The 28 species of ten genera, subfamily Phytomyzinae, have been known in Thailand, are revised; 13 new species are described, Phytobia bimaculata sp. nov., P. caudata sp. nov., P. conigera sp. nov., P. cucullata sp. nov., P. papillata sp. nov., P. sinuosa sp. nov., P. thaiensis sp. nov., P. torulosa sp. nov., Amauromyza ramosa sp. nov., Cerodontha triangularis sp. nov., Phytoliriomyza cheliloba sp. nov., Calycomyza flavoscutellata sp. nov., and Aulagromyza mesophalloides sp. nov.; nine Oriental species are recorded as new to the fauna, and one new synonym, Pseudonapomyza rampae Spencer, 1986, is established. Keys to the Thailand species of the genera Phytobia, Cerodontha, Liriomyza and Pseudonapomyza, and keys to the Oriental species of the genera Amauromyza and Aulagromyza are given.

Oriental species of the genera Hendelia Czerny and Clusiodes Coquillett are revised. Six new species, Hendelia fulvifasciata sp. nov., H. geniculata sp. nov., H. laosica sp. nov., H. philippinensis sp. nov., and H. spilota sp. nov., and Clusiodes latus sp. nov. are described. Clusiodes usikumuri Sueyoshi syn. nov., new localities of Hendelia aberrans (Frey) and H. plumipes (Sasakawa), and faunistic characteristics of the Clusiidae in Oriental region are given.

The 16 Oriental species of Craspedochaeta are revised. Nine new species, Craspedochaeta maai sp. nov., C. parva sp. nov., C. pilosa sp. nov., C. quinquespinula sp. nov., C. secunda sp. nov., C. spinulifera sp. nov., C. unguicauda sp. nov., C. vietnamensis sp. nov. and C. xanthopleura sp. nov., are described. New locality records are given for Craspedochaeta biseta (Hendel), C. borneoensis (Sasakawa), C. caligula (Sasakawa), C. hyalina (Sasakawa), C. nigripalpis (Steyskal and Sasakawa) and C. sasakawai Lonsdale and Marshall. A key to the 19 Oriental species is provided, and their species groups are discussed.

Oriental species of a small genus Allometopon are revised. Eight new species: Allometopon antennalis, macrophallus and megastylis from Philippines, A. dicrostylis from Thailand, A. grypostylis from Laos, A. hybos from Laos, Malaysia and Philippines, A. thrinacos from Philippines and Malaysia, and A. trimaculosus from Laos and Thailand. Key to Oriental species is given, and the treatment of two subgenera, Allometopon s. str. and Calometopon, is discussed. Male of A. sensitivum Sasakawa is recorded for the first time.

Seven species of agromyzid leafminers are recorded as the first representatives of this family from Laos. They include one new species, Japanagromyza laosica, and six previously described species, one belonging to the genus Melanagromyza, four to Japanagromyza, and one to Agromyza. Of these, Agromyza phragmitidis Hendel, 1922 is also newly reported from Sabah in Malaysia.

This paper presents some genera and species of the Philippine lauxaniid flies. Two new genera, Empagataomyia (type-species: E. platyceraia sp. nov.) and Paramaquilingia (typespecies: P. asymmetrocerca sp. nov.) of the subfamily Lauxaniinae, four new species of the genus Sapromyza Fallen: alcimoposthia, pansa, parallela and philippinensis, and three new species of the genus Homoneura van der Wulp: dilobophora, sexseta and torrevillasi, are described, making total now known in the Philippines 108. A key to the Oriental species of Sapromyza, and the faunistic account in the Philippines are given.

A total of 117 agromyzid leafminers are known to occur in Turkey, among which Agromyza phylloposthia, Pseudonapomyza pyriformis, Liriomyza cardariae and Phytomyza geminata are described as new to science. A faunistic account of the Agromyzidae in Turkey is given.

Eight species of the Agromyzidae are recorded from Nepal. Four species: Amauromyza crucifera, Phytoliriomyza marginalis and ypsilon, and Phytomyza distantia, are described as new to science, and three species are recorded newly. The faunistic account of the Nepalese Agromyzidae is given.

