Das neue Geoprofil 17/2023 zu Rohstoffen in Sachsen enthält einen Beitrag zur Zinnmineralisation im Westerzgebirge sowie einen über den Delitzscher Karbonatit-Komplex. Der Sn-Vererzungstyp bei Bockau und Aue-Bad Schlema ist völlig verschieden von dem der Greisen-, Trümerzonen-, Gang- und Skarntypen und ist auch nicht vergleichbar mit der Zinnvererzung der Felsitzone bei Freiberg. Die neuen Untersuchungen erbrachten erstmalig den Nachweis einer im Erzgebirge verbreiteten low-grade mineralization vom Typ einer frühvariszischen polystadialen, vorwiegend monomineralischen und metamorph geprägten Erzbildung. Insbesondere durch Bohrarbeiten der SDAG Wismut ist die Verbreitung der ultramafischen Lamprophyre (UML) und Karbonatite mit oberkretazischem Alter im Gebiet von Delitzsch gut bekannt. Microstructures in mantle rocks impact the way seismic waves travel through the Earth and are dependent on the pressure, temperature, and deformation applied to the rock. At approximately 660 km depth, an increase in seismic wave velocities mark a distinct boundary that separates the upper and lower mantle. Another boundary is found at approximately 2700 km depth and marks the beginning of the D" layer. Furthermore, observations of seismic anisotropy at these discontinuities have been made. These boundaries are largely believed to be related to phase transitions from ringwoodite [(Mg,Fe)2SiO4, space group Fd3m] to bridgmanite [(Mg,Fe)SiO3, space group Pbnm] to post-perovskite [(Mg,Fe)SiO3, space group Cmcm]. In order to make interpretations of these seismic observations, however, a sound understanding of what generates these microstructures is required.Here, we approach this problem through high pressure and high temperature experiments. We identify microstructures in polycrysalline mantle minerals resulting from in-situ transformation and deformation using radial and multigrain X-ray diffraction in the diamond anvil cell. In the first study we transform a bridgmanite analogue, NaCoF3, from a perovskite to post-perovskite structure. The following two studies investigate the transformation of an average mantle composition, pyrolite, at conditions relevant to the 660 km discontinuity and further deformation at pressures and temperatures corresponding to depths between 500 and 2400 km. In the final study, we test an aluminum rich 'pyrolite' composition (pyrolite minus olivine) in order to compare transformation and deformation microstructures to those observed in experiments on pure pyrolite.Results from radial diffraction experiments show the transformation from perovskite to post-perovskite in NaCoF3 are reconstructive in nature and for which we identify the orientation relationships. Major takeaways from the multigrain X-ray diffraction experiments are as follows: i) the decomposition from (ringwoodite + garnet) to (bridgmanite + davemaoite + ferropericlase) result in non-reconstructive 001 transformation textures in bridgmanite, 101 and 111 textures in davemaoite, and no preferred orientation in ferropericlase. ii) With further deformation, bridgmanite changes to 100 and 010 orientations with no change in either davemaoite or ferropericlase. iii) Textures in bridgmanite and davemaoite in pyrolite minus olivine are similar to those observed in our experiments on pure pyrolite.Finally, we use the results of these experiments to build a model for S and P-wave seismic anisotropy within a subducting slab and the surrounding mantle for multiple scenarios and compare our results to those of the literature. This interplay between experiments and seismic models are important in order to provide constraints on deformation, dynamics, and history of the Earth's interior.; Les microstructures des roches du manteau affectent la propagation des ondes sismiques dans la Terre. Cependant, une bonne compréhension de ce qui génère les microstructures associées à la déformation ou les transformations de phase est nécessaire pour interpréter les observations sismiques et les associer aux processus dynamiques dans le manteau.Ici, nous abordons cette question par le biais d'expériences à haute pression et à haute température en cellule à enclume de diamant. Nous identifions des microstructures résultant de transformations de phase ou de déformation dans des matériaux polycristallins pertinent pour le manteau, in situ, à l'aide de la diffraction des rayons X radiale ou multi-grains. Dans la première étude, nous transformons un analogue de bridgmanite, NaCoF3, d'une structure pérovskite à une structure post-pérovskite. Les