Graded polycrystalline copper materials have been expected in the field of scientific research and engineering in recent years because the core of the material has enough toughness and a sufficient surface strength. However, the plastic deformation mechanism, gradient grain generation mechanism and material strengthening principle of polycrystalline copper are still not well understood. Therefore, it is urgent to further analyze the plastic deformation of polycrystalline copper. In this study, the micron scale plastic deformation behavior of polycrystalline copper is simulated based on the crystal plasticity finite element method. The simulation analysis is carried out from the aspects of grain size, grain shape, crystal orientation type and quantity, loading mode and so on. The effects of the above parameters on the Mises stress nephogram and stress-strain curve of polycrystalline copper were analyzed. At the end of the article, the EBSD orientation distribution information of graded polycrystalline copper grains obtained in the cutting process is analyzed comprehensively and the formation mechanism of graded polycrystalline copper is explained by combining the simulation results.

This paper aims to conduct tool wear experiments on cutting SiCp/Al composite materials, and methodically reveal the wear evolution of PCD tools in some detail. Based on the experiments, five-tool wear schemes are rationally developed, including free from wear, crater wear, flank wear, combined crater and flank wear, and edge blunting. The accurate equivalent homogeneous material (EHM) turning simulation model of SiCp/Al composite material is constructed and verified using AdvantEdge software. Subsequently, comprehensive studies have been conducted to analyze the effect of various tool wear patterns on the SiCp/Al cutting process. The results indicate that the crater wear of the tool is positively correlated with the radius of curvature of the chip. Additionally, the flank wear of the tool demonstrates a negative correlation with both the thickness and length of the chips. The actual cutting temperature is 11.3% lower compared to the simulated data, whereas the actual cutting forces in the X and Y directions are 16.1% and 13.7% higher, respectively. The flank wear degree of the tool and the edge blunting both remarkably influence the cutting force in the Y direction and the surface residual stress after machining. As the degree of wear increases, the cutting force in the Y direction and the surface residual stress rise, and the penetration layer of the residual stress becomes deeper, which is attributed to the significantly enhanced ploughing effect of the tool. This study provides a valuable reference for predicting the wear status of cutting tools, particularly in machining difficult-to-machine materials.

Coal mine excavation faces some new opportunities and challenges under the rapid development of intelligent coal mines. In order to promote intelligent tunneling rapidly and healthily, a comprehensive review about the 20 years development of rapid coal mine tunning in China was conducted, with a view to clarify the development context and trends of tunneling technology, key process technologies and equipment, and integrated equipment in tunneling system. In terms of tunneling technology, the double-roadway excavation has opened up a new way for excavation and anchor in adjacent roadways at the same time. The excavation and anchor synchronization process, and the time-space multi-dimensional synchronous rapid tunneling process break the tradition which contains cutting first, then supporting, and in-time fully supporting, and thus establishes a new excavation process based on cutting and supporting at the same time, the dynamic matching of head face necessary support and permanent support in multi-dimensional space. In terms of key core technologies, the cutting head has gone through three styles: longitudinal axis style, horizontal axis style with full width and full-face style. On the basis of continuous breakthroughs in the high-power density reducer and design concept of whole machine, a series of high-efficiency cutting systems with longitudinal cutting power up to 315 kW and full-width transverse cutting power up to 560 kW has been successfully developed. Supporting operation is developed from the traditional single anchor drilling rig to machine-arm mounted, machine mounted anchor drilling rig, anchor drilling rig with one-key operation, and anchor drilling rig cluster, etc. The number of drilling rigs and operation safety in limited space have been greatly improved, and the operation process has been greatly simplified. Intelligent technologies such as anchor hole identification and automatic planning of anchor path have entered the industrial test stage. The invention of the flexible transport system solves the efficient transfer problem of coal in short distances in tunnel. In terms of integrated equipment configuration, four types of fast excavation modes led by continuous mining machine, bolter miner, roadheader and TBM have been formed. Many different operation lines have been formed under the four rapid excavation modes, that form a full coverage of rapid excavation under various geological conditions. At the system level, intelligent functions such as remote control, centralized control, video monitoring, locking linkage, and personnel approach warning have been realized. Based on the development process of rapid tunneling, the development directions of intelligent tunneling are finally proposed, which contains the theory improvement of multi-dimensional synchronous rapid tunneling in time and space, the data collection for transparent geology based on intelligent excavation, the research of auxiliary operation technology and equipment of tunneling roadway, and the research and development of equipment intelligent technology.

The regulation of infrared (IR) thermal radiation has received widespread attention; the proposals have been made for various devices that use electrochromic materials. However, the visible appearance of the mentioned devices also changes when the IR states are altered. Herein, the memristive mechanism is utilized to regulate IR emissivity and design a novel transparent memristor‐type modulator featuring an Indium tin oxide (ITO)/HfO2/ITO structure. The modulator exhibits a dynamic emissivity variation of 0.38 in the IR region of 2.5–25 μm, without compromising transparency in the visible region under the application of an electric voltage. The migration of oxygen vacancies results in the modification of interface barriers and the formation of oxygen vacancy‐enriched regions, thereby enabling the modulator to exhibit resistive switching behavior and regulate IR emissivity. An array of modulators is also assembled, demonstrating the ability to independently display visible and IR information. In this work, new possibilities are presented for various applications such as multispectral displays, energy‐efficient thermoregulation, encrypted information displays, and camouflage.

Multi cycle injection and production of underground gas storage (UGS) promote continuous changes in reservoir characteristics, to clarify the impact of different injection and production characteristics on the reservoir, taking carbonate rock fracture-pore type gas storage reservoirs as the research object, established a set of experimental methods based on production characteristics, quantitative analysis of reservoir damage caused by particle migration caused by increasing, decreasing, fluctuating, and reverse changes in production pressure difference. And the following research results are obtained. First, established experimental methods based on production characteristics, the production method includes increasing, decreasing, fluctuating, and reverse changes, realized experimental evaluation of simulating actual production full features. Second, there is a critical pressure difference in the migration of reservoir particles, the fluctuation of production pressure difference induce further migration of particles, resulting in natural unblocking or new blockage. Third, the change in the direction of production pressure difference can cause large particle sizes break into small particle sizes and migrate out of the pore throat, thus the permeability of the reservoir can be improved to a certain extent. It is concluded that controlling a certain production pressure difference during the injection and production process of UGS, not only meets production needs, but also alleviate the damage of injection production to reservoir permeability to a certain extent.

