This article examines the ways in which Protestant ministers, laypeople and foreign missionaries mediated between religious and secular ideologies in Brazil and took part in international theological debates. It concentrates on a group of church pastors and lay writers based in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro who produced and circulated Christian literature widely across evangelical networks. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Protestants engaged with both the local reverberations of the Catholic revival, with its impact on the hierarchy and devotional practices of the Brazilian Church, and the secularist leanings of the Brazilian intelligentsia. Focusing on a variety of high- and low-level publications, including periodicals, tracts, theological compendia, religious controversies and sermons, the article examines how Brazilian evangelicals appropriated Protestant theology and channeled its concepts and ideas into local arguments.

The nymph ofCloeodes dantasp. nov. is described from male and female nymphs collected from highland streams in the Caribbean Slope of the Costa Rica Central Volcanic Mountain Range. Adults are unknown. In addition,C. excogitatusandC. redactusare recorded for the first time in the country.Cloeodes dantasp. nov.can be differentiated from all described species by the predominantly brownish coloration on females and a similar coloration on males but with segments VII–IX light yellow and light brown, with no conspicuous marks or patterns; abundant scale-bases throughout most parts of the body; hindwings pads absent; the presence of three spines in the corners of the posterior margin of sternum III, and the posterior margin of tergum III with 28–30 spines on each side of the middle line (spine with a base width up to 0.5× spine length).

Тhe problem of analysis of contention activity of skilled footballers on the stage of preparation to the higher achievements has an important theoretical and methodical value for an estimation and ground of traditional approaches of construction of educational-training process and system of realization of competitions in football. On this time the far of researches is executed from the study of motive activity of footballers in the conditions of competitions, as a result of that the got is given about character and volume of actions of players both with a ball, and without him. A footballer in times of game runs into a ball on the average from 34 to 70 times, thus total time of direct contact presents an about 135-165 p. it is Set that most number one times a ball is owned by the players of middle line, least are centre-backs. Resulted the given is got with application of modern technologies (program "InStat Football"). Fusion of intestines and omentum after surgery, mainly with an abdominal wound, is a frequent phenomenon, proven by a number of clinical observations during repeated operations in the same subjects. Meanwhile, the question of the reasons for such a phenomenon, despite attempts to experimentally resolve it (Snger, Dembowski, Kelterborn), remains open to this day. According to the opinion of the last mentioned authors, the main cause of adhesions in the abdominal cavity after operations is infection, the accretion of the omentum to the middle line is caused by the release of air and the local inflammatory process; further - sloughing of the epithelium and scars of the peritoneum in uncomplicated cases do not give adhesions, ligatures in the abdominal cavity for the most part also do not cause adhesions, but show a tendency to encapsulate.

Therefore, we justify the two-dimensional viscoelastic model of Koiter for all kind of viscoelastic shells.

Our aim was to determine parameters of motor evoked potential (MEP) from the tongue in healthy persons.Methods. 25 healthy individuals (average age 22.4 ± 6.2 years, range 18–41 years, 12 females & 13 males) were enrolled. All underwent diagnostic TMS, single-pulse protocol, 90-sm round coil, Neiro-MS-D device. Coil was placed on Fz point, registration was performed by the surface electrode on the middle line of the tongue.Results. MEP was registered in all cases, its average latency was 7.14 ± 0.63 ms, average amplitude — 1.79 ± 1.09 μV. There were no gender & age differences.Conclusion. In healthy people aged 18–41 years MEP from the tongue may be registered in 100% of the cases; its average latency is 7.14 ± 0.63 ms, average amplitude — 1.79 ± 1.09 μV; there are no significant age & gender differences. TMS of the tongue according to this protocol is relatively simple, not time-and efforts-consuming & may be widely implemented in clinical neurophysiology.