deux études suivantes se concentrent sur la transformation d'une composition moyenne du manteau, la pyrolite, dans des conditions pertinentes pour la discontinuité à 660 km et une déformation supplémentaire à des pressions et des températures correspondant à des profondeurs comprises entre 500 et 2400 km. Dans le dernier chapitre, nous testons une composition 'pyrolite' riche en aluminium (pyrolite-minus-olivine) afin de comparer les microstructures de transformation et de déformation à celles observées expérimentalement sur la pyrolite pure.Les résultats d'expériences de diffraction radiale montrent que la transformation de pérovskite en post-pérovskite dans NaCoF3 est de nature reconstructive et nous identifions les relations d'orientation qui entrent en jeu. Les principales conclusions des expériences de diffraction des rayons X multigrains sont les suivantes : i) la décomposition de (ringwoodite + grenat) en (bridgmanite + davemaoite + ferropériclase) donne des textures de transformation non reconstructives 001 dans la bridgmanite, 101 et 111 dans la davemaoite, et aucune orientation préférentielle dans la ferro-périclase. ii) Avec une déformation supplémentaire, la bridgmanite passe à des orientations de type 100 puis 010 sans changement de texture observé, ni dans la davemaoite, ni dans la ferro-périclase. iii) Les textures de la bridgmanite et de la davemaoite dans la composition pyrolite-minus-olivine sont similaires à celles observées dans nos expériences sur la pyrolite pure.Enfin, nous utilisons les résultats de ces expériences pour construire un modèle d'anisotropie sismique des ondes S et P dans une plaque en subduction et dans le manteau environnant pour plusieurs scénarios et comparons nos résultats à ceux de la littérature. Cette combinaison entre les expériences et les modèles sismiques est importante pour fournir des contraintes sur la déformation, la dynamique et l'histoire de l'intérieur de la Terre.

Subduction zones are active sites of chemical exchange between the Earth’s surface and deep interior and play a fundamental role in regulating planet habitability. However, the mechanisms by which redox sensitive elements (e.g., iron, carbon and sulfur) are cycled during subduction remains unclear. Here we use Fe stable isotopes (δ56Fe), which are sensitive to redox-related processes, to examine forearc serpentinite clasts recovered from deep sea drilling of mud volcanoes formed above the Mariana subduction zone in the Western Pacific. We show that serpentinisation of the forearc by slab-derived fluids produces dramatic δ56Fe variation. Unexpected negative correlations between serpentinite bulk δ56Fe, fluid-mobile element concentrations (e.g., B, As) and Fe3+/ƩFe suggest a concomitant oxidation of the mantle wedge through the transfer of isotopically light iron by slab-derived fluids. This process must reflect the transfer of either sulfate- or carbonate-bearing fluids that preferentially complex isotopically light Fe.

Considering the ever-growing global demand for raw materials and the complexity of the geological deposits that are still to be found, high-quality extensive mineralogical information is required. Mineral exploration remains a risk-prone process, with empirical approaches prevailing over data-driven strategy. Amongst the many ways to innovate, hyperspectral imaging sensors for drill-core mineral mapping are one of the disruptive technologies. This potential could be multiplied by implementing machine learning. This dissertation introduces a workflow that allows the use of supervised learning to map minerals by means of ancillary data commonly acquired during exploration campaigns (i.e., mineralogy, geochemistry and core photography). The fusion of hyperspectral with such ancillary data allows not only to upscale to complete boreholes information acquired locally, but also to enhance the spatial resolution of the mineral maps. This paper focuses on artificial outcrop of permian lacustrine sediments of the Rudník horizon (298-297 Ma) and red siltstones of the Vrchlabí formation near Vrchlabí, where increased concentrations of uranium and thorium radionuclides were observed during previous researches. Radionuclides are concentrated in a few layers of black, grey and red shales, which makes about 20 m of the whole 250 m long studied profile. Rock samples were collected from localised radioactive layers and studied for mineralogical compositions, concentrations of radionuclides and autoradiographic and microscopic study of uranium and thorium bonds