized transport properties., Comment: 4 figures

Operational stability of perovskite solar cells is remarkably influenced by the device temperature, therefore, decreasing the interior temperature of the device is one of the most effective approaches to prolong the service life. Herein, we introduce the spontaneous radiative cooling effect into the perovskite solar cell and amplified this effect via functional structure design of a full-carbon electrode (F-CE). Firstly, with interface engineering, >19% and >23% power conversion efficiencies of F-CE based inorganic CsPbI3 and hybrid perovskite solar cells have been achieved, respectively, both of which are the highest reported efficiencies based on carbon electrode and are comparative to the results for metal electrodes. Highly efficient thermal radiation of this F-CE can reduce the temperature of the operating cell by about 10 {\deg}C. Compared with the conventional metal electrode-based control cells, the operational stability of the above two types of cells have been significantly improved due to this cooling effect. Especially, the CsPbI3 PSCs exhibited no efficiency degradation after 2000 hours of continuous operational tracking.

In this work, we present a novel artificial photosynthetic paradigm with square meter (m2) level scalable production by integrating photovoltaic electrolytic water splitting device and solar heating CO2 hydrogenation device, successfully achieving the synergy of 1 sun driven 19.4% solar to chemical energy efficiency (STC) for CO production (2.7 times higher than state of the art of large-sized artificial photosynthetic systems) with a low cost (equivalent to 1/7 of reported artificial photosynthetic systems). Furthermore, the outdoor artificial photosynthetic demonstration with 1.268 m2 of scale exhibits the CO generation amount of 258.4 L per day, the STC of ~15.5% for CO production in winter, which could recover the cost within 833 suuny days of operation by selling CO., Comment: 22pages,3 figures

We report phase coherent electron transport in PbTe nanowire networks with a loop geometry. Magneto-conductance shows Aharonov-Bohm (AB) oscillations with periods of $h/e$ and $h/2e$ in flux. The amplitude of $h/2e$ oscillations is enhanced near zero magnetic field, possibly due to interference between time-reversal paths. Temperature dependence of the AB amplitudes suggests a phase coherence length $\sim$ 8 - 12 $\mu$m at 50 mK. Transition-metal nitrides (e.g., TiN, ZrN, TaN) are incredible materials with excellent complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor compatibility and remarkable performance in refractory plasmonics and superconducting quantum electronics. Epitaxial growth of flexible transition-metal nitride films, especially at wafer-scale, is fundamentally important for developing high-performance flexible photonics and superconducting electronics, but the study is rare thus far. This work reports the high-quality epitaxy of 2-inch titanium nitride (TiN) films on flexible fluorophlogopite-mica (F-mica) substrates via reactive magnetron sputtering. Combined measurements of spectroscopic ellipsometer and electrical transport reveal the superior plasmonic and superconducting performance of TiN/F-mica films owing to the high single crystallinity. More interestingly, the superconductivity of these flexible TiN films can be manipulated by the bending states, and enhanced superconducting critical temperature TC is observed in convex TiN films with in-plane tensile strain. Density-functional-theory calculations uncover that the strain can tune the electron-phonon interaction strength and resultant superconductivity of TiN films. This study provides a promising route towards integrating scalable single-crystalline conductive transition-metal nitride films with flexible electronics for high-performance plasmonics and superconducting electronics.

Heterointerfaces have led to the discovery of novel electronic and magnetic states because of their strongly entangled electronic degrees of freedom. Single-phase chromium compounds always exhibit antiferromagnetism following the prediction of Goodenough-Kanamori rules. So far, exchange coupling between chromium ions via hetero-anions has not been explored and the associated quantum states is unknown. Here we report the successful epitaxial synthesis and characterizations of chromium oxide (Cr2O3)-chromium nitride (CrN) superlattices. Room-temperature ferromagnetic spin ordering is achieved at the interfaces between these two antiferromagnets, and the magnitude of the effect decays with increasing layer thickness. First-principles calculations indicate that robust ferromagnetic spin interaction between Cr3+ ions via anion-hybridizations across the interface yields the lowest total energy. This work opens the door to fundamental understanding of the unexpected and exceptional properties of oxide-nitride interfaces and provides access to hidden phases at low-dimensional quantum heterostructures., Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures

Orientation control of oxygen vacancy channel (OVC) is a highly desirable for tailoring oxygen diffusion as it serves fast transport channel in ion conductors, which is widespread exploited in solid-state fuel cells, catalysts, and ion-batteries. Direct observation of oxygen-ions hopping towards preferential vacant sites is a key to clarifying migration pathways. Here we report the anisotropic oxygen-ion migration mediated by strain in ultrathin cobaltites via in-situ thermal activation in an atomic-resolved transmission electron microscopy. Oxygen migration pathways are constructed on the basis of the atomic structure during the OVC switching, which is manifested as the vertical-to-horizontal OVC switching under tensile strain, but the horizontal-to-diagonal switching under compression. We evaluate the topotactic structural changes to OVC, determine the crucial role of tolerance factor for OVC stability and establish the strain-dependent phase diagram. Our work provides a practical guide for engineering OVC orientation that is applicable ionic-oxide electronics.

Control of magnetic states by external factors has garnered a mainstream status in spintronic research for designing low power consumption and fast-response information storage and processing devices. Previously, magnetic-cation substitution is the conventional means to induce ferromagnetism in an intrinsic antiferromagnet. Theoretically, the anion-doping is proposed to be another effect means to change magnetic ground states. Here we demonstrate the synthesis of high-quality single-phase chromium oxynitride thin films using in-situ nitrogen doping. Unlike antiferromagnetic monoanionic chromium oxide and nitride phases, chromium oxynitride exhibits a robust ferromagnetic and insulating state, as demonstrated by the combination of multiple magnetization probes and theoretical calculations. With increasing the nitrogen content, the crystal structure of chromium oxynitride transits from trigonal (R3c) to tetragonal (4mm) phase and its saturation magnetization reduces significantly. Furthermore, we achieve a large and controllable exchange bias field in the chromia heterostructures by synthetic anion engineering. This work reflects the anion engineering in functional oxides towards the potential applications in giant magnetoresistance and tunnelling junctions of modern magnetic sensors and read heads.

