The population of strong lensing galaxies is a sub-set of intermediate-redshift massive galaxies, whose population-level properties are not yet well understood. In the near future, thousands of multiply imaged systems are expected to be discovered by wide-field surveys like Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) and Euclid. With the soon-to-be robust population of quadruply lensed quasars, or quads, in mind, we introduce a novel technique to elucidate the empirical distribution of the galaxy population properties. Our re-imagining of the prevailing strong lensing analysis does not fit mass models to individual lenses, but instead starts with parametric models of many galaxy populations, which include generally ignored mass distribution complexities and exclude external shear for now. We construct many mock galaxy populations with different properties and obtain populations of quads from each of them. The mock `observed' population of quads is then compared to those from the mocks using a model-free analysis based on a 3D sub-space of directly observable quad image properties. The distance between two quad populations in the space of image properties is measured by a metric $\eta$, and the distance between their parent galaxy populations in the space of galaxy properties is measured by $\zeta$. We find a well defined relation between $\eta$ and $\zeta$. The discovered relation between the space of image properties and the space of galaxy properties allows for the observed galaxy population properties to be estimated from the properties of their quads, which will be conducted in a future paper., Comment: 18 pages and 13 figures

The charge density wave (CDW) is a condensate that often forms in layered materials. It is known to carry electric current \emph{en masse}, but the transport mechanism remains poorly understood at the microscopic level. Its quantum nature is revealed by several lines of evidence. Experiments often show lack of CDW displacement when biased just below the threshold for nonlinear transport, indicating the CDW never reaches the critical point for classical depinning. Quantum behavior is also revealed by oscillations of period $h/2e$ in CDW conductance vs. magnetic flux, sometimes accompanied by telegraph-like switching, in $\text{TaS}_3$ rings above 77 K. Here we discuss further evidence for quantum CDW electron transport. We find that, for temperatures ranging from 9 to 474 K, CDW current-voltage plots of three trichalcogenide materials agree almost precisely with a modified Zener-tunneling curve and with time-correlated soliton tunneling model simulations. In our model we treat the Schr\"{o}dinger equation as an emergent classical equation that describes fluidic Josephson-like coupling of paired electrons between evolving topological states. We find that an extension of this \lq classically robust' quantum picture explains both the $h/2e$ magnetoconductance oscillations and switching behavior in CDW rings. We consider potential applications for thermally robust quantum information processing systems.

In this paper, we point out connections between certain types of indecomposable representations of $sl(2)$ and generalizations of well-known orthogonal polynomials. Those representations take the form of infinite dimensional chains of weight or generalised weight spaces, for which the Cartan generator acts in a diagonal way or via Jordan blocks. The other generators of the Lie algebras $sl(2)$ act as raising and lowering operators but are now allowed to relate the different chains as well. In addition, we construct generating functions, we calculate the action of the Casimir invariant and present relations to systems of non-homogeneous second-order coupled differential equations. We present different properties as higher-order linear differential equations for building blocks taking the form of one variable polynomials. We also present insight into the zeroes and recurrence relations.

We present a study of nearby dwarf galaxies selected from the ALFALFA blind HI survey. A primary goal of the project was to utilize a non-standard selection method with the hope of detecting previously unrecognized extremely metal-poor (XMP) galaxies. The study was motivated by the recent discovery of two XMP galaxies $-$ Leo P and Leoncino $-$ which were both originally found via the ALFALFA survey. We have obtained narrowband H$\alpha$ images for 42 dwarf systems, many of which are located in the local void in front of the Pisces-Perseus Supercluster. Spectra for eleven of the best candidates resulted in the determination of metal abundances for ten of the systems. None were found to be extremely metal poor, although one system (AGC 123350) was found to have an oxygen abundance of log(O/H)+12 = 7.46, or $\sim$6\% solar. One of the galaxies in our sample exhibits a high oxygen abundance for its luminosity, suggesting the possibility that it may have a tidal origin., Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures, 4 tables

