In the current work, the micromechanical behavior and work hardening behavior of Fe-0.1C–10Mn (in wt.%) steel deformed at 100, 63, 25 and −50 °C were investigated via in-situ high-energy X-ray diffraction (HE-XRD) technique. As the deformation temperature decreased, the yield strength (YS) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) increased, while the total elongation (TE) reached a maximum value at 25 °C. The transformation kinetics of retained austenite (RA) was fitted by the Olson and Cohen (OC) model. The phase stress and flow stress contributed by the constituent phases were obtained based on the lattice strain and the volume fraction of the corresponding phase. The work hardening rate was decomposed into four contributors related to the TRIP effect and load partitioning, ie., the austenite phase stress, load partitioning between austenite and martensite, martensitic formation rate and load partitioning between ferrite and austenite. The influence of each contributor on the work hardening behavior was quantitatively evaluated and stacked, the stacked results agreed reasonably well with the experimental work hardening rate obtained from the true stress-strain curve. Finally, the volume fraction of austenite to martensite transformation promoted by the Lüders band (LB) and the stacking fault energy (SFE) of RA were found to be highly temperature-dependent. A linear relationship was revealed between the volume fraction of austenite to martensite transformation during the LB propagation and the SFE of RA. These findings offer insights into the TRIP effect and the LB propagation in medium-Mn steels.

Video super-resolution aims to generate high-resolution video sequences with realistic details from existing low-resolution video sequences. However, most existing video super-resolution models require substantial computational power and are not suitable for resource-constrained devices such as smartphones and tablets. In this paper, we propose a lightweight video super-resolution (LightVSR) model that employs a novel feature aggregation module to enhance video quality by efficiently reconstructing high-resolution frames from compressed low-resolution inputs. LightVSR integrates several novel mechanisms, including head-tail convolution, cross-layer shortcut connections, and multi-input attention, to enhance computational efficiency while guaranteeing video super-resolution performance. Extensive experiments show that LightVSR achieves a frame rate of 28.57 FPS and a PSNR of 39.25 dB on the UDM10 dataset and 36.91 dB on the Vimeo-90k dataset, validating its efficiency and effectiveness.

Improvement of corrosion resistance in high-strength Al–Si–Cu–Mg casting alloy is an important issue for its application in humid and corrosion environment. In this paper, the effect of Cr on microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of Al–9Si-1.2Cu-0.5 Mg alloy were investigated. The results indicate that 0.052 % and 0.106 % Cr addition shows a slight strengthening for mechanical properties by introducing AlSiFeCr dispersoids, 0.052 % Cr addition effectively enhances the corrosion resistance of the alloy. The addition of 0.052%Cr not only increase the thickness and stability of the passive film, but also has an obvious effect on the charge transfer process. 0.052 % Cr addition reduces the potential difference between cathode phases and Al matrix. The results of first-principles calculations indicate that the (001) surface of CrO2 would have an effect of adsorbing Cl− ions in the passive film/solution interface, the interaction between Cl and neighboring Cr atoms implies the formation of chemical bonds between Cl atoms and the surrounding Cr atoms at adsorption sites. It contributes to weaken the attack of the passive film by Cl− ions. When Cr level increases to 0.106 %, the appearance of AlSiFeCr dispersoids may result in the additional electrochemical process and weaken the protection on the matrix. This paper designs a novel Al–Si–Cu–Mg–Cr casting alloy with high mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance, expanding automotive industry application of casting aluminum alloy.

A novel Cu-added medium-Mn steel with a chemical composition of Fe–0.27C–9.1Mn–1.86Al–3.3Cu (wt.%) was designed and subjected to intercritical annealing (IA) temperature range from 620 °C to 680 °C for 1 h. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) increases and the yielding strength (YS) decreases with the IA temperature increasing. The YS of 824 MPa, UTS of 1222 MPa, total elongation (TE) of 55%, and product of strength and elongation (PSE) of 67.2 GPa·% are achieved after IA at 660 °C. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed that Cu-rich nanoparticles precipitate in the ferrite. The in-situ high-energy X-ray diffraction (HE-XRD) experiments show that at the beginning of plastic deformation, both austenite and ferrite bear the applied load. The load is mainly undertaken by martensite with effective transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) effect triggered. The YS of ferrite is significantly higher than that of austenite. The individual contribution of solid solution strengthening, grain refinement strengthening, dislocation strengthening, and precipitation strengthening in ferrite and austenite is analyzed. The discrepancy between the YS of ferrite and austenite is mainly attributed to the precipitation strengthening due to the Cu-rich nanoparticles precipitation. The moderate mechanical stability and the collaboration of TRIP and twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) effects of austenite contributed to the enhanced strain hardening capability and resulted in large ductility.

