PurposeThis study aimed to present the methodology of the text data analysis to establish marketing strategies for fintech companies in a practical way. Specifically, the methodology was presented to convert customers' review data, which consisted of the text data (unstructured data), to the numerical data (structured data) by using a text mining algorithm “Global Vectors for Word Representation,” abbreviated as “GloVe”; additionally, the authors presented the methodology to deploy the numerical data for marketing strategies with eliminate-reduce-raise-create (ERRC) value factor analytics.Design/methodology/approachFirst, the authors defined the background, features and contents of fintech services based on a review of related literature review. Additionally, they examined business strategies, the importance of social media for fintech services and fintech technology trends based on the literature review. Next, they analyzed the similarity between fintech-related keywords, which represent the trends in fintech services, and the text data related to fintech corporations and their services posted on Facebook and Twitter, which are two of the most popular social media globally, during the period 2017–2019. The similarity was then quantified and categorized in terms of the representative global fintech companies and the status of each fintech service sector. Furthermore, the similarity was visualized, and value elements were rebuilt using ERRC strategy analytics.FindingsThis study is meaningful in that it quantifies the degree of similarity between customers' responses, experiences and expectations regarding the rapidly growing global fintech firms' services and trends in fintech services.Originality/valueThis study suggests a practical way to apply in business by providing a method for transforming unstructured text data into structured numerical data it is measurable. It is expected that this study can be used as the basis for exploring sustainable development strategies for the fintech industry.

The importance of corporate entrepreneurship is continuously highlighted as a crucial potential corporate growth strategy that seeks continued growth opportunities. Corporate entrepreneurship is perceived as a critical element of corporate performance, so studies on key internal factors that may affect the manifestation of such entrepreneurship within an organisation are gaining increasing attention. This is because an innovative organisational environment is vital for invigorating corporate entrepreneurship in the organisation. This study aims to show how managers and employees can design and run their organisations in a way that is conducive to innovation, value-creation and continued growth by examining how internal organisational support and imperative innovation culture manifests corporate entrepreneurship and supports organisational innovation. This study analysed how key internal factors affecting the manifestation of corporate entrepreneurship influence the organisational innovation of 229 Korean companies. This study intends to determine the internal factors that support and strengthen corporate entrepreneurship by shedding light on which of them affect the manifestation of corporate entrepreneurship necessary to nurture and develop more intrapreneurs. This research also aims to analyse how imperative innovation culture moderates the relationship among innovation activity, organisational innovation and risk-taking.

Herein, an unprecedented report is presented on the incorporation of size-dependent gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) capping into a conventional hole transport layer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). The hole transport layer blocks ion-diffusion/migration in methylammonium-lead-bromide (MAPbBr3)-based perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) as a modified interlayer. The PVP-capped 90 nm AuNP device exhibited a seven-fold increase in efficiency (1.5%) as compared to the device without AuNPs (0.22%), where the device lifetime was also improved by 17-fold. This advancement is ascribed to the far-field scattering of AuNPs, modified work function and carrier trapping/detrapping. The improvement in device lifetime is attributed to PVP-capping of AuNPs which prevents indium diffusion into the perovskite layer and surface ion migration into PEDOT:PSS through the formation of induced electric dipole. The results also indicate that using large AuNPs (> 90 nm) reduces exciton recombination because of the trapping of excess charge carriers due to the large surface area.

In the fourth industrial revolution period, multinational companies and start-ups have applied a sharing economy concept to their business and have attempted to better serve customer demand by integrating demand prediction results into their business operations. For survival amongst today’s fierce competition, companies need to upgrade their prediction model to better predict customer demand in a more accurate manner. This study explores a new feature for bike share demand prediction models that resulted in an improved RMSLE score. By applying this new feature, the number of daily vehicle accidents reported in the Washington, D.C. area, to the Random Forest, XGBoost, and LightGBM models, the RMSLE score results improved. Many previous studies have primarily focused on feature engineering and regression techniques within given dataset. However, this study is meaningful because it focuses more on finding a new feature from an external data source.