As a generalization and extension of our previous paper {\it J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 53 055302} \cite{AME2020}, in this work we study a quantum 4-body system in $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d\geq 3$) with quadratic and sextic pairwise potentials in the {\it relative distances}, $r_{ij} \equiv {|{\bf r}_i - {\bf r}_j |}$, between particles. Our study is restricted to solutions in the space of relative motion with zero total angular momentum ($S$-states). In variables $\rho_{ij} \equiv r_{ij}^2$, the corresponding reduced Hamiltonian of the system possesses a hidden $sl(7;{\bf R})$ Lie algebra structure. In the $\rho$-representation it is shown that the 4-body harmonic oscillator with arbitrary masses and unequal spring constants is exactly-solvable (ES). We pay special attention to the case of four equal masses and to atomic-like (where one mass is infinite, three others are equal), molecular two-center (two masses are infinite, two others are equal) and molecular three-center (three infinite masses) cases. In particular, exact results in the molecular case are compared with those obtained within the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. The first and second order symmetries of non-interacting system are searched. Also, the reduction to the lower dimensional cases $d=1,2$ is discussed. It is shown that for four body harmonic oscillator case there exists an infinite family of eigenfunctions which depend on the single variable which is the moment-of-inertia of the system., Comment: 39 pages, 2 figures

Many Mott systems feature a first-order metal-insulator transition at finite temperatures, with an associated phase coexistence region displaying inhomogeneities and local phase separation. Here one typically finds "bubbles" or domains of the respective phases, which are separated by surprisingly thick, or fat, domain walls, as revealed both by imaging experiments and recent theoretical modeling. To gain insight into this unexpected behavior, we perform a systematic model study of the structure of such metal-insulator domain walls around the Mott point, within the dynamical mean-field theory framework. Our study reveals that a mechanism producing such "fat" domain walls can be traced to strong magnetic frustration, which is expected to be a robust feature of "spin-liquid" Mott systems.

We consider the classical 3-body system with $d$ degrees of freedom $(d>1)$ at zero total angular momentum. The study is restricted to potentials $V$ that depend solely on relative (mutual) distances $r_{ij}=\mid {\bf r}_i - {\bf r}_j\mid$ between bodies. Following the proposal by J. L. Lagrange, in the center-of-mass frame we introduce the relative distances (complemented by angles) as generalized coordinates and show that the kinetic energy does not depend on $d$, confirming results by Murnaghan (1936) at $d=2$ and van Kampen-Wintner (1937) at $d=3$, where it corresponds to a 3D solid body. Realizing $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetry $(r_{ij} \rightarrow -r_{ij})$ we introduce new variables $\rho_{ij}=r_{ij}^2$, which allows us to make the tensor of inertia non-singular for binary collisions. In these variables the kinetic energy is a polynomial function in the $\rho$-phase space. The 3 body positions form a triangle (of interaction) and the kinetic energy is $\mathcal{S}_3$-permutationally invariant wrt interchange of body positions and masses (as well as wrt interchange of edges of the triangle and masses). For equal masses, we use lowest order symmetric polynomial invariants of $\mathbb{Z}_2^{\otimes3} \oplus \mathcal{S}_3$ to define new generalized coordinates, they are called the {\it geometrical variables}. Two of them of the lowest order (sum of squares of sides of triangle and square of the area) are called {\it volume variables}. We study three examples in some detail: (I) 3-body Newton gravity in $d=3$, (II) 3-body choreography in $d=2$ on the algebraic lemniscate by Fujiwara et al where the problem becomes one-dimensional in the geometrical variables, and (III) the (an)harmonic oscillator., Comment: 32 pages, 2 figures

We revise a method by Kalnins, Kress and Miller (2010) for constructing a canonical form for symmetry operators of arbitrary order for the Schr\"odinger eigenvalue equation $H\Psi \equiv (\Delta_2 +V)\Psi=E\Psi$ on any 2D Riemannian manifold, real or complex, that admits a separation of variables in some orthogonal coordinate system. We apply the method, as an example, to revisit the Tremblay and Winternitz (2010) derivation of the Painlev\'e VI potential for a 3rd order superintegrable flat space system that separates in polar coordinates and, as new results, we give a listing of the possible potentials on the 2-sphere that separate in spherical coordinates and 2-hyperbolic (two-sheet) potentials separating in horocyclic coordinates. In particular, we show that the Painlev\'e VI potential also appears for a 3rd order superintegrable system on the 2-sphere that separates in spherical coordinates, as well as a 3rd order superintegrable system on the 2-hyperboloid that separates in spherical coordinates and one that separates in horocyclic coordinates. Our aim is to develop tools for analysis and classification of higher order superintegrable systems on any 2D Riemannian space, not just Euclidean space., Comment: 23 pages

We make significant progress toward the classification of 2nd order superintegrable systems on 3-dimensional conformally flat space that have functionally linearly dependent (FLD) symmetry generators, with special emphasis on complex Euclidean space. The symmetries for these systems are linearly dependent only when the coefficients are allowed to depend on the spatial coordinates. The Calogero-Moser system with 3 bodies on a line and 2-parameter rational potential is the best known example of an FLD superintegrable system. We work out the structure theory for these FLD systems on 3D conformally flat space and show, for example, that they always admit a 1st order symmetry. A partial classification of FLD systems on complex 3D Euclidean space is given. This is part of a project to classify all 3D 2nd order superintegrable systems on conformally flat spaces.