Three species of the leaf-mining agromyzids, Melanagromyza floris Spencer, 1963, Liriomyza marginalis (Malloch, 1913) and Phytoliriomyza pilosella Spencer, 1973, are recorded newly from the Galapagos Islands. Important characters of the male genitalia are noted for the three species. A key to all five Galapagos species of the Agromyzidae is given.

The Japanese species of the genus Cerodontha are revised. Of the 30 species studied, 5 are new to science, C. (Icteromyza) ecaudata, C. (Poemyza) chonoterminalis and togashii, and C. (Butomomyza) eminula and hakusana, and 4 species are recorded newly.

The 49 species of Agromyzidae hitherto known in Melanesia have been revised and additional unidentified material in the Bishop Museum has been examined. Five new species described are: Ophiomyia dumosa, 0. phalloides and Phytomyza inusitata from Vanuatu, Phytobia bifistula form Guadalcanal and Pseudonapomyza ommata from New Caledonia. Nine species known from the Oriental region are recorded as new to Melanesia. Of the 64 species now confirmed, 30 species (47%) are endemic, 31 are present elsewhere in the Oriental and Australian regions, or in the Pacific area, and 3 are considered as introductions.

To develop the preparative method for poly( dl -lactide- co -glycolide)-based microspheres containing proteins, we prepared microspheres from mixture of poly( dl -lactide- co -glycolide) and polydepsipeptide- block -poly( dl -lactide) having cationic or anionic pendant groups. Since the latter amphiphilic copolymers consisting of hydrophobic poly( dl -lactide) segment and hydrophilic polydepsipeptide segment with amino or carboxyl groups could be converted to cationic or anionic block copolymers, they could act as biodegradable surfactants on the preparation of poly( dl -lactide- co -glycolide)-based microspheres by water-in-oil-in-water emulsion method. The amphiphilic block copolymers were established to stabilize primary emulsions on the preparation of microspheres by scanning electron microscopy. We investigated the effects of the addition of the block copolymers on the entrapment efficiency of protein, the release behavior of protein from microspheres and the stability of protein.

Three species of the dipterous family Diadocidiidae and one species of the Borboropsidae are recorded from Japan (Honshu). Palaeodocidia ishizakii gen. and sp. nov. of the former family and Borboropsis yakunoana sp. nov. of the latter are described and their male genitalia are illustrated. The genus Palaeodocidia differs from Diadocidia in the numbers of flagellomeres and abdominal tergites, and in peculiar structures of the male genitalia. Diadocidia spinosula Tollet, 1948, known from Europe, is recorded for the first time from Honshu, Japan.

Six new mycetophilid species from three genera belonging to the tribe Exechiini are described: Anatella prominens on a fungus of the Polyporaceae, Allodia bipexa and Allodia conifera on fungi of the Russulaceae, Allodia quadrata on fungi of the Hygrophoraceae, Tricholomataceae, Rhodophyllaceae, Russulaceae and Fistulinaceae, Allodia laccariae on a fungus of the Tricholomataceae, and Cordyla bidenticulata on a fungus of the Boletaceae. Their characteristic male genitalia are illustrated. Cordyla flaviceps Staeger, Cordyla fusca Meigen and Cordyla pusilla Edwards are newly recorded from Japan.

This paper presents the new or little-known species of the Lauxaniidae in the Ryukyu Islands and Formosa. Fourteen new species (7 species of the Lauxaniinae and 7 of the Homoneurinae) are described, with illustrations of the male genitalia, and 8 species are recorded newly. An account is given of the zoogeographic distribution of the genera in those islands.

The Vietnamese fauna of lauxaniid flies is studied for the first time. Of the 75 species ascertained, 34 species are new to science and 40 species are newly recorded. A new subgenus, Notiosapromyza, of the genus Sapromyza is described. Keys to the species of the genera Minettia, Sapromyza and Homoneura are given. Male genitalia are illustrated for all new species. Additionally, three species of homoneura are recorded from Cambodia for the first time.

Five species of agromyzid leaf-miners are recorded for the fi rst time from the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand. Two species, Ophiomyia cornuta de Meijere and Phytoliriomyza tahitiensis Sasakawa, are new to the fauna of New Zealand.