Objective To describe our surgical techniques, analyze their safety and their postoperative outcomes for foramen magnum tumors (FMTs). Methods From 1986 to 2014, 34 patients with FMTs underwent surgeries using either the lateral suboccipital approach, standard midline suboccipital craniotomy, or the far lateral approach, depending on the anatomic location of the lesions. Results In the present series, there were 22 (64.7%) female and 12 (35.2%) male patients. The age of the patients ranged from 12 to 63 years old. We observed 1 operative mortality (2.9%). A total of 28 patients (82.3%) achieved a score of 4 or 5 in the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). Gross total resection (GTR) was obtained in 22 (64.7%) patients. After the surgery, 9 (26%) patients developed lower cranial nerve dysfunction (LCNd) weakness. The follow-up varied from 1 to 24 years (mean: 13.2 years). Conclusion The majority of tumors located in the FM can be safely and efficiently removed using either the lateral sub occipital approach, standard middle line sub occipital craniotomy, or the far lateral approach, depending on the anatomic location of the lesions.

The wide incision of malignant extracerebral tumors of the skin located at the middle line of the head is often associated with a problem of closing the emerged defect. Local tissues are not sufficient and the implementation of free plastic is not desirable due to the unfavorable conditions for the free flap survival, due to the features of the graft bed and the difficulty of immobilization and fixation of the flap. We have developed the method for closing the wound of the middle line of the head, which is based on the use of four adjacent symmetrical flaps. Flaps are cut in the directions of greatest mobility and elongation of the skin of the head, the movement of which is angled to the direction of the greatest elongation of the skin of the arch of the skull, taking into account the branching of the blood supplying (nourishing) branches of the superficial temporal arteries of the head. Due to the proposed method, it becomes possible to close the defect of the skin of the middle line of the head cosmetically and most aesthetically and at the earliest, taking into account the blood supply and areas of innervation of this damaged area of the head. The advantage of using four relatively small skin flaps on a wide basis, taking into account the areas of blood supply and innervation compared to one or two large rotary flaps is that the smaller length of the flap creates more favorable conditions for preserving their blood supply, innervation and for the healing of the wound.

Ossifying fibro myxoid tumor (OFMT) is a rare soft tissue neoplasm and may present diagnostic difficulty. Only a few cases of oral cavity are described. A 49 –year-old male presented with a mass in the vestibular region of the mandible middle line, complaining of pain for the last three months. The mass contains spindle and polygonal mesenchymal cells on the myxoid ground in histochemical examinations. The tumor had a partial fibrous capsule surrounded by a non-metaplastic bone trabeculae. Histopathological examination was typical for OFMT. Although most cases of OFMT follow a benign course, recurrence and metastasis have been reported. Therefore, this type of tumor should be followed carefully.

All litters were from hybrid shows and purebreed boars, registered Duroc, Yorkshire, Chester-White and Hampshire. Looking at the frequency on cryptorchidism, umbilical hernia and pseudohermaphroditsm, the expected value of boars being double and triple carriers of a single gene, the Independence hypothesis is rejected when it is compared with the observed values. An hypothesis of a single gene affecting the middle line is proposed. The consideration must be taken when selecting breeding animals in order to avoid the presentation of these and probably other middle line deffects.

Introduction Low back pain after spinal anesthesia is of concern in lithotomy position. During our study, low back pain in both midline and paramedian approaches after spinal anesthesia in lithotomy position was compared. Material and methods Spinal anesthesia was performed by two approaches of midline and paramedian by an expert. The midline at middle line and paramedian at 1 cm inferior and 1 cm lateral to the spinous process performed with the needle type of Quincke 25G. The severity of back pain in patients was measured with numerical rating scale method by an anesthesiology assistant 24 and 72 h and a week after surgery. Results A total of 139 patients were studied. After 24 h, back pain in the midline group was 21% and in the paramedian group was 25.4%, respectively. There were no significant differences between them. In the first 24 h, the only significant variable was the number of tries. In patients with ≥ 2 times of tries for performing spinal anesthesia, multivariate analysis of patients showed back pain to be 4.7 times more common compared to single try (OR 4.70, CI 1.79–10.18; p = 0.001). Conclusion There were no significant differences between the two methods of midline and paramedian approaches after spinal anesthesia in the incidence of back pain. However, two or more times of tries compared with one time try had increased risk of low back pain.