in these rocks. Laboratory measurements confirmed increased concentrations of both uranium and thorium in collected samples. Highest amount of uranium was measured in anoxic black shale (106,9 ppm U), highest amount of thorium in anomalous sample of red siltstone (76,6 ppm Th). Shales and siltstones main contents are albite, analcime, calcite, dolomite, muscovite and potasium feldspars. Acording to the study it is assumed, that the main source of radionuclides were redeposited pyroclastics from the Krkonoše piedmont basin area or synchronous volcanic activity. Hyperspectral remote sensing allows for studying large areas of interest through the physicochemical characterization of the observed surfaces.This thesis deals with the identification of minerals found on industrial sites from their reflectance spectra observed in the reflective domain [400-2500] nm. A parametric physical model is proposed to represent a spectrum as the sum of a continuum and localized spectral shapes representing absorption shapes. The first contribution is a spectral deconvolution procedure to adaptively estimate the number of absorptions in a spectrum as well as the associated parameters. This procedure is made up of three steps: continuum removal, absorptions pre-estimation, jointadjustment of continuum and absorptions. Absorptions pre-estimation is the key step, where the absorption parameters (positions, shape parameters) are estimated by an algorithm inspired by Orthogonal Matching Pursuit. This step provides spectrum decompositions for a varying number of absorption shapes, making it possible to use an order selection criterion to estimate their number. The second contribution concerns the identification of minerals for mixture spectra, inspired by a fuzzy logic method and based on the comparison of the estimated parameters with those of a predefined database. This solution takes into account the estimation uncertainties and the possible variations in the reflectance spectra of the minerals. The proposed methods are validated on numerous synthetic and real data, obtained from laboratory measurements. Processing these data raises challenging issues due to the various shapes of the absorptions, their possible overlapping, and their location over a wide range of wavelengths. In addition, extensive validation was performed on hyperspectral images acquired during the survey of two gypsum and kaolinite quarries. The minerals present on the sites are precisely identified.; La télédétection hyperspectrale permet l’étude de larges zones d’intérêt via la caractérisation physico-chimique des surfaces observées. Cette thèse concerne l’identification de minéraux rencontrés sur des sites industriels à partir de leurs spectres de réflectance observés dans le domaine réflectif [400-2500] nm. Un modèle physique paramétrique adapté est proposé pour représenter un spectre comme la somme d’un continuum et de formes spectrales localisées représentant les formes d’absorption. La première contribution est une procédure de déconvolution spectrale pour estimer adaptativement le nombre d’absorptions dans un spectre ainsi que les paramètres associés. Cette procédure est composée de trois étapes : retrait du continuum, pré-estimation des absorptions, ajustement conjoint du continuum et des absorptions. La pré-estimation des absorptions est l’étape clé, où les paramètres (positions, paramètres de formes) des absorptions sont estimés par un algorithme inspiré d’Orthogonal Matching Pursuit. Cette étape fournit des décompositions du spectre pour un nombre variable de formes d’absorption, rendant possible l’utilisation d’un critère de sélection d’ordre pour estimer leur nombre. La deuxième contribution concerne l’identification des minéraux pour des spectres de mélanges, inspirée d’une méthode de logique floue et basée sur la comparaison des paramètres estimés avec ceux d’une base de données prédéfinie. Cette solution tient compte des incertitudes d’estimation et des possibles variations des spectres de réflectance des minéraux. Les méthodes proposées sont validées sur de nombreuses données synthétiques et réelles issues de mesures en laboratoire, posant des difficultés d’analyse du fait d’absorptions de formes variées, possiblement superposées, et positionnées sur une plage très étendue de longueurs d’onde. De plus, une validation extensive a été effectuée sur des images hyperspectrales acquises dans le cadre du survol de deux carrières de gypse et de kaolinite. Les minéraux présents sur les sites sont précisément identifiés.

