In this article, the author attempts to show how French disciplinary didactiques were created and have developed. At the beginning, nobody could forecast the future and whether the didactiques would one day be recognised by the academic and instructional systems. The French didactiques are strongly based on school subject matters. Since the creation of Instituts Universitaire de Formation des Maîtres (University Teacher Training Institutes) in 1991, they are completely integrated in French educational research and training systems: a major evolution in education that has taken about 40 years. More recently, a new field of research is developing in the French-speaking area: comparative didactics that groups together disciplinary didacticians in a true research programme.

We describe how unskilled manual workers and office staff perceive everyday situations involving static and domestic electricity. The data were gathered in interviews about situations relating to static electricity in cars or in an electronic assembly workshop, and the functioning of different devices (e.g. a lamp, a circuit-tester, a washing machine). Different phenomena were discussed (e.g. electric shocks, short circuits). The interviews were analysed within a framework of mental models. Despite having learnt about electricity in school or during their in-service training, the subjects made little reference to formalized electricity. The models they used were built up from their own experience. Electricity is often considered as a substance or a fluid easily transferable from one place to another. Conceptions about grounding show that the earth is assimilated to a vast reservoir into which electricity flows and is then lost. The human body is also thought of as a reservoir that can accept a limited amount of electricity.

L’enseignement de l’electricite elementaire utilise largement des schemas de circuits electriques. Differentes experiences presentees ici montrent qu’aucun apprentissage specifique de leur lecture et de leur comprehension n’est fait en classe. Au contraire l’enseignement renforce le role de certains types de schemas (les schemas canoniques), ce qui contribue a organiser les connaissances des eleves sous forme de prototypes. Ainsi les schemas deviennent des objets autonomes deconnectes des concepts de l’electricite. Des experiences d’apprentissage de l’electricite tendant a modifier les pratiques actuelles seront presentees. Elles, sont basees sur la prise en compte des conceptions naives des eleves. Les representations graphiques servent alors de support a l’apprentissage des concepts de l’electricite.

Im Rahmen einer Ausstellung für Kleinkinder in der Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie (Paris) sind zwei Forschungsarbeiten durchgeführt worden, die zum Ziel hatten, einzuschätzen, ob der Einsatz eines Multimediadispositivs zur Simulierung von Farbmischungen es diesen Kindern später erlauben würde, die passenden Mischungen anzufertigen, um bestimmte Farbtöne zu erhalten. Die erste Studie wurde an zwanzig Kindern im Alter zwischen zwei Jahren und sechs Monaten und 5 Jahren und sechs Monaten durchgeführt, die in einem experimentellen Manipulationsrahmen unter der Leitung eines erfahrenen Tutors beobachtet wurden. In den durchgeführten Analysen, die zeigen sollten, von welchem Alter an die Kinder fähig sind, die mit Hilfe des Simulators unter günstigen Begleitumständen erlernten Verfahren zu bewerkstelligen, stellt sich heraus, dass das Alter von vier Jahren für das betrachtete Wissensgebiet eine Etappe darstellt. Die zweite Studie betraf daher Kinder von mindestens vier Jahren (25 insgesamt), die im üblichen Kontext, begleitet von einem Elternteil oder einem Tutor, beobachtet wurden. Der Vergleich ihres Verhaltens bei einem Vor-und einem Nachtest (Ausmalen mit konkretem Material) hat es ermöglicht, den Beitrag des Simulatorgebrauchs auszuwerten. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass dieser es erlauben kann, sich Physikkenntnisse anzueignen, aber dass die Rolle des Erwachsenen, der als Tutor fungiert, entscheidend für Kinder unter 5 Jahren ist., In an exhibition for young children at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris two studies sought to evaluate whether the use of multimedia equipment which simulate the mixing of colours helped the children later put together the mixtures necessary to obtain certain colours. The fi rst study, which was to determine the pivotal age for positive results, concerned 20 children aged two and a half to fi ve and a half who were observed whilst carrying out trial-and-error experiments under the supervision of a qualifi ed guide. The results showed that children 4 and over had acquired the transfer knowledge necessary from the simulator and guide to obtain the desired results. The second study concerned children aged 4 and over (25 in all) who were observed under normal conditions and who were accompanied either by a parent or a guide. The results of their work in a pre-and post-test (i. e. colouring work with material objects) exposed the infl uence of the simulator. The results show that simulators allow children to acquire knowledge of the physical world but that the role of the adult guides responsible for the visits remains crucial for children under the age of 5., Dans le contexte d’une exposition pour jeunes enfants à la Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, deux études ont été réalisées avec l’objectif d’évaluer si l’utilisation d’un dispositif multimédia simulant des mélanges de couleurs leur permet ultérieurement de réaliser les mélanges appropriés pour obtenir des couleurs déterminées. La première étude a porté sur vingt enfants âgés de 2 ans et 6 mois à 5 ans et 6 mois observés dans un contexte expérimental de manipulation, sous la conduite d’un tuteur expert. Les analyses conduites, visant à cerner l’âge à partir duquel les enfants sont capables de mettre en œuvre des procédures acquises au moyen du simulateur dans des conditions favorables d’accompagnement, mettent en évidence que pour le domaine de connaissance considéré, l’âge de 4 ans semble constituer un palier. La seconde étude a donc concerné des enfants âgés d’au moins 4 ans (vingt-cinq au total) observés dans le contexte habituel d’utilisation, accompagnés soit d’un parent soit d’un animateur. La comparaison de leurs conduites à un prétest et à un posttest (tâche de coloriage avec des objets matériels) a permis d’évaluer l’apport de l’usage du simulateur. Les résultats montrent que celui-ci peut permettre l’acquisition de connaissances sur le monde physique, mais que le rôle de l’adulte qui exerce le tutorat reste déterminant pour les enfants de moins de 5 ans., En el contexto de una exposición destinada a los niños pequeños en la Ciudad de las Ciencias y de la Industria de París se llevaron a cabo dos estudios con el objetivo de estimar si la utilización de un dispositivo multimedia que simulaba mezclas de colores, les permitía más tarde realizar las mezclas adecuadas para obtener colores determinados. El primer estudio se realizó con veinte niños de edad de 2 años y medio a 5 años y medio, observados en un contexto experimental de manipulación bajo la conducta de un tutor experto. Los análisis llevados a cabo, que tenían como meta determinar la edad a partir de la cual los niños son capaces de ejecutar los procedimientos adquiridos gracias a un simulador en condiciones favorables de acompañamiento, pusieron en evidencia que, en lo que se refi ere al sector del conocimiento considerado, la edad de 4 años parecía constituir un mínimo. El segundo estudio incumbió pués a niños de al menos 4 años (25 en total) observados en el contexto habitual de utilización, o acompañados, sea de un padre, sea de un monitor. This paper tries to explain why students from the same class with the same teaching do progress differently in their conceptual change. Here we have studied students’ conceptual change regarding volcanoes in a French 5 th grade. The different students’ preconceptions, before teaching, have been categorized and related to well-known historical and epistemological obstacles. After specific teaching, the objectives, of which were to overcome these obstacles, we have looked at how conceptual change has taken place for each student. In order to explain the observed differences, we firstly considered a possible effect of classical sociological variables (gender, age, parents’ jobs and so on). This attempt failed. Secondly, we introduced the concept of individual “relation to knowledge” and determined this relation to knowledge for each student. Taking this variable into consideration, the diversity of conceptual changes is much better explained.