The CONSTANS-like (COL) gene plays important roles in plant growth, development, and abiotic stress. A total of 15 COL genes are unevenly distributed on eight chromosomes in the potato genome. The amino acid length of the family members was 347–453 aa, the molecular weight was 38.65–49.92 kD, and the isoelectric point was 5.13–6.09. The StCOL family can be divided into three subfamilies by evolutionary tree analysis, with conserved motifs and similar gene structure positions in each subfamily. The analysis of promoter cis-acting elements showed 17 cis-acting elements related to plant hormones, stress, and light response. Collinearity analysis of COL genes of tomato, potato, and Arabidopsis showed that 13 StCOL genes in the different species may have a common ancestor. A total of 10 conserved motifs and six kinds of post-translational modifications in the 15 StCOL proteins were identified. The 15 StCOL genes exhibit a genomic structure consisting of exons and introns, typically ranging from two to four in number. The results showed that 10 genes displayed significant expression across all potato tissues, while the remaining five genes were down-expressed in potato transcriptome data. The quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis exhibited differential expression of 8 StCOL genes in the potato leaves and tubers at different growth stages, as well as 7 StCOL genes under 2°C treatment conditions. These results suggested that the StCOL gene family may play an important role in regulating potato tuberization and responding to cold stress.

The genus Samsoniella was erected based on orange cylindrical to clavate stromata, superficial perithecia and conidiophores with Isaria-like phialides and to segregate them from the Akanthomyces group. In this study, based on morphological features and multigene (SSU, LSU, TEF, RPB1 and RPB2) phylogenetic analysis six Samsoniella species parasitizing spiders were collected in China. Three of them belong to known species S. alpina, S. erucae and S. hepiali. Three new species S. anhuiensis sp. nov., S. aranea sp. nov. and S. fusiformispora sp. nov. are illustrated and described. They are clearly distinct from other species in Samsoniella occurring in independent subclades. Furthermore, among the four insect-pathogenic fungi specimens collected from similar sites, three of them were identified as the new species described below. Our study significantly broadens the host range of Samsoniella from Insecta to Arachnida, marking a noteworthy expansion in understanding the ecological associations of these fungi. Additionally, the identification of both mononematous and synnematous conidiophores in our study not only expands the knowledge of Samsoniella species but also provides a basis for future research by comparing the ecological significance between these conidiophore types. In conclusion, our study enhances the understanding of Samsoniella diversity, presenting a refined phylogenetic framework and shedding light on the ecological roles of these fungi in spider parasitism.

Abstract Objective Our present study utilized case–control research to explore the relationship between specific circRNAs and pediatric obesity through a literature review and bioinformatics and to predict their possible biological functions, providing ideas for epigenetic mechanism studies of pediatric obesity. Methods CircRNAs related to pediatric obesity were preliminarily screened by a literature review and qRT–PCR. CircRNA expression in children with obesity (n = 75) and control individuals (n = 75) was confirmed with qRT–PCR in a case–control study. This was followed by bioinformatics analyses, such as GO analysis, KEGG pathway analysis, and ceRNA network construction. Multivariate logistic regression was utilized to analyze the effects of circRNAs on obesity. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was also drawn to explore the clinical application value of circRNAs in pediatric obesity. Results Has_circ_0046367 and hsa_circ_0000284 were separately validated to be statistically downregulated and upregulated, respectively, in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of children with obesity and revealed as independent indicators of increased CHD risk [hsa_circ_0046367 (OR = 0.681, 95% CI: 0.480 ~ 0.967) and hsa_circ_0000284 (OR = 1.218, 95% CI: 1.041 ~ 1.424)]. The area under the ROC curve in the combined analysis of hsa_circ_0046367 and hsa_circ_0000284 was 0.706 (95% CI: 0.623 ~ 0.789). Enrichment analyses revealed that these circRNAs were actively involved in neural plasticity mechanisms, cell secretion and signal regulation. Conclusion The present research revealed that low expression of hsa_circ_0046367 and high expression of hsa_circ_0000284 are risk factors for pediatric obesity and that neural plasticity mechanisms are closely related to obesity.

Abstract Immune cells can protect against tumor progression by killing cancer cells, while aberrant expression of the immune checkpoint protein PD‐L1 (programmed death ligand 1) in cancer cells facilitates tumor immune escape and inhibits anti‐tumor immunotherapy. As a serine/threonine kinase, CK2 (casein kinase 2) regulates tumor progression by multiple pathways, while it is still unclear the effect of CK2 on tumor immune escape. Here it is found that ING4 induced PD‐L1 autophagic degradation and inhibites non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) immune escape by increasing T cell activity. However, clinical analysis suggests that high expression of CK2 correlates with low ING4 protein level in NSCLC. Further analysis shows that CK2 induce ING4‐S150 phosphorylation leading to ING4 ubiquitination and degradation by JFK ubiquitin ligase. In contrast, CK2 gene knockout increases ING4 protein stability and T cell activity, subsequently, inhibites NSCLC immune escape. Furthermore, the combined CK2 inhibitor with PD‐1 antibody effectively enhances antitumor immunotherapy. These findings provide a novel strategy for cancer immunotherapy.

Flexible anisotropic soft-magnetic composite (FASMC) presents superior magnetic properties in one or more specified directions, showing great potential in the application of microwave absorption, soft robots, and other smart sensors/actuators. However, the fabrication of FASMC using additive manufacturing is challenging due to a trade-off between magnetic properties of the composites enhanced by iron particles and printability during printing. Here, we developed a 4D printing scheme using flexible soft-magnetic photosensitive resin consisting of flexible long-chin acrylic resin monomer and soft magnetic iron particles. Multiple complex structures with good spatial resolution of ∼170 μm were fabricated using magnetic field-assisted digital light processing (MF-DLP). Directional magnetic field was applied during printing, enabling the fabrication of FASMC with strong anisotropic magnetic properties. FASMC with high CIP (carbonyl iron powder, CIP) concentration of up to 45 wt.% was fabricated with excellent tensile strength and elongation up to 460%. Strong anisotropic magnetic properties were demonstrated through a series of stimuli-response testing such as large deformation, anti-deflection, controlled motion, variable stiffness metamaterial, and array assembly, under external magnetic field. This study demonstrates the feasibility and potential of MF-DLP technique for fabrication of FASMC, shedding light on the design and fabrication of next-generation sensors and actuators.

Three-dimensional flexible piezoresistive porous sensors are of interest in health diagnosis and wearable devices. In this study, conductive porous sensors with complex triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures were fabricated using the 3D printed sacrificial mold and enhancement of MWCNTs. A new curing routine by the self-resistance electric heating was implemented. The porous sensors were designed with different pore sizes and unit cell types of the TPMS (Diamond (D), Gyroid (G), and I-WP (I)). The impact of pore characteristics and the hybrid fabrication technique on the compressive properties and piezoresistive response of the developed porous sensors was studied. The results indicate that the porous sensors cured by the self-resistance electric heating could render a uniform temperature distribution in the composites and reduce the voids in the walls, exhibiting a higher elastic modulus and a better piezoresistive response. Among these specimens, the specimen with the D-based structure cured by self-resistance electric heating showed the highest responsive strain (61%), with a corresponding resistance response value of 0.97, which increased by 10.26% compared to the specimen heated by the external heat sources. This study provides a new perspective on design and fabrication of porous materials with piezoresistive functionalities, particularly in the realm of flexible and portable piezoresistive sensors.

