Power-operational problems must be resolved with flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) and optimum power flow (OPF). The complexity of power flow analysis in modern power network models is increased by the unpredictability of renewable energy generating sources in addition to the challenge of determining the appropriate locations and ratings for FACTS devices. FACTS devices can increase the thermal capacity of power transmission lines, enabling the network to accommodate more electricity from renewable sources. The major goals of this study are to lower production costs, decrease power losses, enhance the voltage profile of the system, and enhance load capability. To solve a variety of optimization issues optimally, optimization meta-heuristics approaches have been created in response to the increased emphasis on renewable energy sources, such as wind power. Wind energy is an important component of modern power systems due to its affordability and clean nature. This article presents an OPF method for efficiently scheduling energy from wind farms using the Northern Goshawk Optimization (NGO) meta-heuristic technique. The Weibull probability distribution function is used to represent wind speed and estimate the cost of electricity produced by wind turbines based on the planned power. To validate the NGO approach and its results compared with those of other meta-heuristic optimization techniques, such as Chef-Based Optimization Algorithm, Dingo Optimization Algorithm, and Chameleon Swarm Algorithm, the IEEE system 30-bus is used to solve the OPF problem. The study proposes a modified version of African Vultures Optimization Algorithm (AVOA) to address the optimal power flow (OPF) issue. The developed optimizer is called Chaotic AVOA (CAVOA). Prior to applying CAVOA to the problem at hand, its accuracy is evaluated using 23 benchmark functions. The production powers of WTs that are interrupted are predicted using Weibull probability density functions (PDFs). Two additional costs, namely penalty cost and reserve cost, are incorporated into the goal function of the OPF. The simulation results of CAVOA are compared with those of the original AVOA to solve the OPF. The proposed OPF technique and its solution methodology are verified on the IEEE 30‐bus test system, taking into account the flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) devices, which have several benefits such as reducing active power transmission loss, regulating power flow, and improving voltage stability/profile. The research's simulation results demonstrate that CAVOA is more effective in identifying the OPF's optimal solution by reducing the overall power cost and power losses. The results indicate that the CAVOA algorithm outperforms AVOA as a metaheuristic optimization algorithm due to its superior capability in addressing challenging OPF problems with a minimal convergence rate. For example, when comparing the two algorithms, CAVOA achieved a significant improvement. It successfully reduced the cost function by approximately 0.023% in Case I and 0.035% in Case II, while also decreasing power loss by 2.57% in Case II and 0.57% in Case I. Additionally, CAVOA exhibited a remarkable reduction of 5.36% in voltage deviation compared to AVOA in Case I. Rapeseed is one of the most important oilseed crops cultivated in many parts of the world and used as a source of edible oil for human consumption. The present work reports some phytochemical and nutritional potentials of different rapeseed cultivars with a view to exploit their benefits for human nutrition. Five rapeseed cultivars namely; pactol, silvo, topas, serw 4 and serw 6 were analyzed for their phytochemical constituents (such as glutathione, ascorbate, phenolic, flavonoid contents) and some antioxidant enzymes activity (i.e. GPX; guaiacol peroxidase, APX; ascorbate peroxidase, CAT; catalase, SOD; superoxide dismutase) together with their protein profile. Among all cultivars significant variations in glutathione, ascorbate, phenolic and flavonoid contents were observed. The highest DPPH radical scavenging activity of the extract was observed in topas cultivar. Minor variations were noticed in SDS-PAGE protein profile. The results of the study suggest the phytochemical and nutritional potentials of B. napus seeds for human and other animal uses due to their extensive consumption in the world. Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is now the third most important source of edible oil in the world after soybean and palm oil. In this study seeds of five different rapeseed cultivars namely; pactol, silvo, topas, serw 4 and serw 6 were evaluated for their fatty acid composition, glucosinolate profile, amino acids, total tocopherols and phenolic content. Among all cultivars significant variability in fatty acids were observed. The oleic acid (C18:1) ranged from 56.31% to 58.67%, linoleic acid (C18:2) from 10.52% to 13.74%, α-linolenic acid (C18:3) from 8.83% to 10.32% and erucic acid (22:1) from 0.15% to 0.91%. The glucosinolate profile of rapeseed was also separated and identified using high-performance liquid chromatography. Small variations in the glucosinolate profile were observed among all tested cultivars; however, progoitrin and gluconapin were the major glucosinolate found. Additionally, silvo cultivar showed the highest total glucosinolate contents (5.97 umol/g dw). Generally, the contents of aspartic, glutamic, arginine and leucine were high, while the contents of tyrosine and isoleucine were low among all cultivars. For total tocopherols, the results indicated that both serw 6 and pactol cultivars had the highest total tocopherol contents (138.3 and 102.8 mg/100 g oil, respectively). Total phenolic contents varied from 28.0 to 35.4 mg/g dw. The highest total phenolic content was found in topas while the lowest value was detected in serw 6. These parameters; fatty acid contents, glucosinolate profile and amino acids together with total tocopherols and phenolic contents, could be taken into consideration by oilseed rape breeders as selection criteria for developing genotypes with modified seed quality traits in Brassica napus L.
