Software is a fundamental pillar of modern scientific research, across all fields and disciplines. However, there is a lack of adequate means to cite and reference software due to the complexity of the problem in terms of authorship, roles, and credits. This complexity is further increased when it is considered over the lifetime of a software that can span up to several decades. Building upon the internal experience of Inria, the French research institute for digital sciences, we provide in this article a contribution to the ongoing efforts in order to develop proper guidelines and recommendations for software citation and reference. Namely, we recommend: first, a richer taxonomy for software contributions with a qualitative scale; second, to put humans at the heart of the evaluation; and third, to distinguish citation from reference. Chatbots are going to be the main tool for automated conversations with customers. Still, there is no consistent methodology for choosing a suitable chatbot platform for a particular business. This paper proposes a new method for chatbot platform evaluation. To describe the current state of chatbot platforms, two high-level approaches to chatbot platform design are discussed and compared. WYSIWYG platforms aim to simplicity but may lack some advanced features. All-purpose chatbot platforms require extensive technical skills and are more expensive but give their users more freedom in chatbot design. We provide an evaluation of six major chatbot solutions. The proposed method for the chatbot selection is demonstrated on two sample businesses – a large bank and a small taxi service. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Complex networks are ubiquitous to several computer science domains. Centrality measures are an important analysis mechanism to uncover vital elements of complex networks. However, these metrics have high computational costs and requirements that hinder their applications in large real-world networks. In this tutorial, we explain how the use of neural network learning algorithms can render the application of the metrics in complex networks of arbitrary size. Moreover, the tutorial describes how to identify the best configuration for neural network training and learning such for tasks, besides presenting an easy way to generate and acquire training data.We do so by means of a general methodology, using complex network models adaptable to any application. We show that a regression model generated by the neural network successfully approximates the metric values and therefore is a robust, effective alternative in real-world applications. The methodology and proposed machine-learning model use only a fraction of time with respect to other approximation algorithms, which is crucial in complex network applications. The prevalence and ease of electronic communication, specifically email through patient portals associated with electronic medical records or via traditional enterprise email clients (e.g., Outlook) and video, have resulted in increased use for rapid communication between practitioners and their patients. Concerns regarding patient privacy and compliance with the regulations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) remain a barrier to routine incorporation of electronic communication into practice. Furthermore, capital investment, implementation, and maintenance costs may provide additional barriers. These long-standing concerns have been heightened and tested by the COVID-19 pandemic. Best-practice guidelines for the secure and safe use of electronic communication with reproductive care patients are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mobile technologies can be, and have been, exploited in terrorist activities. In this paper, we highlight the importance of mobile forensics in the investigation of such activities. Specifically, using a series of controlled experiments on Android and Windows devices, we demonstrate how mobile forensics techniques can be used to recover evidentiary artefacts from client devices. There are three simulation scenarios, namely: (1) information propagation, (2) information concealment and (3) communications. The experiments used three popular cloud apps (Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive), five communication apps (Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype and Viber), and two email apps (GMail and Microsoft Outlook). The evidential data was collected and analysed using mobile forensics and network packet analyser tools. The correlation of evidence artefacts would support to infer illegal use of mobile devices. This study also highlights the extent of acquired evidence between Android and Windows devices, in which Android presents more evidentiary value. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Information technology (IT) applications have become an essential part of hotel operations. Consequently, hospitality schools aim to provide their graduates with the skills and tools that are necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing and developing industry environment. This article investigates perspectives of hotel industry professionals on the IT skills of hospitality school graduates. Based on an in-depth literature review, a questionnaire was developed and data was collected from 110 hospitality industry professionals. Study results indicate that hospitality schools’ students need better preparation in the areas of “using spreadsheet programs” (i.e., Microsoft Excel), “using email systems” (i.e., Outlook Express, Thunderbird), “using word processing programs” (i.e., Microsoft Word), “presenting data in an efficient manner,” “using point of sale systems” (i.e., Micros), and “analyzing numerical data with computers” (i.e., SPSS, Excel). Study results should be useful to hospitality educators in making sure that the IT skills needed by the industry from hospitality school graduates are covered in the curriculum. Knowing about the evolution of a term can significantly help when searching for relevant information, especially in case of sudden evolutions (e.g. as of dramatical changes in political situations). Here, some terms get a completely new meaning or are used in new or different ways. In mobile situations it is important to be able to effectively retrieve information, since this is usually done in a hurry and interaction possibilities with mobile devices are limited. In this paper we describe a methodology using word sense discrimination to discover term evolution. We present two mobile interfaces for easy access and exploration of this evolution, as well as a user-study to show its usefulness. We conclude the paper with an outlook of further research possibilities in this new topic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
