Abstract: International audience; This paper aims at reviewing and analysing the method of reflections. The latter is an iterative procedure designed to linear boundary value problems set in multiply connected domains. Being based on a decomposition of the domain boundary, this method is particularly well-suited to numerical solvers relying on integral representation formulas. For the parallel and sequential forms of the method appearing in the literature, we propose a general abstract formulation in a given Hilbert setting and interpret the procedure in terms of subspace corrections. We then prove the unconditional convergence of the sequential form and propose a modification of the parallel one that makes it unconditionally converging. An alternative proof of convergence is provided in a case which does not fit into the previous framework. We finally present some numerical tests.

Abstract: International audience; Biodiesel is a very promising alternative fuel that has its place in the future energy mix. The dependence of fuel properties on fatty acids profile will influence the choice of feedstock or appropriate treatment that it should undergo in order to respect biodiesel standards. The objective of this study is to find models that predict biodiesel’s viscosity, density, flash point, higher heating value, and oxidative stability based on saponification value, Iodine value and the polyunsaturated fatty acids content of feedstock. Biodiesel samples were produced from seventeen different blends of oils. Multiple linear regressions were used to obtain models. High accuracy prediction was obtained for density and higher heating value with prediction errors

Abstract: The hierarchical model of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation (HMIEM) is a framework based on the principles of self-determination theory (SDT) which describes human motivation from a multilevel perspective, and integrates knowledge on personality and social psychological determinants of motivation and its consequences. Although over the last decades HMIEM has grounded numerous correlational studies in diverse fields, it is conceptually defined as a schematic representation of the dynamics of motivation, that is not suitable for human and artificial agents research based on tracking. In this work we propose an analytic description named dynamic computational model of motivation (DCMM), inspired by HMIEM and based on continuous attractor neural networks, which consists in a computational framework of motivation. In DCMM the motivation state is represented within a self-determination continuum with recurrent feedback connections, receiving inputs from heterogeneous layers. Through simulations we show the modeling of complete scenarios in DCMM. A field study with faculty subjects illustrates how DCMM can be provided with data from SDT constructs observations. We believe that DCMM is relevant for investigating unresolved issues in HMIEM, and potentially interesting to related fields, including psychology, artificial intelligence, behavioral and developmental robotics, and educational technology.

Abstract: Objectif La lecture du sommeil est chronophage et necessite un haut niveau d’expertise. Le taux d’accord inter-scorer depasse tres rarement 90 %. A partir d’enregistrements provenant de patients avec des syndromes varies, cette etude vise a mettre en place une methode de classification automatique des stades de sommeil respectant deux conditions : la prise en compte des connaissances medicales (AASM) et le choix d’un processus proche d’une lecture manuelle. Methodes Soixante polysomnographies issues de patients investigues pour suspicion d’apnees du sommeil et inclues dans la cohorte sommeil des Pays de la Loire ont ete scorees manuellement selon les recommandations AASM. Leurs IAH sont compris entre 0 et 103/h (23/h ± 23/h). La classification automatique a ete realisee a partir des signaux electrophysiologiques AASM, en s’adaptant aux variabilites entre les patients. Elle reposait a la fois sur le contenu temporel et frequentiel comme l’amplitude des signaux ou la quantite d’ondes alpha, mais aussi sur les regles de transition ainsi que les motifs comme, entre autres, les complexes K et les fuseaux. Resultats Pour une classification en 5 stades, le Kappa de Cohen (κ) montrait un accord fort de 0,70 (± 0,10). Le taux d’accord atteignait 78,8 % (± 7,1 %). Pour chaque stade, le κ etait de : E : 0,75, N1 : 0,28, N2 : 0,68, N3 : 0,73 et SP : 0,75. Conclusion La classification automatique du sommeil obtient un accord fort. Elle s’inspire du processus de lecture manuelle : la classification est patient-dependante et repose sur les connaissances medicales issues du manuel AASM.