deux hypotheses pour l'expliquer Les recherches en didactique des sciences et de la technologie ont maintenant plus de trente ans. Elles se sont interessees majoritairement a l'enseignement des sciences et de la technologie dans l'enseignement primaire et au college. Pour le lycee, ce sont les sciences physiques et la biologie enseignees dans les lycees generaux auxquelles se sont interesses en tout premier lieu les didacticiens. Tres peu de travaux ont ete effectues sur l'enseignement des sciences et des techniques dans l'enseignement technique (les enseignements de STI ( 1)) ou professionnel.

The student model in four Intelligent Tutoring Systemsdealing with the learning of electricity is discussed with respect to cognitive modeling. The issue is to know if the student model has taken into account the results of research in physics education. Different kinds of modeling have been proposed in order to explain the student errors: mental models, sequential reasoning and electrical circuit prototypes.

We describe how adults understand situations where electricity is involved. All the situations are highly contextualized: they are taken from either everyday life or working experience. The test situations deal with static electricity and domestic electricity (alternating current). The models so built up by these adults are based on their own experience. These experiential models are very far from the conceptual ones. Often electricity is viewed as a substance or as a fluid which can be transferred from one place to another. Conceptions about grounding are also discussed and the earth is considered as a big reservoir in which electricity flows and then is lost.

Two projects of learning environments in mechanics, still in progress, are described. Their approach is quite different. In the first project, the student has to model a physical phenomenon represented by pictures: stroboscopic photographs, series of slides or motion pictures. The software enables data acquisition and processing, and gives choice among different representation spaces. The student should build a plausible model and then confront it with data. This project is clearly based on the analysis of physicists’ activity in the laboratory. The second project aims at concept learning. A major difficulty for students is the understanding of the concept of “force”. In order to overcome this difficulty it seems appropriate to introduce the concept of interaction between two bodies early in the teaching. The software proposes many situations where the student has to describe which bodies interact together. Thus the student builds gradually the concept of interaction by discrimination and generalization. In the latter case, the reference is rather educational psychology.