Abstract Background Organosolv pretreatment is one of the most efficient methods for delignification and boosting biomass saccharification. As compared to typical ethanol organosolv pretreatments, 1,4-butanediol (BDO) organosolv pretreatment is a high-boiling-point solvent pretreatment, which can generate low pressure in the reactor during high temperature cooking that improves the operation safety. Although several studies showed that organosolv pretreatment can lead to effective delignification and enhancement in glucan hydrolysis, there has been no studies on acid- and alkali-catalyzed BDO pretreatment, as well as their comparison on promoting biomass saccharification and lignin utilization. Results It was shown that BDO organosolv pretreatment was more effective in removing lignin from poplar as compared with typical ethanol organosolv pretreatment under the same pretreatment conditions. HCl-BDO pretreatment with 40 mM acid loading led to 82.04% of original lignin removed from biomass, as compared to the lignin removal of 59.66% in HCl-Ethanol pretreatment. Besides, acid-catalyzed BDO pretreatment was more effective in improving the enzymatic digestibility of poplar than alkali-catalyzed BDO pretreatment. As a result, HCl-BDO with acid loading of 40 mM provided a good enzymatic digestibility of cellulose (91.16%) and the maximum sugar yield of 79.41% from original woody biomass. The linear correlations between physicochemical structure (e.g., fiber swelling, cellulose crystallinity, crystallite size, surface lignin coverage and cellulose accessibility) changes of BDO pretreated poplar and enzymatic hydrolysis were plotted to figure out the main factors that influenced biomass saccharification. Moreover, acid-catalyzed BDO pretreatment mainly brought about the phenolic hydroxyl (PhOH) groups formation in lignin structure, while alkali-catalyzed BDO pretreatment mostly led to the lower molecular weight of lignin. Conclusions Results indicated that the acid-catalyzed BDO organosolv pretreatment could significantly improve enzymatic digestibility of the highly recalcitrant woody biomass. The great enzymatic hydrolysis of glucan resulted from increased cellulose accessibility, which mostly associated with the higher degree of delignification and hemicellulose solubilization, as well as the more increase in fiber swelling. Besides, lignin was recovered from the organic solvent, which could be used as natural antioxidants. The formation of phenolic hydroxyl groups in lignin structure and the lower molecular weight of lignin contributed to its greater radical scavenging capacity.

This study delves into the intricate dynamics of laser-induced damage in fused silica using a time-resolved pump-probe (TRPP) shadowgraph. Three typical ultra-fast processes, laser-induced plasma evolution, shockwave propagation and material fracture splashing, were quantitatively investigated. The results indicate that the diameter of plasma is proportional to the pulse laser energy and increases linearly during the pulse laser duration with an expansion rate of approximately 6 km/s. The maximum shockwave velocity on the air side is 9 km/s, occurring at the end of the pulse duration, and then rapidly decreases due to air resistance, reaching approximately 1 km/s around a 300 ns delay. After hundreds of nanoseconds, there is a distinct particle splashing phenomenon, with the splashing particle speed distribution ranging from 0.15 km/s to 2.0 km/s. The particle sizes of the splashing particles range from 4 μm to 15 μm. Additionally, the smaller the delay, the faster the speed of the splashing particles. Overall, TRPP technology provides crucial insights into the temporal evolution of laser-induced damage in fused silica, contributing to a comprehensive understanding essential for optimizing the performance and safety of laser systems.

SiCp/Al composite materials are widely used in various industries such as the aerospace and the electronics industries, primarily due to their excellent material properties. However, their machinability is significantly weakened due to their unique characteristics. Consequently, efficient and precise machining technology for SiCp/Al composite materials has become a crucial research area. By conducting a comprehensive analysis of the relevant research literature from both domestic and international sources, this study examines the processing mechanism, as well as the turning, milling, drilling, grinding, special machining, and hybrid machining characteristics, of SiCp/Al composite materials. Moreover, it summarizes the latest research progress in composite material processing while identifying the existing problems and shortcomings in this area. The aim of this review is to enhance the machinability of SiCp/Al composite materials and promote high-quality and efficient processing methods.

IntroductionXylem development plays a crucial role in wood formation in woody plants. In recent years, there has been growing attention towards the impact of brassinosteroids (BRs) on this xylem development. In the present study, we evaluated the dynamic variation of xylem development in Fraxinus mandshurica (female parent, M8) and a novel interspecific hybrid F. mandshurica × Fraxinus sogdiana (1601) from May to August 2020.MethodsWe obtained RNA-Seq transcriptomes of three tissue types (xylem, phloem, and leaf) to identify the differences in xylem-differentially expressed genes (X-DEGs) and xylem-specifically expressed genes (X-SEGs) in M8 and 1601 variants. We then further evaluated these genes via weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) alongside overexpressing FmCPD, a BR biosynthesis enzyme gene, in transient transgenic F. mandshurica.ResultsOur results indicated that the xylem development cycle of 1601 was extended by 2 weeks compared to that of M8. In addition, during the later wood development stages (secondary wall thickening) of 1601, an increased cellulose content (14%) and a reduced lignin content (11%) was observed. Furthermore, vessel length and width increased by 67% and 37%, respectively, in 1601 compared with those of M8. A total of 4589 X-DEGs were identified, including enzymes related to phenylpropane metabolism, galactose metabolism, BR synthesis, and signal transduction pathways. WGCNA identified hub X-SEGs involved in cellulose synthesis and BR signaling in the 1601 wood formation–related module (CESA8, COR1, C3H14, and C3H15); in contrast, genes involved in phenylpropane metabolism were significantly enriched in the M8 wood formation–related module (CCoAOMT and CCR). Moreover, overexpression of FmCPD in transient transgenic F. mandshurica affected the expression of genes associated with lignin and cellulose biosynthesis signal transduction. Finally, BR content was determined to be approximately 20% lower in the M8 xylem than in the 1601 xylem, and the exogenous application of BRs (24-epi brassinolide) significantly increased the number of xylem cell layers and altered the composition of the secondary cell walls in F. mandshurica.DiscussionOur findings suggest that BR biosynthesis and signaling play a critical role in the differing wood development and properties observed between M8 and 1601 F. mandshurica.

Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) based lattices have drawn great attention in recent years due to their lightweight, design flexibility and compatibility with 3D printing. However, more effort should be made in the functionality enhancement of engineered sensors, especially with field-assisted 3D printing methods. In this study, magnetic field-assisted photopolymerisation (MF-VP) 3D printing technique was employed to fabricate magnetic Schwarz primitive TPMS (P-TPMS) lattice. Based on the fabricated magnetic P-TPMS lattices, a self-powered sensor was designed to achieve the velocity-to-electrical signal conversion process without the need for external power supply. MF-VP 3D printing technique significantly improved the mechanical compressive performance of the magnetic P-TPMS lattice in the carbonyl iron powder alignment direction, magnetic properties and sensing capabilities. The magnetic P-TPMS lattice self-powered sensor exhibited outstanding stability and durability, maintaining highly stable relative output voltage signals after 10,000 compression cycles. The developed sensor successfully detected toy car impact processes and foot movement states (stop/slow/fast), highlighting the practical application potential of the self-powered sensor.