Abstract: This paper investigates the impact of the oxidizing agent used in the physical activation of pyrolysis chars on activated carbons (AC), and their efficiency in tar cracking. The materials are produced from buckwheat husk, which is a French local biomass. Slow pyrolysis was chosen to favor the production of raw chars. Activated chars were then prepared by physical activation under steam or CO2. The materials produced were physically and chemically characterized before being implemented in a fixed bed. The efficiency of materials in removing tar from syngas was studied, and ethylbenzene (EB) was chosen as the tar surrogate. The purification efficiency of the chars and AC was deduced from the EB conversion profiles in comparison with thermal cracking. The nature of the oxidizing agent impacted the porosity and mineral composition of the AC produced: CO2 activation produced ACs with more carbon and less ash content. This is because the reduction of carbon with carbon dioxide presents a kinetic between 2 and 5 times slower than that conducted in the presence of steam. CO2 activation also resulted in a higher relative microporosity (89%) than steam activation (61%), which itself gives a higher surface area. Pyrolysis char did not generate any interest for EB catalytic cracking, whereas ACs demonstrated higher performances. This is due to their higher level of porosity and higher ash content. BH–H2O, which presents higher porosity, produced a better catalytic effect and was more resistant to deactivation.

Abstract: International audience; For the first time, the influence of glass composition on the vapor hydration kinetics of the French AVM nuclear waste glass simulants was investigated. Three complex borosilicate glasses (>20 oxides) along with three simplified Na/(Ca, Na)/(Mg, Na)-alumino-borosilicate glasses with four or five oxides were altered at 50 °C in water vapor (95% RH) for up to 557 days. The solid characterization of the altered samples (by SEM, TEM, XRD, ToF-SIMS, SAXS) revealed that the rate-controlling vapor hydration mechanism is composition dependent. Abstract: This paper describes a real-time multi-objective predictive control strategy for the wheelchair ergometer platform, which allows simulating the manual wheelchair (MWC) propulsion in virtual reality (VR). A nonlinear least-square method is used to build the predictive wheelchair ergometer model, where the trust-region-reflective algorithm is adopted. A detailed study of the wheelchair dynamics, and its performance on the rollers, and the frictions are presented. The main contribution is the implementation of a wheelchair ergometer model into a proposed controller in order to provide realistic navigation within the VR world by accurately detecting and tracking the rotation of the driving wheels. In particular, the proposed strategy has two objectives: 1) to generate force feedback (haptics) during the push phase (hand-to-rim contact); 2) assistance control to make the wheelchair movement more realistic in the immersive virtual environment during the recovery phase (hand-to-rim no contact). Various numerical examples emphasize the flexibility of the approach and experimental results confirm that the proposed controller successfully tracks the speed reference. It is also shown that the real-time tracking ability of the explicit MPC (eMPC) controller is superior to that of the PI controller.

Abstract: International audience; The transportation sector accounts for a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions. To mitigate this problem, electric vehicles have been widely recommended as green vehicles with lower emissions. However, the driving range of electric vehicles is limited due to their battery capacity. In this paper, a bi-objective mixed-integer linear programming model is proposed to minimise total costs (fixed plus variable) as well as CO2 emissions caused by the vehicles used in the fleet for a Heterogeneous Vehicle Routing Problem with Multiple Loading Capacities and Driving Ranges (HeVRPMD). To solve the proposed model, an enhanced variant of Multi-Directional Local Search (EMDLS) is developed to approximate the Pareto frontier. The proposed method employs a Large Neighbourhood Search (LNS) framework to find efficient solutions and update the approximated Pareto frontier at each iteration. The LNS algorithm makes use of three routing-oriented destroy operators and a construction heuristic based on a multi-round approach. The performance of EMDLS is compared to MDLS, an Improved MDLS (IMDLS), non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGAII), non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm III (NSGAIII), and the weighting and epsilon-constraint methods. Extensive experiments have been conducted using a set of instances generated from the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem benchmark tests in the literature. In addition, real data is utilised to estimate fixed and variable costs, CO2 emissions, capacity, and the driving range of each type of vehicle. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed method to find high-quality non-dominated solutions.

