The energy sector is crucial for the country's stable and lasting socioeconomic development and for implementing environmentally friendly technologies. The sustainable development of the energy sector takes place in three pillars: economic, social, and environmental. It means improving economic results while increasing the share of alternative energy sources. The paper aims to assess the impact of socioeconomic cohesion on the sustainable development of the energy sector in France, Germany, and Poland. We created indicators of sustainable development and socioeconomic cohesion. We used correlation analysis to examine the relationships. Additionally, we created a single- and multi-equation model, which we reset using the ordinary least squares method and Seemingly Unrealized Regression. The results of the linear correlation coefficients show a very strong relationship between socio-economic cohesion and the sustainable development of the energy sector in Poland (Pearson's R 0.94), a weaker correlation in Germany (0.811), and the weakest in France (0.59). The results suggest that the relationship is strongest in the country with the lowest economic development and the smallest share of renewable energy, a significant positive impact on the sustainable development of the energy sector. Purpose: The paper's primary goal is to assess the impact of long-term solvency on the logistics sector's sustainable development in Poland from 2008 to 2022. Design/methodology/approach: To verify the research hypothesis, we created the synthetic indicators of sustainable logistics development and developed models using the Classical Least Squares Method (OLS), Vector Autoregression (VAR) and Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR). Findings: The research results show that compliance with the golden financial rule is statistically significant for the sustainable development of the logistics sector. Moreover, it has a direct impact on the economic and social pillars. Research limitations/implications: The selection of indicators for the research sample and the estimation methods limit the analysis. Practical implications: Maintaining an appropriate financing structure for logistics sector companies is crucial, and ensuring compliance with the golden financial rule is important for the sustainable development of companies. Social implications: The research results are important from the point of view of the development of the logistics sector in the social and ecological aspects, and reducing the sector's emissions should lead to improved conditions and quality of life for communities. Purpose - The paper is primarily aimed to assess the impact of selected macroeconomic conditions and the financial situation of decarbonization of the logistics sector in Poland from 2008 to 2020. Research method - To verify the main research hypothesis, the author creates a synthetic indicator of decarbonization, of macroeconomic conditions and of the sector's financial situation, using one of the normalization methods. To estimate the impact of explanatory variables on the dependent variable, the author used the Ordinary Least Square Method (OLS). Results - The research results show a positive trend in the decarbonization indicator of the logistics sector, which is particularly visible at the end of the period under study, i.e. in 2019-2020. EU regulations undoubtedly influence this state of affairs regarding the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide. The estimation results indicate that macroeconomic conditions and the sector's financial situation from the previous period (t-1) statistically significantly impact (p < 0.05) the decarbonization of logistics. It should be noted that the directions of their influence are different. Macroeconomic conditions from the period (t-1) positively impact decarbonization, and the financial situation has a negative impact. Originality / value / implications / recommendations - The paper's novelty is expressed in presenting a model estimating the impact of macroeconomic and financial conditions on the decarbonization of logistics. The decarbonization process was also presented, and the literature in the examined area was reviewed. The study results indicate that economic and financial factors are important for decarbonization. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the presence of women on management boards and firm performance in publicly traded companies within the Visegrad Group countries during the 2019-2021 period. Research Design & Methods: The study focuses on 451 publicly traded companies in the Visegrad Group countries over the 2019-2021 period, examining the composition of management boards in terms of gender diversity. The study uses four types of characteristics to describe the management board's composition, including the presence of women on the board, the percentage of female directors, Blau's index of heterogeneity, and the gender of the CEO. The t-tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, and data regression are applied to investigate the influence of female managers on company efficiency, as well as market performance. Findings: The data shows that only 32.8% of companies have at least one woman on their management board and the average share of women on these boards is low at 12%. We found a positive relationship between operating efficiency and the percentage of women on the management board and board gender diversity, but no statistically significant association between women's presence on the management board and market performance. Our study supports the hypothesis that a woman's presence on the management board affects firm performance. Implications & Recommendations: The findings can be valuable and may have practical implications for policymakers and company executives. Policymakers can use this information to support and promote policies that encourage gender diversity in corporate leadership. Companies interested in promoting diversity can use this information to support their efforts to increase female representation on their management boards and potentially improve their performance. Contribution & Value Added: This study contributes to the ongoing discussion on gender diversity in corporate leadership and its potential impact on firm performance. Thus, it might affect the behaviour of companies operating in similar institutional environment, namely in Visegrad Group countries. Using a sample of 104 companies that conducted initial public offering (IPO) on the Warsaw Stock Exchange between 2006 and 2016, we investigated the relationship between the accuracy and bias of the earnings forecast disclosed in the IPO prospectus and the firm corporate governance attributes. Applying multiple Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regressions models, we focused on the role of the board size, the percentage of women on the board, the board age diversity measure, and the proportion of shares owned by the members of the board. Generally, our findings show that some characteristics of management and supervisory board improve the usefulness of earnings forecasts’ credibility. Especially, a more diversified board in terms of age and higher management ownership results in more accurate forecasts. This is the first study giving an insight into the role of supervisory and management board characteristics on precision of earnings forecasts revealed in the prospectus by Polish IPO companies.