Abstract Ferroptosis is triggered by intracellular iron leading to accumulation of lipid peroxidation consequent promotion of cell death. Cancer cell exhibits ability to evade ferroptosis by activation of antioxidant signaling pathways such as SLC7A11/GPX4 axis. In addition to transcriptional regulation on ferroptosis by NRF2, SREBP1, YAP, and p53, ferroptosis is modulated by ubiquitination or autophagic degradation. Moreover, zinc or Ca2+ could modulate ferroptosis by inducing lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis. Induction of ferroptosis enhances immune cell activity such as T cells or macrophages, which is associated with the release of DAMPs (damage-associated molecular patterns) and IFNγ. Therefore, combined immune checkpoint inhibitors with ferroptosis inducers effectively enhance antitumor immunotherapy, whereas induction of ferroptosis could impair T cell activity or survival, suggesting that rational combined therapy for cancer is essential. In this review, we discussed the regulatory role of ferroptosis on tumor progression and immunotherapy.

Gibellula penicillioides sp. nov. and G. longispora sp. nov., two new species parasitising spiders collected in China, are illustrated and described, based on morphological features and multiloci phylogenetic analysis. The G. penicillioides sp. nov. group is sister to the G. scorpioides group, but form long penicilloid conidiophore producing enlarged fusiform conidia ((7–) 7.5–9 (–10) × 2.5–3.5 μm). G. longispora sp. nov. is sister to G. pigmentosinum, but has slender long conidia (5–7 × 1–2 μm); teleomorph and Granulomanus-synanamorphic conidiogenous cells are absent in these two species. Type specimens of G. penicillioides sp. nov. and G. longispora sp. nov. were deposited in the Anhui Agricultural University (RCEF). In addition, a key to all known species of Gibellula is illustrated.

Extruded bioprinting is widely used for the biomanufacturing of personalized, complex tissue structures, which requires biomaterial inks with a certain viscosity to enable printing. However, there is still a lack of discussion on the controllable preparation and printability of biomaterial inks with different viscosities. In this paper, biomaterial inks composed of gelatin, sodium alginate, and methylcellulose were utablesed to investigate the feasibility of adjustment of rheological properties, thereby analyzing the effects of different rheological properties on the printing process. Based on the response surface methodology, the relationship between the material components and the rheological properties of biomaterial inks was discussed, followed by the prediction of the rheological properties of biomaterial inks. The prediction accuracies of the power-law index and consistency coefficient could reach 96% and 79%, respectively. The material group can be used to prepare biomaterial inks with different viscosity properties in a wide range. Latin hypercube sampling and computational fluid dynamics were used to analyze the effects of different rheological properties and extrusion pressure on the flow rate at the nozzle. The relationship between the rheological properties of the biomaterial ink and the flow rate was established, and the simulation results showed that the changes in the rheological properties of the biomaterial ink in the high-viscosity region resulted in slight fluctuations in the flow rate, implying that the printing process for high-viscosity biomaterial inks may have better versatility. In addition, based on the characteristics of biomaterial inks, the printing process was optimized from the planning of the print pattern to improve the location accuracy of the starting point, and the length accuracy of filaments can reach 99%. The effect of the overlap between the fill pattern and outer frame on the print quality was investigated to improve the surface quality of complex structures. Furthermore, low- and high-viscosity biomaterial inks were tested, and various printing protocols were discussed for improving printing efficiency or maintaining cell activity. This study provides feasible printing concepts for a wider range of biomaterials to meet the biological requirements of cell culture and tissue engineering.

Objective To evaluate the residual risk of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in blood screening among voluntary blood donors in Zhengzhou. Methods The ELISA and NAT screening results of 497 171 voluntary blood donors in Zhengzhou from January 2019 to December 2020 were collected through the information management system of our blood center.The residual risk of HCV was assessed using the Prevalence-Window Period Residual Risk Model. Results The residual risk among repeated and first-time blood donors was 1∶132 280 (95% CI: 1∶95 520~1∶188 820) and 1∶44 090 (95% CI: 1∶31 840~1∶62 940), respectively. Abstract Permanent-magnet small ball-end magnetorheological polishing method can be used to polish the small part with complex structure. However, the material removal rate of this method is low, which is difficult to improve the output and reduce the cost. In this research, the effect of magnetorheological fluid temperature on the material removal rate is theoretically analyzed by measuring the effect of temperature on the flow properties of magnetorheological fluid, establishing the hydrodynamic model of polishing zone and solving the material removal parameters. It is found that with the increase of the magnetorheological fluid temperature, the polishing relative velocity increases accordingly, which can promote the improvement of material removal rate. But the shear stress decreases accordingly, which inhibits the improvement of material removal rate. The verification experiment results show that the promoting effect can exceeds the inhibitory effect, so that the material removal rate increases with the increase of magnetorheological fluid temperature. When the magnetorheological fluid temperature increases to 60 °C, the material removal rate is improved by 108.4% and the polished surface roughness Sa can reach 14.9 nm. Therefore, increasing the magnetorheological fluid temperature can significantly improve the efficiency of permanent-magnet small ball-end magnetorheological polishing and obtain high quality polished surface.

BackgroundMultimorbidity has become an important public health problem in China, especially among middle-aged and elderly women. Few studies have been reported on the association between multimorbidity and female fertility, which is an important stage in the life course. This study aimed to explore the association between multimorbidity and fertility history among middle-aged and elderly women in China.MethodsData from 10,182 middle-aged and elderly female participants in the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2018 were used in this study. Multimorbidity was defined as the presence of at least two or more chronic conditions. Logistic regression analysis, negative binomial regression analysis, and restrictive cubic splines (RCSs) were used to analyze the relationship between female fertility history and multimorbidity or the number of chronic conditions. Multivariable linear regression was used to analyze the relationship between female fertility history and multimorbidity pattern factor scores.ResultsThe results of this study showed that high parity and early childbearing were significantly associated with an increased risk of multimorbidity and an increased number of chronic conditions among middle-aged and elderly women in China. Late childbearing was significantly associated with reduced risk of multimorbidity and lessened diseases. Parity and age of first childbirth were significantly correlated with the odds of multimorbidity. The association between fertility history and multimorbidity was found to be influenced by age and urban–rural dual structure. Women with high parity tend to have higher factor scores of cardiac-metabolic, visceral-arthritic, and respiratory-psychiatric patterns. Women with early childbearing tended to have higher factor scores of the visceral-arthritic pattern and those with late childbearing tended to have lower factor scores of the cardiac-metabolic pattern.ConclusionFertility history has a significant effect on multimorbidity in the middle and later lives of Chinese women. This study is of great importance for reducing the prevalence of multimorbidity among Chinese women through their life course and promoting health during their middle and later lives.

