We perform a weak-lensing study of the nearby cool-core galaxy clusters, Hydra A ($z=0.0538$) and A478 ($z=0.0881$), of which brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) host powerful activities of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). For each cluster, the observed tangential shear profile is well described either by a single Navarro--Frenk--White model or a two-component model including the BCG as an unresolved point mass. For A478, we determine the BCG and its host-halo masses from a joint fit to weak-lensing and stellar photometry measurements. We find that the choice of initial mass functions (IMFs) can introduce a factor of two uncertainty in the BCG mass, whereas the BCG host halo mass is well constrained by data. We perform a joint analysis of weak-lensing and stellar kinematics data available for the Hydra A cluster, which allows us to constrain the central mass profile without assuming specific IMFs. We find that the central mass profile ($r<300$kpc) determined from the joint analysis is in excellent agreement with those from independent measurements, including dynamical masses estimated from the cold gas disk component, X-ray hydrostatic total mass estimates, and the central stellar mass estimated based on the Salpeter IMF. The observed dark-matter fraction around the BCG for Hydra A is found to be smaller than those predicted by adiabatic contraction models, suggesting the importance of other physical processes, such as the the AGN feedback and/or dissipationless mergers., Comment: accepted for the publication in MNRAS, 15 pages 10 figures

We conduct a joint X-ray and weak-lensing study of four relaxed galaxy clusters (Hydra A, A478, A1689 and A1835) observed by both Suzaku and Subaru out to virial radii, with an aim to understand recently-discovered unexpected feature of the ICM in cluster outskirts. We show that the average hydrostatic-to-lensing total mass ratio for the four clusters decreases from \sim 70% to \sim 40% as the overdensity contrast decreases from 500 to the virial value.The average gas mass fraction from lensing total mass estimates increases with cluster radius and agrees with the cosmic mean baryon fraction within the virial radius, whereas the X-ray-based gas fraction considerably exceeds the cosmic values due to underestimation of the hydrostatic mass. We also develop a new advanced method for determining normalized cluster radial profiles for multiple X-ray observables by simultaneously taking into account both their radial dependence and multivariate scaling relations with weak-lensing masses. Although the four clusters span a range of halo mass, concentration, X-ray luminosity and redshift, we find that the gas entropy, pressure, temperature and density profiles are all remarkably self-similar when scaled with the lensing M_200 mass and r_200 radius.The entropy monotonically increases out to \sim 0.5r_200 following the accretion shock heating model K(r)\propto r^1.1, and flattens at \simgt 0.5r_200.The universality of the scaled entropy profiles indicates that the thermalization mechanism over the entire cluster region (>0.1r_200) is controlled by gravitation in a common to all clusters, although the heating efficiency in the outskirts needs to be modified from the standard law.The bivariate scaling functions of the gas density and temperature reveal that the flattening of the outskirts entropy profile is caused by the steepening of the temperature, rather than the flattening of the gas density., Comment: accepted for publication in PASJ : 13 pages 6 figures and 4 tables

We review the characteristics of nucleosynthesis and radioactivities in 'Hypernovae', i.e., supernovae with very large explosion energies ($ \gsim 10^{52} $ ergs) and their $\gamma$-ray line signatures. We also discuss the $^{44}$Ti line $\gamma$-rays from SN1987A and the detectability with INTEGRAL. Signatures of hypernova nucleosynthesis are seen in the large [(Ti, Zn)/Fe] ratios in very metal poor stars. Radioactivities in hypernovae compared to those of ordinary core-collapse supernovae show the following characteristics: 1) The complete Si burning region is more extended, so that the ejected mass of $^{56}$Ni can be much larger. 2) Si-burning takes place in higher entropy and more $\alpha$-rich environment. Thus the $^{44}$Ti abundance relative to $^{56}$Ni is much larger. In aspherical explosions, $^{44}$Ti is even more abundant and ejected with velocities as high as $\sim$ 15,000 km s$^{-1}$, which could be observed in $\gamma$-ray line profiles. 3) The abundance of $^{26}$Al is not so sensitive to the explosion energy, while the $^{60}$Fe abundance is enhanced by a factor of $\sim$ 3., Comment: Invited talk at the ``GAMMA2001'' Symposium, April 4-6, 2001, Baltimore. Radioactive isotopes such as 44Ti offer probably the most direct probe into nucleosynthesis environments in the interior of exploding stars, when the associated gamma-ray activities in the explosion remnant are detected and translated back to the isotopic abundances at the time of the explosion. In this paper, we assert that the procedure may not necessarily be straightforward, at least in the case of 44Ti, an orbital-electron capture decay isotope. Using the analytic model of McKee and Truelove (1995) for young supernova remnants, and assuming the existence of overdense 56Fe-dominated clumps that contain also 44Ti, we show that a high degree of ionization may be caused by the reverse shock so that the electron-capture rate of 44Ti could be significantly reduced from its laboratory value. When applied to Cas A, this increases under certain conditions the current 44Ti-activity by a factor 1.5 - 2.5, which yields a better compatibility between the COMPTEL observation of the 1.16 MeV line activity associated with the 44Ti decay and the SN model predictions of the initial 44Ti abundance. The large abundance ratio of $^{44}Ti/^{56}Ni$ in Cas A is puzzling. In fact, the ratio seems to be larger than the theoretical constraint derived by Woosley & Hoffman (1991). However, this constraint is obtained on the assumption that the explosion is spherically symmetric, whereas Cas A is famous for the asymmetric form of the remnant. Recently, Nagataki et al. (1997) calculated the explosive nucleosynthesis of axisymmetrically deformed collapse-driven supernova. They reported that the ratio of $^{44}Ti/^{56}Ni$ was enhanced by the stronger alpha-rich freezeout in the polar region. In this paper, we apply these results to Cas A and examine whether this effect can explain the large amount of $^{44}Ti$ and the large ratio of $^{44}Ti/^{56}Ni$. We demonstrate that the conventional spherically symmetric explosion model can not explain the $^{44}$Ti mass produced in Cas A if its lifetime is shorter than $\sim$ 80 years and the intervening space is transparent to the gamma-ray line from the decay of $^{44}$Ti. On the other hand, we show the axisymmetric explosion models can solve the problem. We expect the same effect from a three dimensionally asymmetric explosion, since the stronger alpha-rich freezeout will also occur in that case in the region where the larger energy is deposited., Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX text and 3 postscript figures