Purpose: This paper aims to assess the impact of energy economic instruments and macroeconomic stabilization on decarbonization in the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) from 2005 to 2019. The central research hypothesis (H) is "The impact of economic instruments and macroeconomic stabilization on decarbonization varies in the Central and Eastern European Countries from 2005 to 2019". Design/methodology/approach: We use the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) to verify our hypothesis. Findings: The impact of economic instruments is varied. The most effective instruments are the EU Emissions Trading System, outlays on renewable energy sources, and futures contracts for CO2 emissions. Research limitations/implications: The availability of data, the choice of normalization method and the choice of estimation method for both the one-equation model. Practical implications: The results show that economic instruments and macroeconomic stabilization have a positive impact on the decarbonization of economies, hence shaping their appropriate level is important for sustainable development. Purpose: The main aim of this paper is to assess the impact of environmental taxes on the financial security of the logistics sector in Poland from 2008 to 2020. Design/methodology/approach: We normalize diagnostic variables into synthetic indicators to verify the hypothesis. We use the classical least squares method (OLS). Findings: The results indicate a positive trend in the financial security of the logistics sector in Poland from 2008 to 2020. However, in 2020, there was a certain breakdown in financial security caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, environmental taxes statistically significantly impact the logistics sector's financial security (p < 0.05). Research limitations/implications: The availability of data, the choice of normalization method and the estimation method for the model. Practical implications: The research results indicate that the logistics sector should analyze regulations in shaping the EU environmental protection policy, including, above all, environmental taxes. Purpose: The main aim of this paper is to assess the level and dynamics of sustainable development of the logistics sector in the ten largest economies of the European Union from 2008 to 2020. Design/methodology/approach: We normalize diagnostic variables into synthetic indicators to verify the hypothesis. We created a synthetic sustainable development index and indicators describing its economic, social, and environmental pillars. Findings: The results indicate a positive trend in the sustainable development of the logistics sector in the largest EU economies from 2008 to 2020. Moreover, in most cases, countries with a higher GDP level also have a higher level of sustainable logistics development. Purpose -- The paper's main aim is to discuss opportunities and threats to the sustainable development of enterprises in Poland in the era of geopolitical and socio-economic crises connected with the war in Ukraine. Research method -- The main research hypothesis is as follows: "Sustainable development is a chance for enterprises that want to meet market challenges and build their competitive position during geopolitical crises". Implementing the research goal required a retrospective and critical review of selected Polish and English-language literature and the PESTEL analysis. The publication's review was based on the Scopus, Web of Science and BazEkon databases. Results -- The results of the analysis indicate that sustainable development eliminates negative phenomena in crises, prevents the degradation of the natural environment, supports social inclusion and integrates the organisation and management of economic entities. Originality / value / implications / recommendations -- The added value of the paper is the use of the PESTEL and SWOT tools to assess the prospects for sustainable development of enterprises. The research results are original, up-to-date and important for the theory and business practice. Purpose: The paper's main aim is to assess the impact of macroeconomic, social and environmental stability on the sustainable development of energy enterprises in the Visegrad Group (V4: the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) from 2008 to 2020. Design/methodology/approach: To assess a statistically significant relationship, we use the correlation coefficients, the Ordinary Least Squares and the Seemingly Unrelated Regression method. Findings: The research results indicate that macroeconomic, social and environmental stability have a statistically significant impact on the sustainable development of the energy sector. Research limitations/implications: The sample size is small for any generalization. A mixed method approach in the future could contribute to a holistic finding. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-atherosclerotic effect of pomegranate seed oil as a source of conjugated linolenic acid (CLnA) (cis-9,trans-11,cis-13; punicic acid) compared to linolenic acid (LnA) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) (cis-9,trans-11) in apoE/LDLR−/− mice. In the LONG experiment, 10-week old mice were fed for the 18 weeks. In the SHORT experiment, 18-week old mice were fed for the 10 weeks. Diets were supplied with seed oils equivalent to an amount of 0.5% of studied fatty acids. In the SHORT experiment, plasma TCh and LDL+VLDL cholesterol levels were significantly decreased in animals fed CLnA and CLA compared to the Control. The expression of PPARα in liver was four-fold increased in CLnA group in the SHORT experiment, and as a consequence the expression of its target gene ACO was three-fold increased, whereas the liver's expression of SREBP-1 and FAS were decreased in CLnA mice only in the LONG experiment. Punicic acid and CLA isomers were determined in the adipose tissue and liver in animals receiving pomegranate seed oil. In both experiments, there were no effects on the area of atherosclerotic plaque in aortic roots. However, in the SHORT experiment, the area of atherosclerosis in the entire aorta in the CLA group compared to CLnA and LnA was significantly decreased. In conclusion, CLnA improved the lipid profile and affected the lipid metabolism gene expression, but did not have the impact on the development of atherosclerotic plaque in apoE/LDLR−/− mice. Purpose - The article aims to assess the impact of contemporary external socio-economic determinants, including globalization, eco-innovation, social development, and macroeconomic stabilization, on the sustainable development of manufacturing enterprises in Poland and Germany from 2008 to 2020. Research method - This paper is empirical. The survey covers the manufacturing enterprises in Poland and Germany. The first part discusses the conceptual background related to the sustainable development of enterprises in a socio-economic context. The empirical part includes the methodology and results of the study. To determine the relationship between socio-economic factors and sustainable development, the author uses the Least Square Method (OLS) and Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR). Results - The research results show a statistically significant relationship between the variables. Socioeconomic indicators are vital determinants of the sustainable development of manufacturing enterprises. The models show that the impact of individual exogenous determinants is different in Poland and Germany. Originality/value/implications/recommendations - The statistical assessment of the socio-economic impact on enterprises' sustainable development is relatively poorly understood. The issue is new, contemporary and requires further analysis. The exogenous socio-economic factors are important for enterprises sustainable development. It is important to launch macroeconomic efforts to implement sustainable development goals. The results show a different impact of socio-economic indicators on the sustainable development of manufacturing enterprises, which may indicate that the enterprise development depends on many factors that are different in analysed countries.