We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic ability for the prediction of histologic grades and prognostic values on recurrence and death of pretreatment 2-[18F]FDG PET/CT in patients with resectable thymic epithelial tumours (TETs). One hundred and fourteen patients with TETs who underwent pretreatment 2-[18F]FDG PET/CT between 2012 and 2018 were retrospectively evaluated. TETs were classified into three histologic subtypes: low-risk thymoma (LRT, WHO classification A/AB/B1), high-risk thymoma (HRT, B2/B3), and thymic carcinoma (TC). Area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) was used to assess the diagnostic performance of PET/CT variables (maximum standardised uptake value [SUVmax], metabolic tumour volume [MTV], total lesion glycolysis [TLG], maximum diameter). Cox proportional hazards models were built using PET/CT and clinical variables. The tumours included 52 LRT, 33 HRT, and 29 TC. SUVmax showed good diagnostic ability for differentiating HRT/TC from LRT (AUC 0.84, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.76 − 0.92) and excellent ability for differentiating TC from LRT/HRT (AUC 0.94, 95% CI 0.90 − 0.98), with significantly higher values than MTV, TLG, and maximum diameter. With an optimal cut-off value of 6.4, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for differentiating TC from LRT/HRT were 69%, 96%, and 89%, respectively. The purpose of this study is to investigate the contextual factors that facilitate informal workplace learning during the meeting process or after the meeting in the online context. This research utilized structural equation modeling technique and the target sample of this study was fulltime workers employed at various levels within a wide range of organizations. The results show that good meeting practice has a positive impact on external scanning among the three types of informal learning. Specifically, good meeting practice is not significantly related to learning with others and self-experimentation but is positively associated with external scanning. Interactional justice, which is comprised of interactional and informational justice, has a significant effect on learning with others and the self-experimentation learning type Neither interactional nor informational justice is significantly related to external scanning. Furthermore, the moderating effects of the relationship among good meeting practices, interactional justice and informal learning are based on demographic profiles, especially gender. The findings are distinctively different in terms of several hypotheses depending on gender.

We report which capabilities are essential to a successful demand-driven inter-organizational international technology transfer (ITT) when a business deal involves an emerging country recipient and a developed country source. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study collected opinions from 74 experts from 12 countries on technology transfer and diffusion, innovation systems and networks, and knowledge-intensive business services. In a preliminary attempt to identify which skills are critical, we present the perspective of emerging countries’ stakeholders. The suggested 28 critical capabilities can be used as an input for further empirical analysis. The conceptual framework can be applied to assess an intermediary’s performance for a given ITT project in which the demand arises from an emerging-country stakeholder.

The aim of this study was to develop a deep learning (DL)-based segmentation algorithm for automatic measurement of metabolic parameters of 18F-FDG PET/CT in thymic epithelial tumors (TETs), comparable performance to manual volumes of interest.A total of 186 consecutive patients with resectable TETs and preoperative 18F-FDG PET/CT were retrospectively enrolled (145 thymomas, 41 thymic carcinomas). A quasi-3D U-net architecture was trained to resemble ground-truth volumes of interest. Segmentation performance was assessed using the Dice similarity coefficient. Agreements between manual and DL-based automated extraction of SUVmax, metabolic tumor volume (MTV), total lesion glycolysis (TLG), and 63 radiomics features were evaluated via concordance correlation coefficients (CCCs) and linear regression slopes. Diagnostic and prognostic values were compared in terms of area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) for thymic carcinoma and hazards ratios (HRs) for freedom from recurrence.The mean Dice similarity coefficient was 0.83 ± 0.34. Automatically measured SUVmax (slope, 0.97; CCC, 0.92), MTV (slope, 0.94; CCC, 0.96), and TLG (slope, 0.96; CCC, 0.96) were in good agreement with manual measurements. The mean CCC and slopes were 0.88 ± 0.06 and 0.89 ± 0.05, respectively, for the radiomics parameters. Automatically measured SUVmax, MTV, and TLG showed good diagnostic accuracy for thymic carcinoma (AUCs: SUVmax, 0.95; MTV, 0.85; TLG, 0.87) and significant prognostic value (HRs: SUVmax, 1.31 [95% confidence interval, 1.16-1.48]; MTV, 2.11 [1.09-4.06]; TLG, 1.90 [1.12-3.23]). No significant differences in the AUCs or HRs were found between automatic and manual measurements for any of the metabolic parameters.Our DL-based model provides comparable segmentation performance and metabolic parameter values to manual measurements in TETs.