Phase transformation during austenitizing process and heat treatment process under slow cooling of high-carbon bainitic bearing steel is still unclear. Direct nano-scale microscopic observation and in-situ X-ray diffraction investigations have been used to conduct in-situ investigates of phase transformation of the tested steel, including austenitizing and two-step isothermal process under slow cooling. Results show that the austenitizing process of the sample mainly includes the formation of austenite and dissolution of cementite. Rapid phase transformation stage during the austenitizing process occurs, and it is caused by the diffusion rate of alloying and carbon atoms at different temperatures. The martensitic and bainitic transformation can occur during the low-temperature two-step isothermal transformation. Moreover, the initial bainitic transformation rate greatly accelerates due to the introduction of preformed phase. The evolution of supercooled austenite have been explored to further understand the phase transformation behavior. The analysis of diffraction peak of undercooled austenite shows that the asymmetry of austenite peak occurs before the two-step isothermal process. The asymmetry is attributed to the development of carbon-rich and carbon-poor zones in austenite. The proportion of filmy austenite in austenite increases as the bainitic isothermal time prolonged. Moreover, the increase rate of carbon concentration in filmy untransformed austenite is large.

Abstract Background With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing, various treatments have become widely practiced. Stem cells have a wide range of applications in the treatment of lung diseases and have therefore been experimentally used to treat patients with COVID-19, but whether the expanded use of stem cells is safe and reliable still lacks enough evidence. To address this issue, we systematically reviewed the safety and efficiency of stem cell therapy in COVID-19 cases. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, CNKI, WanFang, VIP and SinoMed up to January 18, 2022. The included studies were assessed using the Risk-of-bias tool 1.0 and MINORS instrument. The adverse events, mortality, length of hospital day and laboratory parameters were analyzed by meta-analysis. We adhered to PRISMA reporting guideline. Results We have included 17 studies meeting the inclusion data. There were no significant differences in AEs (OR = 0·39, 95% CI = 0·12 to 1·33, P = 0·13, I2 = 58%) and SAEs (OR = 0·21, 95% CI = 0·04 to 1·03, P = 0·05, I2 = 0%) between stem cell therapy group and control group. Improving the synergy between strength and ductility of medium carbon steel, a multi-scale lamellar structure was developed via hot water quenching and warm rolling at different temperatures. The multi-scale lamellar structure is composed of banded proeutectoid ferrite phase, fine equiaxed ferrite and cementite. The average sizes of subgrains and grains of warm rolled samples at 550 °C is 0.53 μm and 2.3 μm, respectively. When the rolling temperature went up, the fraction of HAGBs increased while the fraction of LAGBs decreased. It is found that the dislocations gradually localized from uniformity with increasing rolling temperature. When the rolling temperature was 650 °C, an obvious substructure was formed, and a large proportion of cementite was spheroidized. The best combination of strength and uniform elongation was obtained by rolling at 550 °C with tensile strength of about 1.2 GPa. In-situ high-energy X-ray study showed that the loads of ferrites with different orientations were similar in the elastic stage, and the stress distribution after yield was significantly different. It is considered that LAGBs strengthening accounts for more than 35%. The strengthening mechanism was verified by in-situ high energy X-ray, and the accuracy of multiscale-LAGBs strengthening theory was verified.

