We report the observation of a light-induced subpicosecond topological phase transition in the antiferromagnetic Dirac semimetal EuAgAs, achieved through precise manipulation of its magnetic configuration. Using ultrafast optical spectroscopy, we probe the nonequilibrium carrier dynamics and reveal a magnetic-order-driven transition between distinct topological states. Our results demonstrate that EuAgAs, with its highly tunable magnetic structure, offers a unique platform for exploring topological phase transitions, distinct from conventional methods like Floquet engineering, coherent-phonon excitation, and lattice structural modifications. The quasiparticle relaxation dynamics of the iron-based superconductor CsCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$ ($T_c$ $\sim$ 29 K) were investigated using ultrafast optical spectroscopy. A pseudogap ($\Delta_{PG}$ $\approx$ 3.3 meV) was observed to open below $T^{\ast}$ $\approx$ 60 K, prior to the emergence of a superconducting gap ($\Delta$ $\approx$ 6.6 meV). At high excitation fluence, a coherent $A_{1g}$ phonon mode at 5.49 THz was identified, exhibiting deviations from anharmonic behavior below $T_c$. The electron-phonon coupling constant for this mode was estimated to be $\lambda_{A_{1g}}$ $\approx$ 0.225 $\pm$ 0.02. This study investigates the 5$f$-electron-conduction electron hybridization process in the heavy fermion superconductor UPd$_2$Al$_3$ using a combination of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (tr-PES). ARPES measurements reveal the formation of a hybridization gap at a temperature of approximately 75 K, which becomes more pronounced as the temperature decreases. Notably, the persistence of a flat U 5$f$ band at temperatures well above the hybridization onset challenges conventional understanding. Our findings demonstrate a non-monotonic temperature dependence of the quasiparticle relaxation time, with an anomalous decrease at 20 K, suggesting complex electronic and magnetic interactions. In this study, we investigate the electronic structure of a spin-triplet superconductor candidate CeRh$_2$As$_2$ using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. Notably, Fermi surface nesting hints at connections to magnetic excitation or quadrupole density wave phenomena, elucidating the superconducting mechanisms. Measured band structures reveal primarily localized 4f electrons, with minor itinerant contributions. Additionally, a transition from localized to itinerant behavior and significant c-f hybridization anisotropy underscore the role of f-electrons in shaping electronic properties. In this study, ultrafast optical spectroscopy was employed to elucidate the intricate topological features of EuIn$_2$As$_2$, a promising candidate for a magnetic topological-crystalline axion insulator. Our investigation, focusing on the real-time evolution of topological states, unveiled a narrow surface magnetic gap (2$\Delta_0$ $\simeq$ 8.2 meV)) emerging at the antiferromagnetic transition temperature ($T_N$ $\approx$ 16 K). Below $T_N$, two extremely low-energy collective modes, $\omega_1$ and $\omega_2$, with frequencies of $\sim$9.9 and 21.6 GHz at $T$ = 4 K, respectively, were observed, exhibiting strong temperature dependence. $\omega_1$ correlates with an acoustic phonon, while $\omega_2$ is associated with a magnon. The results suggest that EuIn$_2$As$_2$ has the potential to manifest a magnetic topological-crystalline axion insulator, presenting a small magnetic energy gap on the (001) surface. We investigate the antiferromagnetic heavy fermion superconductor UPd$_2$Al$_3$, employing angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to unravel the complex electronic structure of its U 5f electrons. We observe unexpected characteristics that challenge the conventional temperature-dependent behavior of heavy fermion systems, revealing unexpected characteristics. At temperatures above the anticipated coherence temperature (T$^*$), we observe itinerant U 5f electrons at temperatures higher than previously postulated. Additionally, a previously unidentified dispersionless band emerges around 600 meV below the Fermi energy, potentially linked to spin-orbit splitting within the U 5f states. Hybridization between the 5f electrons and conduction band was observed with an energy dispersion of 10 meV at low temperatures, suggesting that U 5f electrons near and at the Fermi surface have an itinerant nature. Temperature-dependent 5d-5f resonance spectra reveal that the 5f electron spectrum weight increases with lowering temperature and begins to decrease at temperatures significantly higher than the Neel temperature (T$_N$). We further show that the competition between the Kondo effect and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interactions may be responsible for the relocalization of 5f electrons, making relocalization a precursor to the establishment of magnetic order at lower temperatures. Our experiments also provide evidence that 5f electrons with the same orbital are involved in both the Kondo effect and RKKY