This paper presents the Malayan and Ryukyu faunae of lauxaniid flies. Descriptions of eleven new species are given : Prosopomyia orientalis, Homoneura bistylata, longiparameria and shewelli, and Minettia vockerothi from Malaya, and Homoneura dicyrta, furcistylis and paraforcipata, Prosopophorella iriomotensis, Steganopsis japonica and Protrigonometopus okinawanus from Ryukyu Islands, Japan. Distribution of genus Prosopomyia in Oriental region is recorded for the first time.

The 29 species of the subfamily Agromyzinae in Thailand are revised, among these 13 species are described as new to science: Melanagromyza ancyla sp. nov., M. catalexis sp. nov., M. cirrappendicula sp. nov., M. lunulata sp. nov., M. macilenta sp. nov., M. multistriata sp. nov., M. pandiculata sp. nov., M. sexseriata sp. nov., M. spinuliloba sp. nov., M. turgida sp. nov., Ophiomyia flagellata sp. nov., O. quadrifida sp. nov., O. striata sp. nov.; and nine species (three species of Agromyza, two of Melanagromyza and four of Ophiomyia) are recorded as new to Thailand. One new synonym is established: Melanagromyza cordiophoeta Spencer, 1961, as a junior synonym of M. dolichostigma Meijere, 1922. Keys to the Thailand species of the genera Agromyza, Melanagromyza and Ophiomyia are given.

ネパール王国産ハモグリバエ科の分布については, これまで23種(Spencer, 1965による7種と, Sasakawa, 1979による16種)が記録されている。今回, ビショップ博物館昆虫部に所蔵されている標本を調べたところ, 5新種と7未記録種を追加することができた。なかでも既知分布域が全北区に限られていたMetopomyza属(M. nepalensis n. sp.)の分布が知られたことは注目される。しかし, 隣接するインド北部のヒマーチャル・プラデーシュ, ウッタル・プラデーシュ, ビハール諸州から記録されている111種(Sasakawa, 1979)に対して, その1/3にも満たない種数からみて, 今後の研究によって未知のAgromyza属はじめ, Melanagromyza, Liriomyza属の種がさらに追加されることであろう。ついで広葉樹のピスフレック(pith fleck)形成害虫であるPhytobia属について, 東洋区及びパプアニューギニア産22種の検索表とともに, 7新種(中国福建省, ラオス, フィリピン, マレーシア(サラワク), インドネシア(スラウェシ島)及びパプアニューギニア)を含む12種を記載した。最後に, Japanagromyza属2種の新しい分布国と1新種(フィリピン), Calycomyza属の1新種(台湾), Cerodontha属の1新種(中国福建省)などの記載を行った。なお, 雄交尾器の特異な形態から既知2種がシノニムであることを明らかにした。, This paper is based on the collection in the Bishop Museum : fifteen species of Agromyzidae are recorded from Nepal, five of which are described as new to science; twelve species (seven new species) of the genus Phytobia are recorded from the Oriental Region and Papua New Guinea, and three new species of the genera Japanagromyza (from Philippines), Calycomyza (Taiwan) and Cerodontha (China) are also described. Two new synonyms are established.

A collection of the Agromyzidae from Chile in the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco, has been studied. Nine new species : Melanagromyza biobioensis and M. ustulata, Ophiomyia maipuensis and O. tuberimentula, Liriomyza bituberculata, L. maipuensis and L. quinquevittata, Haplopeodes punctiscutellatus, and Calycomyza turbida, are described. Eleven species of six genera are recorded for the first time.