We perform a cross-national market segmentation and analyze differences in the evaluation of made-in-Korea electronic home appliances and cosmetics based on experience of and emotion towards Korean drama and K-pop. We conducted a survey of consumers in five countries among the Association of Southeast Nations member countries, which have widely accepted the Korean Wave. We identify six market segments across nations, from “Korean Wave evangelists” to “cultural vigilances,” according to the target nation’s experiences and emotions regarding the Korean Wave. This study could provide a useful insight into standardizing or localizing marketing programs as appropriate for each market segment’s characteristics.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate critical factors needed for an internal environment conducive to entrepreneurial activity. Also, this study aims to suggest improved measurement items that can be applied to national corporations in the national management environment where is much interested in the implementation of corporate entrepreneurship. Design/methodology/approach In particular, by using the corporate entrepreneurship assessment instrument (CEAI) and through the Delphi and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) surveys on the group of corporate entrepreneurship experts, a comparative analysis among the emergent four kinds of types is deducted with main internal environmental factors of corporate entrepreneurship activities in South Korea. Findings This study contributes to the decision-making of many organizations about new business directions and success factors to gain new growth opportunities with corporate entrepreneurship activities according to each of their own internal environment status. As a result of the AHP analysis on the opportunist type, work discretion was revealed as the most significant factor. Furthermore, the avoiding identical work approach/steps, the subjective work assessment and the opportunities to practice one’s own style were all recognized as crucial enough to occupy the top to fourth place in the overall importance priority. Originality/value Academically, the local organizational environmental critical factors based on an existing CEAI were issued by allowing the AHP survey with specific scenarios per corporate entrepreneurship activity. This can be applied through various means to benefit many organizations looking for continuous growth and innovation based on corporate entrepreneurship.

In recent years, studies that can maximize irregularity have increased as technological constraints weaken owing to the development of construction technology and the increase in demand for free-form structures. Considering this, free-form structures have been constructed using various materials. Concrete is considered most suitable for realizing an atypical shape because it is highly economical and can be assembled in a free form. However, not many studies have evaluated the structural performance of free-form concrete structures using free-form formwork 3D printer (F3D) technology, a 3D printing technology. Free-form structures must be designed to secure structural stability under both dead and live loads, as well as natural hazards such as wind, snow, and earthquakes. Therefore, in this study, we tested a free-form structure constructed by F3D printing using small-scale models that satisfy the similitude law with shaking tables. Furthermore, a finite element analysis was conducted to validate the small-scale tests. Lastly, the seismic performance of free-form concrete structures was evaluated based on the test and analysis results.

Multiple hazards, which threaten people’s lives and property, are the main concern for engineers in preventing dangers to buildings. In particular, densely populated areas, such as capital cities and tall buildings, are exposed to higher risks owing to multiple hazards. To rapidly evaluate the disaster assessment of tall buildings, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the U.S. proposed the integrated rapid visual screening system (IRVS). However, the IRVS system only considers U.S. conditions. Therefore, a Korean-oriented rapid visual screening system should be developed because the number of buildings over 200 m in Korea ranked fourth in the world with the highest density (500 people per square kilometer) among the top five countries based on the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s (CTBUH) database. This study describes a Korea-rapid visual screening (K-RVS) system that focuses on the structural safety of tall buildings in Korea. The K-RVS system was modified based on the IRVS, considering the Korean design standard (KDS) and Korean conditions. With the weight value for each characteristic, the scores for each hazard and final scores combined from the scores by multi-hazard can be obtained to conduct a disaster assessment of tall buildings subjected to multiple hazards.

