This study presents the synthesis of a Cd(II) based hydrophobic three dimensional crystalline network material (CNM), [Cd3(L)2(LH)2(bpe)2], {L = {4,4′-(hexafluroisopropylidine)bis(benzoate)} and 1,2-di(4-pyridyl) ethylene (bpe)}, 1(Cd), by employing the slow-diffusion method. The three-dimensional structure of 1(Cd) was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Subsequently, post-synthetic modification of 1(Cd) with Cu(II) at room temperature led to the formation of isostructural 1(Cu) with partial substitution. This transformation, unattainable through de novo synthesis, was monitored using energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), PXRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, and through visual observation confirming a single crystal to single crystal metal exchange. The modified material, 1(Cu), exhibited red-shifted emission with enhanced thermal stability and a tenfold increase in N2 uptake. Furthermore, the catalytic potential of 1(Cd) in aza-Michael addition reactions of α,β-unsaturated olefins to nucleophilic aromatic/aliphatic amines was demonstrated successfully under ambient conditions. Ortho‐Phthaldehyde (OPA) is one of the isomers of benzenedicarbaldehydes. It exhibits distinctive chemical properties stemming from the closely attached dicarbaldehyde groups. Since its development, it has been widely employed as a potent disinfectant, owing to its inherent antimicrobial properties. OPA has the ability to form a fluorescent product with primary amines, making it useful for detecting and estimating various biogenic amines, peptides, and proteins in bodily fluids. Moreover, the combination of thiol and amine with OPA produces a more sensitive fluorogenic compound, significantly enhancing the sensitivity and specificity of OPA‐based analytical techniques. This review summarizes recent developments in biochemical analysis using OPA. It also discusses key achievements in the development of photoactive polymers. Additionally, it covers the use of OPA as a synthetic precursor to achieve small molecules with unique structures that have become increasingly important in various fields of scientific research from 2004. Developing multicomponent reactions in a cascade manner is a long-standing interest to chemists to access valuable organic materials more economically. Herein, we described a simple, economically viable method for synthesizing 11H-benzo[b]fluoren-11-one, a dual-state organic fluorophore, starting from ortho phthalaldehyde (OPA) in DMSO solvent. Simple and rapid product isolation, high atom economy, short reaction time, and scalability are the attractive features of the method. During the optimization of the reaction condition, we observed that DMSO, DMF, and acetone served one carbon to form the said compound besides their role as solvents. A plausible mechanism has been proposed based on the evidence obtained from LCMS analysis of the incomplete reaction mixture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