Abstract: International audience; Scheduling maintenance routing for an offshore wind farm is a challenging and complex task. The problem is to find the best routes for the Crew Transfer Vessels to maintain the turbines in order to minimise the total cost. This paper primarily proposes an efficient solution method to solve the deterministic maintenance routing problem in an offshore wind farm. The proposed solution method is based on the Large Neighbourhood Search metaheuristic. The efficiency of the proposed metaheuristic is validated against state of the art algorithms. The results obtained from the computational experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. In addition, as the maintenance activities are affected by uncertain conditions, a simulation-based optimisation algorithm is developed to tackle these uncertainties. This algorithm benefits from the fast computational time and solution quality of the proposed metaheuristic, combined with Monte Carlo simulation. The uncertain factors considered include the travel time for a vessel to visit turbines, the required time to maintain a turbine, and the transfer time for technicians and equipment to a turbine. Moreover, the proposed simulation-based optimisation algorithm is devised to tackle unpredictable broken-down turbines. The performance of this algorithm is evaluated using a case study based on a reference wind farm scenario developed in the EU FP7 LEANWIND project.

Abstract: International audience; 1 Contexte Si l'existence de statues de Voltaire ou Corneille aux coins de nos rues et de voies Victor Hugo dans presque toutes les communes apparaît aujourd'hui comme une évidence de nos paysages urbains, il n'en a pas toujours été ainsi : la représentation des grands hommes et en particulier des grands écrivains dans l'espace public est un phénomène pour sa plus grande part postrévolutionnaire. La présence des auteurs et autrices dans l'espace urbain s'est développée durant le XIXe siècle et s'est accrue de manière déterminante sous l'effet du projet politique et pédagogique de la IIIe République. Cependant, les choix faits à cette époque peuvent sur-prendre : les écrivaines et écrivains statufiés ou célébrés par un nom de lieu sont parfois tombés dans l'oubli et l'éternité promise par la pierre s'est finalement révélée illusoire. Se pose donc aujourd'hui la nécessité de redécouvrir le patrimoine littéraire défini par les monuments répu-blicains anciens et modernes et, avec lui, l'histoire des lieux qui le célèbrent. Par « monument littéraire », on entend ici un élément durable du paysage urbain qui établit un lien entre un lieu et un auteur ou une oeuvre. C'est la trace matérielle de la présence de la littérature dans une culture commune, qui se manifeste sous la forme des maisons d'écrivains, des divers monuments commémoratifs érigés en leur hommage et des lieux marqués de leurs noms, que ce soit par une plaque commémorative, un nom de rue ou toute autre variation to-ponymique. Ces monuments font pleinement partie de l'histoire de la littérature, au sens où ils ont été souhaités, commandés, inaugurés, commentés par des écrivains-celui qui y est représenté et ses défenseurs. De plus, c'est autour de cette matérialisation particulière que se discute l'étendue et les transformations de la culture en vigueur conforme au projet culturel et idéologique de tel ou tel conseil municipal ou de tel ou tel gouvernement. En ce sens, c'est la matérialisation d'un canon particulier, qui est à la fois différent de celui de l'université et de celui des partis politiques, mais qui se négocie à la charnière entre ces deux univers, champ littéraire et champ politique.

Abstract: International audience; Different orientations of rays emitted by a 3D scene are captured in Light field (LF) imaging. In this, spatial along with angular information of the scene is captured. LF offers higher dimensional representation which needs advanced processing such as post-capture refocusing, depth sensing, compression, and reconstruction. These processing methods often induce artifacts as the quality is degraded. So, it is important to understand the mechanism of human visual quality perception to find the optimal performance that maximizes the quality of experience (QoE) of LF. The measurement of this data degradation is possible with the availability of a suitable dataset. In this paper, we present a comprehensive overview and discussion of publicly available LF datasets with emphasis on dataset with subject score. Furthermore, we discuss the current trends and existing challenges in LF dataset creation for QoE.

