11. Nurses' Attitudes Towards Scholarly Publishing Scale (NAS Scale): A Psychometric Analysis.

Abstract

The existing research studies on tool development are concentrated on determining and assessing the perception of individuals in scientific research. These instruments do not measure the complex construct of nurses' attitudes toward scientific publications, which includes the nurses' perceptions, beliefs, and behaviors regarding the value, accessibility, usability, and impact of scholarly publications. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop and validate a scale specifically measuring Nurses' Attitudes Toward Scholarly Publishing (NAS). This methodological study developed and psychometrically tested the NAS Scale (NAS Scale) through rigorous literature review and interviews with nurses. Content validity and exploratory factor analysis (EFA; n = 334) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA; n = 305) were performed. Hypothesis testing was also used to support the scale's construct validity. Internal consistency was computed to support the scale's reliability. The data were collected among nurses in the Philippines from February to March 2024. The EFA revealed a 12‐item NAS Scale with three factors: "NAS Challenges" (NAS Challenges), "NAS Benefits and Values" (NAS Benefits and Values), and "NAS Support and Mentorship" (NAS Support and Mentorship). The CFA supported this three‐factor solution: x2/df = 2.96, RMSEA = 0.08 (90% CI = 0.06–0.09), SRMR = 0.057, NFI = 0.96, TLI = 0.96, and CFI = 0.97. The hypothesis testing also supported the construct validity of the scale. The computed Cronbach's alpha for the entire scale was 0.79, with subscale's Cronbach alpha ranging from 0.91 to 0.95. Abstract

Introduction: Protein nutrition disorder in alkaptonuria (AKU), resulting in increased homogentisic acid (HGA) before nitisinone therapy and increased tyrosine (TYR) during nitisinone therapy, may benefit from dietetic intervention. The aim of this study was to characterise the diet and their effects prospectively in those who received formal dietetic intervention in the nitisinone-receiving National Alkaptonuria Centre (NAC) patients with those who did not in no-nitisinone Suitability of Nitisinone in Alkaptonuria 2 (SN2 N−) and nitisinone-treated SN2 (SN2 N+) randomised study groups. Patients and methods: A total of 63, 69, and 69 AKU patients from the NAC, SN2 N−, and SN2 N+ were studied for anthropometric (weight, BMI), body composition (including muscle mass, %body fat, hand grip strength), chemical characteristics (serum TYR, serum phenylalanine, urine urea or uUREA, and urine creatinine or uCREAT), and corneal keratopathy. Nitisinone 2 mg and 10 mg were employed in the NAC and SN2 N+ groups, respectively. Dieticians managed protein intake in the NAC, while the SN2 N− and SN2 N+ groups only received advice on self-directed protein restriction during four years of study duration. Results: uUREA decreased in the NAC, SN2 N−, and SN2 N+ groups, showing that protein restriction was achieved in these groups. Body weight and BMI increased in the NAC and SN2 N+ groups. uCREAT decreased significantly in SN2 N− and SN2 N+ compared with the NAC over four years of study. Corneal keratopathy was less frequent in the NAC than in the SN2 N+ group. Active dietetic intervention in NAC stabilised lean body mass (muscle mass, hand grip strength) despite a decrease in uUREA and uCREAT, as well as sTYR. Conclusion: Ongoing dietetic intervention prevented loss of lean body mass despite protein restriction and moderated serum tyrosine increase, leading to less prevalent corneal keratopathy. Abstract

BackgroundA limited number of targeted therapy options exist for papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) to date. Based on genetic alterations reported by the “The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)”, we explored whether PTC shows alterations that may be targetable by drugs approved by the FDA for other solid cancers.MethodsDatabases of the National Cancer Institute and MyCancerGenome were screened to identify FDA-approved drugs for targeted therapy. Target genes were identified using Drugbank. Genetic alterations were classified into conferring drug sensitivity or resistance using MyCancerGenome, CiViC, TARGET, and OncoKB. Genomic data for PTC were extracted from TCGA and mined for alterations predicting drug response.ResultsA total of 129 FDA-approved drugs with 128 targetable genes were identified. One hundred ninety-six (70%) of 282 classic, 21 (25%) of 84 follicular, and all 30 tall-cell variant PTCs harbored druggable alterations: 259 occurred in 29, 39 in 19, and 31 in 2 targetable genes, respectively. The BRAF V600 mutation was seen in 68% of classic, 16% of follicular variant, and 93% of tall-cell variant PTCs.