interactions, suggesting that the two coexist at lower temperatures., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Synchrotron-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy was employed to investigate the temperature evolution of the Yb 4f spectral for surface and bulk in the Kondo lattice YbCu$_2$Si$_2$.Our study quantitatively distinguishes between the surface and bulk hybridization processes, revealing that the onset temperatures for both surface and bulk hybridization processes are significantly higher than the Kondo temperature. Additionally, we found that the effective surface Kondo temperature is much lower than that of the bulk. We reported the quasiparticle relaxation dynamics of an optimally doped triclinic iron-based superconductor (Ca$_{0.85}$La$_{0.15}$)$_{10}$(Pt$_3$As$_8$)(Fe$_2$As$_2$)$_5$ with bulk $T_c$ = 30 K using polarized ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy. Our results reveal anisotropic transient reflectivity induced by nematic fluctuations develops below $T_{nem}$ $\approx$ 120 K and persists in the superconducting states. Measurements under high pump fluence reveal three distinct, coherent phonon modes at frequencies of 1.6, 3.5, and 4.7 THz, corresponding to $A_{1g}(1)$, $E_g$, and $A_{1g}(2)$ modes, respectively. The high-frequency $A_{1g}(2)$ mode corresponds to the $c$-axis polarized vibrations of FeAs planes with a nominal electron-phonon coupling constant $\lambda _{A_{1g}(2)}$ $\approx$ 0.139 $\pm$ 0.02. Our findings suggest that the superconductivity and nematic state are compatible but competitive at low temperatures, and the $A_{1g}$ phonons play an important role in the formation of Cooper pairs in (Ca$_{0.85}$La$_{0.15}$)$_{10}$(Pt$_3$As$_8$)(Fe$_2$As$_2$)$_5$., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures and Supplemental Materials

The three-dimensional electronic structure and the nature of Ce 4f electrons of the Kondo insulator CeRu4Sn6 are investigated by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, utilizing tunable photon energies. We investigated the electronic structure of the antiferromagnetic Kondo lattice CePd5Al2 using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The experimentally determined band structure of the conduction electrons is predominated by the Pd 4d character. It contains multiple hole and electron Fermi pockets, in good agreement with density functional theory calculations. The Fermi surface is folded over Q0 = (0, 0, 1), manifested by Fermi surface reconstruction and band folding. Ultrafast optical spectroscopy was used to investigate the ultrafast quasiparticle dynamics of antiferromagnetic Kondo lattice CeAuSb$_2$ as a function of temperature and fluence. Our results reveal (i) the opening of a narrow hybridization gap ($\Delta$ $\sim$ 4.5 meV) near the Fermi level below the coherence temperature $T^*$ $\approx$ 100 K, (ii) the coupling of coherent phonon modes with Kondo effect and magnetic orders, leading to the frequencies anomaly at the characteristic temperatures, and (iii) a possible photoinduced nonthermal phase transition. Layered tellurides have been extensively studied as a platform for investigating the Fermi surface (FS) nesting-driven charge density wave (CDW) states. EuTe4, one of quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) binary rare-earth tetratellurides CDW compounds, with unconventional hysteretic transition, is currently receiving much attention. Here, the CDW modulation vector, momentum and temperature dependence of CDW gaps in EuTe4 are investigated using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Our results reveal that (i) a FS nesting vector q ~ 0.67 b* drives the formation of CDW state, (ii) a large anisotropic CDW gap is fully open in the whole FS, and maintains a considerable size even at 300 K, leading to appearance of semiconductor properties, (iii) an abnormal non-monotonic increase of CDW gap in magnitude as a function of temperature, (iv) an extra, larger gap opens at a higher binding energy due to the interaction between the different orbits of the main bands., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

The newly discovered ternary chalcogenide superconductor Bi$_2$Rh$_3$Se$_2$ has attracted growing attention, which provides an opportunity to explore the interplay between charge density wave (CDW) order and superconductivity. However, whether the phase transition at 240 K can be attributed to CDW formation remains controversial. To help resolve the debate, we study the electronic structure study of Bi2Rh3Se2 by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiments, with emphasis on the nature of its high-temperature phase transition at 240 K. Our measurements demonstrate that the phase transition at 240 K is a second-order CDW phase transition. Our results reveal (i) a 2 x 2 CDW order in Bi$_2$Rh$_3$Se$_2$, accompanied by the reconstruction of electronic structure, such as band folding, band splitting, and opening of CDW gaps at and away from Fermi level; (ii) the existence of electron-phonon coupling, which is manifested as an obvious kink and peak-dip-hump structure in dispersion; and (iii) the appearance of a flat band. Our observations thus enable us to shed light on the nature of the CDW order and its interplay with superconductivity in Bi$_2$Rh$_3$Se$_2$., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