The Oriental species of the clusiid genera Phylloclusia Hendel, 1913, Sobarocephala Czerny, 1903, Tetrameringia McAlpine, 1960, Heteromeringia Czerny, 1903, Tranomeringia Sasakawa, 1966, and Clusia Haliday, 1838, which belong to the subfamily Clusiinae in having inclinate third (lowermost, rarely fourth) fronto-orbital bristles, are revised. It is confirmed that two of these genera, Sobarocephala and Heteromeringia, indeed belong to the Clusiinae (not the Sobarocephalinae and Clusiodinae). Of the 22 species identified, 14 are described as new to science: Phylloclusia bivittata sp. nov. from Laos and Vietnam and P. sternopleuralis sp. nov. from Malaysia; Sobarocephala baculigera sp. nov. and S. fuscifacies sp. nov. from the Philippines; S. eurystylis sp. nov. from Malaysia; S. geniculata sp. nov. and S. megastylis sp. nov. from Thailand; Tetrameringia maculata sp. nov. from Laos; Heteromeringia abatanensis sp. nov. and H. spinifera sp. nov. from the Philippines, H. melanoprotoma sp. nov. from Laos, H. paraphalloides sp. nov. from Vietnam and Malaysia, and H. pectinata sp. nov. from Malaysia, Tranomeringia scutellata sp. nov. from the Philippines. New locality records are given for Phylloclusia steleocera Hendel, 1913, Sobarocephala vockerothi Sasakawa, 1993, Heteromeringia lyneborgi Sasakawa, 1966, H. melaena Sasakawa, 1966, H. mirabilis Sasakawa, 1966, H. nigricans Sasakawa, 1966, and Clusia sexlineata Frey, 1960. Keys to the Oriental species of the genera Phylloclusia, Sobarocephala, and Heteromeringia are provided, and a revised terminology for the components of the male phallus is given.

The specimens of the Agromyzidae from Peru. Venezuela and their adjacent countries in the collection of the California Academy of Sciences. San Francisco, have been examined. Of the 38 Peruvian species studied, 13 are new to science : Melanagromyza flexuosa and M. michelbacheri, Ophiomyia chancayana, Japanagromyza tingomariensis, Phytobia mentula, P. monsonensis and P. pipinna, Cerodontha (C.) macrophalloides, Liriomyza bispinosa and L. undulatimentula, and Calycomyza cuspidata, C. punctata and C. vallicola : 18 species are newly recorded. Keys are provided to the 6 genera and 34 species now known in Peru. Three new species : Cerodontha (Diz.) impatientis, Liriomyza geniculata and L. irwini, from Venezuela. Agromyza serratimentula n. sp. from Brazil and Amauromyza (Cephal.) boliviensis n. sp. from Bolivia, are also described.

A poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)-like biodegradable thermosensitive polydepsipeptide, poly[Glc-Asn(N-isopropyl)], was synthesized by introducing an isopropyl amide group into poly[Glc-Asn]. Poly[Glc-Asn(N-isopropyl)] was degraded in vitro by cleavage of the ester bonds in the main chain in water at room temperature. The non-toxic nature of the polymer and its degradation products, coupled with a cloud point at 29 degrees C in water, make this polymer attractive for biomedical implant applications.

The Oriental agromyzid leafminers of the genus Japanagromyza Sasakawa are reviewed. Four new species, Japanagromyza browni and J. hymenoedemia from Thailand, J. cestra from Malaysia and South China, J. intricata from Malaysia, are described. Six species are recorded as new to Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, and one new synonym is established. Key to Oriental species is given. Distribution, systematics and biology of Oriental species are discussed.

京都府下夜久野町のクリ園(筑波5年生植栽)で,クリイガアブラムシの発生消長と移動及び分散との関係を調査し,以下の結果を得た。1. 幹母→普通型(5世代)→産性型→有性型の計8世代を経過する。2. 発生消長には2つの型がある。ひとつは樹皮上の幼虫が,6月下旬ごろからきゅう果へ第1次移動を行った後に増殖して高密度に達するもので,他は8月中旬ごろまでほとんど寄生が認められないのに第2次樹内移動及び樹間分散後に急増するものである。当然,若はぜによる被害は前者に大きく,後者ではほとんど認められない。3. 第2次移動は8月下旬から9月中旬にかけて,主として1令幼虫によって行われ,かなり大視模な樹内・樹間の分散が起こる。ただし,1令幼虫の推定歩行距離や各樹の寄生きゅう果率変動からみて,樹間分散は広域に拡がるのではなくて狭い範囲にとどまる。

The aphidophagous syrphid fly,Episyrphus balteatus (de Geer), actively visits the Japanese maple,Acer palmatum Thunb., in early spring and oviposits adjacent to colonies of 2 maple aphids,Periphyllus californiensis (Shinji) andYamatocallis tokyoensis (Takahashi). Female flies, in the field, chose small, young colonies with nymphs and wingless adult aphids for their oviposition sites rather than older colonies including winged adults. Same tendency was clearly observed in the experiments with models. It was demonstrated experimentally that they can discriminate between the wingless and winged adult models. It is suggested that females of the hover fly assess the value of aphid colonies as the food resource of their offspring.

