Abstract

Sequoia Scientific Inc. is a leading manufacturer of submersible optical sensors used for studying particles and optical properties in marine and freshwater environments. Their instruments are used for monitoring harmful algal blooms (HABs) and oil spills, as well as for measuring water properties to support satellite remote sensing. The LISST- HAB instrument is specifically designed for detecting and monitoring HABs, while the LISST-Black is used for oil spill monitoring. Sequoia's instruments also contribute to understanding in-water optical properties and validating remote sensing measurements. Abstract

Aims: Little is known about long-term mental health in young adults who participate in ongoing grief counseling programs after early parental death in childhood, adolescence or young adulthood. The purpose of this study was to examine mental health in young adults according to early parental death and participation in grief counseling. Methods: In a cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study, we included three samples of young adults age 18-41 years. One sample who had lost a parent between age 0 and 30 years and who had participated in grief counseling identified through four Danish grief-counseling organizations, and two registry-based samples of young adults included parentally bereaved and non-bereaved young adults. Multivariate-adjusted regression analyses were performed to characterize risk of depressive symptoms and mental health-related quality of life (HQoL) according to early parental death and participation in grief counseling. Results: A total of 2467 (45%) young adults participated. Bereaved young adults reported significantly more depressive symptoms (p<0.0001) and lower mental HQoL (p<0.0001) than non-bereaved young adults and than general population levels for both depressive symptoms (p<0.0001) and HQoL (p<0.0001). Bereaved young adults who had participated in grief counseling reported significantly more depressive symptoms (p<0.0001) and lower mental HQoL (p<0.0001) than bereaved persons who did not participate in grief counseling. Conclusions: Bereaved young adults report more mental health problems than non-bereaved young adults, and also after participation in grief counseling the death of a parent may be accompanied by subsequent mental health problems.

44. The relationship between behaviour, process efficiency, and performance in sales and operations planning

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this paper is to analyse the relationship between key behavioural indicators (KBIs), Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) efficiency, and perceived firm performance (in terms of sales, cost, and finance) as well as secondary performance indicators. KBIs and S&OP efficiency are novel concepts that still need operationalisation and thus call for an explorative approach. The paper is based on a questionnaire-survey among Danish manufacturers that have an S&OP process in operation. The survey consists of multiple respondents from each company covering sales, operations, finance, and the S&OP process manager. Data reveals that there is a positive relationship between KBIs and S&OP efficiency among the respondents. Furthermore, data indicate that process efficiency is positively related to sales and operational performance. The results also reveal that firm-size controls the relationships between process efficiency and operational performance. The results indicate that it does pay off to focus on soft issues (in terms of behaviour and process efficiency) in S&OP processes to enhance sales and operational performance.