As the core device of the hemispherical resonator gyroscope (HRG), the processing accuracy and the surface quality of hemispherical resonator directly affect the working accuracy and the service life of HRG. To solve the problem of hemispherical resonator processing and improve the performance of HRG, the interference in the processing of hemispherical resonator is analyzed theoretically according to the structural characteristics of the hemispherical resonator. Then, the grinding trajectory is planned by using the characteristics of the grinding area distribution of the ball-end grinding wheel, and the optimal turning angle of the ball-end grinding wheel during different grinding processing sections of the hemispherical resonator is determined. Finally, grinding experiments of hemispherical resonator are conducted on the developed hemispherical resonator ultra-precision grinding machine tool. The surface roughness (Ra value) of hemispherical resonator is improved from 0.615 8 μm to 0.040 2 μm after ultra-precision grinding processing, while the profile accuracy (PV value) is improved from 4.590 4 μm to 0.339 0 μm. The surface roughness Ra of the hemispherical resonator is further improved to 0.003 2 μm after magnetorheological polishing. The research shows that the grinding process after trajectory planning can avoid the interference between the grinding wheel rod and the workpiece. High-quality hemispherical resonator component is produced by using the above grinding process.

Objective To explore the factors affecting NAT reactive blood donors re-entry, so as to provide data support for formulation of scientific and reasonable strategy. Methods The basic data and laboratory test results of 174 NAT reactive returning blood donors from January 2019 to August 2021 were collected and statistically analyzed by logistic regression. Results Among 174 HBV DNA reactive blood donors applying for re-entry, 81 (46.6%) were eligible for re-entry. In laser application systems, the optical film is one of the most important parts of the system, as well as its weakest link. Its damage performance determines the output characteristics and safety performance of the laser system. This paper focuses on the fundamental frequency reflection of dielectric films used in large high-powered laser devices. The study of the dielectric film’s initial laser damage performance and laser damage growth performance is carried out through laser damage testing and microscopic morphology testing of the damage. The results show two different damage morphologies: type 1 damage (film discoloration damage) and type 2 damage (cratered damage), and the damage growth behavior between the two is very different, with type 1 damage not growing and type 2 damage growing rapidly under subsequent episodes that trigger their damage fluxes. The difference in the growth behavior is well explained by the micro-zone surface shape of the damage location. The results of this paper help to deepen the understanding of the dielectric membrane element processing process and the damage growth behavior.

The intrinsic heat-affected zone (HAZ) during the microsecond pulsed laser processing significantly affect the surface quality of the fused silica optics. This study employed both three-dimensional numerical simulations and experiments to analyze the heat accumulation effect, morphology evolution mechanism, and the HAZ distribution during CO2 laser processing of fused silica. Simulation results show that with the increases of process parameters such as the laser frequency, the overlap rate, and the pulse width, the residual temperature of the substrate rises gradually. The excessive laser repetition frequency mainly causes the heat accumulation and over-ablation. Analysis of the laser processed surface demonstrates that the superposition of the laser spot energy results in the periodic texture whose spatial internal is equal to the feeding distance of the laser spot. Increasing the track pitch will make the ridges and grooves of the ripple structure discrete, while reducing the laser moving speed within a certain range can improve the surface quality. Besides, the fictive temperature of the substrate tends to stabilize after the third laser pulse in each track. The thickness of the HAZ is close to the material removal depth, but it can be effectively suppressed with a pulse width less than 10 μs. Experiments are conducted to validate the simulation and the results match well with each. This study can provide a theoretical guidance for producing high-quality fused silica optics in high-power laser device applications.

The micro-defects on KH2PO4 (KDP) optic surfaces are mainly repaired by the micro-milling technique, while it is very easy to introduce brittle cracks on repaired surfaces, as KDP is soft and brittle. To estimate machined surface morphologies, the conventional method is surface roughness, but it fails to distinguish ductile-regime machining from brittle-regime machining directly. To achieve this objective, it is of great significance to explore new evaluation methods to further characterize machined surface morphologies. In this study, the fractal dimension (FD) was introduced to characterize the surface morphologies of soft-brittle KDP crystals machined by micro bell-end milling. The 3D and 2D fractal dimensions of the machined surfaces and their typical cross-sectional contours have been calculated, respectively, based on Box-counting methods, and were further discussed comprehensively by combining the analysis of surface quality and textures. The 3D FD is identified to have a negative correlation with surface roughness (Sa and Sq), meaning the worse the surface quality the smaller the FD. The circumferential 2D FD could quantitively characterize the anisotropy of micro-milled surfaces, which could not be analyzed by surface roughness. Normally, there is obvious symmetry of 2D FD and anisotropy on the micro ball-end milled surfaces generated by ductile-regime machining. However, once the 2D FD is distributed asymmetrically and the anisotropy becomes weaker, the assessed surface contours would be occupied by brittle cracks and fractures, and corresponding machining processes will be in a brittle regime. This fractal analysis would facilitate the accurate and efficient evaluation of the repaired KDP optics by micro-milling.

In this study, the deposition, powder spreading, and laser fusion processes during the laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process were studied using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The effect of Ni content on the characteristic phase transformation temperatures was also investigated. Shape memory effect and superelasticity of NiTi alloys with Ni content ranged from 48.0% to 51.0% were analyzed. By employing MEAM potentials, the effects of the laser power, spot diameter, and scanning speed on the molten pool size and element evaporation were studied. Simulation results showed that a larger spot diameter renders a higher Ni content in the molten pool, also a larger molten pool. A faster scanning speed leads to a higher Ni content in the molten pool, and a smaller molten pool. The element is difficult to evaporate using small laser power and a large spot diameter. The element in the molten pool expresses a great evaporation effect when the Es is larger than 0.4 eV/ų. According to Ni content within the molten pool during laser fusion, characteristic phase transition temperatures in single crystalline NiTi alloys with variant Ni content were investigated by employing a 2NN-MEAM potential. Characteristic phase transition temperature changes as the Ni content increases from 48.0% to 51.0%. Austenite boundaries and Ni content in the boundary were found to be the keys for controlling the characteristic phase transformation temperature.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) is an important component of the signal transduction pathway, which plays important roles in regulating plant growth and development, and abiotic stress. Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the most popular tuber crops in the world. Genome-wide identification and analysis of the MAPK and MAPKK gene family in potato is not clear. A total of 20 MAPK genes and 8 MAPKK genes were identified in the potato genome. A conservative motif analysis showed that the MAPK protein contained a typical TxY phosphorylation site, and the MAPKK protein contained a conservative characteristic motif S/T-x5-S/T. Phylogenetic analysis showed that potato MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) and MAPKK (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase) were similar to Arabidopsis, including four groups of members A, B, C and D. Gene structure and promoter sequence analysis showed that all 28 gene family members of potato Solanum tuberosum MAPK (StMAPK) and StMAPKK have coding regions (CDS), and family members in the same group have similar intron and exon compositions, and that most cis-acting elements upstream of gene promoters elements have related to stress response. Chromosome location analysis found that MAPKs were unevenly distributed on 11 chromosomes, while MAPKKs were only distributed on chromosomes Chr. 03 and Chr. 12. Collinearity analysis showed that StMAPKK3 and StMAPKK6 have the same common ancestors among potato, pepper, and tomato. qRT-PCR results showed that the relative expressions of StMAPK14 and StMAPKK2 were significantly upregulated under low-temperature stress. These results could provide new insights into the characteristics and evolution of the StMAPK and StMAPKK gene family and facilitate further exploration of the molecular mechanism responsible for potato abiotic stress responses.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is widely used to characterize the pore structure of rock. The nanoscale pores and fractures are well developed in a shale gas reservoir. The closure of nanopores caused by the increase in effective stress during the gas production process could induce stress sensitivity in shale nanopores, which has a great impact on the single-well productivity in the middle–late development stage. In this paper, shale samples from the Longmaxi Formation were taken to investigate the nanopore stress sensitivity via an NMR method. Samples with different degrees of pore and fracture development were selected and NMR experiments under different effective stress conditions were carried out. The results show that: (1) As the effective stress increases, the pore space in shale is continuously compressed, and the cumulative pore volume of shale decreases; (2) There is a more pronounced decrease in the cumulative pore volume of samples containing larger pores with the increase in effective stress. However, there are obvious differences in the pore volume changes in different pore sizes; (3) The transformation of nanopores of different sizes occurs in the process of effective stress loading. When the effective stress is small, the pores with diameters larger than 50 nm are mainly transformed to those with diameters of 10–50 nm. When the effective stress increases to a certain extent, the pores with diameters of 10–50 nm are mainly transformed to those with diameters of 0–10 nm; (4) There are significant differences in the compressibility of nanopores of different sizes. Larger nanopores generally have a higher compression coefficient and a stronger stress sensitivity. In the process of effective stress loading, the compression coefficient of pores with diameters between 10 and 50 nm changes relatively slowly, which can well-maintain the pore shape and quantity. Based on the variation in porosity ratio with effective stress, a new method of dividing shale nanopores is proposed; those with diameters smaller than 10 nm, those with diameters of 10–50 nm, and those with diameters larger than 50 nm.