Topological quantum computing is based on braiding of Majorana zero modes encoding topological qubits. A promising candidate platform for Majorana zero modes is semiconductor-superconductor hybrid nanowires. The realization of topological qubits and braiding operations requires scalable and disorder-free nanowire networks. Selective area growth of in-plane InAs and InSb nanowires, together with shadow-wall growth of superconductor structures, have demonstrated this scalability by achieving various network structures. However, the noticeable lattice mismatch at the nanowire-substrate interface, acting as a disorder source, imposes a serious obstacle along with this roadmap. Here, combining selective area and shadow-wall growth, we demonstrate the fabrication of PbTe-Pb hybrid nanowires - another potentially promising Majorana system - on a nearly perfectly lattice-matched substrate CdTe, all done in one molecular beam epitaxy chamber. Transmission electron microscopy shows the single-crystal nature of the PbTe nanowire and its atomically sharp and clean interfaces to the CdTe substrate and the Pb overlayer, without noticeable inter-diffusion or strain. The nearly ideal interface condition, together with the strong screening of charge impurities due to the large dielectric constant of PbTe, hold promise towards a clean nanowire system to study Majorana zero modes and topological quantum computing., Comment: 19 pages, 4+7 figures

We report the structure and physical properties of two newly-discovered compounds AV8Sb12 and AV6Sb6 (A = Cs, Rb), which have C2 (space group: Cmmm) and C3 (space group: R-3m) symmetry, respectively. The basic V-kagome unit is present in both compounds, but stacking differently. A V2Sb2 layer is sandwiched between two V3Sb5 layers in AV8Sb12, altering the V-kagome lattice and lowering the symmetry of kagome layer from hexagonal to orthorhombic. In AV6Sb6, the building block is a more complex slab made up of two half-V3Sb5 layers that are intercalated by Cs cations along the c-axis. Transport property measurements demonstrate that both compounds are nonmagnetic metals, with carrier concentrations at around 1021cm-3. No superconductivity has been observed in CsV8Sb12 above 0.3 K under in-situ pressure up to 46 GPa. In contrast to CsV3Sb5, theoretical calculations and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) reveal a quasi-two-dimensional electronic structure in CsV8Sb12 with C2 symmetry and no van Hove singularities near the Fermi level. The interplay among various collective electronic states such as superconductivity (SC) and charge density wave (CDW) is of tremendous significance in low-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides. Thus far, a consensus on the relationship between SC and CDW has not been established in IrTe2, where either competing or collaboration pictures have been suggested in the bulk or thick flakes. Here, we use the state-of-art Au-assisted exfoliation method to overcome the obstacle of interlayer Te-Te bonding, cleaving the IrTe2 down to monolayer for the first time. A striking feature revealed by angle-resolved polarized Raman spectroscopy (ARPRS) and electrical transport measurements is the concurrence of phase separation in one single piece of nano-flake, i.e. the superconducting (P-3m1) and CDW (P-3) area. In the pure SC area, the dimensional fluctuations completely suppress the CDW ordering and induce SC at 3.5 K. Meanwhile, the pure CDW area with much enhanced TCDW at 605 K (compared to TCDW = 280 K in bulk) is always accompanied by a unique wrinkle pattern. Detailed analyses suggest the local strain-induced bond breaking of the Te-Te dimer facilitates the emergence of the CDW order. Dedicated control of oxygen vacancies is an important route to functionalizing complex oxide films. It is well-known that tensile strain significantly lowers the oxygen vacancy formation energy, whereas compressive strain plays a minor role. Thus, atomically reconstruction by extracting oxygen from a compressive-strained film is challenging. Here we report an unexpected LaCoO2.5 phase with a zigzag-like oxygen vacancy ordering through annealing a compressive-strained LaCoO3 in vacuum. The synergetic tilt and distortion of CoO5 square pyramids with large La and Co shifts are quantified using scanning transmission electron microscopy. The large in-plane expansion of CoO5 square pyramids weaken the crystal-field splitting and facilitated the ordered high-spin state of Co2+, which produces an insulating ferromagnetic state with a Curie temperature of ~284 K and a saturation magnetization of ~0.25 {\mu}B/Co. These results demonstrate that extracting targeted oxygen from a compressive-strained oxide provides an opportunity for creating unexpected crystal structures and novel functionalities.

Exploring new two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) systems is at the forefront of materials physics. Here, through molecular beam epitaxy on graphene-covered SiC(0001), we report successful growth of AlSb in the double-layer honeycomb (DLHC) structure, a 2D vdW material which has no direct analogue to its 3D bulk and is predicted kinetically stable when freestanding. The structural morphology and electronic structure of the experimental 2D AlSb are characterized with spectroscopic imaging scanning tunneling microscopy and cross-sectional imaging scanning transmission electron microscopy, which compare well to the proposed DLHC structure. The 2D AlSb exhibits a bandgap of 0.93 eV versus the predicted 1.06 eV, which is substantially smaller than the 1.6 eV of bulk. We also attempt the less-stable InSb DLHC structure; however, it grows into bulk islands instead. The successful growth of a DLHC material here opens the door for the realization of a large family of novel 2D DLHC traditional semiconductors with unique excitonic, topological, and electronic properties., Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures
