In order to evaluate analytically the ITZ volume fraction ( fITZ) in concrete, a three phase model is proposed for the random concrete microstructure using the Voronoï tessellation. Within this model, the ITZ local thickness is a statistical variable depending on the local paste thickness available between each couple of neighbouring aggregates. The fITZ is found to not exceed 7% for typical concretes. Then, the concrete Young's modulus is predicted analytically using a four-phase generalized self consistent model but in which the proposed fITZ is considered. It is found that the concrete Young's modulus increases when increasing aggregates volume fraction, aggregates maximum size and the proportion of coarse aggregates and when decreasing the ITZ thickness and Young's modulus. Finally, the validity of the proposed model is discussed based on a comparison between its predictions and three sets of experimental results related to normal and high strength concretes taken from literature. The building sector in Tunisia is very energy-intensive, the largest share of energy consumption comes from factories of building materials namely brick and cement plants. This work is part of the reduction of the energy bill in the building envelope. Indeed, the foam concrete can be walls in single or double wall with better insulating power. This paper presents an experimental study on the technical problems related to the formulation and manufacture of a new cellular concrete in Tunisia, called "foam" concrete, from Tunisian local materials. Indeed, six varieties of sand of different provenance and grain size will be analyzed, the "good" sand is the one that is best suited for the manufacture of foam concrete. Two clean, fine-grained (0/2mm) rolled grain sands were retained. Then four foam concretes were formulated using each time a single type of sand and varying the density namely 0.8 and 1. These four formulations were tested mechanically and thermally. The results found showed that compressive strengths do not exceed 1.5 MPa at 28 days. Thus, the foam concrete can be used only as a filling concrete in non-load bearing elements such as partition walls. The guarded hot plate method was used to determine the thermal conductivities of the four foamed concretes studied. A low thermal conductivity was found of the order of 0.22 W/m°K which prove the insulating power of foam concrete.