Abstract: International audience; Adsorption and mobility of radioactive Cs+ isotopes in soil are among the most important factors affecting the long-term environmental footprint of nuclear accidents such as Chernobyl (1986) and Fukushima Daiichi (2011). In particular, Cs+ ions can be retained through their exchange with K+ naturally present in muscovite mica, one of the common soil mineral components. The ClayFF force field allowed us to realistically represent local inhomogeneities of the structure, composition, and charge on the muscovite (001) surface and to identify three structurally different types of adsorption sites. We performed molecular dynamics simulations of Cs+ and K+ adsorption at the hydrated muscovite surface and used quasi-one-dimensional site-specific potential of mean force calculations to quantify the energetics of ion exchange in this system for each individual site and for the entire muscovite surface on average. Irrespective of the type of adsorption site, both K+ and Cs+ cations are preferably adsorbed on the basal (001) muscovite surface at the centers of ditrigonal cavities as inner sphere surface complexes. The free energy difference between the most favorable and the least favorable surface sites for Cs+/K+ ion exchange amounts to 11.7 kJ/mol, with the most favorable sites occupying half of the surface and the least favorable type - 1/6 of the surface and the rest exhibiting an intermediate adsorption and ion exchange capacity. The simulation results are compared with available thermodynamic estimates based on recent X-ray reflectivity measurements.

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a new saliency based stereoscopic image retargeting method based on the characteristics of the Human Visual System (HVS). A new stereoscopic saliency detection method is designed by adopting low-level features of intensity, color, texture and depth. Besides, the viewing bias factors including center bias and depth bias existing in the HVS are adopted for stereoscopic visual attention modeling. Since the HVS is sensitive to edges in images, we fuse the saliency and edge maps to predict the visual significance of image pixels for image resizing. With the visual significance measure, we propose an image resizing method by minimizing the structure and depth distortion for stereoscopic image retargeting. Experimental results have shown that both our stereoscopic saliency detection and image retargeting methods can obtain better performance than the existing related methods on the public databases.

Abstract: International audience; In practice, production planning and inventory control, both managed in the assembly systems framework, are often subject to various sources of exogenous uncertainty. In this regard, the present paper focuses on a single-level multi-component inventory control problem for the assembly systems replenishment under stochastic component procurement lead times. In order to be closer to the common assumption of MRP software tools, the case of discrete distributions of component lead times is considered, these latter being thus expressed as a number of periods. Since the finished product is assembled by using several types of component at the same time, the assembly process is stopped even if only a type of component is delayed. The assembly stopping forced by a components delay or stock-out is penalised by backlogging costs. Hence, the problem objective aims to minimize the total cost composed of holding and backlog ones. To address this problem, a joint chance constrained model is proposed and solved via an equivalent linear reformulation, the special structure of which is also deeply discussed. Apart from the effectiveness of the provided equivalent linear reformulation, the practical advantage of the proposed approach resides in its release from backlogging costs, which are often difficult to be quantified in real-life industrial applications.

Abstract: International audience; Computing the maximal pose error given an upper bound on model parameters uncertainties, called perturbations in this paper, is challenging for parallel robots, mainly because the direct kinematic problem has several solutions, which become unstable in the vicinity of parallel singularities. In this paper, a local uniqueness hypothesis that allows safely computing pose error upper bounds using nonlinear optimization is proposed. This hypothesis, together with a corresponding maximal allowed perturbation domain and a certified crude pose error upper bound valid over the complete workspace, will be proved numerically using a parametric version of Kantorovich theorem and certified nonlinear global optimization. Then, approximate linearizations are used in order to determine approximated tolerances reaching a prescribed maximal pose error over a given workspace. Those tolerances are finally verified using optimal pose error upper bounds, which are computed using global optimization techniques. Two illustrative examples are studied in order to highlight the contributions of the paper.

Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to investigate the direct hydrothermal liquefaction of oil mill wastewater (OMWW). Experiments were carried out at different temperatures (240-300°C), water contents (58-88wt.%) and reaction times (15-45min). Results show that the highest bio-oil yield was about 58wt.%, resulting in a higher heating value of 38MJ/kg. This was conducted at the following optimal conditions: water content 88wt.%, a temperature of 280°C, and 30min as reaction time. To put bio-oil into wide application, the various physical and chemical characteristics were determined. A detailed chemical composition analysis of bio-oil was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) coupled with a flame ionization detector (FID). The dominant compounds were identified by using NIST library. Analyses show that the bio-oil contains mainly oleic acid, hexadecanoic acid, fatty acid methyl ester, fatty acid ethyl ester, amino acid derived compounds and phenolic compounds.