A comprehensive understanding of the structural characteristics and mechanical behavior of Fe-containing phases is important for high-Fe-level Al-Si alloys. In this paper, the crystal characteristics, thermal stability, thermophysical properties and mechanical behavior of multicomponent α-AlFeMnSi and α-AlFeMnCrSi phases are investigated by experimental studies and first-principles calculations. The results indicate that it is easier for Fe and Cr to substitute the Mn-12j site in α-AlMnSi in thermodynamics; Cr is preferred to Fe for substituting Mn-12j/k sites due to its lower formation enthalpy after single substitutions at Mn atom sites. The α-AlFeMnCrSi phase shows higher thermal stability, modulus and intrinsic hardness and a lower volumetric thermal expansion coefficient at different temperatures due to the strong chemical bonding of Si-Fe and Si-Cr. Moreover, the α-AlFeMnCrSi phase has a higher ideal strength (10.65 GPa) and lower stacking fault energy (1.10 × 103 mJ/m2). The stacking fault energy evolution of the different Fe-containing phases is mainly attributed to the differential charge-density redistribution. The strong chemical bonds of Si-Fe, Si-Mn and Si-Cr are important factors affecting the thermophysical and mechanical behaviors of the α-AlFeMnCrSi phase.

In recent years, ultra-fine-grained Fe–C alloy have received widespread attention because of their high levels of strength, hardness, and wear resistance. However, these alloy have strict requirements on control of the process parameters during production to meet product specifications. This study was aimed at designing a prediction model for their mechanical properties, which could ultimately promote the industrial development of ultra-fine-grained Fe–C alloy. The effect of process parameters on the mechanical properties of ultra-fine-grained Fe–C alloy was analyzed by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). By fusing experimental combinations of alloy composition, rolling process, annealing process, and resultant mechanical properties into a dataset for training and verification, a machine-learning-based prediction model of mechanical properties of ultra-fine-grained Fe–C alloy was constructed and tested. When choosing the machine learning algorithm, the best network model was obtained for this application by optimizing a conventional backpropagation (BP) network structure: a three-layer network structure, with a learning rate of 0.5, 18 hidden layer neurons, and activation functions of the hidden and output layers, namely Tansig and Purelin (MATLAB functions), respectively. Finally, the sample data was divided into training set and verification set, and the prediction accuracy, efficiency and generalization ability of BP neural network (BPNN), genetic neural network (GA-BP) and support vector machine (SVM) were compared and analyzed. The superiority of BPNN in the prediction of mechanical properties of ultrafine grained Fe–C alloy was determined, and the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of the BPNN for tensile strength, yield strength and uniform elongation are 3.02%, 4.47% and 6.47% respectively, and the number of training steps is 412, which are less than the other two models. The result lays a foundation for the production of high stability and high performance steel products.

Abstract Background Hox transcription factors are master regulators of animal development. Although highly conserved, they can contribute to the formation of novel biological characteristics when modified, such as during the generation of hybrid species, thus potentially serving as species-specific molecular markers. Here, we systematically studied the evolution of genomic sequences of Hox loci in an artificial allotetraploid lineage (4nAT, 4n = 200) derived from a red crucian carp (♀, RCC, 2n = 100) × common carp (♂, CC, 2n = 100) cross and its parents (RCC and CC). Results PCR amplification yielded 23 distinct Hox gene fragments from 160 clones in 4nAT, 22 fragments from 90 clones in RCC, and 19 fragments from 90 clones in CC. Sequence alignment of the HoxA3a and HoxC10a genes indicated both the inheritance and loss of paternal genomic DNA in 4nAT. The HoxA5a gene from 4nAT consisted of two subtypes from RCC and two subtypes from CC, indicating that homologous recombination occurred in the 4nAT hybrid genome. Moreover, 4nAT carried genomic pseudogenization in the HoxA10b and HoxC13a loci. Interestingly, a new type of HoxC9a gene was found in 4nAT as a hybrid sequence of CC and RCC by recombination in the intronic region. Conclusion The results revealed the influence of Hox genes during polyploidization in hybrid fish. The data provided insight into the evolution of vertebrate genomes and might be benefit for artificial breeding programs.