近年, 京都市及び安城市で, ハウス栽培植物(ユリとキュウリ)の根部を食害するハエ幼虫による被害が問題になっている。両地で採集された標本を調査したところ, 本害虫はクロバネキノコバエ科の新種であったので, チビクロバネキノコバエBradysia agrestis Sasakawaと命名し, ここに記載したほか, 2・3の生態的知見を述べる。成虫の寿命は雄で約6日間, 雌は産卵後間もなく死亡するので約4日である。雄は翅を振動させながら雌に接近し, 生殖器の交接後は互に逆方向を向いて数分間交尾する。雌は通常25卵くらいの卵塊を腐植物の裏側に2∿3塊に分けて産みつける。親雌は個体によって雌雄いずれかの単性を産み, その比は1 : 1である。幼虫はトウモロコシ寒天培地での人工飼育が可能であるが, 種々のそ菜の葉や根も摂食することを確かめた。幼虫は4令を経過して蛹化する。理論的発育零点は卵で5.8℃, 幼虫では9.0℃, 蛹では8.7℃であり, 卵から蛹期までの発育有効積算温度は193.1日度である。, A new sciarid pest, Bradysia agrestis Sasakawa, is described. The occurrence of this fly has become increasingly troublesome in the plastic houses in Kyoto and Anjyo, Aichi Pref. The larvae infest the roots of potted lily and cucumber in these areas. The investigations on biology have been carried out under laboratory conditions by using Corn Meal Agar media. Preoviposition period is 2-3 days. Females die soon after they have oviposited in a batch of about 25 (20-40) eggs. Males survive about 2 days longer than females. This species is monogenic. Copulation last usually from 3 to 6 minutes. Total number of eggs laid by a single female varies 15 to 110 (average 60-80 eggs). The larvae pass through four instars. Under constant temperatures the developmental periods decreased as temperatures increased from 20 to 28℃. The thresholds of development for egg, larva and pupa are 5.8,9.0 and 8.7℃, respectively, and the thermal constant throughout the immature stage is 193.1 day-degrees.

パイオニア雌による寄主植物の選択, すなわち寄主体上への着陸と母孔の穿孔開始は, でたらめに行われるか, あるいは寄主が発散する揮発性物質(第一次誘引)に誘引されるかを明らかにする目的で, 大枝演習林内のアカマツ植生地において一連の実験を行った。1.雌雄は地上4m前後の高度を飛翔する。ただし, 林内よりも林縁における飛行高度のほうがやや高い。2.粘着トラップに捕獲された総成虫個体数は, 健全立木と激害型・微害型モデル立木とのあいだに有意差がみられなかった。すなわち, いずれの実験立木にも日当り約60匹が着陸するようで, パイオニアは健全木と衰弱木との識別ができない(ランダム着陸)。着陸後, 穿孔開始の段階で樹脂圧の高い健全木では松脂のしん(滲)出によって穿孔が阻止される。それに反して, 激害または微害型モデル立木では樹脂圧が皆無になったとき穿孔がみられる。ただし, シラホシゾウ類の既寄生があるときには樹脂圧が1.2kg/(cm)^2でも穿孔が可能であった。3.したがって, 本種のパイオニア雌は寄主に着陸後, その適否を判定し, 穿孔を開始するといえる。おそらくその時点では化学刺激を感知するのであろう。, Detection of healthy or weakened pine hosts from a distance by the minute pine bark beetle, Cryphalus fulvus, through olfaction was investigated in a pine stand. Beetles were flying usually at a height of about 4m above ground level in and out of stand. There was no significant difference between landing rates, monitored by traps, of beetles on weakened trees and controls. Pioneer beetles were able to attack only weakened trees reduced resin pressure. Thus, selection of suitable breeding material must occur while pioneer beetles are in contact with tree after landing.