Abstract: International audience; This paper introduces a model of environmental acoustic scenes which adopts a morphological approach by ab-stracting temporal structures of acoustic scenes. To demonstrate its potential, this model is employed to evaluate the performance of a large set of acoustic events detection systems. This model allows us to explicitly control key morphological aspects of the acoustic scene and isolate their impact on the performance of the system under evaluation. Thus, more information can be gained on the behavior of evaluated systems, providing guidance for further improvements. The proposed model is validated using submitted systems from the IEEE DCASE Challenge; results indicate that the proposed scheme is able to successfully build datasets useful for evaluating some aspects the performance of event detection systems, more particularly their robustness to new listening conditions and the increasing level of background sounds.

Abstract: International audience; In this work, simultaneous transesterification and thermochemical liquefaction of Pistacia Atlantica, an oleaginous plant, using ethanol as a reagent and a solvent was studied. Experiments were performed under temperatures ranging from 300 to 450°C and pressures ranging from 40 to 85 bar. Effects of temperature and pressure on conversion rate, bio-oil and gas yield were studied. The maximum conversion rate and bio-oil yield were 82% and 56% respectively and were obtained at 375°C and 43 bar. Gaseous products were mainly composed of carbon oxides at low temperatures. At 450°C the percentage of light hydrocarbons increased to more than 40% due to secondary cracking of bio-oil. Bio-oil was compared to conventional biodiesel and it was concluded that products have higher viscosity and oxygen to carbon ratios and lower hydrogen content and heating values. Products obtained at 300°C and 46 bar recorded the lowest viscosity that reached 6.8 mPa.s.

Abstract: International audience; Organoclays represent a special challenge for molecular simulations because they require accurate representation of the clay and the organic/aqueous sections of the model system and accurate representation of the interactions between them. Due to the broad range of force-field models available, an important question to ask is which sets of parameters will best suit the molecular modeling of the organo-intercalated smectites? To answer this question, the structure of the ethylene glycol (EG)-smectite complex is used here as a testing model because the intercalation of EG in smectites provides a stable interlayer complex with relatively constant basal spacing.Three smectite samples with substantially different layer charge and charge localization were selected for X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. Their molecular models were built and molecular-dynamics simulations performed using various combinations of the organic force fields (CGenFF, GAFF, CVFF, and OPLS-aa) with ClayFF and INTERFACE force fields used to describe smectites. The simulations covered a range of different EG and water contents. For every structure, the density distribution of interlayer species along the direction perpendicular to the layer plane was calculated and then used to optimize the XRD patterns for these simulated models.A comparison of these results with experimental XRD patterns shows very large discrepancies in the structures and basal spacings obtained for different layer charges as well as for different force fields and their combinations. The most significant factor affecting the accuracy of the calculated XRD patterns was the selection of the clay-mineral force-field parameters. The second important conclusion is that a slight modification of the basal oxygen parameters for non-electrostatic interactions (increase of their effective atomic diameters) may be a simple and straightforward way to improve significantly the agreement between the modeled XRD patterns with experiments, especially for high-charge smectites. Generally, among organic force fields, the least accurate results were obtained with CGenFF. For unmodified ClayFF, its combination with GAFF gave the best results, while the two other sets (OPLS-aa and CVFF) gave the best results in combination with ClayFFmod. The INTERFACE and INTERFACEmod produced much better results for low-charge montmorillonite than for high-charge smectites.

Abstract: This paper presents a Knowledge-Based Intelligent Decision system (KIDs) that takes information from a vision sensor within the manufacturing process and generates automatic planning/path-planning decisions in for collision avoidance in virtual CAM production. In this paper, the integration of KIDs approach is presented in the context of conventional multi-axis machining. The proposed system would be implemented in the conventional machining processes and, in this paper, its future implementation in the context of STEP-NC-based CAM systems is also discussed. This contribution provides secure solutions that can detect and avoid collisions using multiple solutions including tool diversion strategy, but also offers many other opportunities such as process change, sequence change, plan change, etc. A bi-turret machining scenario is used as a test case, where two tools working together possess a synchronization issue. Multi-tool synchronization cycles during preparation should take into account the management of materials left on the work part. The proposed solutions allow multiple opportunities where the machining units (blank groove) can be enriched with new associated data such as uncut material (identified visually) that may cause collisions during production. It is not limited however and therefore could be integrated into the STEP-NC in CAM simulation environment where the system is gaining acceptance from industry.