A large number of water resources development projects have significantly changed the natural flow regime of the middle and lower reaches of the Hanjiang River, especially the Danjiangkou Reservoir, cascade reservoirs, the South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Line Project and their compensation projects, completed in 1973, 2000, and 2014, respectively. The daily streamflow data of three stations in the middle and lower mainstream of the Hanjiang River are divided into four periods corresponding to pre-impact (1954&ndash, 1973), interim (1974&ndash, 1999), transition (2000&ndash, 2013) and post-impact (2014&ndash, 2018). Eco-flow metrics and indicators of hydrologic alteration (IHA) were used to study the change of natural flow regime. The annual streamflow decreased gradually during the four periods. The construction of the Danjiangkou Reservoir increased streamflow, minimum flow value, and the number of reversals in the dry season along the middle and lower course of the Hanjiang River. Moreover, the dam reduced streamflow, maximum flow value, low pulse duration, and the rise and fall rates in the wet season. Additionally, the streamflow reduced corresponding to the completion of cascade reservoirs and the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project. In particular, the streamflow decreased drastically from July to September, affected by the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Furthermore, the compensation projects, such as the Yangtze-Hanjiang Water Diversion Project, mitigate the reduction of streamflow from July to September in the downstream. The study provides insights into the ecological and economic benefits associated with water resources development and use in the mainstream of the middle and lower course of the Hanjiang River for the achievement of sustainable development in the region.

The roughness and uncertainty are important parameters of surface morphology. The least square middle line method is often used to estimate the roughness and its uncertainty. However, the roughness and its uncertainty obtained by the least square middle line method are inaccurate. This paper proposes a method to calculate exactly the roughness and its uncertainty by piecewise fitting the smooth B-spline filter assessment middle lines. A B-spline smoothing filter is selected to determine the assessment middle line of roughness. The B-spline filter can not only give the accurate roughness, but also obtain the smooth assessment middle line. The model of roughness uncertainty is proposed by piecewise fitting B-spline filter middle lines as the quadratic curves. The S-shaped test part is used to verify the model of roughness uncertainty.

The aim of this study was to determine the influence of different forms of an audience's behavior on the heart work parameters and salivary cortisol level of leisure horses during work. Twelve horses were studied at rest, during standardized work, and at recovery. There was no audience in the arena in the control variant, whereas an audience (10 people) was situated in the middle of the arena in four other variants: standing still and silent in the first variant, standing still and talking in normal voice in the second variant, being silent but walking in both directions along the middle line of the arena in the third variant, and walking as above and simultaneously talking in the fourth variant. One of the most important features of optical biopsy methods is its non-invasive nature, high sensitivity and resolution in comparison to traditional diagnostic methods. Optical diagnostic methods, contrary to histopathological tests and biochemical analysis, do not require the collection of tissue samples for analysis, and the amount of analyzed material is practically unlimited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of spectral studies in the diagnostics of skin basal cell cancer using a protoptive device in clinical conditions. Each of the subjects was measured 4 times. The measurements were performed on the skin of a patient without a photosensitizer and on the healthy skin on the opposite side of the change in relation to the middle line, also without a photosensitizer. Patients were then given photosensitizer in form of ointment from ALA (Sigma Aldrich, USA) and lubricated with this ointment with occlusal dressing. The patient was examined again 3 h after the application. In each case the measurement time was 1.2 s. Significant differences were observed for the measurements of the sick patient's skin with photosensitizer. Significant differences in spectral curve between 570 and 780 nm were observed.

Objective The aim: The purpose of the study was to determine the correspondence between the location of the tongue median line and the degree of distortion of the vertebral column at different levels in children with scoliosis. Patients and methods Materials and methods: Totally 56 children (30 girls, 26 boys) aged 11-14 years were examined, with a duration of musculoskeletal disorders 1-3 years. For each participant an oral cavity examination was performed, the position of the middle line of the tongue was determined. X-ray images of vertebral column of the patients from investigated groups were analyzed. Results Results: In the group with 1year duration of the disease 25.02% patients had a violation of the medial line of the tongue, in the group with 2 years of duration of the disease - 65,52% participants had the deviation of the medial line of the tongue, in the group with 3 years of duration of the disease 86.66% of patients had the deviation of the medial line of the tongue. Conclusion Conclusions: This research allows us to recommend paying attention not only to the size, color, state of the papillae of the tongue, but also to the position of the middle line, which distortion may significate the deviation of the vertebral column in different portions.