Towards a cognitive approach of the educational issues ? The didactical issues are now on the agenda of educational researchers. We will show how they can be discussed with a cognitive point of view. The issues exposed in this paper are relative to the origin of the learner's naïve ideas (or mental models), individual or collective (in classroom or in small groups) problem solving and the socialized learning which finally will set up the question of meaning in educational activities. The examples will be taken from physics education. The origin of naive ideas will be discussed within diSessa's approach of phenomenological primitives. About problem solving, we will show that it is possible, thanks to some cognitive guiding, to help student to build an efficient initial representation of a problem. Beside the individual dimension of learning, we will also discuss the social dimension of instructional sequences by presenting how the sociocognitive conflict can be used in class situation in order to improve the students 'learning and problem solving., Actuellement les questions didactiques sont à l'ordre du jour dans le champ éducatif. Nous montrerons que ces questions peuvent être discutées d'un point de vue cognitif. Les questions abordées dans cet article sont relatives à l'origine des conceptions (ou modèles mentaux) des apprenants, la résolution de problèmes individuelle et collective (en classe ou en petit groupe) et l'apprentissage socialisé qui finalement posera la question du sens des activités didactiques. Les exemples choisis sont dans le domaine de la physique. L'origine des conceptions sera discutée dans le cadre de la problématique des primitives phénoménologiques de diSessa. A propos de la résolution de problème, nous montrerons qu'il est possible, grâce à des aides cognitives, d'aider l'apprenant à construire une représentation initiale efficace du problème. A côté de la dimension individuelle des apprentissages, nous discuterons aussi la dimension sociale des activités didactiques en présentant comment le conflit sociocognitif peut être utilisé en situation de classe pour améliorer l'apprentissage et la résolution de problèmes des élèves., Caillot Michel. modern Design in a practical way. How is this passed on in the Applied Arts studies which result in design professions? This thesis questions the relation between scientific knowledge taught at school with a specific focus on the baccalauréat Sciences et Technologies Industrielles which specialism is Applied Arts. Besides, a survey of the teachers will pose the question of their professional identity andof their contextual aspect. Therefore, the research suggests an approach of these identities through the relation of the teachers to the academic knowledge, that is to say to the scientific knowledge. Althoughthe Applied Arts studies hold a notion of interrelation, the study of the curriculum points out how scientific knowledge and the relation to the teaching of this scientific knowledge remain an academic discipline in itself. This raises the question of the position of an academic discipline in a curriculum and how this curriculum implies a varied relation of both the teachers and the students to the subject.Besides, the teachers' professional identities are part and parcel of their daily tasks which relate to the teachers' own reference in the sense that they interact with their teaching practice. The teacher is defined in a precise context and the question of their knowledge and of that conveyed by the curriculum then emerges. What erases the aspect of a specific discipline is understanding the differences between the professional identities of the teachers through the dimension of the identity and its relation to knowledge. We have studied the question through two corpuses of teachers, Physics teachers and Applied Arts teachers., L'évolution des Sciences et Techniques et les problématiques qu'elles engendrent influencent parfois de manière concrète le Design contemporain. Comment cela est-il transmis dans la formation en ArtsAppliqués qui conduit aux métiers du Design ? Á travers l'exemple du baccalauréat Sciences et Technologies industrielles spécialité Arts Appliqués, la thèse interroge les rapports aux savoirs scientifiques transmis par l'école. Par ailleurs, notre questionnement sur les enseignants nous conduits à poser la question de leurs identités professionnelles et de leur aspect contextuel. Ainsi, la recherchepropose une approche de ces identités à partir des rapports aux savoirs scolaires des enseignants, ici les savoirs scientifiques. L'étude curriculaire montre comment les savoirs scientifiques et les rapportsaux savoirs scientifiques transmis restent disciplinaires dans une formation qui pourtant est transversale. Elle conduit à s'interroger sur la place occupée par une discipline dans un cursus scolaire qui fait varier les rapports que les enseignants comme les élèves peuvent établir avec elle. Par ailleurs,les identités professionnelles interviennent dans la pratique quotidienne de l'enseignant, lui-même porteur de ses propres références et agissent dans le sens qu'il donne à son enseignement.L'enseignement prend ainsi son sens dans un contexte précis, se pose alors la question du rapport aux savoirs des enseignants et de celui véhiculé par les programmes. La dimension identitaire du rapportaux savoirs permet de comprendre les différences entre les identités professionnelles des enseignants leur donnant ainsi un aspect moins disciplinaire. Nous interrogeons cette question à travers deuxcorpus d'enseignants, des enseignants de Sciences Physiques et des enseignants d'Arts Appliqués.