Abstract: International audience; In 1901 Henri Poincaré discovered a new set of equations for mechanics. These equations are a generalization of Lagrange's equations for a system whose configuration space is a Lie group which is not necessarily commutative. Since then, this result has been extensively refined through the Lagrangian reduction theory. In the present contribution, we extend these equations from classical mechanical systems to continuous Cosserat media, i.e. media in which the usual point particles are replaced by small rigid bodies, called micro-structures. In particular, we will see how the Shell balance equations used in nonlinear structural dynamics, can be easily derived from this extension of the Poincaré's result.

Abstract: International audience; New methods for pathogens identification are of growing interest in clinical and food sectors. The challenge remains to develop rapid methods that are more simple, reliable, and specific. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) appears to be a promising tool to compete with current untargeted identification methods. This article presents the intensive research devoted to the use of SERS for bacterial identification, from the first to the very recent published results. Compared to normal Raman spectroscopy, the introduction of nanoparticles for SERS acquisition introduces a new degree of complexity. Bacterial Raman fingerprints, which are already subject to high spectral variability for a given strain, become then very dependent on numerous experimental parameters. To overcome these limitations, several approaches have been proposed to prepare the sample, from the microbiological culture conditions to the analysis of the spectrum including the coupling of nanoparticles on the bacterial membrane. Main strategies proposed over the last 20 years are examined here and discussed in the perspective of a protocol transfer towards industry.

Abstract: International audience; Borosilicate glasses are considered for the long-term confinement of high-level nuclear wastes. External irradiations with 1 MeV He+ ions and 7 MeV Au5+ ions were performed to simulate effects produced by alpha particles and by recoil nuclei in the simulated SON68 nuclear waste glass. To better understand the structural modifications, irradiations were also carried out on a 6-oxides borosilicate glass, a simplified version of the SON68 glass (ISG glass). The mechanical and macroscopic properties of the glasses were studied as function of the deposited electronic and nuclear energies. Alpha particles and gold ions induced a volume change up to −0.7% and −2.7%, respectively, depending on the glass composition. Nano-indentations tests were used to determine the mechanical properties of the irradiated glasses. A decrease of about −22% to −38% of the hardness and a decrease of the reduced Young's modulus by −8% were measured after irradiations. The evolution of the glass structure was studied by Raman spectroscopy, and also 11B and 27Al Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (MAS-NMR) on a 20 MeV Kr irradiated ISG glass powder. A decrease of the silica network connectivity after irradiation with alpha particles and gold ions is deduced from the structural changes observations. NMR spectra revealed a partial conversion of BO4 to BO3 units but also a formation of AlO5 and AlO6 species after irradiation with Kr ions. The relationships between the mechanical and structural changes are also discussed

Abstract: Recent literature about quality control has investigated the continuous surveillance of the ratio of two normal random variables under the assumption of no measurement error. However, in practice, measurement errors always exist in quality control applications and may considerably affect the performance of control charts. In this paper, the performance of the Shewhart-RZ control chart is investigated in the presence of a measurement error and modelled by a linear covariate error model. Several figures and tables are generated and commented to show the statistical performance of the Shewhart-RZ control chart for different sources of the measurement error. Two examples illustrate the use of this chart on a quality control problem simulated from the food industry and a real industrial case from a plant treating batteries for recyclement.