Hydraulic fracturing of shale gas reservoirs is characterized by large fracturing fluid consumption, long working cycle and low flowback efficiency. Huge amounts of fracturing fluid retained in shale reservoirs for a long time would definitely cause formation damage and reduce the gas production efficiency. In this work, a pressure decay method was conducted in order to measure the amount of fracturing fluid imbibition and sample permeability under the conditions of formation temperature, pressure and adsorbed methane in real time. Experimental results show that (1) the mass of imbibed fracturing fluid per unit mass of shale sample is 0.00021–0.00439 g/g considering the in-situ pressure, temperature and adsorbed methane. (2) The imbibition and flowback behavior of fracturing fluid are affected by the imbibition or flowback pressure difference, pore structure, pore surface properties, mechanical properties of shale and mineral contents. (3) 0.01 mD and 0.001 mD are the critical initial permeability of shales, which could be used to determine the relationship between the formation damage degree and the flowback pressure difference. This work is beneficial for a real experimental evaluation of shale formation damage induced by fracturing fluid.

Background: Residential surrounding greenness may be protective of dyslipidemia are often theorized but remain poorly quantified. In particular, the underlying biological mechanisms of blood lipid changes with green spaces remain unclear. Methods: Our observational epidemiology study included a residentially stable sample of 1035 coronary heart disease patients, and proteomics study included 16 participants. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used to evaluate residential greenness exposures. Proteomics technology was used to identify plasma greenness-related proteome disturbance, and the pathway analysis was employed to evaluate the potential biological mechanisms of greenness decreasing dyslipidemia risk. Result: Higher residential surrounding greenness in the 500-m area was associated with lower risks of dyslipidemia (odds ratio (OR) = 0.871, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.763, 0.994 for per one-quartile NDVI increase). Lymphocytes mediated 18.7% of the association between greenness and dyslipidemia. Greenness related proteins (including PLXDC1, IGFBP2 and LY6D) may regulate the biological functions of lipid metabolism and transport-related proteins (including ADIPOQ and CES1) through a series of biological processes. Conclusion: People in greener surroundings have a lower risk of dyslipidemia, which may be due to their lower inflammation, stronger lipid transporter activity, and normal cholesterol metabolism.

Abstract Shale gas transport is influenced by the changes in effective flow channels during production due to an effective stress sensitivity and a sorption layer effect. In this work, shale samples’ core analyses, methane adsorption experiments, and effective stress sensitivity experiments were conducted at in situ conditions. Then, a mathematical modeling was applied to quantitatively determine the real shale gas flow behavior considering the changes in effective flow channels during production. The results show that (1) the gas transport capability in matrix has an obvious tendency of increase in the mid‐late production period; (2) the decline of permeability of inorganic pores/fractures tends to be gentler during production, especially for the smaller flow channels; (3) surface diffusion is dominant in shale matrix throughout production; (4) the contribution of Knudsen diffusion to total gas flux cannot be neglected in flow channels with hydraulic radius of tens of nanometers in the early production period or of tens and hundreds of nanometers in the mid‐late production period; and (5) viscous flow generally dominates the total gas flux in flow channels with hydraulic radius more than 10 nm in the early production period or more than 100 nm in the mid‐late production period. This work is beneficial for an accurate evaluation of shale gas transport during production.

A novel magnetorheological finishing (MRF) process using a small ball-end permanent-magnet polishing head is proposed, and a four-axes linkage dedicated MRF machine tool is fabricated to achieve the nanofinishing of an irregular ψ-shaped small-bore complex component with concave surfaces of a curvature radius less than 3 mm. The processing method of the complex component is introduced. Magnetostatic simulation during the entire finishing path is carried out to analyze the material removal characteristics. A typical ψ-shaped small-bore complex component is polished on the developed device, and a fine surface quality is obtained with surface roughness Ra of 0.0107 μm and surface accuracy of the finished spherical surfaces of 0.3320 μm (PV). These findings indicate that the proposed MRF process can perform the nanofinishing of a kind of small-bore complex component with small-curvature-radius concave surfaces. When serving in extremely high-power laser conditions, KH2PO4 (KDP) surfaces are susceptible to incur laser damage points (also known as defects). Using micro-ball end milling cutters to repair and remove the pre-existing damage points on the flawed KDP crystal surface is the most effective method to control the growth of laser damage points on KDP crystal surfaces and prolong their service life. However, there are various forms of micro-defects (such as pits, scratches and brittle fractures) around the laser damage points on KDP crystal surfaces which possess remarkable effects on the micro-milling repair process and consequently deteriorate the repair quality. In this work, combined with nano-indentation experiments, elastic–plastic mechanics and fracture mechanics theory, a constitutive model considering the anisotropic property of KDP crystals and a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model (FEM) were established to simulate the cutting force and surface topography involved in the ball-end milling repairing of flawed KDP crystal surfaces. Besides, the micro-milling experiments were conducted to evaluate the change of cutting force and machined surface quality in the presence of micro-defects with various feed rates. The results show that micro-defects would induce the fluctuation of cutting force and a change of the undeformed cutting thickness (UCT) in the process of repairing the damage points on the crystal surface, which would lead to the brittle–ductile transition (BDT) and affect the machined surface quality. The machined surface quality was found to be deteriorated by the pre-existing micro-defects when the UCT was small (the UCT was less than 375 nm). On the contrary, brittle mode cutting in the local area can be transformed into ductile mode cutting, resulting in an improvement of repaired surface quality that is exhibited by the cutting force and microtopography. This work has great theoretical significance and engineering practical value for the promotion and application of micro-milling repairing technology in the practical manufacturing and operation of KDP optics applied to high-power laser systems.