This research is focused on the cognitive contribution of media devices which are displayed in interactive scientific exhibitions for young children, in different contexts of accompaniment of the children. Two studies, based on a computer simulator allowing mixtures of paints, were conducted successively within the "3-5 years old" exhibition of the Cité des enfants ("Children's corner") in the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie (Paris). Forty five children less than six years old were observed: twenty under the control of the same expert tutor, then twenty five under the control of one of their parents. To characterise interactions in the course of activity, a specific model was developed: the media square. Analysis of the parent/child interactions showed that such tutoring has an impact only from a definite age, relating to the considered field of knowledge, and seems essentially connected to the informative contents of exchanges. In addition, the simulation activity seems to have mainly the function of a formal exercise for the child. The impact of the use of simulation type devices, displayed in scientific exhibitions, thus depends on the previous experience of the child, but also on the tutoring quality of the adult accompanying the child during use of the simulation. This last point raises the question of the adult's help in the child's conceptualisation, from the point of view of discourse, but also in the use, on the level of manipulation., La recherche s'intéresse à l'apport au plan cognitif des dispositifs médiatiques présentés dans les expositions scientifiques interactives pour jeunes enfants, dans différents contextes d'accompagnement. Deux études ont été réalisées successivement dans l'exposition des 3/5 ans de la Cité des enfants à la Cité des sciences et de l'industrie (Paris), à propos d'un simulateur informatique proposant de réaliser des mélanges de peintures. Quarante-cinq enfants âgés de moins de six ans, ont été observés : vingt sous la conduite d'un tuteur expert, puis vingt-cinq sous la conduite d'un de leur parent. Afin de caractériser les interactions dyadiques en cours d'activité, nous avons eu recours à un modèle : le carré médiatique. Il ressort de l'analyse des interactions adulte-enfant que la tutelle exercée n'a d'impact qu'à partir d'un certain âge relatif au domaine de connaissances considéré, et apparaît essentiellement liée au contenu informationnel des échanges. Par ailleurs, l'activité de simulation semble avoir principalement fonction d'exercice formel pour l'enfant. L'impact de l'utilisation des dispositifs de type simulation, présentés dans les expositions scientifiques, serait donc subordonné à l'expérience préalable de l'enfant, mais aussi à la qualité de la tutelle déployée par l'adulte accompagnateur. Ce dernier point pose la question de l'aide à la conceptualisation, sur le plan du discours, mais aussi à l'utilisation, sur le plan manipulatoire.

Taking into account the importance of the role of parents in accompanying their children (3-5 years old) through the discovery of an interactive scientific and technical exhibition, this research offers : (1) a typology of parents' practical attitudes according to their relevance to activities' context and children's capacities; (2) the elaboration of a Parents Training Scheme (PTS) aimed mainly at changing parents' attitudes towards their children, including a film to stimulate discussion and experience sharing among parents; (3) an evaluation of the PTS. The study was conducted within the "3-5 years old" exhibition of the Cité des enfants ("Children's corner") of the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie (Paris). A total of 67 parent-child couples were observed (60 for the development of the typology of practical attitudes and 7 for the evaluation of the PTS) and their spoken exchanges transcribed and analysed in reference to different models (tutorial acts, conversational pragmatics, and parents' distancing acts). The hypothesis suggesting that previous awareness of their role as tutor modifies the way parents accompany their children is verified. Analyses show a sharp and individualised evolution from their first visit to the museum to their second one, in between which the PTS intervened. These data are discussed in relation to previous studies on parent training., A partir de la prise en considération de l'importance du rôle des parents accompagnant leurs enfants (3-5 ans) dans la découverte d'une exposition interactive à caractère scientifique et technique, la recherche propose : (1) une typologie des modes d'intervention des parents en fonction de leur caractère plus ou moins adapté au contexte des activités et aux capacités des enfants ; (2) la conception d'un Dispositif de Sensibilisation Parentale (DSP) et notamment d'un film - support de débats et de témoignages de la part des parents - qui vise surtout un changement de regard du parent sur son enfant ; (3) une évaluation du DSP. L'étude a été réalisée dans l'exposition des " 3/5 ans " de la Cité des Enfants, à la Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie à Paris. Au total, 67 dyades parent-enfant ont été observées (60 dans le cadre de la recherche d'une typologie des modes d'intervention et sept dyades dans le cadre de l'évaluation du DSP) et leurs échanges transcrits et analysés en référence à différents modèles (actes tutoriels, pragmatique conversationnelle et actes de distanciation parentale). L'hypothèse selon laquelle une action de sensibilisation préalable des parents à leur rôle de tuteur a un impact sur la manière dont ils accompagnent leur enfant se trouve confirmée. Les analyses montrent en effet une évolution marquée et très individualisée entre leur première visite et leur seconde visite au musée, après que les parents aient été impliqués dans le DSP. Ces données sont discutées dans le contexte des études sur l'éducation parentale.