For water dynamics investigation in unsaturated (vadose) zones, ground penetrating radar is a popular hydro-geophysical method because it is non-invasive for soil, has high resolution and the results have a direct link with water content. Soil water content and soil hydraulic properties are two key factors for describing the water dynamics in vadose zones. There has been tremendous progress in soil water content and soil hydraulic properties estimation with ground penetrating radar. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the application of ground penetrating radar for soil water dynamics studies. This paper first summarizes various methods for the determination of soil water content. including traditional methods in the surveys of surface ground penetrating radar, borehole ground penetrating radar, and off-ground ground penetrating radar, as well as relatively new methods, such as full waveform inversion, the average envelope amplitude method, and the frequency shift method. This paper further provides a review for estimating soil hydraulic properties with GPR according to the types of ground penetrating radar data. We hope that this review can provide a reference for the application of ground penetrating radar in soil water dynamics studies in the future.

Abstract Background Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus, GC), as the highest-output fish in China, is economically important. The production of gynogenetic grass carp (GGC) will provide important germplasm resource for producing improved GC. At present, knowledge regarding the heterologous sperm DNA in gynogenetic offspring is little. Thus, revealing paternal DNA in GGC at the molecular level would be highly significant for fish genetic breeding. Result In this study, ultraviolet-treated sperm of koi carp (Cyprinus carpio haematopterus, KOC, 2n = 100), was used to activate the eggs of GC (2n = 48). Afterwards, cold shock (0–4 °C) was administered for 12 min to double the chromosomes, resulting in GGC. No significant difference (p > 0.05) was found between GGC and GC in appearance, erythrocytes size and chromosome numbers. However, at the molecular level, a specific microsatellite DNA fragment (MFW1-gynogenetic grass carp, MFW1-G) derived from the paternal parent KOC was found to be transmitted into GGC. Conclusions For the first time, this study provided an evidence at the molecular level that the DNA fragment derived from the paternal parent occurred in GGC. This finding is of great significance for fish genetic breeding.

Distant hybridization leads to obvious changes in genotypes and phenotypes, giving rise to species with novel capabilities. However, the fusion of distinct genomes also polymerizes the DNA or gene variations that occur during the course of evolution. Knowledge of the early stages of post-hybridization evolution is particularly important. Here, we investigated the full-length (FL) transcriptomes and the sequences resulting from the genome resequencing of the red crucian carp-like homodiploid fish (RCC-L) and goldfish-like homodiploid fish (GF-L) derived from the interspecific hybridization of koi carp (KOC) and blunt snout bream (BSB) to provide molecular evidence for the hybrid origin of the goldfish (GF). We compared the orthologous genes in the transcriptomes of RCC-L and GF-L with those of KOC and BSB. We also mapped the orthologous genes to the common carp (CC) and BSB genomes and classified them into eight gene patterns in three categories (chimaera, mutant, and biparental origin genes). The results showed that 48.20% and 46.50% of the genes were chimaera and that 3.70% and 8.30% of the genes were mutations of orthologous genes in RCC-L and GF-L, respectively. In RCC-L and GF-L, 63.70% and 68.20% of the genetic materials were from KOC, and 12.30% and 11.90% of the genetic materials were from BSB. The sequences from the genome resequencing of RCC-L and GF-L were mapped to the genome sequences of CC and BSB, revealing that the similarities of both RCC-L and GF-L to the CC genome (92.52%, 90.18%) were obviously higher than to the BSB genome (50.33%, 49.18%), supporting the suggestion that the genomes of both RCC-L and GF-L were mainly inherited from KOC but had some DNA fragments from BSB. Overall, our results provide molecular biological evidence for the hybrid origin of red crucian carp (RCC) and GF.

Two-dimensional distributions of microstructural characteristics of austenite (γ) around the Lüders band in medium-Mn transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steel were revealed by in situ high-energy X-ray diffraction. Lüders band propagation leads to significant changes in the volume fraction and lattice strains of austenite. The evolution of the lattice strain of γ-311 accords well with the true yield behavior model and is used to estimate the angle of the Lüders band front with respect to the tensile axis. The modified Williamson-Hall analysis shows that the dislocation density in austenite increased from 7 × 1014 m−2 to 1.5 × 1015 m−2 after Lüders band propagation.

