The competence approach combines not only intellectual and skill components, that is, cognitive and operational-technological aspects, but also motivational, ethical, social and behavioral components of the learning process. Among the five main competencies that a graduate of the dental faculty should have, communicative competence occupies an important place. Communicative competence is the successful implementation of communicative activity, based on the acquired means and strategies of language communication, supported by strong knowledge, skills and communication skills. The formation of the communicative competence of a dentist involves the implementation of purposeful, consistent, step-by-step activities for the development of communication skills. The publication reveals the importance of using remote learning technologies in the process of training future doctors in wartime conditions in Ukraine. The place and role of distance learning technologies in the system of higher education is defined. It is noted that with the development of the technical capabilities of teaching methods and technology, the means of the teacher's educational activity are changing. Emphasis is placed on the need for a medical university teacher to master modern information, communication and educational technologies. Although distance learning provides easy access to learning materials, the ability to virtually attend classes from home, safety and the reduction of possible risks in addition to the ease of communication, it can be considered as a temporary method of emergency response to adverse conditions that have developed in the country, this especially applies to higher medical education, as most of the formed clinical competencies of the future doctor are inextricably linked with face-to-face forms of education that require personal presence, primarily practical manipulations and communication skills. The impact of the pandemic and then the martial law in Ukraine on medical education became unprecedented and created unique problems. In connection with this, there was a need to form a new educational system that would be safe, sustainable and equipped for all kinds of unexpected scenarios in the future. Therefore, investments in virtual training are in demand today, as it is destined to become a method of modern medical education. Moreover, it is necessary to create more online platforms that are convenient for students and teachers, and can be used not only in emergency cases, but also in long-term use. However, a middle ground should be found between virtual learning and direct face-to-face classroom learning. Moreover, medical students should be involved in the decision-making process regarding future medical education and play an active role, as they are the ones most affected by the consequences of such decisions., У публікації розкрито значення використання дистанційних технологій навчання у процесі підготовки майбутніх лікарів в умовах воєнного часу в Україні. The Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 dealt a severe blow to the educational and scientific aspirations of the young generation in our country. The destruction of universities, lack of essential equipment and reagents, power shortages, and disrupted communication between students and their academic mentors due to the adoption of distance learning have significantly hindered their pursuit of education and science. This study aims to analyze the motivational factors that drive students to en gage in academic and scientific work during the ongoing wartime. Materials and methods. For this cross- sectional study, we gathered data from 75 respondents who were studying in higher educational institutions of Ukraine as of February 24, 2022 in the period from September to October 2022. Results. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 36% of respondents reported a reduction in available time for educational activities, 18.67% of respondents noted a decrease in the time allocated to scientific work. An analysis of the respondents' involvement in scientific research during their study at higher education institutions revealed that 67% of respondents considered student scientific research to be an integral part of the educational environment. Prior to the war, key motivational factors for young women included seeking social approval from fam ily or friends and pursuing rewards. For young men, it was challenging to pinpoint a singular most significant factor, but social approval from family or friends, personal satisfaction, and interest in research projects were notably prominent. With the onset of the war, among young women, the primary motivating factors that remained pivotal were an interest in science and the recognition of the value of their research outc omes. Among young men, a loss of distinct boundaries between motivational priorities for engaging in scientific work was observed. The extreme conditions of that time affected the system of higher medical education as a whole, and also gave a significant impetus to the promotion and development of various forms and technologies of education. It is clear that new forms, methods and approaches of educational activities must meet, if not all, then most of the challenges that have arisen both for seekers of higher education and for teachers today. Since education in institutions of higher medical education requires students to acquire not only deep theoretical knowledge of medical disciplines, but also, at the same time, certain practical skills, medical education is one of the few that cannot be obtained in absentia. In this regard, there is a need to find ways and means of integrating new learning formats into the educational process, which would be safe, sustainable and equipped for all kinds of unexpected scenarios in the future, as well as thanks to which students of education would be able to master all the necessary competencies. The destruction of universities, lack of essential equipment and reagents, power shortages, and disrupted communication between students and their academic mentors due to the adoption of distance learning have significantly hindered their pursuit of education and science. This study aims to analyze the motivational factors that drive students to en gage in academic and scientific work during the ongoing wartime. Materials and methods. For this cross- sectional study, we gathered data from 75 respondents who were studying in higher educational institutions of Ukraine as of February 24, 2022 in the period from September to October 2022. Results. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 36% of respondents reported a reduction in available time for educational activities, 18.67% of respondents noted a decrease in the time allocated to scientific work. An analysis of the respondents' involvement in scientific research during their study at higher education institutions revealed that 67% of respondents considered student scientific research to be an integral part of the educational environment. Prior to the war, key motivational factors for young women included seeking social approval from fam ily or friends and pursuing rewards. For young men, it was challenging to pinpoint a singular most significant factor, but social approval from family or friends, personal satisfaction, and interest in research projects were notably prominent. With the onset of the war, among young women, the primary motivating factors that remained pivotal were an interest in science and the recognition of the value of their research outc omes. Among young men, a loss of distinct boundaries between motivational priorities for engaging in scientific work was observed. The publication reveals the importance of using remote learning technologies in the process of training future doctors in wartime conditions in Ukraine. The place and role of distance learning technologies in the system of higher education is defined. It is noted that with the development of the technical capabilities of teaching methods and technology, the means of the teacher's educational activity are changing. Emphasis is placed on the need for a medical university teacher to master modern information, communication and educational technologies. Although distance learning provides easy access to learning materials, the ability to virtually attend classes from home, safety and the reduction of possible risks in addition to the ease of communication, it can be considered as a temporary method of emergency response to adverse conditions that have developed in the country, this especially applies to higher medical education, as most of the formed clinical competencies of the future doctor are inextricably linked with face-to-face forms of education that require personal presence, primarily practical manipulations and communication skills. The impact of the pandemic and then the martial law in Ukraine on medical education became unprecedented and created unique problems. In connection with this, there was a need to form a new educational system that would be safe, sustainable and equipped for all kinds of unexpected scenarios in the future. Therefore, investments in virtual training are in demand today, as it is destined to become a method of modern medical education. Moreover, it is necessary to create more online platforms that are convenient for students and teachers, and can be used not only in emergency cases, but also in long-term use. However, a middle ground should be foundbetween virtual learning and direct face-to-face classroom learning.