貯蔵ショウガの根茎を食害し,腐敗を伴う被害を与えるクロバネキノコバエは,ヒトトゲクロバネキノコバエPsilosciara flammulinae SASAKAWAとショウガクロバネキノコバエPhytosciara zingiberis SASAKAWAの2種で,後者は新種である。ショウガクロバネキノコバエによるショウガ根茎の被害の進行状況を観察したほか,長崎県内における被害発生の実態ならびに室内飼育による本種の生態を調査した。その結果,貯蔵庫内での被害発生は,ショウガの収穫と同時に,根茎への食入幼虫あるいは産下卵の付着した根茎の搬入に起因していると考えられた。成虫はショウガの茎葉基部や根茎表面に産卵する。幼虫はまず根茎の茎葉切断部や萌芽部の組織の柔らかい部分を食害する。その後,次第に根茎内部に食入してゆき,ついには繊維質だけが残ったスポンジ状の根茎となり,雑菌の侵入を伴ったばあいには根茎の腐敗を伴う。灰色かび病菌を培養したPDA培地による飼育での卵・幼虫・蛹期の有効積算温度はそれぞれ72.1, 135.6, 62.5日度であった。貯蔵庫内ではショウガ収穫後約1か月経った12月上旬から成虫の発生がみられ,1月上旬に第1回目の発生ピークが,つづいて2月中に第2回目のピークがみられたのちは3月下旬まで多発した。したがって貯蔵期間中に2∼3世代経過するようで,世代を経るにつれて被害が激増した。

キイロコキクイムシTaenioglyptes fulvus (NIIJIMA)の発育経過および習性を適確に観察するために,アカマツ樹皮を2枚の塩化ビニール板で挾みこんだ簡単な飼育装置を用いたところ,全発育期間を通じて生育が可能であった。まず,雌成虫による母孔形成の過程を経時的に明らかにし,正常な横平孔を形成するためには蛹室内で羽化後数日間の後食が必要であることがわかった。交尾は侵入孔に接した交尾室内で行われ,雌は数日間の産卵前期間を経て,交尾室付近で2∼4回に分けて計20個内外の卵をルーズな卵塊として産みつける。産卵数は母孔の長さや雌成虫の生存日数が長いほど多くなる。ふ化幼虫の食入部位は不規則であるが,母孔の両端近くから始まるのが通例である。幼虫は2令を経過し,20日内外で老熟し,蛹室を作る。蛹期間は約1週間である。最適生息密度よりも高い寄主では,かなりの個体が母孔形成および産卵を中止して寄主から脱出する。そして適当な寄主と密度条件が満たされれば,脱出前よりも長い母孔を作り,再交尾ののち産卵を続けるので,1雌あたりの総産卵数が増加する。したがって,本種の寄主脱出と再寄生現象は寄主内密度調節とともに個体数の増大をもたらすという生態学的意義がある。

さきに刊行した『虫の文化史』に補足すべき知見, すなわちカイコの眠期呼称についての伝説, 人体寄生虫シラミの分類学的検討などの文献を引用, 解説した。, It used to be said that the moulting periods of silkworm are the rest of lion, hawk, boat and yard, for the first to fourth moults in the larval stage, respectively, by the old sericulturists in Japan. It is originated from a myth of a young princess, Konjiki-hime's passion history in the Old China. Also, the specific status of human head and body louse, and the Atlantic louse line are discussed.

日本産Boletina属キノコバエ20種について分類学的検討を行い, あわせて既知種を含む全種の検索表を作った。種的特徴としての雄生殖器については精細な図と共に詳しく記述した。, Seventeen Japanese species of Boletina are recorded, 13 of which are described as new. A key is provided to the 21 species from Japan.