We systemically investigate the nature of Ce 4f electrons in structurally layered heavy-fermion compounds CcmMnIn3m+2n (with M =Co, Rh, Ir, and Pt, m=l, 2, n=0 - 2), at low temperature using on-resonance angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Three heavy quasiparticle bands f^0, f^1_7/2 and f^1_5/2 are observed in all compounds, but their intensities and energy locations vary greatly with materials. The strong f^0 states imply that the localized electron behavior dominates the Ce 4f states. The Ce 4f electrons are partially hybridized with the conduction electrons, making them have the dual nature of localization and itinerant. Our quantitative comparison reveals that the f^1_5/2 / f^0 intensity ratio is more suitable to reflect the 4f-state hybridization strength., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

Dirac semimetal PdTe2 single-crystal temperature-dependent ultrafast carrier and phonon dynamics were studied using ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy. Two distinct carrier and coherent phonons relaxation processes were identified in the 5 K - 300 K range. Quantitative analysis revealed a fast relaxation process ({\tau}_f) occurring on a subpicosecond time scale which originated from electron-phonon thermalization. This was followed by a slower relaxation process ({\tau}_s) with a time scale of ~ 7-9.5 ps which originated from phonon-assisted electron-hole recombination. Two significant vibrational modes resolved at all measured temperatures and corresponded to Te atoms in-plane (E_g), and out-of-plane (A_1g), motion. As temperature increased both phonon modes softened markedly. A_1g mode frequency monotonically decreased as temperature increased. Its damping rate remained virtually unchanged. As expected, E_g decreased uniformly as temperatures rose. At temperatures above 80 K, there was insignificant change. Test results suggested that pure dephasing played an important role in the relaxation processes. PdTe2 phonon is thought responsible for its superconductive properties. High-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy were used to study semimetallic 1T - TiTe2 quasiparticle dispersion and dynamics. A kink and a flat band, having the same energy scale and temperature-dependent behaviors along the G-M direction, were detected. Both manifested at low temperatures but blurred as temperature increased. The kink was formed by an electron-phonon coupling. And the localized flat band might be closely related to an electron-phonon coupling. Ultrafast optical spectroscopy identified multiple distinct time scales in the 10-300 K range. Quantitative analysis of the fastest decay process evidenced a significant lifetime temperature dependence at high temperatures, while this starts to change slowly below ~ 100 K where an anomalous Hall coefficient occurred. At low temperature, a coherent A1g phonon mode with a frequency of ~ 4.36 THz was extracted. Frequency temperature dependence suggests that phonon hardening occurs as temperature falls and anharmonic effects can explain it. The three-dimensional electronic structure and Ce 4f electrons of the heavy fermion superconductor CePt2In7 is investigated. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy using variable photon energy establishes the existence of quasi-two and three dimensional Fermi surface topologies. Temperature-dependent 4d-4f on-resonance photoemission spectroscopies reveal that heavy quasiparticle bands begin to form at a temperature well above the characteristic (coherence) temperature T*. We use high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to investigate the electronic structure of the antiferromagnetic heavy fermion compound CePt2In7, which is a member of the CeIn3-derived heavy fermion material family. Weak hybridization among 4f electron states and conduction bands was identified in CePt2In7 at low temperature much weaker than that in the other heavy fermion compounds like CeIrIn5 and CeRhIn5. The Ce 4f spectrum shows fine structures near the Fermi energy, reflecting the crystal electric field splitting of the 4f^1_5/2 and 4f^1_7/2 states. We investigate the hot carrier dynamics of ZrTe$_5$ by ultrafast time-resolved optical reflectivity. Our results reveal a phonon-mediated across-gap recombination, consistent with its temperature-dependent gap nature as observed previously by photoemission. In addition, two distinct relaxations with a kink feature right after initial photoexcitation are well resolved, suggesting the complexity of electron thermalization process. We present an investigation on electronic structure of 1T-TiTe2 material via high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), utilizing tunable photon energy excitations. The typical semimetal-like electronic