Background and objectives The efficiency of mechanical plaque control in children not only depends on the type of oral aids they use but also on the instructions, training, and motivation given to them. To compare the efficiency of different methods of personal supervision of toothbrushing in reducing the dental plaque levels in 7–9-year-old schoolchildren. Materials and methods A parallel designed double-blinded randomized study was conducted in a private school in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from September 2018 to December 2018. The children were allocated randomly into two groups based on the type of supervision given. Plaque scores examination was carried out at four intervals as baseline, 7th day, 14th day, and 90th day. Results Plaque scores reduced after 7 days in all groups, even though there was no statistically significant difference observed. At the final examination of plaque scores (90th day), there was a highly statistically significant reduction observed in group I and II compared to group III where the reduction was less evident. Conclusion Supervision of toothbrushing in the correct way was effective in reducing the plaque scores. Our study benefited both parents and children in understanding the correct method of brushing and the importance of plaque control. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) uses a holistic approach that finds natural solutions that help the immune system to fight off infection and diseases. In conventional medicine, the diseases are treated as a series of symptoms developed and not its actual cause or etiology, but CAM commonly targets the exact cause of the disorder thereby stimulating the body's healing process. This is based on an integrative literature review of methods and techniques used as complementary and alternative approaches for oral health care. A comprehensive electronic database search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Google, Google Scholar, and SCOPUS. Medicinal plants such as Medicago Sativa, Aloe Barbadensis Miller (Aloe Vera), and Trifolium Pratense (Red Clover) have excellent applications in treating gum disorders, prevent tooth decay, and have demonstrated good antifungal activity in the oral cavity. Homeopathic medicines such as Belladonna, Antimonium crudum, and Chamomilla have useful applications in relieving toothache. In Chinese medicine, various acupressure points (Acupuncture) have been used to relieve pain related to tooth, head-and-neck region, sinusitis, etc. Dental professionals can utilize these treatment modalities in their practice along with other conventional procedures as an integrative treatment approach to achieve better outcomes.

Benign tumor of the bladder (Leiomyoma) is a rare condition representing less than 0.5% of all bladder tumors. A 50-year-old female presented with asymptomatic hematuria for three months. Abdomen and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a large intraluminal mass originating from the submucosal layer of the left anterolateral wall of the urinary bladder. An ultrasound-guided biopsy was performed, and a histopathological examination showed a spindle cell tumor. Cystoscopy revealed a massive indentation in the left posterolateral site of the urinary bladder extending to the bladder's dome. The patient underwent open partial cystectomy. At the follow-up, the patient was evaluated, and there was no hematuria or other complaints. Open partial cystectomy is the treatment of choice in an intramural tumor with an unfavorable position and difficulty in recognition.

Background: Cross-fused renal ectopia (CFRE) is a rare congenital anomaly in which an ectopic kidney crosses the midline and merges with the orthotopic kidney on the other side. Patients with CFRE could present with urolithiasis. The abnormal anatomy and the lack of consensus to treat urolithiasis in these cases present challenges to treatment. In this study, we present a case of renal stone in a CFRE managed through percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Case Presentation: We present a case of a 59-year-old man with right flank pain. Radiologic studies showed a 2 cm renal pelvis stone in a CFRE. The patient was effectively managed with PCNL. Conclusion: With proper radiologic study and thorough understanding of the aberrant anatomy, PCNL represents a safe and effective treatment for patients with renal stones in CFRE with high stone-free rate and low mortality.

Background: glass ionomer is one of the most frequently used restorative materials for primary teeth restoration. It has been in use for more than 30 years. Their restoration usefulness is preferential compared to other restorations due to their fluoride release and recharge, chemical adhesion to the structure of the dentin and their range of uses. Increasing the antibacterial efficacy of restorative materials is one of the primary goals to decrease the incidence of recurrent caries. Chlorhexidine is the gold standard antibacterial agent in dentistry. Objectives: the objective of this study is to evaluate the antibacterial effect of Chlorhexidine incorporated with glass ionomer on streptococcus mutans. Methods: Thirty Children between ages ranged 6-9 years old were selected to participate in this study. Children with bilateral caries in lower second primary molars affecting the occlusal and proximal surfaces without pulpitis were included in the study. All cavities were divided into two groups; group (A) restored with Glass Ionomer and group (B) restored with Glass Ionomer Chlorhexidine mixture. The sound proximal surfaces in all cavitated teeth acted as a control. After one month, two months and three months’ plaque samples were obtained and streptococcus mutans counts were calculated. Results: The number of SM taken from sound proximal surfaces for all groups were not changed significantly in whole periods of study. At the all-time interval, the mean log10 of SM in CHX group was lower than GI group and the difference was statistically significant. There is a significant difference in the mean log10 of SM in CHX group between the 1St month and the 3rd month. Conclusion: The growth of SM was found to be higher in the sound tooth than in GI groups and in GI group was higher than in CHX- GI mixture up to three months.

Background: Overactive bladder is a syndrome of urgency with the absence of infection and is usually accompanied by frequency and nocturia. Both sacral neuromodulation (SNM) and intravesical botulinum toxin (BTX) injection are used contentiously in overactive bladder after the failure of conservative management. Objective: We aimed to provide an updated comparative overview of botulinum toxin versus sacral neuromodulation in the treatment of overactive bladder. Methods: PubMed and Google scholar databases were explored starting from 2016 to 2022 to obtain relevant articles. English studies on the adult population were included. Results: Six articles included 502 participants were included in the current overview. Both BTX and SNM are comparable for the treatment of overactive bladder, with no major complications were reported. However, the use of SNM for refractory overactive bladder after the failure of BTX was successful and effective and resulted in patient satisfaction compared to the use of BTX after the failure of SNM. Conclusion: Our update provides the latest comparative overview of outcomes of botulinum toxin versus sacral neuromodulation in the treatment of overactive bladder.