National audience; Environ 70% du relief émergé terrestre est caractérisé par des surfaces érosivespossédant un faible gradient topographique, aussi appelées surfaces d’aplanissement.Certains géomorphologues défendent l’idée que ces surfaces sont des reliques d’ancienspaléoreliefs, partiellement préservés des phénomènes d’érosion durant des dizaines demillions d’années. Une telle préservation en ferait les témoins privilégiés de l’évolutiondes surfaces continentales, depuis la formation de ces surfaces jusqu’à nos jours.Certaines des plus hautes surfaces d’aplanissement d’Afrique, localisées à plus de 2000m d’altitude, sont considérées dans la littérature comme étant des reliques d’unesurface Mésozoïque, la Gondwana surface (King, 1962). En particulier, le plateau deNyika (ca 2200 a.s.l.), localisé au nord du Malawi, est l’une des plus importantesreliques potentielles de cette paléosurface. Toutefois, la possibilité de préserver desreliefs aussi anciens est un sujet débattu dans la littérature, particulièrement sous unclimat tropical.L’exploration de ce plateau a permis d’identifier un niveau de cuirasse détritique,aujourd’hui sur un haut-topographique. Cette cuirasse, composé de clastes d’unecuirasse primaire riche en hématite cimentés par une matrice goethitique, a été datégrâce à la méthodologie de datation (U-Th)/He des oxydes et hydroxydes de fer.L’analyse minéralogique et géochimique de grains en provenance des clasteshématiques révèle la complexité de ces zones, qui sont pour la plupart composées d’unmélange de générations d’oxydes de fer. La datation de cette cuirasse a toutefois permisde faire ressortir que sa matrice possède un âge Quaternaire. A contrario, certainsclastes préservés, peu impactés par les phénomènes de dissolution/recristallisation àl’origine des mélanges générationnels, possèdent des âges remontant au Dévonien.La topographie initiale du plateau n’a pas été préservée, des bancs de cuirassesdétritiques se retrouvant aujourd’hui sur des hauts topographiques. Toutefois, cesrésultats montrent que des cuirasses détritiques se sont développés sur cette surface, ousur une surface supérieure adjacente, au cours du Dévonien avant d’être érodées pourpermettre de former les cuirasses aujourd’hui en surface. Par ailleurs, cette étude tendà supporter l’idée que le cuirassement des plateaux en contexte tropical joue un rôle clédans leur préservation.

The Per Geijer iron oxide-apatite deposits are important potential future resources for Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag (LKAB), which has been continuously mining magnetite/hematite ores in northern Sweden for almost 130 years. The Per Geijer deposits reveal a high phosphorus content and vary from magnetite-dominated to hematite-dominated ores, respectively. The high phosphorus concentration of these ores results from highly elevated content of apatite as gangue mineral. Reliable, robust, and qualitative characterization of the mineralization is required as these ores inherit complex mineralogical and textural features. The precise mineralogical information obtained by optical microscopy, SEM-MLA and Raman improves the characterization of ore types and will benefit future processing strategies for this complex mineralization. The different approaches demonstrate advantages and disadvantages in classification, imaging, discrimination of iron oxides, and time consumption of measurement and processing. A comprehensive mineral-chemical dataset of magnetite, hematite and apatite obtained by electron microprobe analysis (EPMA) and LA-ICP-MS from representative drill core samples is presented. Magnetite, four different types of hematite and five types of apatite constitute the massive orebodies: Primary and pristine magnetite with moderate to high concentrations of Ti (∼61–2180 ppm), Ni (∼11–480 ppm), Co (∼5–300 ppm) and V (∼553–1831 ppm) indicate a magmatic origin for magnetite. The presence of fluorapatite and associated monazite inclusions and disseminated pyrite enclosed by magnetite with high Co:Ni ratios (> 10) in massive magnetite ores are consistent with a high temperature (∼ 800°C) genesis for the deposit. The different and abundant types of hematite, especially hematite type I, state subsequent hydrothermal events. Chromium, Ni, Co and V in both magnetite and hematite have low concentrations in terms of current product regulations and thus no effect on final products in the future. In terms of a possible future hematite product, titanium seems to be the most critical trace element due to very high concentrations in hematite types I and IV, of which type I is most abundant in zones dominated by hematite. Further interest on other products is generated due to the high variability of hematite and apatite in some of these ores. Information obtained from comminution test works in the laboratory scale can be utilized to characterize ore types and to predict the behavior of ore during comminution circuit in the industrial scale. Comminution tests with a laboratory rod and ball mill of 13 pre-defined ore types from the Per Geijer iron-oxide apatite deposits were conducted in this study. The highest P80 values were obtained