This study aims to present the evolution mechanism of the aerospace industry cluster in terms of new quadruple helix and open innovation. This study analyzed aerospace clusters located in Gyeongnam province in the Republic of Korea. It emphasizes the importance of active cooperation among industry, government, and university participating in innovation cluster. In addition, this study points out that the cooperation of clusters in other regions is also important. It also emphasizes that a common open innovation culture among participating actors strengthens these collaborative ecosystems. In the past, Korea has been dependent on imports for most of the civilian and military sectors from US as a latecomer in the aerospace industry. At present, however, it produces its own advanced trainer called the T-50. This has a unique development path as a latecomer, and the aerospace innovation cluster played a major role in this development.

Concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs) are widely used in construction. To achieve composite action and take full advantage of the two materials, strain continuity at the steel–concrete interface is essential. When the concrete core and steel tube are not loaded simultaneously in regions such as beam or brace connections to the steel tubes of a CFST column, the steel–concrete bond plays a crucial role in load transfer. This study uses a validated finite-element model to investigate the bond-slip behavior between the steel tube and concrete in square CFST mega columns through a push-out analysis of eleven 1.2- × 1.2-m mega columns. The bond-slip behavior of CFST mega columns with and without mechanical connectors, including shear studs, rib plates, and connecting plates, is studied. The finite-element results indicate that the mechanical connectors substantially increased the maximum bond stress. Among the analyzed CFST mega columns, those with closely spaced shear studs and rib plate connectors with circular holes exhibited the highest bond stress, followed by plate connectors and widely spaced shear stud connectors. In the case of shear stud connectors, the stud diameter and spacing influenced the bond behavior more than the stud length. As the stud spacing decreased, the failure mode shifted from studs shearing off to outward buckling of the steel tube.

In this era of the fourth industrial revolution, the integration of big data and 3D printing technology with the construction industry has maximized productivity. Currently, there is an active effort to research the optimal cladding structure through 3D printing technology to reduce production costs. This paper proposes a new type of 3D print curtain wall, using a high-strength ABS-M30 polymer panel, which is stronger than the standard acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) polymer, as an internally reinforced structure. This structure is fabricated via fused deposition modeling, a 3D printing method, to reduce the weight of the general cement panel. In addition, the shape of the polymer board was designed; three shapes were considered—O, W, and X types—which aided in further reducing the weight of the cladding. After comparing the center deformation of the structure through a lateral load test and finite element method analysis, the optimal model was selected. The measured data of the two methods at a design wind speed of 100% showed a difference of approximately 10%; however, at 150% of the design wind speed, the difference between the two sets of data increased to 27%.

In this study, the fire resistance performance of steel–polymer prefabricated composite floors, which have a sandwich-type structure, was assessed via standard fire tests and analyzed using finite element analysis. This form of analysis should consider two aspects, namely the thermal and structural fields, so as to simulate complicated material properties and large deformations. As previous studies have already conducted analysis in the thermal field, this study entailed only the structural analysis based on the temperature distributions obtained from the thermal analysis. The variables of the specimens were the thicknesses of the top and bottom steel plates and polymers. According to the analysis results, the top steel plate thickness had no impact on the stability ratings, a criterion for fire resistance performance, whereas the bottom steel plate showed a linear correlation with the stability rating. An equation for the stability rating of composite floors was proposed, and an equation for fire resistance performance was devised based on the insulation ratings, which were obtained from the thermal analysis results.

Recently, much research with high-tech technology is being conducted in building inspection. In previous studies, thermography technology quickly and accurately inspected the concrete crack defects, and several machine learning models can reliably predict the crack depths. In this study, the most proper model would be proposed according to the concrete crack by evaluating the adaptability of the seven machine learning models. The models also predicted the crack depths, and the data were applied to each machine learning considering concrete temperature and external parameters. In machine learning, less critical features were ignored by filtering existing data to find useful features related to crack depths. Machine learning models are evaluated, and the structures of the models were investigated to determine the feature importance and part dependence. Those enabled us to decide the most proper machine learning according to the cracks.

