Giant encapsulated haematoma of the anterior abdominal wall is an unusual complication of mesh incisional hernia repair. The commonest symptoms are swelling and pain. It can be diagnosed with ultrasonography and Computed Tomography (CT) scan. The objective of this case report is to illustrate the challenges of management of a complex pathology in a high-risk term pregnancy. In this case report, a 28-year-old morbidly obese multiparous woman with two previous ventral wall hernia repairs and two previous caesarian sections, presented at term to the prenatal clinic with protruding anterior abdominal mass. Initial preoperative diagnosis aided by ultrasonography was a herniated term gestation through an incisional hernia. Intraoperatively, the surgical team was faced with the challenge of managing a longstanding giant organized haematoma of the anterior abdominal wall and the anticipation and prevention of obstetric complications associated with two previous caesarian sections and a big baby. This report illustrates that good clinical assessment combined with sonographic assessment of complex cases by an experienced radiologist is crucial to avoid missed diagnosis. A multidisciplinary team management was essential for a successful outcome.

A system that is used for time-clocking, creating an all-inclusive electronic record of the process involved in how employees logs in and out of work on working days are referred to as a clocking system. The system has an additional feature of calculating an accurate payroll system, which in turn, can lead to a precise amount the company spent on labour. In essence, an employee clocking system is a process of monitoring the attendance, presence and truancy of employees in a work environment. In this project, the University of Energy and Natural Resources was used as a case study. The existing method of recording the presence of staff to work is by a manual process where employees record their attendance on a paper. The challenge of the current employee attendance system is the difficulty in tracing old records, safekeeping, lack of confidentiality and the chances of other employees logging in for their truant colleagues. This paper sought to introduce a biometric employee clocking system to help overcome the high level of truancy in workplaces. The results of the experiment we conducted indicate a high accuracy in our system with TAR value of 99.7%. This accuracy rate is much better than the results other researchers obtained. The excellent accuracy implies that employees will have difficulty to check-in or out for their truant colleagues. The high accuracy results will help improved security of attendance, improved employee performance, ensures fast and easy retrieval of data, easy monitoring of staff, and prevent impersonation in the attendance logs.

This study explored leadership behavior and practices of three academic program heads in higher education. The paper discusses the responses of three academic leaders in higher education institutions within the framework of adult learning, drawing specifically from adult learning theories including andragogy, transformation learning, experiential learning, and cognitive learning. The study employed a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interview format and observation in gathering data on the behavior of the leader. The academic program heads in a Mid-Western university in the United States of America responded to questions and their responses analyzed with a framework of selected adult learning theories. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis and five themes emerged. The thematic analysis revealed five themes; 1) reflection/learning from experiences 2) coping with stress 3) feedback 4) linking relationships, positive environment, and achieving objectives 5) tangible outcomes as success/rewards of leadership. Also, the analysis reveals elements of transformational learning in the leaders’ practices. The paper concludes with implications for leadership development in higher education. The study focused on the behavior of three academic program heads in a single university and the findings are not generalizable. In addition to other leadership competencies, leaders should be equipped with emotional intelligence. The study highlights the interconnectedness of leader behavior and adult learning theories, an area that has little attention in research on leadership in higher education.

Critical thinking is an important life skill that needs to be nurtured in young minds during the primary education years. This study explored pre-service teachers’ perception of barriers to their efforts in promoting critical thinking skills in classrooms, and further explored possible solutions to overcome these perceived barriers. The study used an exploratory mixed-method research design. Data were collected through an online survey and subsequently a focus group discussion to explore further the results of the quantitative data. Twenty-two pre-service teachers responded to the online survey, and subsequently seven pre-service teachers were selected for the focus group discussion. Issues related to teacher preparedness to assess pupils’ critical thinking skills, inadequate background knowledge on critical thinking, and lack of appropriate resources emerged as barriers to promoting the development of critical thinking skills in classrooms. The study suggests changes in teaching methods courses offered in teacher preparatory programs and changing perceptions toward critical thinking skills as possible measures to promote the development of critical thinking skills in the classroom.