by grinding in the rod mill for 10 minutes only (step A). Grinding steps B (25 min ball mill) and C (35 min ball mill) reveal very narrow P80 values. Ore types dominated by hematite have significantly higher P80 values after the primary grinding step (A), which indicates different hardness of the ore types. P80 values are generally lowest after the secondary grinding step C ranging between 26 µm (ore type M1a) and 80 µm (ore type H2a). Generally, Fe content increases in the finer particle size classes while CaO and P contents decrease. The influence of silica or phosphorus seems to be dependent on the dominant iron oxide. Magnetite-dominated ore types are more likely to be affected in their comminution behavior by the presence of the silicates. Contrary, hematite-dominant ore types are rather influenced by the presence of apatite. The difference in the degree of liberation of magnetite and hematite between ore types depends rather on size fractions than the amount of gangue in the ore. Davis tube data indicates that magnetite can be separated from gangue quite efficiently in the magnetite-dominated ore types. Contrary to magnetite ore, hematite-dominated ore types cannot be processed by DT. It is favored to use strong magnetic separation in order to achieve a desirable hematite concentrate. The magnetic material recovered by DT is most efficiently separated at an intensity current of 0.2 A, whereas above 0.5 A the separation process is neglectable. Lime treatment can enhance the workability and hydro-mechanical properties of soil through different physical-chemical reactions, such as cations exchange and pozzolanic reaction. The effectiveness of lime treatment is expected to be water chemistry and climate dependent. To understand the effects of water chemistry and climate on lime-treated soils, the project DIGUE 2020 was set up involving a dike constructed at les Salin-de-Giraud using local saline soils. In this PhD study, a laboratory work was conducted on the soils taken from Salin-de-Giraud with and without lime treatment, with emphasis put on the effects of salinity and wetting-drying cycles.In order to well characterize the salinity effect, new methods were proposed to determine the dissolved salinity and the induced osmotic suction for unsaturated soils with consideration of dissolved and precipitated salts. The mechanisms of salinity effect on the liquid limit and compaction behaviour of untreated soil, and of the drying effect on the microstructure of compacted saline soil were clarified. The optimum lime content of soil mixed with deionized water, synthetic seawater, mixed salts solution were determined by pH method. Results showed that the optimum lime content increased with the increase of salt concentration, which can be attributed to the consumption of OH- ions by Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions in the salt solution, producing the precipitations of Mg(OH)2 and CaCO3 in the alkaline environment.The effects of salinity and aggregate size on the mineralogy, microstructure and water retention property of lime-treated saline soil were investigated. Results showed that there was no cementitious compounds detecting on X-ray diffraction pattern even after a curing time as long as 150 days, due to its low quantity and poorly crystallized or amorphous phase. As a result, the microstructure of lime-treated soil varied slight during curing. The matric suction of lime-treated specimens increased significantly during curing, while the total suction increased slightly. Both total and matric suctions of lime-treated specimens increased as salinity increased. The lime-treated specimens with larger aggregates exhibited a larger modal size and thus had a smaller air entry value.The mechanical behaviour and durability of lime-treated soils were investigated by performing mercury intrusion porosimetry, bender element and oedometer tests on untreated/lime-treated specimens and the specimens subjected to wetting-drying cycles. The lime-treated specimens, as compared to untreated specimens, exhibited higher resistance to wetting-drying cycles, with the pore size distributions keeping almost reversible. The wetting-drying cycles led to reversible changes of small stain shear modulus (Gmax) and an increase of soil compressibility. The synthetic seawater, compared to deionized water, resulted in higher Gmax and higher compressibility for lime-treated soil. After wetting-drying cycles, the lime-treated specimens with lager aggregates (Dmax = 5 mm) exhibited higher yield stress and lower compressibility than the lime-treated specimens with smaller aggregates (Dmax = 0.4 mm), Le traitement à la chaux peut améliorer la maniabilité et les propriétés hydromécaniques des sols grâce à différentes réactions physico-chimiques telles que l'échange cationique et la réaction pouzzolanique. Le comportement mécanique et la durabilité des sols traités à la chaux ont été étudiés en effectuant des essais de porosimétrie par intrusion de mercure, d'élément piézo-électrique et à l’oedomètre sur des échantillons non traités/traités à la chaux et des échantillons soumis à des cycles d’humidification-séchage.