Objective To observe the clinical therapeutic effects on nervous olfactory disorder treated with acupuncture at three nasal points and scalp acupuncture. Methods Acupuncture was applied in 30 eligible patients with nervous olfactory disorder. The points included three nasal points, i.e., Yingxiāng (迎香 LI 20), Shangyingxiāng (上迎香 EX-HN 8) and Yintang (印堂 EX-HN 3), Ezhōngxian (额中线 middle line of forehead, MS1) and bilateral Niehouxian (颞后线 posterior temporal line, MS11). The even-needling technique was used to stimulate the three nasal points to ensure deqi. In scalp acupuncture, the needle was rotated continuously at 200 times per min, for 2 min at each scalp acupuncture line. The needles were retained for 40 min at above points and lines and were manipulated once every 20 min during needle retaining. The treatment was given once a day, 6-day treatment was as one course and the next course of treatment started after the interval of 1 day. Totally, 4 courses of treatment were required. Before and after treatment, T&T olfactory was adopted to test the olfactory function and the score was compared in order to evaluate the therapeutic effect. Results Of 30 cases, 8 cases were cured, 20 cases remarkably effective and 2 cases failed. The total effective rate was 93%. Conclusion Acupuncture at three nasal points and scalp acupuncture are effective approach to nervous olfactory disorder.

В статье приведен анализ тех правовых позиций, которые были характерны для той и другой из сторон, на предмет их соответствия как нормам современного международного морского права, так и национальным интересам каждого из двух государств. Показано, как вхождение Крыма в состав Российской Федерации принципиальным образом привело к изменению возможных запросных позиций обеих сторон, а также к тому, что урегулирование ситуации по этому вопросу стало еще более затруднительным.

espanolEl proposito de este trabajo fue analizar el efecto de la modificacion del espacio de juego sobre los comportamientos tacticos en futbol, mediante variables de posicionamiento de jugadores. Se monitorizo a 10 jugadores amateur (edad = 23.39 ± 3.91 anos) con unidades GPS en dos partidos 11 vs. 11 diferentes en cuanto al tamano del campo (medio campo y campo entero). Se calculo el centroide y el indice de elasticidad de los equipos mediante el software Ultimate Performance Analysis Tool (Instrumento de analisis de alto rendimiento). Se observaron valores significativamente superiores de los centroid porteria-a-porteria (p = 0.001; ES = 3.794), centroid banda-a-banda (p = 0.001; ES = 0.729) y indice total de elasticidad (p = 0.001; ES = 1.185) en la situacion de campo entero. La situacion de campo entero incremento las distancias entre companeros y distancias de los jugadores respecto al centroide. Ademas, la posicion geometrica del centro del equipo se situo por delante de la linea media del campo en la situacion de campo entero. EnglishThe purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of two different field sizes (full and half of an official size field) on the tactical behaviors measured by position data of players. Ten amateur soccer players (age = 23.39 ± 3.91 years old) were tracked with GPS units during two situations of 11 vs. 11, one in each field size. The position data was treated and the centroid and stretch index of the team were calculated with the Ultimate Performance Analysis Tool. Significantly greater values of centroid in goalto-goal axis (p = 0.001; ES = 3.794), centroid in lateral-to-lateral axis (p = 0.001; ES = 0.729) and total stretch index (p = 0.001; ES = 1.185) were found in the full-size game. The full-size of the field increased the distances between teammates and the distances to the centroid. Moreover, the position of geometrical center of the team was beyond of the middle line in the full size.