Purpose This study aims to draw on Piaget’s theory of assimilation and accommodation (absorptive capacity) as having mediating roles to examine the effect of motivational factors in entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intention among engineering students. In addition, this relationship is analyzed along with the moderating effect of the home environment. Design/methodology/approach The structural equation model was applied to a sample of university students (736 respondents) engaged in an entrepreneurship education program in South Korea. Findings The findings highlight that the motivations of personal achievement, social welfare and social relationship were associated with assimilated students, and the motivations of personal achievement and cognitive interest were associated with accommodated students fostering entrepreneurial intention in their entrepreneurship education. Originality/value This finding contributes to the theoretical implications of absorptive capacity (assimilation and accommodation) in the learning process and has wider practical implications for course instructors in educational institutions who wish to promote the effectiveness of developing entrepreneurship knowledge and skills among engineering students.

The purpose of this study is to present defense R&D governance model for governance analysis and decision making in defense R&D programs. In particular, by utilizing the MIT Sloan IT governance matrix and through Delphi surveys of a group of defense R&D experts, an efficient governance model of national R&D and weapon systems acquisition area is deducted and at the same time policy implications and directions of defense R&D and weapon systems decision making processes for technology-pursuing countries are presented. This study contributes to the decision making of R&D and weapon systems acquisition programs that utilize defense R&D governance, by allowing many corporations trying to enter emerging economies to understand those countries' defense R&D governance models. This study emphasizes that the governance with the most optimal combination of the Decision types (R&D Principles, R&D Architecture, R&D Infrastructure, Business Application Needs, R&D Investment) and the Archetypes (National R&D Committee Monarchy, Defense Agency Monarchy, Federal, Defense Industries Monarchy) must be reflected on national defense R&D programs and weapons systems acquisition procedures, in accordance with the scale and budget of a given program. This can be applied through various means to benefit national defense R&D and weapons system-related projects in different countries.

The product management of disposable sanitary pads is important in supporting women’s health and a sustainable environment. This study investigates the importance of strategic product management through conjoint analysis. This study focusses on women’s disposable sanitary pads, a representative product of fast-moving consumer goods. We conducted a survey of 205 Korean women between the ages of 10 and 40 who had purchased disposable sanitary. We found that women’s preferences for products are influenced by product function, selling price, sales-promoting means. And it is also influenced by the characteristics of purchasing distribution channels. Based on the results of the conjoint analysis, three clusters were extracted through cluster analysis to reveal strategies for each cluster. This study provides a sustainable growth strategy regarding the social and environmental aspects of the product.

Purpose This study aims to empirically examine the conditions for latecomers to successfully pursue path-creating catch-up strategies. In particular, the company is divided into two conditions: the external environment, which refers to the gap in the market share between the leaders and latecomers, and the internal capacities of the company, such as the company’s absorptive capacity, re-combinative capabilities and technological innovation leadership. Design/methodology/approach Because firms supported by the government tend to be conservative in their decision-making and technology development strategies, governmental assistance is likely to negatively affect path-creating catch-up strategies. This study surveyed small to medium enterprises in the Korea IT industry and analyzed the latecomers’ catch-up strategies from internal and external environment perspectives. Findings After ensuring its innovation capacity by developing of internal capacity, it turned out to lead to path-creative catch-up strategy and market disparity and government dependence moderates this relation. While market disparity has a positive moderation effect, government dependence showed a negative moderation effect. Originality/value The authors proposed and tested hypotheses of how a firm’s path-creative catch-up strategy is adopted and succeeds. Regarding the internal conditions, the authors statistically proved that absorptive capabilities, re-combinative capabilities and technology innovation leadership are important factors for a firm’s technology innovation capacity.