本学鷹ケ峰演習林に於いてアカマツ伐採木に穿孔加害するマツアナアキゾウムシ, オオゾウムシ及びマツノマダラカミキリについて調べた結果は次の如くである。1)マツアナアキゾウムシはアカマツ林内よりも広葉樹林又は竹林内に設置した餌木に多く穿孔する。また, 表面積3000∿3500(cm)^2の餌木に多く穿孔する。2)オオゾウムシは樹皮の厚い餌木に, マツノマダラカミキリは樹皮の薄い餌木に多く穿孔する。3)餌木の表面部位別による穿孔数の差はみられないようである。, The differences in the damages between three pine beetles, Hylobius abietis haroldi FAUST, Sipalus hypocrita BOHEMEN and Monochamus tesserula WHITE, were observed by using of the bait-trees (The Japanese Akamatsu "Pinus densiflora SIEB. et ZUCC.") at the Takagamine Experimental Forest of Kyoto Prefectural University in 1957. The result of analysis of variance showed the significance in the damages between three beetles. The adults of Hylobius abietis haroldi more severely attack the bait-trees laid in the clusteres of the broad-leaf trees or bamboos than for that in the cluster of Akamatsu. The adults of Sipalus hypocrita laid more eggs on the thicker bark of Akamatsu and of Monochamus tesserula on the thiner bark than those of Hylobius.

東洋および太平洋地域産クチキバエ科Czernyola属の14種(5新種を含む)とChaetoczernyola属1種について分類学的検討を行なった。, Fourteen Oriental and Pacific species of the genus Czernyola, with a key to the species and descriptions of five new species are given in this part. The male of Chaetoczernyola novaeguineae Soos was recorded firstly.

The investigations were carried out to know the temperature limit of activity, the locomotive velocity and the diurnal activity of the fly of the corn-linear leaf-miner, Phytomyza nigra MEIGEN. The results may be summarized as follows : 1. The range of temperature zone of normal activity was 31.8-10.3℃≒22℃ in female and 35.0-9.3℃≒26℃ in male. 2. Comparing to the other leaf-miners, the range of temperature zone of normal activity of this fly is closely allied to the corn-blotch leaf-miner and it narrower than of the chrysanthemum leaf-miner and the ranunculus leaf-miner but broader than of the rice leaf-miner and soy-bean root-miner. 3. The diurnal rhythm of activity of the fly is affected mainly by the diurnal change of temperature so that it depends upon the temperature reaction. The lower limit of activity of the fly is about 10℃ in the field. 4. In cloudy weather, the condition of rest gradually changes into of activity and the time beginning of activity is later than in fine weather. 5. The locomotive velocity, measured under gradually rising temperature, was calculated with ARRHENIUS' formula. The critical temperatures are at 20℃ and 29.03℃, and these temperatures somewhat agree with the temperatures at which the fly begins to fly and becomes nervous, i. e. 17.6℃ and 33.5℃ respectively. The temperature increments are as follows : Below 20℃‥‥‥‥‥μ=11372 20℃-29℃‥‥‥‥‥μ=14464 above 29℃‥‥‥‥‥μ=7146 6. The locomotive velocity under field conditions is very much intimately affected by the presence or absence of solar radiation.

台湾産ハモグリバエ科54種(11新種を含む)について分類学的検討を行ない, あわせて既知種を含む検索表を属ごとに作成した。, Fifty-four species of Agromyzidae are recorded from Formosa, 11 of which are described as new and keys are given to known Formosan species. Nearly half of a total of 73 species in the 13 genera now known to be represented in Formosa belong to Melanagromyza and Phytomyza. Four genera, Trilobomyza, Lemurimyza, Pseudoliriomyza and Ptochomyza found in the Oriental region are unknown in Formosa.

従来スズメガ類では密度依存的な多型現象が知られていなかったが,オオスカシバについて幼虫期の生息密度を変えることによって体色や発育がどんな影響をうけるかを調べたところ,明らかに密度に依存した変異がみられた。すなわち,1令期から集合状態で育った幼虫は体色が2令期から黒化し,摂食量や酸素消費量が少なく,幼虫および蛹の体重が軽いほか,死亡率がきわめて高い。したがって単独生育下で多く出現する通常の淡緑色幼虫が本種の生活により適応していると考えられる。
