The nonangiogenic lung tumour is characterized by neoplastic cells co-opting the pre-existent vasculature and filling the alveoli space. 3-dimensional reconstruction of the tumour reveals that this particular tumour progresses without neovascularization and there is no major destruction of the lung's architectural integrity. A new monoclonal antibody, 4KB51, is described which labels the majority of B ceils in blood and in mantle and marginal zones but not germinal centre lymphocytes or plasma cells. Antibody 4KB51 also stains monocytes, neutrophils and the majority of T cells. It recognizes an intracellular antigen of 160,000 MW (unreduced) and 68,000 MW (reduced). Antibody 4KB51 labels the turnout cells in all cases of hairy cell leukaemia and in four of the 16 cases of centrocytic B-cell lymphoma studied. No labelling of the other lymphomas (114 cases) or lymphoid leukaemias (13 cases) tested was seen. Antibody 4KB51 may be of value in defining B-cell subsets and in the differential diagnosis of hairy cell leukaemia and centrocytic lymphomas. A new monoclonal antibody, GHI/61, which labels the majority of monocytes and tissue macrophages is described. This antibody recognizes an intracellular antigen of 130,000 MW (reduced) and 110,000 MW (unreduced). Using biochemical, flow cytometry and immunocytochemical studies antibody GHI/61 was shown to recognize the same antigen as the previously described antibodies Ber-MAC3, Ki-M8 and SM4. On the basis of the results obtained, antibodies GHI/61, SM4, Ber-MAC3 and Ki-M8 should form a new CD group at the next Leucocyte Typing Workshop. Since the antigen recognized by the antibody GHI/61 is relatively easy to purify, the sequencing and the isolation of the gene encoding this protein should be possible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present paper describes two new MoAbs, GHI/75 and VMP55, which were raised against a glycoprotein enriched lysate of hairy cell leukaemia. These antibodies recognized a new antigen or 72 kD (unreduced) and 83 kD (reduced) molecular weight. GHI/75 and VMP55 gave very strong staining of plasma cells, moderate labelling of circulating B cells but only weak staining of monocytes., some tissue macrophages and lymphoid cells. Neither antibody reacted with neutrophils or any non-haematopoietic cells. Both antibodies, however, strongly labelled the tumour cells in hairy cell leukaemia, multiple mycloma, plasmacytoma and lymphoplasmacytic lymphomas. No staining was seen of the neoplaslic cells in Hodgkin's disease, myctoid leukaemia or T cell lymphomas. The two antibodies. GHI/75 and VMP55. may be of value in the differential diagnosis of hairy cell leukaemias and plasma cell neoplasms. A monoclonal antibody KB90 recognizing a molecule containing two polypeptide subunits of 140 and 98 kd is described. Biochemical studies following high pH dissociation of the molecule showed KB90 to bind to an epitope on the 140 kd subunit. The molecule recognized by KB90 appears to correspond to the p150/95 molecule in the family of leucocyte differentiation antigens of which the LFA-I and Mac- I molecules are members. Analysis of the immunocytochemical reactivity of KB90 shows that it stains monocytes, tissue macrophages, granulocytes and a small population of lymphocytes.