We used a thiol-faradaic electrochemical differential pulse voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy on a gold-modified screen-printed carbon electrode to quantify Chrysophsins antimicrobial peptides in the fish mucus without prior extraction. We have developed a specific anti-Chrysophsins polyclonal antibody and used ferrocene as a transducing system. The platform has a sensitivity of 30.5 nA.mL.ng -1 (11.28 nA.nM -1 ) in a linear range of 0.1-1 µg.mL -1 and a limit of detection of 0.227 ng.mL -1 (84.15 pM). Selectivity, accuracy, repeatability and stability were validated to meet the guidelines of ligand binding assays. Mean Chrysophsins levels in mucus pools from healthy and thermally unstressed Argyrosomus regius, Dicentrarchus labrax and Sparus aurata fish were 8.763 µM (± 0.007), 7.296 µM (± 0.023) and 8.296 (± 0.044) respectively, within the range of mass spectrometry gill values and below the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Chrysophsins for fish pathogens. The multi-infected D. labrax pool shows a significant decrease in concentration compared to the healthy and thermally stressed pools (p < 0.0262) with 2.8 µM (± 0.024). The thermally stressed A. regius pool is not significantly different from the other pools with 8.763 µM (± 0.007). Functional beverages play an essential role in our modern life and contribute to nutritional well-being. Current efforts to understand and develop functional beverages to promote health and wellness have been enhanced. The present study aimed to investigate the production of three fermented plants beverages (FPBs) from aromatic and medicinal plants and to evaluate the fermented product in terms of physio-biochemical composition, the aromatic compounds, antioxidant activity, and in vivo protective effects on hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ). The results showed that the fermented beverage NurtBio B had the highest levels of polyphenols, flavonoids, and tannins; 242.3 ± 12.4 µg GAE/mL, 106.4 ± 7.3 µg RE/mL and 94.2 ± 5.1 µg CE/mL, respectively. The aromatic profiles of the fermented beverages showed thirty-one interesting volatile compounds detected by GC-MS headspace analyses such as benzaldehyde, Eucalyptol, Fenchone, 3-Octadecyne, Estragole, and Benzene propanoic acid 1-methylethyl ester. In addition, the fermentation process was significantly improved, indicating its great potential as a functional food with both strong antioxidant activity and good flavor. In vivo administration of CCl 4 in mice induced hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity by a significant rise in the levels of serum liver and kidney biomarkers. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of microfinance on women's entrepreneurship and empowerment, using national household data from Tunisia. We have employed Logistic Regressions and Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to study the consequences of microfinance use.We find positive and significant effects of access to credit on women's work, attitudes toward income increase, execution of the micro-projects, and schooling attendance. The H9N2 subtype of influenza A virus circulates frequently among poultry in Asian and North African countries causing economic loss in the poultry sector. The antigenic variations of the H9N2 virus were at the origin of its genetic evolution through the emergence of viral strains transmissible to humans and resistant to chemical antivirals, which require a strengthening of the fight means against this virus. In this study, we used a random linear hexapeptide library fused to the gene III protein of M13 filamentous bacteriophage to select new antiviral peptides that inhibit the infectivity of H9N2 virus. After three rounds of stringent selection and amplification, polyclonal phage-peptides directed against H9N2 virus were assessed by ELISA, and the optimal phage-peptides were grown individually and characterized for binding to H9N2 virus by monoclonal phage ELISA. The DNA of 27 phage-peptides clones was amplified by PCR, sequenced, and their amino acid sequences were deduced. Sixteen different phage-peptides were able to bind specifically the H9N2 virus, among them, 13 phage-peptides interacted with the hemagglutinin H9. Two selected peptides, P1 (LSRMPK) and P2 (FAPRWR) have shown antiviral activity in ovo and P1 was more protective in vivo then P2 when co-administered with the H9N2 virus. Mechanistically, these peptides prevent infection by inhibiting the attachment of the H9N2 virus to the cellular receptor. Molecular docking revealed that the peptides LSRMPK and FAPRWR bind to hemagglutinin protein H9, but interact differently with the receptor binding site (RBS). Plexiform neurofibromas are rare benign tumors developed from peripheral nervous system often associated with neurofibromatosis type 1. We report the case of multifocal plexiform neurofibromas in a 2-year-old child with cervical mass obstructing the trachea causing respiratory distress. A cervical ultrasound examination was performed followed by enhanced CT and MRI. Imaging revealed an expansive cervical mass extended from the base of the skull to the mediastinum associated with similar pelvic and sacral foraminal masses. The target like MRI aspect on T2-weighted images was suggestive of the neural origin. Biopsy under ultrasound control confirmed the diagnosis of plexiform neurofibroma.

This study aims to investigate the thermoprotective properties of Opuntia ficus-indica f. inermis. Extracts were prepared from cladodes (CE) and mesocarps (ME), then subjected to a spectrophotometric and LC-MS analyses. Lymphocytes were isolated from peripheral blood of non-stressed sheep, supplemented with CE, ME, betanin or α-tocopherol, and subjected to two thermal treatments: 40 and 41 °C, for 6 h. Viable lymphocytes and H 2 O 2 production were evaluated. The antioxidant activity of ME was 3.43 folds higher than CE. The LC-MS analysis of CE and ME allowed identifying 11 phenolic acids, 2 flavanones, 6 flavones, 3 flavonols and 1 betanin type betacyanin. Lymphocytes mortality increased linearly as function of the severity and the duration of heat stress. This mortality was correlated with H 2 O 2 production. At 41 °C, only ME allowed maintaining lymphocytes viability. Moreover, ME was more efficient than CE in reducing H 2 O 2 production. This thermoprotection was ensured by betaxanthin and betacyanin pigments. Interestingly, betanin was more efficient than α-tocopherol in preventing hyperthermia-induced lymphocytes' mortality. We report here for the first time the thermoprotective properties of cladodes and mesocarps of Opuntia ficus-indica f. inermis. Introduction: Resistant tuberculosis is a topical subject given the difficulties of its management., Objective: To evaluate the role of imaging in the diagnosis and follow-up of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB)., Methods: Retrospective study of MDR-TB cases followed in Hall C of Abderrahmane Mami Hospital (2010 to 2016)., Results: Forty four patients included. The average age was 33 (15-58). The sex ratio was 1.7. Chest radiographs at the start of treatment showed lesions dominated by nodules (n = 39) and cavities (n = 36). The parenchymal lesions were bilateral (n = 32), associated pleural (n = 4) and mediastinal lesions (n = 7). During treatment, radiological improvement dominated during the first 7 months of treatment. Computed tomography was performed as part of the preoperative assessment of MDR-TB (n = 2), lung cancer extension assessment (n = 1) and etiological assessment of haemoptysis. It allowed to refute a suspected pulmonary embolism (n = 1) and to drain a pleural effusion. Parenchymal lesions on CT were dominated by nodules (n = 8) and cavities (n = 6). Mediastinal nodes (n = 4) and pleural effusions (n = 3) were noted. Ultrasonography showed pleural effusion with pleural thickening (n = 2) and permits its ponction., Conclusion: Imaging is a key element in the diagnostic approach to tuberculosis. It permits to evaluate tuberculous lesions and to detect tuberculous complications. It helps to guide the therapeutic management and evaluate its effectiveness.

Background: Cell culture adaptation of very virulent infectious bursal disease virus (vvIBDV) was shown to be mainly associated with the VP2 capsid protein residues 253, 279, and 284. The single mutation A284T proved critical for cell culture tropism, but did not confer efficient virus replication, which at least required one additional mutation, Q253H or D279N. While the double mutation Q253H/A284T was unambiguously shown to confer both efficient replication in cell culture and attenuation in chickens, conflicting results have been reported regarding the replication efficiency of vvIBDV mutants bearing the D279N/A284T double mutation, and no data are hitherto available on their virulence in chickens., Findings: Here we used an in vivo reverse genetics system to assess the impact of the D279N/A284T double mutation on the replication and attenuation of a chimeric IBDV virus, whose polyprotein derived from a non-culturable vvIBDV clinical isolate. We found that the D279N/A284T double mutation did indeed confer efficient replication in chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) cell culture, but the mutant virus remained highly pathogenic to chickens., Conclusions: The double mutation D279N/A284T of the VP2 major capsid protein of vvIBDV is sufficient to confer cell culture tropism and replication efficiency, but does not necessarily lead to virus attenuation.

Due to serotype variations among different avian infectious bronchitis viruses isolated in Tunisia since 2000, protection of chicks, especially broiler flocks, with Mass H120 vaccine often fails. Therefore, association of CR88 (793B type) with H120 vaccines was used for better response. Challenge experiments were then conducted to evaluate tracheal and renal cross-protection in chickens immunized via nasal and eye drops. Conferred protection was measured by clinical signs and macroscopic lesions observed, based on scores attributed according to their severities. The results showed a low protection conferred by H120 alone, as vaccination did not reduce tracheal and kidney lesions (70% scored as 3) after TN20/00 virus challenge, which also led to 10% mortality. Conversely, the challenge results indicated that the combination of the 2 strains (H120/CR88) allow high protection. Based on the results of the challenge experiments, a vaccination protocol coupling CR88 to H120 was applied for industrial broiler flocks. Background: Pulmonary actinomycosis is a rare bacteriological disease, caracterized by local suppuration and an extensive fibroinflammatory process, with a possible pseudotumoral outcome., Aim: To report a new observation of a pulmonary actinomycosis., Case Report: A 52-year-old patient, smoker, admitted in our department for infectious pneumopathy complicated by purulent pleurisy. Clinical and radiological findings were not contributive.Fiberoptic had evocate the diagnosis of bronchopulmonary cancer. Evolution had been marqued by abondant hemoptysia indicating right low lobectomie. The diagnosis of actinomycosis was obtained by the pathology of the surgical resection., Conclusion: Diagnosis of pulmonary actinomycosis can be difficult because it can mimic the presentation of lung carcinoma.If the diagnosis is no late established, and if the patient is correctely treated medically, the prognosis still excellent.

Background: Vena cava superior syndrome results of an obstruction of superior vein cava(SVC)and/or brachiocaphalic venous troncs by extrinsic compression and/or by tumoral or cruoric thrombosis. The bronchopulmonary cancer represents the most frequent aetiology., Aim: The aim of this study is to establish clinical, radiological, evolutive profiles and modalities of treatment of neoplasic vena cava superior syndrome independently of its histological type., Methods: It is a retrospective study about 20 patients presenting vena cava superior syndrome complicating primary bronchopulmonary cancer, hospitalised between January 2000 and December 2007 in Ibn Nafiss department in Abderrahmen Mami hospital., Results: All patients were males with an average of 57,8 years. Vena cava superior syndrome had revealed cancer in 60% of cases. It was metachrone in 40% of the patients. The most frequent histological type was small cell lung cancer. Treatment was proceeded in 2 steps, symptomatic and etiologic for the bronchopulmonary cancer., Conclusion: The bronchopulmonary cancer is the most frequent aetiology of vena cava superior syndrome. Its treatment is actually well codified.

Background: Ewing Sarcoma is considered as primitive neuro ectodermic tumor. It's the most frequent osseous tumor in children and adolescent. It was localised frequently at long osseous and pelvis, however, it can be arising from the rib., Aim: this article aimed to show that Ewing sarcome could arise twely from thorax., Case Report: We report the case of 15-year-old girl, admitted in our hospital because of left scapular pain with important weight loss. Chest X ray showed dense left latero tracheal opacity with mediastinal limits. Bronchofiberoscopy was performed and it showed no abnormalities. Thoracic CT scan and MRI noted left posteroir expansif mediastinal process infiltrating D2, D3 and homolateral conjugation's canal. This process was associated at vertebral metastasis in D1, D4 and D8.Rapid clinical aggravation, with installation for medullar compression was noted. The patient had benefit for three cures of decompress radiotherapy and treated by laminectomy of dorsal vertebras in neurosurgery department. Morphologic aspects and immunohistochimical study for the operator piece concluded at Ewing sarcoma of the children considered as primitive neuro ectodermic tumor. Six cures of chemotherapy had been prescribed with well recuperation of the motor failure. She still on life since 7 months., Conclusion: Even rare, thoracic localisation of Ewing sarcoma in not exceptional, it is necessary to evocate it in front of mediastinal mass.

Elastofibroma is a rare benign soft tissue lesion, typically located deep under the lower pole of the scapula. It is characterized by a fibrous and adipose tissue proliferation and most frequently affects older females. Its characteristic location and its specific aspect in imaging studies most often provides the diagnosis following an incidental discovery. Nevertheless, anatomic and pathologic confirmation is necessary to formally rule out a malignant tumor diagnosis. We report a 66-year-old woman original observation; this lady's occupation involved a number of strenuous manual activities; she consulted for chronic pain related to a left subscapular mass. Three infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) strains, isolated from suspected Tunisian broiler flocks, were characterized as variant viruses using genotyping and serotyping techniques. They were compared with commonly used vaccine strains, including 793/B, D274, and Massachusetts types. Reverse transcription-PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism, nucleotide sequencing, and GenBank BLAST database analyses of the hypervariable region of the S1 subunit of the virus spike gene showed that the three isolates, designated TN20/00, TN200/01, and TN335/01, share from 64% to 82% homologies between each other but are very different from the H120 strain, the only infectious bronchitis vaccine used in Tunisia. In addition, they showed from 57% to 78% similarities with the European genotypes, including D274 and 793/B. Phylogenetic data allowed classification of the three Tunisian isolates as new genotypes placed inside the same genetic group as the CR88121 and D274 genotypes but very distant from the Massachusetts genotype. Cross-virus neutralization tests confirmed the genotyping results and showed that both TN200/01 and TN335/01 isolates are serologically related, whereas the TN20/00 is closer to TN335/01 than to TN200/01. Moreover, all three Tunisian isolates are closely related to the European variant serotypes, including the CR88121 and the D274 strains, but none is serologically related to the H120 vaccine strain. These data demonstrated, for the first time in Tunisia, the cocirculation of IBV variant serotypes along with the Massachusetts type, causing severe clinical diseases and high economic losses to the poultry industry.