Introduction: Veils are thin garments that are worn over the head, wrapped round the neck, and left hanging loosely over the torso up to the thighs. They are also known as scarf or “dupatta.” Veils can get entangled in spokes of motorbikes or in belt-driven machinery resulting in a variety of life-threating injuries. Case Reports: We report nine major cases of veil entanglement injuries (VEI) that presented to the Orthopedic Unit of Tamale Teaching Hospital from July 10, 2017 to June 12, 2020. All the patients were females with ages ranging from 5-months to 44-year. All the accidents involved either a motorbike or auto rickshaw. Head, neck, and extremity injuries were the most common. Eight out of nine patients had circumferential neck bruise referred to as “veil sign” in this report. One patient died. Conclusion: The rising trend of VEI is alarming among women in Northern Ghana. We recommend widespread public education and awareness creation. We also recommend modification of traffic regulations by policy makers to avert this avoidable injury. The study examined the effect of macroeconomic variables on exchange rate in Ghana using a multivariate modeling technique of the Vector Autoregression (VAR) and focusing on impact of broad money supply (M2), lending rate, inflation and real GDP on exchange rate, for 76 quarterly observations period of 2000–2019, in Ghana and to examine their effectiveness in managing exchange rate in Ghana. The study used only secondary sources of data from Bank of Ghana, World Development Indicators and Ghana Statistical Service. It was found that, real GDP granger causes exchange rate in Ghana. However, inflation, money supply and lending rate do not granger cause exchange rate in Ghana but they affect exchange rate indirectly. It was recommended that a sound exchange rate policy should take into account some considerations. The bank of Ghana should try to reduce the lending rate and money supply in order to lower inflation to create rooms for more investors to produce more to increase the GDP produced in the country, in order to depreciate the foreign currency.

Investigations of corporate failure prediction research usually implement binary classification into one of the distinguished groups – Distress or non-Distress companies. This study looks at a tri-dimensional approach which cluster firms into three (3) distinct dimensions namely - non-distress, semi-distressed and distressed. The study used secondary data from 2011 to 2015 obtained from the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) spanning across six industries, namely, Banking & Finance, Distribution, Food & Beverage, Insurance, Manufacturing and Mining & Oil. The study initially adopted the Altman (1968) Z score bankruptcy model to classify companies into non-distress, semi-distressed and distressed. Further analysis was conducted using the Hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis to cluster companies into non-distress, semi-distressed and distressed. A comparison was then made between the Hierarchical agglomerative clustering against the Altman (1968) Z score bankruptcy classification to obtain higher classification. The outcome of the analysis revealed that the Hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis and the Altman (1968) Z score bankruptcy model can both be used to classify companies into nondistress, semi-distressed and distressed based on the tri-dimensional approach instead of the binary classification (distressed and non-distressed). The study recommends that future research can explore other clustering methods for bankruptcy prediction to achieve higher and better classification.

2-D CVES surveys using the Wenner configuration was carried out in 22 communities in the Tain District, Ghana. This was done with the objectives of assessing the subsurface geology, identify high groundwater potential zones for drilling high-yielding boreholes that could yield sustainable amount of groundwater. The collected resistivity data were converted from the apparent resistivity to 2-D modelsection using the least-square inversion algorithm with the help of Res2DInv software. The 2-D resistivity model-sections produced a high quality structural resolution leading to the demarcation of the layering of various lithological units, weathered layers and identification of important structures such as joints, fractures and faults. Quantitatively, it can be observed that all the drilled wet wells have aquifer zones between 30 m and 60 m within sandstone, siltstone and phyllite granitic environments. The result of the borehole drill logs revealed that the aquifers were within weathered and fractured zones and is in agreement with the models. The results showed that the boreholes yield within the study area varied between a minimum of 15 litres/min to a maximum 800 litres/min and the mean depth for intercepting aquifer was at about 30 m and below. The study revealed that the potential aquifer zones in the study area are mostly as a result of weathering of the overburden and fracturing of the underlying bedrock. The results suggest that the hydrogeology of the study area is highly complex since the development of groundwater is generally due to secondary porosities.
