International audience; The mud torrent of Chirleşti, located in the Carpathian Curvature, is an unusual body that combines torrent morphology with mudflow dynamics. Came into existence in early 1950s, as a result of a strong deforestation, this mud torrent has instantly threatened the settlements situated at his outlet. In 2010 the debris cone finally reached the main road and the railways that follow the Buzău valley.

Each Romanian geographical region is characterized by some characteristics that can be seen as landmarks and analysed in order to assess their cultural and tourism profile. Oltenia, a historical province that dates back to the Dacian-Roman period and inhabited ever since, has a rich/vast tourism offer, with numerous cultural attractions spanning centuries/from each century. It is necessary to distinguish between the historical heritage items from different time periods ranging from the ancient Dacian, to Roman eras, then the great migrations period, and ending with medieval and modern times. Having such a differentiated structure allows for a classification of each town - county seats from Oltenia province, based on a series of indicators, such as the Index of Cultural-Touristic Use (ICT) and the Index of Cultural-Touristic Relevance (ITR). The results of the study may help better understand the relationship between cultural and tourism attractions within a town and the possibilities for their capitalization, while also arguing for a larger set of criteria in order to analyse the evolution of cultural tourism, offering an alternative to towns with less dynamic economies. The study proposes a strategy for a sustainable cultural tourism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Buzău River crosses the Carpathians between Sita Buzăului and Păltineni, being doubled by the national road route DN 10, which links Muntenia to Transylvania. The Siriu Rockfill Dam was built in the Southern part of the Transcarpathian sector, which also facilitated other anthropic interventions on the topography of the terrain and landscape. The measures for fighting land degradation are differentiated between slopes and river bed, depending on the morphologic particularities along the road. In this context, the main objective of this study is to determine those sectors having applied geomorphology particularities, in order to ensure the optimal and sustainable use of terrains.