In the article results of examinations got in case of surgical accesses through the flank and ventral wall of the stomach’s implementation on purpose to the cats’ ovariohysterectomy are given. The research work was carried out on healthy sexually-mature cats. Surgeries were done in the upper third of the right flank abdominal wall and in the behind the umbilical zone. The cross-cut on the boundary of groin and illium area in the direction from the hook-bone’s front border to the fourth nipple of the mammary gland of the appropriate side was applied on the side abdominal wall. It is established that in case of the accomplishment of cat’s ovariohysterectomy with the use of suggested surgical access through the side abdominal wall a duration of an operation and a period of healing are in line with those which are in case of application of median laparotomy. It is proved that the surgical access with the cross-cut done in the upper third of the right flank abdominal wall and on the boundary of groin and illium area in case of cat’s ovariohysterectomy secure better opportunities for the fulfillment of the surgical method than the median one. It is also noted that in case of cat’s ovariohysterectomy the surgical access through the upper third of the right flank abdominal wall with the cut in the direction from the hook-bone’s front border to the fourth nipple of the mammary gland of the appropriate side could be recommended as an alternative of an access through the middle line of the stomach.

Indonesia's logistic performance index in 2018 was ranked 46th in the world, and 5th in the ASEAN region, with the infrastructure sub-indicator was the second lowest of six others. The government added new 200 to the 760 kilometres Trans-Java toll road. It will be equipped with 61 rest areas along the road. In Eid al-Fitr holiday, where traffic increased up to 460%, rest areas were full, resulting in heavy congestion. In this research, Integer Linear Programming (ILP) is used to model the parking layout to determine the optimal parking angle and the parking lot number. The objective is to maximize the parking area capacity. The decision variables are the number of parking rows (Xet,θ,Xep,θ,Xe,θ,Xip,θ,Xi,θ) and the number of parking vehicles (Net,θ,Nep,θ,Ne,θ,Nip,θ,Nip,θ) both based on five parking angles (0°, 30°,45°,60°,90°). The constraints are the width of the parking lot (W), the length (L), and length of area in the middle line (L') and non-negative constraints. The study was conducted at rest area km 207A in Palikanci toll road. The existing parking area was divided into 15 areas to fit the model. The result showed that Integer Linear Programming can enhance the parking capacity, from 41 to 105 buses/trucks and 258 to 473 cars. This research will give impact to business profit of the parking management, reduce toll road traffic congestion, and improve the comfort of the rest area.

The clinical case of a giant congenital germ cell tumor (immature teratoma, 2 grade) of soft tissues of the head and neck with destruction of the large wing of the sphenoid bone, with spreading to the oral cavity with the transition beyond the middle line, infiltration of the tongue, complete obstruction of the nasopharyngeal the child 15 days of life. The article describes Specific features of performing surgical intervention are described taking into account the prevalence of the tumor process. The discussed issues of teratoma classification, methods of diagnosis, provision of modern principles of therapy for patients with this disease.

Virgo intacta, 49 years old, in the climacteric period. For the first time, she covered up a tumor in herself, when she was 35 years old. The tumor occupies mainly the left half of the abdomen, reaching along the nipple line to the ribs, along the middle line up to 8 cm. above the navel. The probe is inserted into the canal of the uterus only 4 cm. Excessively with the removal of the tumor, uterus and appendages (the patient died of peritonitis, as a result of a peritiflytic abscess).