With the development of society and the economy, there is an increasing demand for surface treatment techniques that can efficiently utilize metal materials to obtain good performances in the fields of mechanical engineering and the aerospace industry. The laser metal deposition (LMD) technique for cladding has become a research focus in recent years because of its lower dilution rate, small heat-effect zone and good metallurgical bonding between the coating and substrate. This paper reviews the simulation technology for the melt pool’s grain growth mechanism, temperature and stress distribution that are directly related to defect formation in LMD technology. At the same time, the defect suppression method and the performance improvement method of the cladded layer in LMD technology are introduced. Finally, it is pointed out that the active selection of materials according to the required performance, combined with the controllable processing technology, to form the corresponding microstructure, and finally, to actively realize the expected function, is the future development direction of LMD technology.

Femtosecond (fs) laser processing has received great attention for preparing novel micro-nano structures and functional materials. However, the induction mechanism of the micro-nano structures induced by fs lasers still needs to be explored. In this work, the laser-induced periodic surface structure (LIPSS) of monocrystalline silicon (Si) under fs laser irradiation is investigated. Three different layers named amorphous silicon (a-Si) layer, transition layer, and unaffected Si layer are observed after laser irradiation. The a-Si layer on the surface is generated by the resolidification of melting materials. The unaffected Si layer is not affected by laser irradiation and maintains the initial atomic structure. The transition layer consisting of a-Si and unaffected Si layers was observed under the irradiated subsurface. The phase transition mechanism of Si irradiated by fs laser is “amorphous transition”, with the absence of other crystal structures. A numerical model is established to describe the fs laser-Si interaction to characterize the electronic (lattice) dynamics of the LIPSS formation. The obtained results contribute to the understanding of fs laser processing of Si at the atomic scale as well as broaden the application prospects of fs laser for treating other semiconductor materials.

As a rapid and efficient processing technology, CO2 laser processing has been applied to remove fused silica materials. However, thermal effect caused by CO2 laser would lead to thermal modification layer, thermal deformation and residual stress in processed fused silica optics. To reduce the thermal effect, high power and short pulse CO2 laser is applied to remove the surface material of fused silica. In this work, a model coupling the physical processes of heat transfer and phase transition was established to simulate the complex interaction of CO2 laser with fused silica. Then, the model was applied to investigate the evolutions of temperature distribution and surface morphology involved in the laser ablating and melting processes. The results indicate that with the increase of laser power and decrease of pulse width, positive effect would take place that the radius-depth ratio of ablating area increases and the heat-affected area becomes smaller. For the application of CO2 laser with 0.2 μs pulse width and 800 kW peak power, fused silica material would quickly reach the ablation state. The ablation depth is less than 1 μm, and the thickness of heat-affected area is about 80 nm. It means that the high power and short pulse CO2 laser is equivalent to a hot grinding ball head, which can remove the material rapidly with small heat-affected area on fused silica surface. The simulation results of line scanning processing with CO2 laser were finally compared with the experiment ones, which verified the feasibility of the established model. Micromachining repair of surface defects on KH2PO4 (KDP) optics is an emerging technique in the construction of Inertial Confinement Fusion facilities for obtaining clean nuclear fusion energy. However, this method is yet facing considerable challenges owing to the soft-brittle nature of single-crystal KDP, hence it is necessary to understand its ductile-regime cutting mechanism to generate crack-free surfaces. This paper seeks to investigate the evolution of different cutting mechanism with the change of uncut chip thickness (UCT) in KDP orthogonal cutting processes. A transition of cutting modes from plastic cutting to shear-crack cutting and then fracture cutting with the rise of UCT has been revealed. To explain these cutting phenomena, a novel theoretical model was proposed by calculating the specific energy dissipation for crack/fracture propagations during cutting processes based on fracture mechanics. This analytical model was well validated by the analysis of cutting forces and machined surface quality. Nevertheless, three kinds of surface defects have been observed, i.e. micro pits, micro craters and edge chipping. These surface defects were caused by tearing and spalling of materials with elastic recovery, crack propagation along cleavage planes with ploughing effect, and the peeling away of large-size fracture, respectively. The presented results of great significance for promoting the application of micromachining processes in future engineering repair of KDP optics.

Background: Radix Sophorae flavescentis (Kushen), a Chinese herb, is widely used in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) with damp-heat accumulation syndrome (DHAS) according to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory.Objective: The aim of this study was to illuminate the clinical efficacy and potential mechanisms of Kushen-based TCM formulations in the treatment of UC with DHAS.Materials and Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in the PubMed, EMBASE, Chinese Biomedical Literature database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure database, Chongqing VIP Information database, and Wanfang database for articles published between January 2000 and July 2020 on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that used Kushen-based TCM formulations in the treatment of UC with DHAS. A network pharmacology approach was conducted to detect the potential pathways of Kushen against UC with DHAS.Results: Eight RCTs with a total of 983 subjects were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with the control subjects (5-aminosalicylic acid therapy), those who received Kushen-based TCM formulations for the treatment of UC showed a significantly higher clinical remission rate (RR = 1.20, 95% CI: [1.04, 1.38], p = 0.02) and lower incidence of adverse events (RR = 0.63, 95% CI [0.39, 1.01], p = 0.06). A component-target-pathway network was constructed, indicating five main components (quercetin, luteolin, matrine, formononetin, and phaseolin), three major targets (Interleukin-6, Myc proto-oncogene protein, and G1/S-specific cyclin-D1) and one key potential therapeutic pathway (PI3K-Akt signaling) of Kushen against UC with DHAS.Conclusion: Kushen-based TCM formulations provide good efficacy and possess great potential in the treatment of UC. Large-scale and high-quality clinical trials and experimental verification should be considered for further confirmation of the efficacy of Kushen-based formulations.

Heterotrimeric G-proteins are crucial for fungal growth and differentiation. The α subunits of heterotrimeric G-proteins play an essential role in controlling signal transduction. However, the function of G-protein α subunits in entomopathogenic fungi remains poorly understood. Two group II Gα subunits (MrGPA2 and MrGPA4) were characterized in the entomopathogenic fungus, Metarhizium robertsii. Bioinformatics analysis showed that the relationship between MrGPA2 and MrGPA4 was closer than that of other MrGPAs. Both green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged MrGPA2 and MrGPA4 were localized at the cytoplasm. Furthermore, ∆MrGpa2∆MrGpa4 double mutants showed remarkably reduced vegetative growth compared to the wild-type and single-mutant strains, which was accompanied by the downregulation of several growth-related genes, such as ssk2, pbs2, stuA, hog1, and ac. Only the ∆MrGpa2∆MrGpa4 double mutant was sensitive to Congo red stress. The insect bioassay demonstrated significantly attenuated virulence for the ∆MrGpa2∆MrGpa4 double mutant compared to the wild-type and single-mutant strains. Further analysis indicated that double deletion of MrGpa2 and MrGpa4 had no effect on appressorium formation but suppressed the expression levels of several virulence-related genes in the insect hemocoel. These findings demonstrate that MrGpa2 and MrGpa4 exhibit functional redundancy and contribute to the vegetative growth, stress tolerance, and pest control potential in M. robertsii.

