29. Effectiveness of Porous Durian Shell-based Activated Carbon for Methylene Blue Adsorption

Abstract

In this study, durian shell-based activated carbon (DAC) was produced via chemical activation method by utilising durian shell and sulphuric acid (H2SO4) as the starting material and activating agent, respectively. The incorporation of H2SO4 in the DAC production process resulted an improvement in the surface properties and adsorption capacity of the produced DAC adsorbent. Field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis further showed that the produced DAC possessed a porous structure which was beneficial for dye adsorption application. Under operating conditions of 500°C and 3 hours carbonisation temperature and time, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area, total pore volume and BET average pore diameter were measured to be 242.03 m2/g, 0.028 cm3/g and 2.28 nm, respectively. The adsorption performance of the produced DAC was then investigated using methylene blue (MB) as the model adsorbate. The optimum MB dye removal and adsorption capacity were found to be 92.05% and 0.767 mg/g, respectively, with 0.6 g of DAC dosage, 10 ppm of initial MB dye concentration and 15 min of contact time.

Abstract

The wound healing mechanism is dynamic and well-orchestrated; yet, it is a complicated process. The hallmark of wound healing is to promote wound regeneration in less time without invading skin pathogens at the injury site. This study developed a sodium–carboxymethylcellulose (Na-CMC) bilayer scaffold that was later integrated with silver nanoparticles/graphene quantum dot nanoparticles (AgNPs/GQDs) as an acellular skin substitute for future use in diabetic wounds. The bilayer scaffold was prepared by layering the Na-CMC gauze onto the ovine tendon collagen type 1 (OTC-1). The bilayer scaffold was post-crosslinked with 0.1% (w/v) genipin (GNP) as a natural crosslinking agent. The physical and chemical characteristics of the bilayer scaffold were evaluated. The results demonstrate that crosslinked (CL) groups exhibited a high-water absorption capacity (>1000%) and an ideal water vapour evaporation rate (2000 g/m2 h) with a lower biodegradation rate and good hydrophilicity, compression, resilience, and porosity than the non-crosslinked (NC) groups. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of AgNPs/GQDs presented some bactericidal effects against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The cytotoxicity tests on bilayer scaffolds demonstrated good cell viability for human epidermal keratinocytes (HEKs) and human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). Abstract

This review discusses the impact of alpha‐gallium oxide (α‐Ga2O3) on potential high‐power device applications. To date, there are high requirements for efficient high‐power delivery and low‐power loss device material in power industries. III‐VI oxide semiconductor family, α‐Ga2O3, is recognized as a promising, future power semiconductor material owing to its ultrawide bandgap of 5.3 eV, high breakdown field of 10 MV cm−1, and a large Baliga's figure of merit. A highly expected α‐Ga2O3 power semiconductor electronic device (Schottky barrier diode and field effect transistor) can perform better than conventional semiconductor materials Si, SiC, and GaN. However, there is a lack of research into using mist CVD to cultivate high‐quality α‐Ga2O3 for high‐power devices like FETs and SBDs. Currently, the mist CVD‐grown α‐Ga2O3 thin film power device is still in its early stages, and one of the main reasons for this is defects of the thin film, which impede material electron mobility. The purpose of writing this article is to provide an overview of the development of α‐Ga2O3 heteroepitaxial thin film by the mist CVD process for use in high‐power devices such as Schottky barrier diodes (SBD) and field effect transistors (MOSFET). 1. α‐Ga2O3 α‐Ga2O3. 47. Computational Fluid Dynamics Insights into Chemical Vapor Deposition of Homogeneous MoS2 Film with Solid Precursors.

Abstract

In this work, a comprehensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) investigation to develop an in‐depth understanding on the fluid flow to obtain a homogenous deposition of MoS2 thin film is reported. First, the effect of substrate orientations (0, 20, 45, 70, and 90°) was simulated using ANSYS Fluent. The horizontal substrate (0°) showed a non‐uniform surface deposition rate (SDR) with relative standard deviation (RSD) of 44.1 %. The non‐uniformity gradually reduces with the increase of substrate angles and reaches the lowest for 90° with RSD of 13.1 %. The transient state analysis showed that no growth occurred for the first 8 s, followed by an SDR overshoot and finally reached a steady state >200 s. Next, the effect of horizontal separation distance (d = 1 to 6 cm) between MoO3 and the substrate is investigated. It is find that the Mo/S ratio reduces with the increase of separation distance. For d between 5 and 6 cm, the Mo/S drops by >1000 times and causes the growth environment to switch from Mo to S‐rich. This work offers a fast and cost‐effective approach to understand the fluid flow and to obtain a homogeneous deposition of MoS2 and other 2D TMD thin films. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