En el contexto actual en el que han surgido numerosas alternativas en terapia intravenosa, se hacen necesarios estudios sobre los diferentes dispositivos disponibles para determinar cuál es el sistema más idóneo en cada caso. Las líneas medias surgen como alternativa a la utilización de catéteres venosos periféricos y catéteres centrales de inserción periférica. El objetivo de este estudio es evaluar el uso de los catéteres de línea media en pacientes hospitalizados. Método: Estudio retrospectivo de 1016 pacientes. Se analizaron variables relacionadas con el tiempo medio de utilización del catéter, la tasa de incidencias para cada una de las complicaciones, el número de catéteres retirados y sus causas. Resultados: El 40 % de los catéteres se canalizó por mal acceso venoso del paciente (406), el 42% por tratamiento intravenoso largo (427) y el 18% por tratamiento irritante (183). Respecto a la efectividad de los catéteres, el tiempo medio de utilización fue de 12.1 días (DE 9.4). Finalizaron el tratamiento 854 pacientes, 704 (69.3%) por fin de tratamiento y 150 (14.8%) por fallecimiento. Presentaron complicaciones el 7.4 % de los pacientes (75). Se retiraron por mal funcionamiento del catéter el 4.4% (45), el 1% por complicaciones del paciente (10). El 2% de los catéteres se retiró por fiebre (20). Conclusiones: El catéter de línea media es un dispositivo de acceso venoso con una baja tasa de complicaciones, presenta un tiempo medio de permanencia en torno a los 12 días. Supone una alternativa a los catéteres periféricos cortos en pacientes con mal acceso venoso y ofrece una alternativa a las rotaciones frecuentes en pacientes con tratamientos antibióticos superiores a 7 días. ABSTRACT: In the current context in which numerous alternatives have emerged in intravenous therapy, studies are needed on the different devices available to determine which is the most suitable system in each case. The midlines arise as analternative to the use of peripheral venous catheters and central peripheral insertion catheters. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the use of midline catheters in hospitalized patients. Method: Retrospective study of 1016 patients. We analyzed variables related to the mean time of catheter use, the incidence rate for each of the complications, the number of catheters removed and their causes.Results: 46.5% of the catheters were inserted in men (472). The average age was 65 years (SD 16.8), being the youngest of 14 and the oldest of 101 years. 40% of the catheters were channeled due to poor venous access of the patient (406), 42% for long intravenous treatment (427) and 18% for irritant treatment (183). Regarding the effectiveness of the catheters, the average time of use was 12.1 days (SD 9.4). The treatment was terminated by 854 patients, 704 (69.3%) by the end of treatment and 150 (14.8%) by death. 7.4% of patients presented complications (75). 4.4% (45) were removed due to malfunction of the catheter, 1% due to patient complications (10). 2% of the catheters were removed due to fever (20).Conclusions: The middle line catheter is a venous access device with a low complication rate, it has a average residence time of around 12 days. It is an alternative to short peripheral catheters in patients with poor vein access and offers an alternative to frequent rotations in patients with antibiotic treatments longer than 7 days.

We present a case of a complete external ear amputation, caused by a human bite, that took place during a quarrel in a local farmers' market. The male victim was transferred to the Hospital. After surgical reattachment of the auricle, a forensic clinical examination was performed, as per legal obligation. During examination, the victim was found to have sustained: contusions of the orbital regions (lower eyelids), bilaterally, soft tissue oedema of the forehead (to the left of the middle line), and contusion of the right neck area. He also sustained multiple soft tissue injuries (contusions, abrasions) on the torso and on both upper and lower extremities. Clinical forensic examination of human bite injuries requires thorough description of the wound, proper photography and possibly collection of swabs for DNA identification (in case of unknown perpetrator). Nevertheless, the Forensic Pathologist is often required to perform clinical examination, only after medical care has been provided. Therefore, clinicians should be aware of the need of proper documentation and act accordingly.

The article presents one optimization method for improving of the working process of an axial compressor of gas turbine engine. Developed method allows to perform search for the best geometry of compressor blades automatically by using optimization software IOSO and CFD software NUMECA Fine/Turbo. Optimization was performed by changing the form of the middle line in the three sections of each blade and shifts of three sections of the guide vanes in the circumferential and axial directions. The calculation of the compressor parameters was performed for work and stall point of its performance map on each optimization step. Study was carried out for seven-stage high-pressure compressor and three-stage low-pressure compressors. As a result of optimization, improvement of efficiency was achieved for all investigated compressors.

Introduction: Digastric is a suprahyoid muscle and usually consists of two bellies. Its action consists in drawing the mental region downwards and backwards when opening the mouth, resulting in the depression of the mandible. Methods and Results: During a routine dissection of the cervical region, a muscle bundle arising from the intermediary tendon going towards the middle line was found. The supranumerary belly arised from the intermediary tendon so that some bundles inserted on the middle rafe and others continued towards the mento and inserted on the belly of mylohyoid muscle at the same side. These anatomic variations on the anterior belly of the digastric muscle could be significant during surgical procedures involving the submental region. Conclusion: Besides this surgical importance, we suggest that these supranumerary bellies have no direct action on the mandible, but on the floor of the mouth, due to its insertions on the mylohyoid muscle.