Abstract: We study in this paper a generalized coupon collector problem, which consists in analyzing the time needed to collect a given number of distinct coupons that are drawn from a set of coupons with an arbitrary probability distribution. We suppose that a special coupon called the null coupon can be drawn but never belongs to any collection. In this context, we prove that the almost uniform distribution, for which all the non-null coupons have the same drawing probability, is the distribution which stochastically minimizes the time needed to collect a fixed number of distinct coupons. Moreover, we show that in a given closed subset of probability distributions, the distribution with all its entries, but one, equal to the smallest possible value is the one, which stochastically maximizes the time needed to collect a fixed number of distinct coupons. Abstract: International audience; This paper presents a research study which aims at determining optimal locations of regional distribution centers in a collaborative distribution network. We consider a multi-layered distribution system between a cluster of suppliers from a given region and several thousands customers spread over the whole country. The optimization problem consists of finding the locations of intermediate logistics facilities called regional distribution centers and assigning customers to these facilities according to one year of historical data. The distribution system combines full truckload (FTL) routes and less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments. The use of several rates for transportation, as well as the high impact of seasonality implies that, for each shipping date, the number of FTL routes and the cost of LTL shipments should be precisely evaluated. This problem is modeled as a mixed integer linear problem and used as a decision aiding tool on a real case study related to the distribution of horticultural products in France.

Abstract: International audience; Several studies typically arise from the interaction of discrete planning algorithms or control and continuous processes, normally called hybrid control systems. It consists in three distinct levels, the controller, the plant and the interface. Hybrid control systems are conventionally modeled by switching patterns using the whole system instead of atomic resource. Therefore, the reconfiguration process is complex because it must take into account the system as a whole, making the hybrid control systems inflexible and more susceptible to uncertainties. The need for flexibility thus leads several teams to investigate the application of holonic paradigm to hybrid control systems. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the possibility to apply almost directly a holonic discrete-event based reference architecture to hybrid control systems. A case study of industrial electricity generation process was taken, specifically a combined cycle plant (CCP) for verifying the proper operation of the proposed architecture.

Abstract: International audience; Configuration design requires designers to develop a configuration by selecting and assembling from a subset of configurable modules according to customer requirements and engineering or physical constraints. In return, this does provide designers with a rapid and cost-efficient method to develop new products. However, unlike other applications, the number of alternative configurations from which designers can select the most suitable configuration is overly large owing to the vast number of multidisciplinary modules involved in industrial mechatronic systems. The paper proposes a configuration design method for mechatronic systems in the context of industrial manufacturing. For the large and complex mechatronic systems for manufacturing applications, with the support of the interface compatibility rules and the elimination algorithm in the configuration design method, the number of alternative combinations from which designers select the most suitable combination can be significantly reduced. The effectiveness and applicability of the proposed configuration design method is demonstrated with a robotic welding system.

Abstract: International audience; The quantity of organic pollutants present in wastewater is classically evaluated by measuring the quantity of dissolved oxygen during five days; it is quantified by the so called BOD5 parameter (Biological Oxygen Demand) [1]. This work constitutes the first step of an overall strategy targeting to improve the monitoring of BOD5. We focus on the development of a microsystem approach allowing monitoring the O2 consumption induced by the biodegradation process of organic matter. To evaluate the organic pollutants concentration, we use Escherichia coli as bacterial indicator, confined in a PDMS-glass chip. Their metabolic activity in presence of organic molecules is deduced from their oxygen consumption. These measurements are ensured by optical sensors present in each of the five instrumented chambers of the chip. The results show that the microsystem approach is suitable to measure simultaneously different concentrations of organic load, and that it is possible to reduce the analysis time. By examining the O 2 diffusion towards the walls of the device, we analyse the different part of the experimental results; it allows predicting, in the future, a precise evaluation of the BOD value within a few hours.

Abstract: Double-strand breaks (DSBs) result from the attack of both DNA strands by multiple sources, including radiation and chemicals. DSBs can cause the abnormal chromosomal rearrangements associated with cancer. Recent techniques allow the genome-wide mapping of DSBs at high resolution, enabling the comprehensive study of their origins. However, these techniques are costly and challenging. Hence, we devise a computational approach to predict DSBs using the epigenomic and chromatin context, for which public data are readily available from the ENCODE project. We achieve excellent prediction accuracy at high resolution. We identify chromatin accessibility, activity, and long-range contacts as the best predictors. Abstract: The research on autonomous robotics has focused on the aspect of information fusion from redundant estimates. Choosing a convenient fusion policy, that reduces the impact of unmodeled noise, and is computationally efficient, is an open research issue. The objective of this work is to study the problem of underwater localization which is a challenging field of research, given the dynamic aspect of the environment. For this, we explore navigation task scenarios based on inertial and geophysical sensory. We propose a neural network framework named B-PR-F which heuristically performs adaptable fusion of information, based on the principle of contextual anticipation of the localization signal within an ordered processing neighborhood. In the framework black-box unimodal estimations are related to the task context, and the confidence on individual estimates is evaluated before fusing information. A study conducted in a virtual environment illustrates the relevance of the model in fusing information under multiple task scenarios. A real experiment shows that our model outperforms the Kalman Filter and the Augmented Monte Carlo Localization algorithms in the task. We believe that the principle proposed can be relevant to related application fields, involving the problem of state estimation from the fusion of redundant information.