The high-performance p-type metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS)-based gas sensor is an important subject of research in the field of gas-sensing technology. In this work, we demonstrated a p-type MOS-based thin-film transistor (TFT) nitrogen dioxide (NO2) gas sensor that used tin oxide (SnOX) for both the channel and sensing layers. The crystalline status, surface morphology, and atomic-bonding configuration of the thin-film were examined using X-ray diffraction, field emission-scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicated that the deposited thin-film was mainly composed of polycrystalline SnO with a tetragonal structure. The fabricated p-type SnOX TFT showed a maximum response value of 19.4-10 ppm NO2 at room temperature (RT, 25 °C) when operated in the subthreshold region, which was significantly higher than that of 2.8–10 ppm NO2 obtained from a p-type SnOX thin-film chemiresistor at RT. In addition, the SnOX TFT gas sensor showed significantly higher sensitivity to NO2 gas than to other target gases such as NH3, H2S, CO2, and CO at RT. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to a p-type MOS-based field-effect transistor-type gas sensor. Our experimental results demonstrate that the p-type SnOX TFT is a promising gas sensor that can operate at RT with high sensitivity and selectivity to NO2 gas.

Purpose Heuristics are used in the judgment and decision-making process of bank employees; however, discussions and research on the type or range of judgmental heuristics are very difficult to find throughout the world. In light of this, the purpose of this paper is to empirically analyze what types of heuristics are used in bank employees’ judgment and decision-making processes and the extent to which those types of heuristics prevent rational decision making due to the systematic biases they generate. In particular, this study aims to conduct empirical research based on various scenarios related to the banking industry. Design/methodology/approach To examine the heuristics in decision-making circumstances and the level of subsequent biases, the present study narrowed the scope of research to the three main types of heuristics introduced by Tversky and Kahneman (1974), namely, representativeness heuristics, availability heuristics and anchoring and adjustment heuristics. To analyze the bank employees’ decision making, this study specifically investigated the level of decision-making heuristics and the level of bias by focusing on these three types of heuristics. This study targeted bank employees who either sell financial products or are engaged in customer service work at a real/physical bank. Findings For representativeness heuristics, this study found bank employees’ judgment of probability was influenced by biases, such as insensitivity to prior probability, insensitivity to sample size, misconception of chance and insensitivity to predictability. Regarding availability heuristics, it found that bank employees judge the probability of events based on the ease of recalling an event instead of the actual frequency of the event, and so they fall prey to systematic biases. Finally, regarding anchoring and adjustment heuristics, this study found that employees fall prey to judgment biases as they judge the probability of conjunctive events and disjunctive events based on anchoring and insufficient adjustment. Originality/value Although people who are well-trained in statistics can avoid rudimentary errors, they fall prey to biased judgment at a similar level to those who are not properly trained in statistics when it comes to more complicated and ambiguous issues. It clearly indicates that it is risky to determine that financial experts would be more rational than the general public in making various judgments required in the policy-making process. To conclude, it is imperative to recognize the existence of heuristics-based systematic biases in the judgment and decision-making process and, furthermore, to reinforce the education and training system to improve bank employees’ rational choice and judgment ability.

Although public-private partnerships (PPP) and electronic government (e-government) have proven to be fruitful mechanisms for economic development and emerging economies seem to recognize their importance, consistent methods for analyzing the early planning stages of e-government portfolios are lacking. The present work utilized a comprehensive literature review to understand the evaluation criteria for PPP projects throughout the early-stage planning process. A qualitative meta-synthesis was employed to identify critical factors for PPP and e-government, with a particular focus on developing countries, PPP, and e-government criteria. Our research presents a framework named "PPP4e-Gov" (public-private partnerships for e-government). The framework compares risk and value factors of e-government PPP projects and adopts a weighted scoring model that estimates the risks that should be considered in a project and how much value a given e-government initiative may generate if the PPP option is chosen. As an illustration of how the framework may be used, the paper interviewed ten practitioners in Costa Rica who tried out PPP4e-Gov and showcased how to plan their e-government initiatives.