We surveyed the abundance and accumulation patterns of mesoplastic marine debris (5-25mm) on 20 beaches in Korea. The mean abundance of it was 13.2items/m2, and the mean weight was 1.5g/m2. Hard plastic and Styrofoam were the dominant types. The proportions of hard plastic and Styrofoam were highly variable among the beaches, each accounting for 0-100% of the total debris on a given beach with 32% and 48.5% (by number) on average, respectively. Relatively lower abundances of mesoplastic marine debris compared with our previous studies were likely due by differences of the sampling areas within the beach. The samples of this research were selected from backshore, middle line, and water edge whereas they were selected from high strandline and backshore in our previous studies. It should be considered when discussing the level of mesoplastic marine debris.

Objective To investigate a novel intermuscular surgical approach for posterior upper cervical spine fixation. Methods Twenty-three healthy volunteers underwent magnetic resonance imaging. By using the magnetic resonance imaging scans in transverse view at the level of lower edge of atlas, the distances from the posterior midline to lateral margin of trapezius, to the medial margin of splenius capitis, and to middle line of semispinalis capitis were recorded. The angle between posterior middle line and the line crossing the lateral margin of trapezius and middle point of ipsilateral pedicles. From October 2009 to May 2013, 12 patients with upper cervical spine injuries were operated via the bilateral intermuscular approach. The time required for surgery, blood loss, and pre- and postoperative visual analogue scale scores were analyzed. Results The average distance of 0-T was 39.2 ± 7.5 mm, the angle between the approach and posterior middle line was 33.2 ± 8.4°. The surgical time was 78.3 ± 22.5 minutes (45–140 minutes), and the mean intraoperative blood loss was 87.5 ± 44.2 mL (30–200 mL). Preoperative and postoperative visual analogue scale scores were 6.4 ± 0.8 and 1.8 ± 0.7, respectively. The average follow-up time was 19.7 ± 11.5 months (9–48 months). Conclusions The posterior bilateral intermuscular approach for upper cervical spine injuries is a valid alternative for Hangmans' fractures type I, type II, and type Ia according to Levine and Edwards classification as well as atlantoaxial subluxation caused by upper cervical spine trauma.

The experimental study of the suspended GaAs quantum point contact (QPC) equipped with in-plane side gates reveals that, under such conditions, the QPC constriction has an unusual triple-channel structure involving three conductive channels with the quantized conductance selectively driven by the gates. The analysis of capacitance coefficients and channel widths allows us to conclude that the channels are narrow, compared to the lithographic constriction of the QPC, and that two of the channels are located along the constriction edges, while the other one passes along the middle line. The suspended QPC with the selectively driven triple-channel structure represents a device with an enhanced functionality. The electrostatic mechanism of the channel formation, specific for trench-type suspended QPCs with side gates, is discussed.

Aims: To study effect of days to flowering on the plant height and yield of rice. Study Design: Experiment was carried out according to the complete randomized block design. Four replications were designed for the experiment and each replicate consisted of 3 lines and twenty plants were included in to each line. Data were collected in 80 plants of the each middle line of four replicates. Place and Duration of Study: Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ruhuna, Mapalana, Sri Lanka, From 2011 November to 2013 November Methodology: Days to flowering (DF) has been used for plant height (PH), and yield/plant (g) (YLD) were measured in 102 traditional rice cultivars. Eighty plants of each cultivar in four replicates were selected for data collection. Rice cultivars were grouped as 70, 80, 90, 100 DF. Path analysis was done using IBM SPSS AMOS statistical software. Path correlations were calculated to determine the total effect of DF on the PH and YLD. Results: The effect of DF on the PH and YLD was greatly varied with the DF. Effect of DF on PH was highest when DF was the shortest. Effect of DF on both YLD and PH were maxima at 80 DF. The DF on the YLD was a cubic relationship of days to flowering with a minimum and a maximum value which is fitted with the equation Conclusion: The DF on the YLD was a cubic relationship of days to flowering with a minimum and a maximum value which is fitted with the equation y = 0.158x