Abstract: International audience; The research on robot tracking has focused on the problem of information fusion from redundant parametric estimations, though the aspect of choosing an adaptive fusion policy, that is computationally efficient, and is able to reduce the impact of un-modeled noise, are still open issues.The objective of this work is to study the problem of underwater robot localization. For this, we have considered a task relying on inertial and geophysical sensory. We propose an heuristic model that performs adaptable fusion of information based on the principle of contextually anticipating the localization signal within an ordered neighborhood, such that a set of nodes properties is related to the task context, andthe confidence on individual estimates is evaluated before fusing information. The results obtained show that our model outperforms the Kalman filter and the Augmented Monte Carlo Localization algorithms in the task.

Abstract: Objectives: In type III home polygraphy (HPG), Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) is calculated over the total recording time rather than the total sleep time (TST) as in polysomnography (PSG) and it is, therefore, underestimated. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of an automatic sleep/wake estimation algorithm on the AHI calculation. Methods: The study included 176 patients admitted to the sleep laboratory for a PSG recording. The sleep/wake estimation algorithm used a single lead EEG (FP2-A1) associated to HPG signals (tracheal sounds, nasal airflow, actimetry, light, respiratory inductive plethysmography and suprasternal pressure). AHI using the enhanced HPG (AHIHPG+) scoring was compared with manual AASM scoring of both HPG (AHIHPG) and PSG (AHIPSG). Based on the AHI, patients were diagnosed with mild, moderate or severe sleep apnea. Results: Cohen’s Kappa coefficient, sensitivity, specificity and the positive predictive value for the detection of wakefulness were 0.72, 78%, 94% and 78% respectively. TST estimation resulted in a better AHI assessment (Figure 1). In comparison to AHIPSG, a total of 54 patients were misclassified, using AHIHPG, as mild or moderate instead of moderate or severe. One third (18/54) of these patients would have been diagnosed properly based on AHIHPG+. Conclusions: Enhanced HPG using single lead EEG is an efficient and cost-effective method for TST estimation and AHI calculation.

Abstract: Recently it has been discovered that the elliptic flow, v2, of composite charged particles emitted at midrapidity in Heavy-Ion collisions at intermediate energies shows the strongest sensitivity to the Nuclear Equation of State (EoS) which has been observed up to now within a microscopic model. This dependence on the nuclear EoS is predicted by Quantum Molecular Dynamics (QMD) calculations [1] which show as well that the absorption or rescattering of in-plane emitted particles by the spectator matter is not the main reason for the EoS dependence of the elliptic flow at mid-rapidity but different density gradients (and therefore different forces) in the direction of the impact parameter (x-direction) as compared to the direction perpendicular to the reaction plan (y-direction), caused by the presence of the spectator matter. The stronger density gradient in y-direction accelerates the particles more and creates therefore a negative v2. Abstract: Acceped for publication in Phys.Rev.C; International audience; The present work investigates the uncertainties in a nuclear liquid-drop model. The model parameters, their uncertainties and correlations, are determined through standard regression analysis that includes a statistical treatment of the errors of the model. The adjustment of the model is based on experimental binding energies corrected by the Thomas-Fermi shell corrections. The uncertainties are then propagated onto observables to reveal the reliability of the predictions and insight is provided to guide further research. Standard regression analysis is further extended to encompass experimental uncertainties as well as correlations. Strong support for such an extension can be found in Bayesian inference. The uncertainties and the correlations regarding microscopic corrections are not currently known, however, when available, these contributions may be included through this extended formalism.