structure is observed and examined, where multiple hole pockets related to Te 5p bands and one electron pockets related to Ti 3d band are populated. The obtained results reveals i) a pronounced three-dimensional (3D) electronic structure of 1T-TiTe2 with typical semi-metallic features, for both the Ti 3d and the Te 5p states; ii) multiple Fermi surface (FS) sheets and complex band structure; and iii) an obvious kink in dispersion at an energy of about 18 meV below the Fermi energy, the first experimental observation of a kink structure in 1T-TiTe2, which may originate from electron-phonon coupling. We report on systematic investigation of hot carrier dynamics in Ti4O7 by ultrafast time-resolved optical reflectivity. We find the transient indication for its two-step insulator-metal (I-M) transition, in which two phase transitions occur from long-range order bipolaron low-temperature insulating (LI) phase to disordered bipolaron high-temperature insulating (HI) phase at Tc1 and to free carrier metallic (M) phase at Tc2. Our results reveal that photoexcitation can effectively lower down both Tc1 and Tc2 with pump fluence increasing, allowing a light-control of I-M transition. We address a phase diagram that provides a framework for the photoinduced I-M transition and helps the potential use of Ti4O7 for photoelectric and thermoelectric devices., Comment: 5pages,4figures

The relation between pseudogap (PG) and superconducting (SC) gap, whether PG is a precursor of SC or they coexist or compete, is a long-standing controversy in cuprate high-temperature supercondutors. Here, we report ultrafast time-resolved optical reflectivity investigation of the dynamic densities and relaxations of PG and SC quasiparticles (QPs) in the underdoped $\rm{Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+\delta}}$ ($T_c$ = 82 K) single crystals. We find evidence of two distinct PG components in the positive reflectivity changes in the PG state, characterized by relaxation timescales of $\tau_{fast}$ $\approx$ 0.2 ps and $\tau_{slow}$ $\approx$ 2 ps with abrupt changes in both amplitudes $A_{fast}$ and $A_{slow}$ at the PG-opening temperature $T^*$. The former presents no obvious change at $T_c$ and coexists with the SC QP. The latter's amplitude starts decreasing at the SC phase fluctuation $T_p$ and vanishes at $T_c$ followed by a negative amplitude signifying the emergence of the SC QP, therefore suggesting a competition with superconductivity., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We present systematic studies of the transient dynamics of GaAs by ultrafast time-resolved optical reflectivity. In photo excited non-equilibrium states, we found a sign reverse in transient reflectivity spectra $\Delta R/R$ (t $>$ 0), from positive around room temperature to negative at cryogenic temperatures. The former corresponds to a transient free carrier metallic state, while the latter is attributed to an exciton insulating state, in which the transient electronic properties is mostly dominated by excitons, resulting in a transient metal-insulator transition (MIT). Two transition temperatures (T$_1$ and T$_2$) are well identified by analysing the intensity change of the time-resolved optical spectra. We found that photoexcited MIT starts emerging at T$_1$ as high as $\sim$ 230 K, in terms of a negative dip feature at 0.4 ps, and becomes stabilized below T$_2$ associated with a negative constant after 40 ps in spectra. Our results address a phase diagram that provides a framework for MIT through temperature and photoexcitation, and shed light on the understanding of light-semiconductor interaction and exciton physics., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

The electronic structure of the cleaved perovskite (CH3NH3PbBr3) single crystal was studied in an ultra-high vacuum (UHV) system by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and inverse photoelectron spectroscopy (IPES). Highly reproducible dispersive features of the valence bands were observed with nice symmetry about the Brillouin zone center and boundaries. The largest dispersion width was found to be ~0.73 eV and ~0.98 eV along the {\Gamma}X and {\Gamma}M directions, respectively. The effective mass of the holes was estimated to be ~0.59 m0. The quality of the surface was verified by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The elemental composition was investigated by high resolution x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). We report angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) experiments probing deep into the hidden order (HO) state of URu2Si2, utilizing tunable photon energies with sufficient energy and momentum resolution to detect the near Fermi surface (FS) behavior. Our results reveal: (i) the full itinerancy of the 5f electrons; (ii) the crucial three-dimensional (3D) k-space nature of the FS and its critical nesting vectors, in good comparison with density-functional theory calculations, and (iii) the existence of hot-spot lines and pairing of states at the FS, leading to FS gapping in the HO phase.