Localized CO2 laser repairing of surface damage on fused silica optics has been successfully applied in high-power laser system in the field of controllable nuclear fusion. In order to accurately predict the surface topography evolution and to reveal the intrinsic physical mechanism during the process of laser mitigation, experiments of localized CO2 laser mitigation were firstly carried out to analyze the features of mitigated craters under different laser powers. Then a multi-physics coupled mathematical model was developed based on the fluid control equation, heat and mass transfer equation and material phase transition kinetics to investigate the thermodynamic and kinetic behaviors of laser interaction with silica. The model considered the effects of Marangoni convection, gravity, capillary force and vaporization recoil pressure, as well as the nonlinear variation of physical parameters of silica material with respect to temperature. The results showed that with the increase of laser power, the material ablation and the appearance of raised rim occurred simultaneously. The depth of the mitigated crater increased sharply when the threshold for material ablation was attained, while the lateral dimension increased linearly. The vaporization recoil pressure was found to be the dominant factor for the formation of Gaussian crater with the raised rim feature. The capillary force caused the material at the edge of the molten pool to have a tendency to reflow after laser shutting down, but it was too small to change the surface topography. This work could significantly contribute to the understanding of laser mitigation process, which laid the foundation for the accurate prediction and evaluation of surface quality of CO2 laser repaired fused silica surface.

Manufacturing-induced defects have drawn more and more attentions to improve the laser damage resistance performance of KDP crystal applied in high-power laser systems. Here, the morphology of surface scratches on diamond fly-cut KDP crystal is characterized and their effect on the laser damage resistance is theoretically and experimentally investigated. The results indicate that surface scratches could lower laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) by modulating incident lasers and producing resultant local light intensifications. The induced maximum light intensity enhancement factors (LIEFs) are dependent on scratch shapes and dimensions. The diffraction effects originating from scratch edges are responsible for the strongest light intensification. Even for ultra-precision finished KDP surface with scratches that well satisfy the currently applied scratch/dig specification, the induced LIEFs are quite high, indicating that the actual defect dimension allowance should be amended and specified according to the defect-induced LIEFs. The effect of scratches on laser damage resistance is experimentally verified by the tested LIDT, which is approximately consistent with the simulation one. The morphologies of laser damage sites further confirm the role of scratches in lowering LIDT. This work could offer new perspective and guidance for fully evaluating the performance of ultra-precision manufactured optical materials applied in high-power laser facilities. As a hard and brittle material, KDP crystal is easily damaged by the irradiation of laser in a laser-driven inertial confinement fusion device due to various factors, which will also affect the quality of subsequent incident laser. Thus, the mechanism of laser-induced damage is essentially helpful for increasing the laser-induced damage threshold and the value of optical crystal elements. The intrinsic damage mechanism of crystal materials under laser irradiation of different pulse duration is reviewed in detail. The process from the initiation to finalization of laser-induced damage has been divided into three stages (i.e., energy deposition, damage initiation, and damage forming) to ensure the understanding of laser-induced damage mechanism. It is clear that defects have a great impact on damage under short-pulse laser irradiation. The burst damage accounts for the majority of whole damage morphology, while the melting pit are more likely to appear under high-fluence laser. The three stages of damage are complementary and the multi-physics coupling technology needs to be fully applied to ensure the intuitive prediction of damage thresholds for various initial forms of KDP crystals. The improved laser-induced damage threshold prediction can provide support for improving the resistance of materials to various types of laser-induced damage.

Potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP or KH2PO4) crystal is widely used as terminal frequency converters in inertial confinement fusion (ICF). However, KDP crystal is a typical difficult-to-cut optical crystal with the characteristic of soft-brittle. In this work, the relationship between cutting force and processed surface quality in micro ball end-milling of KDP crystal with various depth of cut and spindle speed is studied by carried out the micro-milling experiments. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm is used to diagnose the recorded cutting force. The periodic change of cutting force and the cutting force after filtering noises can be got through FFT analysis. Through calculating the correlation coefficients between the static component of thrust force and roughness value Ra of machined grooves, as well as the peak-valley (P-V) value of thrust force and dimensional error of machined grooves, the roughness value Ra and dimensional error of machined grooves would be predicted by monitoring the static component and P-V value of the thrust force, respectively. The relatively large spindle speed helps to reduce the roughness value Ra. The spindle speed with moderate value is recommended to reduce the dimensional error of machined groove because the dimensional error of machined groove will increase when the spindle speed is small enough (causing brittle cutting) or large enough (reducing cutting stability).

Rapid growth and ultra-precision machining of large-size KDP (KH2PO4) crystals with high laser damage resistance are tough challenges in the development of large laser systems. It is of high interest and practical significance to have theoretical models for scientists and manufacturers to determine the laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of actually prepared KDP optics. Here, we numerically and experimentally investigate the laser-induced damage on KDP crystals in ultra-short pulse laser regime. On basis of the rate equation for free electron generation, a model dedicated to predicting the LIDT is developed by considering the synergistic effect of photoionization, impact ionization and decay of electrons. Laser damage tests are performed to measure the single-pulse LIDT with several testing protocols. The testing results combined with previously reported experimental data agree well with those calculated by the model. By taking the light intensification into consideration, the model is successfully applied to quantitatively evaluate the effect of surface flaws inevitably introduced in the preparation processes on the laser damage resistance of KDP crystals. This work can not only contribute to further understanding of the laser damage mechanisms of optical materials, but also provide available models for evaluating the laser damage resistance of exquisitely prepared optical components used in high power laser systems.

Prevention of water blocking and optimization of multiscale flow channels will increase gas production of tight reservoirs. Physical properties of samples from representative tight gas reservoirs were measured before and after high temperature treatment. Results show that, with the increase of treatment temperature, mass decreases, acoustic transit time increases, and permeability and porosity increase. Permeability begins to increase dramatically if treatment temperature exceeds the threshold value of thermal fracturing, which is 600~700°C, 500~600°C, 300~500°C, and 300~400°C for shale, mudstone, tight sandstone, and tight carbonate rock, respectively. Comprehensive analyses indicate that the mechanisms of heat treatment on tight porous media include evaporation and dehydration of water, change of mineral structure, generation of microfracture, and network connectivity. Meanwhile, field implementation is reviewed and prospected. Interpretations indicate that, according to the characteristics of multiscale mass transfer in tight gas formation, combining heat treatment with conventional stimulation methods can achieve the best stimulation result.