Polyploidization can significantly alter the size of animal gametes. Autotetraploid fish (RRRR, 4nRR = 200) (4nRR) possessing four sets of chromosomes were derived from whole-genome duplication in red crucian carp (RR, 2n = 100) (RCC). The diploid eggs of the 4nRR fish were significantly larger than the eggs of RCC. To explore the differences between the ovaries of these two ploidies of fishes at the molecular level, we compared the ovary transcriptome profiles of 4nRR fish and RCC and identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs). A total of 19,015 unigenes were differentially expressed between 4nRR fish and RCC, including 12,591 upregulated and 6,424 downregulated unigenes in 4nRR fish. Functional analyses revealed that eight genes (CDKL1, AHCY, ARHGEF3, TGFβ, WNT11, CYP27A, GDF7, and CKB) were involved in the regulation of cell proliferation, cell division, gene transcription, ovary development and energy metabolism, suggesting that these eight genes were related to egg size in 4nRR fish and RCC. We validated the expression levels of these eight DEGs in 4nRR fish and RCC using quantitative PCR. The study results provided insights into the regulatory mechanisms underlying the differences in crucian carp egg sizes.

Goldfish (Carassius auratus var., GF; 2n = 100) is the most popular ornamental fish in the world. It is assumed that GF evolved from red crucian carp (C. auratus red var., RCC; 2n = 100). However, this hypothesis lacks direct evidence. Furthermore, our knowledge of the role of hybridization in the formation of new species is sparse. In this study, goldfish-like fish with twin tails (GF-L; 2n = 100) was produced by self-mating red crucian carp-like fish (RCC-L; 2n = 100) derived from the distant crossing of koi carp (Cyprinus carpio haematopterus, KOC; 2n = 100; ♀) with blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala, BSB; 2n = 48; ♂). The phenotypes and genotypes of GF-L and RCC-L were very similar to those of GF and RCC, respectively. Microsatellite DNA and 5S rDNA analyses revealed that GF-L and RCC-L were closely related to GF and RCC, respectively. The presence of a twin tail of GF-L was related to a base mutation in chordinA from G in RCC-L to T in GF-L, indicating that the lineage of RCC-L and GF-L can be used to study gene variation and function. The sequences of 5S rDNA in GF-L and RCC-L were mapped to the genomes of CC and BSB, which revealed that the average similarities of both GF-L and RCC-L to CC were obviously higher than those to BSB, supporting that the genomes of both RCC-L and GF-L were mainly inherited from KOC. GF-L and RCC-L were homodiploids that were mainly derived from the genome of KOC with some DNA fragments from BSB. The reproductive traits of GF-L and RCC-L were quite different from those of their parents, but were the same as those of GF and RCC. RCC-L easily diversified into GF-L, suggesting that RCC and GF evolved within the same period in their evolutionary pathway. This study provided direct evidence of the KOC–RCC–GF evolutionary pathway that was triggered by distant hybridization, which had important significance in evolutionary biology and genetic breeding.

The subsurface target classification of ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a popular topic in the field of geophysics. Among the existing classification methods, geometrical features and polarimetric attributes of targets are primarily used. As polarimetric attributes contain more information of targets, polarimetric decomposition methods, such as H-Alpha decomposition, have been developed for target classification of GPR in recent years. However, the classification template used in H-Alpha classification is preset depending on the experience of synthetic aperture radar (SAR); therefore, it may not be suitable for GPR. Moreover, many existing classification methods require excessive human operation, particularly when outliers exist in the sample (the data set containing the features of targets); therefore, they are not efficient or intelligent. We herein propose a new machine learning method based on sample centers, i.e., particle center supported plane (PCSP). The sample center is defined as the point with the smallest sum of distances from all points in the same sample, which is considered as a better representation of the sample without significant effect of the outliers. In this proposed method, particle swarm optimization (PSO) is performed to obtain the sample centers; the new criterion for subsurface target classification is achieved. We applied this algorithm to full polarimetric GPR data measured in the laboratory and outdoors. The results indicate that, comparing with support vector machine (SVM) and classical H-Alpha classification, this new method is more efficient and the accuracy is relatively high.