It is shown that planar quantum dynamics can be related to 3-body quantum dynamics in the space of relative motion with a special class of potentials. As an important special case the $O(d)$ symmetry reduction from $d$ degrees of freedom to one degree is presented. A link between two-dimensional (super-integrable) systems and 3-body (super-integrable) systems is revealed. As illustration we present number of examples. We demonstrate that the celebrated Calogero-Wolfes 3-body potential has a unique property: two-dimensional quantum dynamics coincides with 3-body quantum dynamics on the line at $d=1$; it is governed by the Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz potential for parameter $k=3$., Comment: 13 pages, 24 refs; title modified, several explicit examples added, Abstract and Introduction extended, some statements clarified

In this work we study 2- and 3-body oscillators with quadratic and sextic pairwise potentials which depend on relative distances, $|{\bf r}_i - {\bf r}_j |$, between particles. The two-body harmonic oscillator is two-parametric and can be reduced to a one-dimensional radial Jacobi oscillator, while in the 3-body case such a reduction is not possible in general. Our study is restricted to solutions in the space of relative motion which are functions of mutual (relative) distances only ($S$-states). We pay special attention to the cases where the masses of the particles and spring constants are unequal as well as to the atomic, where one mass is infinite, and molecular, where two masses are infinite, limits. In general, three-body harmonic oscillator is 7-parametric depending on 3 masses and 3 spring constants, and frequency. We studied several aspects of the Mott metal-insulator transition in the disordered case. The model on which we based our analysis is the disordered Hubbard model, which is the simplest model capable of capturing the Mott metal-insulator transition. We investigated this model through the Statistical Dynamical Mean-Field Theory (statDMFT). This theory is a natural extension of the Dynamical Mean-Field Theory (DMFT), which has been used with relative success in the last several years with the purpose of describing the Mott transition in the clean case. As is the case for the latter theory, the statDMFT incorporates the electronic correlation effects only in their local manifestations. Disorder, on the other hand, is treated in such a way as to incorporate Anderson localization effects. With this technique, we analyzed the disordered two-dimensional Mott transition, using Quantum Monte Carlo to solve the associated single-impurity problems. We found spinodal lines at which the metal and insulator cease to be meta-stable. We also studied spatial fluctuations of local quantities, such as the self-energy and the local Green's function, and showed the appearance of metallic regions within the insulator and vice-versa. We carried out an analysis of finite-size effects and showed that, in agreement with the theorems of Imry and Ma, the first-order transition is smeared in the thermodynamic limit. We analyzed transport properties by means of a mapping to a random classical resistor network and calculated both the average current and its distribution across the metal-insulator transition.

Due to its great importance for applications, we generalize and extend the approach of our previous papers to study aspects of the quantum and classical dynamics of a $4$-body system with equal masses in {\it $d$}-dimensional space with interaction depending only on mutual (relative) distances. The study is restricted to solutions in the space of relative motion which are functions of mutual (relative) distances only. The ground state (and some other states) in the quantum case and some trajectories in the classical case are of this type. We construct the quantum Hamiltonian for which these states are eigenstates. For $d \geq 3$, this describes a six-dimensional quantum particle moving in a curved space with special $d$-independent metric in a certain $d$-dependent singular potential, while for $d=1$ it corresponds to a three-dimensional particle and coincides with the $A_3$ (4-body) rational Calogero model; the case $d=2$ is exceptional and is discussed separately. The kinetic energy of the system has a hidden $sl(7,{\bf R})$ Lie (Poisson) algebra structure, but for the special case $d=1$ it becomes degenerate with hidden algebra $sl(4,R)$. We find an exactly-solvable four-body $S_4$-permutationally invariant, generalized harmonic oscillator-type potential as well as a quasi-exactly-solvable four-body sextic polynomial type potential with singular terms. Naturally, the tetrahedron whose vertices correspond to the positions of the particles provides pure geometrical variables, volume variables, that lead to exactly solvable models.
